The Colliers Arms in St. Helens

Lovely place, wonderful beer garden and the food used to be very good. Last visit the chicken was awful, I'm guessing it was a reheated leftover dish as it was chewy and tough.

This place continues to be a go to for great pub grub . If you get a chance, go !! Staff are lovely and food is consistently bang on. No pre booking available, but we've never not got a meal. Wait at the bar with a drink and the great staff will get you a table as soon as they can.

We've always gone to the Collier's Arms but we won't be going again. The food was not good ! I had fish and chips, the fish was well over done and the chips had a vile, dirty fat taste to them. My partner ordered a turkey baguette and was served a turkey dinner instead, it was thickend in dark gravy and the turkey was brown meat, the potatoes looked like they'd been heated up from the day before and the veg out of cans ! Not once did anyone ask if our food was OK and charged us for the turkey dinner knowing they had made the mistake of not serving the baguette. They need to revert back to how it used to be or they'll lose a lot of custom

We've heard the name of it many times, but haven't been there until now. Boy, were we missing out. The food is God tier and they catered for my coeliac friend. I honestly cannot fault anything. The staff are lovely and the food is all homemade...by someone who needs a Michelin star! We'll be back!

This places used to be great but the customer service is now shocking! I rang and booked a table for 3 and the girl took a £15 deposit (£3 per head). We arrived on the evening and when I gave in our name I was met with a stern face and was told that there was no table booked in that name and anyway they don’t take bookings for three and they take deposits of £10 . She might as well have just called me a liar. After she had walked off, I called her back and showed her my call records and my credit card app with the £15.charge they had made to it. She told me I could wait around and see if a table would become free but I said that I didn’t feel welcome and wanted my deposit back. She disappeared again then came back and said she had spoken with the manager and she had said that I can have my £15 refunded. Well I should think so!!

Ordered food today and the beef dinner was ok but the spuds was shocking as if they have been sat the for hours. The lamb Henry was terrible so dry and hard and burnt, I felt it was yesterday's left overs. We decided we are not going back food has not been the same for a while

Was about to spend my birthday meal there today but not very friendly, welcoming staff … so we left…. A smile costs nothing !

We recently had a fantastic meal at the Colliers Arms. The steak was cooked to perfection, the fish and chips were crispy and delicious, and the cock and bull was a hearty and satisfying meal. The food was all incredibly tasty and reasonably priced. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

The colliers arms is by far the best food place around. All the food is home made and is really good quality. The portion sizes are really generous, prices are good and staff are friendly. There's nothing to say that isn't positive about the colliers. If you aren't sure go and be impressed.

Been a couple of times recently, enjoyed both times but found the experience uninspiring. Living off its well earned reputation but it’s not a stand out place in my view. Menu and venue was a little tired . Only my view but worth visiting as one amongst many. Not stand out.

The pub is great, one of regular places. The lamb henry is lovely Sunday dinner to very good Lasagna is good Roast beef baguette my hubby loves Fish and chips is huge. I have only had one slghtly off meal from here in mabey 50 meals it's just a great little pub... But the star of the show is the homemade chips

We have been visiting this pub for over 30 years.. the food has never changed , excellent. Always many people in, but you dont need to book. The food is all homecooked. We have never had to wait more than 15 minutes to receive our food. Staff are very helpful and friendly. 10/ 10 for service . I would most definitely recommend this to anybody visiting St. helens , there are many really nice friendly food pubs in St. helens , but for me, this takes the prize. You will not be disappointed.

Never had anything but a great meal here

Met up with friends and they wanted to go to a pub they used to go to 20 years ago!!!! The last few times we have met up and eaten the food has been mediocre nothing special!!! We ordered 2 lamb Henry’s and a steak bacon onions mushroom bag with chips well!!!! There was nothing normal about these meals the amount of lamb and quality was out of this world tasty extremely tender the veg was divine but the ultimate and the best ever tasted were the chips best homemade chips ever tasted!!!! I would drive miles just for the chips alone The steak bag was full to the brim not skimped on the bag was fresh and the chips just made it out of this world. The staff and service were top notch too I would recommend this place 100% it was the best meal I’ve had in a long while

By far the best mixed grill I've ever had

Traditional very popular pub. Incredibly friendly staff and a great assortment of drinks. The food is superb. Home cooked and absolutely delicious. We will return when we are next in the area.

2 visits, Tuesday night, chicken curry and chicken Tallahassee, absolutely fab, huge portion, food hot and tasty, service was great, this is no frills but tasty home cooked pub grub! Meals and drink were @£35 for 2 spot on👍 Went back sunday for fish and chips and a roast chicken, absolutely no complaints! Deffo worth a try!

Five old friends meeting for our monthly catch up decided to give The Colliers a try - excellent decision! Food very good and staff welcoming and attentive. We chose the smaller option of the Tallahasee chicken and the portions were more than enough. The desserts were amazing. We will definitely be back

Visited the Colliers Arms on Sat 10 th August for lunch. It was busy but not overcrowded. There were four of us. Our meals were cooked to perfection and couldn't have wished for anymore. The portions are big and cooked to order. The staff can't do enough for you and were very attentive. When we finished our main meals, we couldn't manage a sweet there and then but were given the option of a take away to eat later at home. A brilliant idea which we accepted. I can't praise the Colliers enough. It's a real gem as I said and can't wait to return at the earliest opportunity. Thank you one and all.

Regular visitor to this pub. Hearty main meals always well-cooked. Prices are very reasonable. Beer is well kept, with Shipyard and Wainwright the usual offerings, alongside lagers. Good sunny beer garden on those odd sunny days. This is not fine dining but is great pub food. Works on a queuing system rather than bookings. Weekends can be popular!

Re- review (July 2024) Really dropped in standards tbh.. 70% of my chips are like burnt crisps. Asked for more sauce from girl at young bar who said ok no problem.. then did nothing.. asked manager and it got sorted there and then. On a plus the burger was nice 😋 Such a shame used to be great place to eat. Can only assume the chef has changed.. __________________________________________ One of the best pub grubs in St Helens.. food is tasty and pipping hot.. and meals are filling... staff are fantastic and very super helpful. great place... probably is the best in St Helens. Its one of those places ya don't wanna tell people about in case it gets too busy ha ha.. chefs deserve a medal! If you like fish and chips . Not visited for quite a while and decided to call in for a meal. On entering a female member of staff we've not seen before was really quite abrupt...No dogs! In such a rural location seems a bit crazy to me that they don't allow dogs through to the back of the pub garden. I get that the inside is small and not much room for diners let alone 4 legged ones but this was a Tuesday and hardly anyone in. Shame because we had been regulars in the past but hey ho there's loads of other dog friendly establishments that have moved into the 2020s/post covid that are happy to welcome diners with well behaved dogs.

Not been for a while and this place was as exceptional as it was the first time. Full experience was great and we all left smiling with very full tummies. 100% recommend and will be back.

Absolutely great place for food. Worth waiting for. Good portion sizes, always hot when comes from the kitchen and the staff are super friendly!

Friendly pub with a great menu. Both of us really enjoyed our meals. Friendly patrons as well who were keen for a chat with the Kiwis with a strange accent.

Looking for places to eat we found this gem and the truth is that it was the best decision, the atmosphere of the place is pleasant, the staff very friendly and the food delicious, everything we ordered was good and you could see in every bite the quality of the ingredients, the dishes very well served and the refreshing drinks. It's definitely a place we'll go again.

Lovely food you can't book a table apparently but we got one In 5 mins of turning up didn't give 5 stars because we got meal but nothing to eat it with but lovely food

Wow, lovely home made pub food, i had the delicious hot beef and onion brioche bun with gravy and homemade chips and my wife had bourbon chicken with homemade chips....both absolutely lovely. Great service from the staff & great food. We will certainly be back....soon!

My wife recommended as she frequently visits but i hate to admit this is the first time ive visited and ive got to say by far the nicest home cooked pub food ive had in a long time. The portions size was big and home cooked chips to die for, food was so nice i overate at 2pm and couldn't manage another morsel for the rest of the day, the service was fast and very friendly with a great atmosphere.. Excellent value and will certainly visit agsin soon as there so much on the menu i want to try, tbh writing this review and looking at the pictures posted of mixed grill and lamb henry is making me hungry already. Thanks for a great meal;)

Ok...visit often and normally very good. Unfortunately this time was a let down. Fish was just warm and batter was not crispy,kind of damp. Wife had lasagne which was hot at the bottom of dish but went suddenly colder towards the top. Something not quite right I can't put my finger on it...was it microwaved partially I don't know.. not normal colliers standards... my rating has dropped dramatically. Plus side bar staff very pleasant.

We have recently moved into the area from Yorkshire and have eaten here three times now. We are very impressed with everything about this place. The bar staff made us so welcome, the locals were all friendly, and the food has been excellent every visit. Very much looking forward to our next visit.

Haven’t been here for many years, but heard good things about the food - which didn’t disappoint, it was lovely with generous portions. Unfortunately the decor needs some tlc and staff a little more welcoming. But overall we had a nice lunch, but don’t think I’ll be rushing back.

Visited Saturday. We called first and were told to just turn up which we did. On arrival there were no tables available and we had a short wait. Food was excellent absolutely no complaints what so ever. All beautifully cooked and fresh. Staff were friendly and welcoming but it is very busy and out the way if you cannot be accommodated, so that’s the chance you take. I understand this as it is small and busy and therefore lost revenue from people who do not turn up would be a waste if there is no passing trade.

I was advised to go here by friends, as they said the food was great. So we went this evening. We arrived at 7:47 and asked for a table for 2. She said we’ve finished serving food. My husband asked what time do you finish? She said 8pm, he said it’s only ten to, she said well we’ve finished!!!! Not friendly or welcoming at all do we won’t be going there!!

Something of a hidden gem, the Colliers at King's Moss is what a pub should be, with excellent food and beer in a rural atmosphere. A small pub in a tiny hamlet, it is very popular with diners, drinkers and walkers from miles around.

Go out a lot to eat,but this is top notch lovely staff,well looked after,food is well cooked and presented well,ten happy customers ,even though very busy nothing too much trouble.we be back

We popped in on a Monday lunchtime & although the pub was already busy, we were able to find a table. Service at the bar was very friendly and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious - I had the lasagne (with excellent chips) & Th'Usband had the Talahassee Chicken with rice. The food came quite quickly and had clearly been freshly cooked. The portions were very generous and our meals were delicious. They were even kind enough to serve us a takeaway portion of jam roly poly, so we can enjoy it when we're not so full! This was our first visit but won't be our last.

Whats going on here ? Always our go to for good quality home cooked food but our last 2 visits have been a let down . Lasagne lacking in flavour and the curry had no taste at all and was lukewarm. Going to give 5 stars for food on past experiences but please look into it .

Lunch with daughter, niece and her toddler. All 4 meals were fresh, hot and very very tasty. Consistently great food. The staff are welcoming, pleasant and helpful. What more could you want?

Always had the beef lasagna but last Friday it didn't look or taste the same,almost as if it was frozen when cooked.Usually full of flavour always eaten everything on the plate but not this time even the chips were anaemic not like colliers arms at all
