The Nag's Head in Chichester

Stayed at the Nags Head for 2 nights this week for work purposes. Room very clean, staff excellent. Ate there on Tuesday evening no complaints. Good choice at breakfast. Only minor issue (otherwise it would be 5*) I was on the front so got noisy from about 5 a.m. I will have to go back to Chichester soon and will definitely stay at the Nags and take ear plugs or request a room at the rear would highly recommend as great value for money

Vicky our waitress was amazing very friendly and helpful the food was good too I would definitely recommend the ribs. They decorated our table beautifully for my daughter’s 18th birthday. Xx

Basically I was in Chichester A&E and was told the waiting time from entering A&E to my procedure would be 24 hours, so instead of sitting in a very uncomfortable chair for 24 hours along with hundreds of other people I booked a room at the Nags Head. Just what I wanted after 10 hours in A&E, lovely young lady showed me my room, basic, bright, very clean, comfortable & at a great price. If in Chichester again wouldn't use anywhere else. 5 minutes walk to the hospital for my operation at 9.10am. Didn't eat there cause I was nill by mouth, but from what I saw all look good and the smell of food was insane. Come & go as you please. Absolutely for the price 5 + stars. Well done Nags Head, see ya soon.

Great service and carvery. Made us veggie sausages and veggie gravy.

Had a table booked for 1:45, we was told they was running 5/10 minutes behind and to go get a drink from the bar and someone will be with us shortly! When we asked 25 minutes later if our table was ready, we told to wait another 10 minutes. We stayed at the bar and left without being seated an hour after arrival. This is somewhere we come often for a meal or even a drink.

We have been going to the Nags Head for years and years, and 99% time had great meals and service, Today though was different. They had no record of our booking(we was told it was crossed out by someone ) no problem as there were plenty of tables free. They sat us down but after a few minutes we all decided that it was too cold, as we were opposite the door with people coming and going. So we asked to be moved. which we did. We ordered our food and I did want fish and chips for a change but saw there was small, medium or large. Always though it was just one size, as we have had it loads of time over the years. I decided against this as I saw a couple of said fish and chips being served to another table. The fish batter looked a bit black. and looked very small. Two others at our table ordered fish and chips. One Large One small. When the food came out my wife said mine's the large one. Well if that is large, i would have been very disappointed. Then the small one came out.Small!! you mean tiny. they had about 12 chips each . very expensive for what you got, and yes the batter was a bit burnt. If that is your large fish then there is no way we will be back for that.

Very noise rooms especially next to the main road. Rooms insulation is terrible you can even clearly hear others from next rooms. Avoid at any costs.

We had a carvery and I have to say it was the worst carvery I’ve had tasteless and the roast potatoes were horrible I’d rather eat an aunt Bessie other family members had chips that were not cooked right through and I was shocked that a Cary was £19.99 each

We came today a group of 11 of us 1pm table 27, really poor service, food was questionable, I ordered a started that said on the menu served with sourdough bread I got sliced and when questioned I was informed it is sliced! Thinnest cheapest sliced bread in melted cheese! Hair in my mums started and my nephews, my burger was burnt I had to send it back and it taste shocking, I got a new one which was lovely but I had eaten the rest of my meal by then. We asked for sauces they came once we were half way through the meal, slow service and bad food today, we’ve been twice and this was our 3rd time and very disappointed won’t return.

Went for a Christmas drink with family and friends. Rude staff.. Female member of staff abruptly telling us to "move out the way". Rude attitude. Understandable it's a busy hectic time for them but went to friendly pub with nicer staff in the end.

Wasn't a bad place to be honest. I've given it a 3 star because the room was dusty but the food was great 👍

The restaurant was very busy with Christmas parties but the ambience was great and the staff professional, efficient and very friendly. There was a wide choice of dishes on the main menu as well as the carvery. We sampled both. Everything was excellent, the meats succulent and moist, the wide selection of vegetables beautifully cooked and piping hot. The helpings were very generous. So, we all had an excellent lunch, served in good time. I would recommend this venue very highly.

We felt very well looked after by the Nags Head team. Our party included a small, lively puppy who took some time to settle down but the staff really helped with this. Unprompted, they offered a bowl of water then brought some chicken scraps on a plate. We had the carvery and a couple of dishes from the menu, all really good.

A lovely meal today after receiving some very good news this morning. We dont normally do burgers but these were outstanding and left us totally stuffed. Weve tried most things on the menu , so something must be good to keep us coming back for more. Excellent service from Tom and the team in a really clean and friendly boozer. We shall return soon !

The Belly Pork, with crackling and black pudding was amazing. We will be back. Great service and reasonably priced. Thank you.

Went for sunday carvery as had heard good things. Was pretty standard nothing wrong but nothing very special either. Plates were very small which made portions look bigger although you can go back for more veg. Yorkshires looked amazing but sadly were little limp and tasteless .Service from staff was very good . tables packed in so not much space and as busy very loud and hard to hold conversation. Would we go back if in area again ? Probably not would venture elsewhere as sure there is better locally.

We were a large party in a first time experience of the Nags Head. The first thing you notice is how busy it is and at one point with the footfall coming through the restaurant and the level of noise I wasn’t really enjoying my time there. However the service is really very good and as with last reviews the food is really excellent. The meat and Yorkie is plentiful and the gravy is very tasty. I will go back but phaps later in the day. But the team in there made the visit very good and they try hard to keep the area clear and they relay very quickly. Well done a lovely visit

My wife and I came here for the Sunday roast carvery. The Yorkshire puddings which greet you at the carvery are fantastic. There was a choice of meats, I had Beef, Gammon, Pork and Turkey all so tasty and cooked to perfection. The selection of vegetables was fantastic and the roast potatoes were of the finest quality, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. The gravy was one of the best gravy’s that I have had for a long time. Delicious!!!! We will be back again for the carvery.

Have been wanting to return here for the famous Nags Head carvery for sometime. Used to come here with my folks many years ago and knew my dad would have wanted me to take my husband. We did come once just after the pandemic but obviously no carvery then so we finally made our booking and came last Sunday. The booking hadn't been registered but even though it was packed the waitress kindly found us a table. The carvery is now quite expensive but everything has risen in price these days. True to form there were about 5 different roasts and you could have had as much as you wanted from more than one meat. Then over to the vegetables which are laid out well on 2 different sides to avoid the 'school dinner' type queue. There were a wide selection of vegetables and the roast potatoes and Yorkshires were deeelicious! We were not disappointed and the waitresses were very polite and helpful. All in all a 5 star carvery!

I’d like to counter the previous review and welcome a response from him and other diners. Him and his parents were very drunk and were extremely obnoxious. “I’m a manager in a ‘London’ restaurant” he kept bleating. Turns out, when his mother came over to apologise to my girlfriend and I, that he is a manager in Floyd’s, a pub. The food and the staff were gallantly defended by a number of diners….. It looked like you and your parents were too drunk to eat so you made some excuse up to get out of paying… You still hung around, like a bad smell, to drink more alcohol after embarrassing yourselves… Hopefully I don’t see you lot in Nags or any other establishment in Chichester…. Shame on you….

Let’s start: 1. Started came out at the same time as the mains, this may have been an error from the waitress, however. 2. Mains came out, my mothers scampi was clearly microwaved again, to make it hot again. 3 I’ve gone to get my carvery, and I’ve waited for at least 5 mins. Being from the industry, I can understand the chef being on break/having a ciggie etc., however then to get to greeted by A chef talking to the guy behind me saying “beers have been ordered for later” is unacceptable. 4. The 4 hour rule means you Chuck the dishes after hot holding. These roast potatoes had clearly been on for at least 8 hours, wrinkly and dry. 5. Leeks not cleaned, AT ALL!!!! 6. Tried to tell the manager, instead he sent a waitress over. 7. Manager finally came over and barely listened. 8. Member of the public (may have been the managers friend, may have not) tried to confront both me and my father, who is of old age and may need a wheelchair soon. 9. All the manager said was that we had too much to drink.. Really?? I welcome this response, as genuinely, I’d like to hear you recount your sides of these events. Nags head used to be an institution of Chichester, and nowadays, well, based on this visit, you’re done for this family..

A large group of about 16 of us. Service brilliant!!! Food Excellent!!! I had the baby back ribs, oh my god, absolutely delicious. The meat just melted off the bone and the sauce was Devine. Well worth a visit

Outstanding food and Staff. Went with friends on Sunday, Carvery amazing and fresh. My husband had the curry and he asked for it as hot as they could get it and did not disappoint. Staff friendly and were on hand when we needed them. Thank You.

What amazing food!! We ate here one lunch time and the food was so good we came back on the following Sunday for the carvery with 4 friends and everyone was blown away. The best carvery I think I have ever had. So much choice of vegetables and huge amount of meat. The place was very full but that did not distract from the quality of the food at all. Also very reasonable. Lovely cheerful staff, even though they were all rushed off their feet. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Fantastic Service foremost followed by excellent food. Every dish was piping hot and the two serving the six of us were amazing. Well worth the month which by the way is not too bad.

Very quiet when we visited around 1pm on a Thursday afternoon. Little ale choice so just a Guinness but it was well kept.

Wow ! What can i say we had the most amazing meal here last night ( please see photos). Awesome, friendly service from our waitress who was such a welcoming front of house. The food was beautiful. The barman helpful and as everyone knows the pub itself is the best looking and cleanest bar in town. If you are on a day trip, head here. If you live here, you probably come here. All in all this is a very welcomming bar that serves great foid at reasonable prices.

This is my new favorite place to eat with fresh delicious quality food and fantastic service. Fun cosy atmosphere. One small let down are the roast potatoes which taste reheated or precooked.

Spent one night here. Great location , very helpful and friendly staff. Room was fine. Breakfast very good, the waitress there was particularly good, nothing too much trouble.

Had the carvery Sunday lunch and it didn’t disappoint. Choice of 3 meats: gammon, turkey and beef. Huge Yorkshire pudding. Help yourself vegetables, gravy and sauces, it represented excellent value. Booking in advance is required.

Can only review on the breakfast, firstly a very cheerful, helpful and friendly waittres. I had the Veggie option and I could not fault it. Egg, two sauages, baked beans, mushrooms and tomato. Great thick wholemeal bread as well, with fresh coffee.

We recently ordered three beef and one turkey Sunday roasts from the Carvery during lockdown. The meals were ready for us on time and were very tasty. The portion sizes were excellent and the staff friendly. We definitely recommend you try them!

Left due to restaurant being way overcrowded & full of young groups bad language staff not bothered -our family 8.10,12 were stuck @ the front where all Lights were off in front of pub in the sitting area id imagine so not to high light...

Excellent Sunday Roast, good food and very quick service. Covid19 regulation are being observed, the staff were very friendly too.

Lovely place with brilliant food and drinks.. however there was one staff member that was rude and arrogant to other members of the team which was very off putting.... A tall man with brown hair in a light blue polo top was nice to be served by but clearly made other members off staff uncomfortable and was very rude to them... demanding jobs to be one which caused clear upset.... This didn’t ruin the experience but definitely made the experience slightly uncomfortable to watch.... Other than that the bar staff were lovely - lovely young boys and young girls behind the bar and in the restaurant...!!!

The food is consistently good but there are two reasons why I won't be coming back to this pub: 1. It is "dog friendly". This means that you have to listen to these filthy animals barking incessantly, or worse, watch them peeing on the floor...

No social distancing going on at all the pub was rammed in side we left straight away far to many people and the staff were not bothered by it at all they were coming right up close to people with no distancing. Would definitely not...

Came for a meal with the family on Tuesday, the tables were crammed in close with no distancing. Food took 1 hour 20 minutes to come out . The food was ok and have never disappointed in the past but the social distancing there is a huge issue

In all our years going here we have never tried the burgers. Why , has it taken us so long ! I had the traditional beef burger whilst my partner had the Halloumi verstion. Cooked to perfection with triple cooked chips, side salad and a pot of colslaw. A couple of London Prides and a couple of vodkas and it was a perfect early evening treat. We then got joined by friends , so more alcohol consumed and the footie. That was the only bad thing about the evening, Mind you it was Arsenal !! The Nags never fails to impress. Easily the best pub in Chichester for food, selection of drinks and service.

Food hot and menu varied. Carvery always has four types of meat and there are plenty of vegetables to go with your meat. Huge Yorkshire puddings also. Vegetarian foods also available. Very clean restaurant and very helpful staff.

Once again the Nags has proved how professional and awesome they are. We booked a couple of weeks back for a get together Christmas meal. Last night was the night. A very wet Chichester and we entered a very busy Nags Head. And whilst the restaurant was busy (due to bookings of course). The bar area was rammed (which proves what a great venue this is, if people come out in such awful weather and head here). Anyway back to our expeirience. The christmas menu was had by all four of us. Two prawn cocktails and two garlic mushrooms with toasted brioche and hummos (which we were told were absolutly beautiful. I like a second member of my party had the carvery ( in all the years going here, ive never had before because the main menu is always so amazing. ) it was totally delicious. Lots of meat, turkey, beef, gammon ham and pigs in blankets plus an array of veg. Our other friends opted for the mushroom, brie and spinach bake, again melt in the mouth food. We finished with one of each of the four desert options. Including Annies lemon cheesecake and a homemade christmas pudding and brandy cream. A food lovers dream. We had great wine as well tasting the white and the red ! We had crackers !! Background music, not too loud and excellent service which could not be faulted in anyway. The Nags is a great bar and restaurant that is always proffessional in every aspect. From the cleanliness to the food to the service to the prices. Probably by the time this gets posted you would have had your christmas meal but remember the Nags isnt just for Christmas !!! Give it a go next year and see why we love it so much.

We were a group of 10 for a work do. Our table was not in the main restaurant but around the corner in separate area. The seating arrangement is terrible. We were crammed in and once seated couldn’t move. If anyone needed the loo or a drink, it was a major operation to get out with everyone having to get up. Service was terrible and we had to ask for our starters and puddings. No one checked on us or approached us unless we had got up to find someone to help. When returning with our meal, we had to go out of the restaurant back to our table having to say excuse me to anyone in the bar in our way.Thank goodness that the food is fantastic. We all had the carvery and it was spot on. Meat well cooked and tender. All the veg just right.I would come back for a carvery on a quieter day and would presume the service would be better. If ever going for a group meal again, I think we would check we were in the main restaurant.

I love this pub. I have only lived in the area for 5 months and always pop into the Nags when I'm shopping in Chichester. The staff are always very friendly and helpful Dean and Issac are great. I would highly recommend the Chilli Beef as a starter.

We always tend to meet up at the Nags head if we are going out for a meal. Great atmosphere and close to some great restaurants. I'd highly recommend their roast dinners, Biggest yorkshires on the planet.

We revisited the Nags Head restaurant having been introduced to it by friends on a previous visit to the area. Once again the food and service were excellent and well priced. There are daily specials as well as an extensive menu. All food was well presented and tasty. We would highly recommend and look forward to returning.

Food and service was good and as it was a Sunday we fancied roast but one of us wanted something else and the main menu was still available unlike some places, do that was good. I was looking forward to roast beef but there wasnt much roasted about it, it was extremely bloody. Many people may like it that way but I cannot eat it like that so unfortunately I missed out. Not everyone can eat raw meat, for the reason that I couldn’t have the beef I wouldn’t go back for a roast myself. Shame as the rest of it was good.

Good carvery. Decent slices of meat. Not the usual wafer thin. You can load up your plater with as much or as little as you please. Certainly would recommend.

Popped in here the other day, as not been in for a while. The Nags head is still good for choice of ales, mine being today was the summer lightening, a grerat pint indeed for the summer. We were joined later by our partners, so decided to eat. We opted for a roast, as it was just being set up. Good meat, and veg, and a glass of red to wash it down. delicious.

Full of honest and familiar people, the Nag's Head is a place of good conversations and great food. Absolutely delicious carvery.

The Nag’s is a popular venue that you can go with a crowd of your mates, or with your Mum, or just on your own. It can be for just a drink at the bar, or a meal in the restaurant. There is a good choice from the menu, or, you can overdose with the buffet on a Sunday. The menu offers traditional pub fare and other more exotic dishes. The one dish that I find myself choosing time and time again is the sausages and mash with a lovely thick onion gravy – simple, but gorgeous.

Came here for drinks with my family, and the range of alcohol at the bar and pricing was brilliant! The only snag resided in the lighting, the seating around the bar isn't very well-lit, resulting in us all sitting in semi-darkness with our drinks.

Been coming off and on for years. However, second time this year came for the roast dinner, and no better than the first time. Plates smaller, price higher and food is poor and tasteless. Three of us ordered the carvery- I left half and the other two weren’t impressed. Owner needs to sit down and taste what’s being offered, as there are too many places a stone throw away, which give better value. Disappointing to say the least! Waitress was very good and accommodating, however.

We came for a meal because of the massive misleading sign. You didn't even have a bottle of Brewdog let alone real craft beer! Doom bar central! Photo as proof we came and paid good money for a meal.
