The Narrow Boat in Islington

Place was very friendly and the food was very good. Just one thought might it be an idea to offer a discount to voters who hold a canal river trust license?

A Friendly place, the beer was well kept and atmosphere was great. The bar staff especially Kami were helpful and very considerate, top evening out!

The wait was long but worth it. Just loved the fish pie, the amazing chips and Greek salad. We sat outside on a small deck looking in the canal.

Great location at the side of Regent Canal but most importantly the hospitality and the food were excellent . We went for the Sunday roast dinner and it did not disappoint

We had a fabulous mixture of starters and salads all provided by the brilliant Siobhan who looked after us marvellously. Everything was faultless and the only downside to the whole event was that we were saying goodbye to our son, daughter-in-law and our beautiful granddaughter who all live in Australia now 😢 It was a memorable occasion and one which we will never forget. Thank you Siobhan for making it so amazing 😘

This pub was situated directly next to the canal in Angel. We saw an article mentioning this pub and thought we would give it a try. I’m so pleased that we did. The weather was gorgeous so we sat at a little corner table on the terrace overlooking the canal. The food was fabulous. I am a coeliac, and the fish and chips were gluten free and FANTASTIC! Was so full afterwards so was grateful for the lovely walk along the canal. Looking forward to returning 😊

Service was amazing and food was even better! The server khadim made sure we had everything we needed and checked in on us often. would definitely recommend to couples or families looking for somewhere chill to eat and have a catch up

I’ve a lovely experience at the Narrowboat, gus and Charlie priyanka helped me throughout the whole time. I asked them to make my night just that added bit more special for a first date and they did not disappoint.

Excelente place. The food was delicious, we tried various plates and all where great. The view is unique. You must try the fish and chips, I consider them the best in the city.

This is a wonderful place for food and drink, situated on the canal and the staff are really great! So helpful and they will accommodate requests with grace and good humour. The kitchen staff also do a brilliant job. I regularly visit this lovely venue.

Nice setting, unfortunately we having in a cold spell and the doors to the river did not close do there was a draft by our table during our meal despite a heater being placed, we kept our coats on. The food was average and the drinks did seem to take a long time to arrive. We were a table of 12 and pre ordered our meals with a £10 deposit per person paid.

Augustus was fantastic. He served us with a smile and was lovely, making sure we were enjoying ourselves throughout the entire night.

I am not usually a fan of pub roasts but my dad insisted on one for his birthday. We came here & I was very pleasantly surprised. Very decent ‘pub roast’ will defiantly be coming back. 10/10 from me. & staff where so warm and friendly, Siobhan and Sophie

Nice place, friendly enough staff and food ok. Didn’t have the seafood platter and a lot of the drinks on their menu. Had to order from the busy bar even when dining and still got charged service charge 12.5%. Would expect someone to take our order Atleast for that. Will probably go again but just for drinks

The two ladies serving my friend and l were both attentive and efficient. What leads me to score poorly is the value for money aspect. Fish and chips with mushy peas £19 a pop. The piece of fish encrusted with a tasty crispy batter but if there was 4 ounces of fish inside it I would be surprised. Not enough ‘triple cooked fries’ at £19 either. How much would another half potato cost for goodness sake? As for the mushy peas, they were smashed up, so more like a congealed solid mass than ‘mushy’, dry, tepid and only a tiny dish of them. Someone needs to take the Narrowboat chef up to the north of England for a day and show him/her what mushy peas should look like. Oh dear. The hospitality industry is just milking people with this lack of value. My test question. Would l return. Sorry, no.

The staff are always lovely. But although we had booked a table it took 15 mins to find one. There was no table service. The first things we ordered were not available. Nor the second. The food was cold when it came. They heated it up in the microwave which didn't do much for the texture.

5 of us ended up here after a walk from the Olympic Stadium. (11/3/24). We were told we'd be going into the Narrowboat. We thought this was an actual boat. It's actually a lovely pub on Regent's Canal in Islington. Friendly, enthusiastic staff (they were happy to advise on beer choice) We had 3 pints of Ordinary, a cola, and a camomile tea. £23.10 wasn't bad. The beer was lovely. Food is served, but we didn't partake, altho the menu looks good. Quiz on Thursday evenings. The location makes it, however. Lovely deck overlooking the canal would make this a perfect setting for a Sunday afternoon pint or 3. Really nice place.

This is a great place to eat and drink with a lovely view of the canal to add to the atmosphere. The food is always very nice and they have a good wine list. Reece our waiter is always excellent, friendly and attentive but also relaxed and easy to talk to. My partner and I really enjoy coming to this wonderful pub!

Lovely Sunday roasts - though could be warmer as they came room temperature meats; and delicious desserts, especially best crumble we've eaten- though Bakewell tart was a tad overcooked and a bit dry. Overall, a great experience and lunch, and definitely recommend visiting especially as canalside so lovely to watch boats cruising passed and to go walking after meal. Thanks Reece and Hayley for looking after us so nicely.

I'll start with the bad bit as this wasn't our first choice for Sunday lunch as there are venues that you'll need to book weeks in advance to get a Sunday slot. That said my partner and myself had a lovely time. The pub is beautifully situated moments from the noise and clamour of Upper Street but it pretty quiet so you could imagine yourself to be well away from central London. Staff were attentive without being overbearing which is always a good thing. Food was reasonable and its difficult to go wrong with a roast, isn't it!!! Would I go again: it's a definite yes but I suspect in summer with more people on the towpath and windows open it might be harder to have an intimate lunch date.

Stumbled upon this gem whilst on a walk along the canals! It was freezing outside but we walked into roaring fires and an absolutely delightful Sunday roast. The manager, Sophie, served us - the pints were delicious and I suppose you could call me somewhat of a beer snob! She convinced us a roast was what we needed and boy was she right - the pork was sensational, some of the best I’ve had. Safe to say we will make the trek across London to the Narrowboat again soon.

Good - and generous - Sunday roast, with lovely service. Yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese were excellent and the roast came with a generous portion of well cooked veg.

I happened to see a pub in Cumbria named the Narrow boat from a train on my way to London. I googled it and up came this pub in Islington. Seeing as I was visiting, I booked Sunday roast for the family. Got to say the food and service was outstanding! Really enjoyed our time here. It's a really unique place. Nothings too much for the mindful staff. Thanks so much, made my time with my family very special.

I was very disappointed with this place. There was just one other diner when we visited for a very early dinner who was being asked not to move inside when it started raining because it would be confusing. We also ried to move inside and it didnt go down well - it would mess up all the reservations, the manager said. But there was no-one else there bar us and one other diner!!! The level of stress coming from the staff made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. We would move again when the rain stopped we offered? No this wasnt acceptable so we moved back out to sit in the rain. The fish pie with broccoli on the side was nice but it had been re-heated so the veg was crispy. For £16 a plateful I think this was bad. The wine was warm and no effort was made to rectify the problem except to suggest we put ice in it. We spent £90 between us. Never again. This place hasnt got a clue how to host a restaurant or how to treat its diners.

I met with friends for dinner here this weekend and had the most amazing experience. The staff were super friendly, professional and extremely attentive. The food was out of this world, I had a vegan burger & it was the best thing I have EVER tasted. Everyone in my group remarked on how brilliant the food was & it was served really fast. We got to eat, drink and chat while watching the boats and the canal and it was beautiful. The organisation around social distancing is the most effective and organised I’ve experienced so far, everyone knew what they were doing and I was blown away by the whole experience. Thank you for such a fantastic experience, I will be back again very soon!

The atmosphere of the Narrowboat is wonderful and cosy. Perfect for either family, friends and couples. The food was delicious -my partner and I had Beef Roast on Sunday- and everything tasted incredible -a cue to that mind-blowing horseradish sauce-. The price is, considering London prices in places not as lovely as this one is, pretty good.Although, two things I'd like to mention that can be improved. The portion was rather small (one slice and a very little chunk of beef, when you usually get three slices everywhere you go); and customer service could be a little better in attention.

Visited with friends for the final weekend of the 6 Nations. Great atmosphere in the Pub with lots of groups. Table service was great and the burgers were the perfect accompaniment to our drinks.

El pollo estaba sabroso y tierno y la salsa era agradable pero delgada y no lo suficiente. Yorkshire se había quedado fuera, pero el gusto era bueno. Zanahorias realmente sabrosas pero brocoli horribles, viejas, caídas y poco cocidas. Podría haberlo hecho con más verduras en el plato, tal vez un poco de col lombarda. Por ese precio también deberían poner al menos una bola de relleno. Los venden por separado, lo cual es descarado. Era bastante típico de un tueste joven, pero podría haber sido un poco mejor en su composición. ¡También haga un paquete de salsa de pan! Estoy contento con Colmans, jaja. . .La cerveza era bastante cara pero estaba bien. Buen lugar y asado pasable. El pollo estaba bueno, pero no estoy seguro de las otras carnes. Volvería pero principalmente debido a la ubicación.

Mi amigo y yo vinimos a tomar algo por la tarde, pero terminamos quedándonos hasta la cena porque nos estábamos divirtiendo mucho. Hermosas vistas desde cada mesa y ambiente divertido pero COVID seguro :) El personal era amable y la comida era deliciosa. Dan, el nuevo director general, es exactamente lo que necesitaba el Narrowboat, qué hombre tan encantador.

Vine aquí para el almuerzo del domingo la semana pasada y no volveré. Pedí un Bloody Mary que tenía demasiado tabasco que lo hacía imbebible. Pedí un asado de verduras donde la masa estaba completamente empapada y las patatas asadas estaban anémicas. Las personas de nuestro grupo que pidieron el cerdo informaron que fue difícil y ninguno de nosotros disfrutó especialmente la comida. Estuvimos sentados durante 40 minutos antes de que alguien viniera a tomar nuestro pedido y nadie verificó cómo nuestra comida estaba a mitad de camino o comentó sobre los platos sin terminar y las bebidas completas al final de la comida. Una pena que hayamos desperdiciado nuestro dinero aquí.

We visited this venue for the first time today and were delighted with the ambiance, location, service and the delicious roast dinner! The Yorkshire puddings with the roast dinners were huge (much to the delight of my children, they love Yorkshire puds!). Highly recommended

Vine aquí para encontrarme con un amigo poco después de las 6 en un día laborable. Realmente un gran escenario y cuando nos sentamos teníamos mucho espacio, pero rápidamente se llenó con todas las mesas en uso. Ambos estábamos espalda con espalda con personas y no nos sentíamos muy cómodos en términos de distanciamiento. Esto se sintió un poco contradictorio ya que ambos nos sentimos "regañados" por no saber cuándo usar nuestras máscaras, pero creo que la información podría haber sido más clara en la entrada.Estábamos tratando de seguir las reglas, pero sentimos que no estaban claras y recibimos algunos mensajes contradictorios del personal. Nuestro primer pedido fue tomado en la mesa, y luego pedí y pagué por una segunda ronda en la aplicación. Cuando trajeron las bebidas, el camarero golpeó nuestras primeras copas y dijo que todavía no las había pagado. Fue un poco confuso y no fue la mejor experiencia.

Mi esposo y yo hicimos una parada aquí para almorzar después de una visita a la cercana galería Victoria Miro. Habíamos reservado con antelación, y cuando llegamos, el personal fue extremadamente acogedor y nos llevaron a una de las mejores mesas del pub, con magníficas vistas del canal. Como vegano, me impresionó tanto la cantidad de opciones en el menú y el reconocimiento de que no solo es fácil hacer deliciosas opciones veganas en abundancia (¡pescado y patatas fritas veganas! ¡Halloumi vegano!), Sino que también es posible ampliar este esfuerzo en el menú de postres también con un fabuloso crumble de invierno. El servicio fue atento pero no excesivo, y se estaban cumpliendo las medidas de distanciamiento social y Covid (limpieza periódica en baños, una persona, sistema unidireccional, desinfectante de manos). De hecho, vivimos en el sureste de Londres, pero lo hemos visitado antes en ocasiones distintas, sin embargo, tengo que decir que esta visita de regreso fue la mejor hasta ahora y definitivamente volveremos. Me sorprendió leer algunas de las críticas negativas recientes e insistir en que la gente vaya y lo vea por sí misma. Nos encantó.

Reservé para mí y un amigo para ir al barco estrecho un domingo a las 5 pm. En las notas de reserva solicité específicamente que íbamos a comer dos asados de verduras. Llegamos y había clientes todavía comiendo asados, sin embargo, cuando fuimos a pedir, no quedaban asados de verduras. La única alternativa era el pescado y patatas fritas vegano o una hamburguesa vegetariana. Francamente, no es lo suficientemente bueno. Así que nos fuimos y probablemente nunca volveremos si alguna vez buscamos un pub local que sirva asados, ya que no son confiables y tienen muy pocas opciones vegetarianas como alternativas.

I booked a table with friends for a Sunday roast as I had been recommended this pub by numerous people & am new to the area. I did this over the phone a few weeks prior. When I arrived there were two tables under my name & I was told that this was my fault as I had made two separate bookings - which was not the case. I apologized if there had been a mix up and explained we'd only need the one table. The nerve to blame a customer was absolutely astonishing - the hostess was so rude it was shocking. I decided to let it slide and enjoy a sunday roast. It is a beautiful pub and a beautiful setting, but honestly the hostess put me off. The "customer is always right" clearly was never taught to her. The rest of the staff were polite and helpful - clearly embarrassed by the boss' behaviour.

My date had booked table here for the two of us on mid August. The service was fine and the drinks didn't take too long but I was wondering was social distancing the pub was implementing. One of the patrons was 20 centimetres away from us and the waiters didn't wear any sort of shield or mask. No hand sanitizer was offered either. I didn't feel safe so we left after one drink.
