Just came back to newquay for the mussels mariniere. I wish I was kidding.

I really don't understand what the hype is about. 🤷🏼‍♀️ We did not understand this food art at all, unfortunately. We were so hungry and wanted some pasta somewhere locally when we found this with an exceptional rating. But the food was not enjoyable at all. We have been in loads of food places, but this has been the poorest experience so far - starting with no proper cheese available for pasta, no toilets, no kettle for tea, no room temperature water where when returned, there was no refund (or suggestion to replace with something else) for it either and the pasta was least enjoyable from it all, sorry. We had to leave everything there and look for another place to eat.

Best mussels I have ever eaten.

Great little pop-up restaurant just off the road down to the harbour in Newquay. The mussels were delicious. My daughter had the most delicious mac and cheese we've ever tasted. My only disappointment was that this place was not bigger! Be prepared to have to wait for an empty table.

If u already adore mussels n eat them at every nice restaurant, u won't beat these, if u think u won't like mussels, u have to try these! Also pastas, prawns, chowder, but did I mention the mussels! We chose mariniere, arabiata and cider n bacon to feed r family n all were wonderful, as they have been on every visit, this was r 4th, as we live counties away n rarely visit Cornwall!

Small shellfish restaurant specialists in mussels. Absolutely fantastic food, had mussels in cider & bacon, awesome. No pre booking, just wait for a table but well worth it. Wife had a prawn pasta dish which was also excellent.

Incredible little gem run by a lovely family. Some of the nicest mussels I have ever tasted. We also got the prawn pasta which was gorgeous. I would definately recommend a visit!

Been a few times now. Simply the best mussels in Newquay. Could probably say the same for the UK. So so good. Simple choice, 100% freshly caught and worth the wait. Highly recommend the Aribiata.

Really friendly owners, and the mussels were of excellent quality - lovely, plump, extremely few broken or gritty etc. However, 4 rather than 5 stars as the sauce (mariniere) was overly salty - for me personally it could easily be as much as halved. I'll definitely visit again though and try the other sauces, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others visiting Newquay 👍

Best mussels i've ever had and best food i've had so far! Linguine with black tiger prawns were very good too! Very nice owners, everything is perfect, even the bread is fresh and delicious! Perfect for people who love freshly catched and freshly cooked seafood! Thank u very much!

Absolutely loved my meal here. I went on my own and the staff were so welcoming, the ambience music was superbe. I had the Mussels with Cornish rock Samphire.

The most delicious food we’ve ever had in Cornwall throughout our 20+ years. The family were so lovely, food delicious, and atmosphere lovely. We had two different mussel dishes and a salmon linguini - delicious!! Hats off to the owners!

One of the best mussels I ever had!

This is my first holiday in Cornwall, I'm 22 and I still have a lot of firsts to catch up on for one reason or another. This was my first time trying muscles and I cannot begin to explain how perfect the food was. The plate was CLEAN at the end. The portion was really good value, the sauce was spicy but had so much depth to it and the muscles were fresh. The staff were so kind and caring, they took time to explain things and really made the place what it is. The pasta was fresh and the prawns were to die for. I can't compare it to any other dining experience ive ever had, it's truly redefined what a "hidden gem" is to me and has repaired a part of me I didn't know was missing. Thank you so much! We will see you in August for our anniversary ❤️🦞🦐 EDIT It was so lovely we made a point to take a detour on our last day to come back. Ditto what I have written so far, it was lovely and both owners are really kind. Can't wait to see your next business venture up our way in Whitby!

Mind-bendingly delicious. Went in starving, and left feeling blessed and full. Warm atmosphere, friendly staff, great portion size. Top drawer mussels. The mac & cheese is also epic. Highly recommend!!!

We ordered the mariniere mussels and the tomato and prawn pasta and absolutely loved it! Everything tasted very fresh and was extremely tasty! We definitely recommend! We also tried the mango cider with which delicious too.

Absolutely lovely moules. Fresh, really good quality size mules and portion size. We had the classic moules mariniere and a special moules with red wine and chorizo - absolutely perfect! It is a small place with no restroom, but really worth the visit, you can tell the owners put their hearts into what they do.

We went here on a rainy weekend in Newquay as I thought there would be some chowder. There wasn’t - but I was not disappointed. We had the mussels with cider and bacon, and the prawns tomato pasta. My only gripe was I really wanted to know what they’d have as a dessert! Excellent value for money as everything was fresh and made to order.

Absolutely amazing!!! Best Pasta and mussels. I am a cook, and have had pasta in many places in Italy and around the world, but Moules is just perfection!

Anthony Bourdain claimed he never ate mussels in restaurants unless he knew the chef personally but I bet he would have eaten them here, they are local and delivered daily. What a great little place. I favour a limited menu, it shows commitment to the excellence of each dish. Today, you could have had mussels in one of three ways, a fresh prawn pasta, a vegan pasta or Mac and cheese for vegetarians. Perfect. Mostly this little business is a takeaway but they have a few tables and we sat at one eating our choice of mussels in a spicy tomato sauce with generous hunks of bread to sop up the juices. More bread was offered when it ran out. We chatted to the owners and had a generally lovely time. Go there.

Not got the fish chowder on anymore which was great last year, was looking forward to having it once more. This year there are 2 fish options and both are shell fish ..... Seems a bit of an oversight or just an idiotic choice. Salmon and pea pasta was on the menu visible online but not on when we arrived. This was all after turning up twice during the opening hours but finding it closed before finally arriving when it was open and finding the above issues with the menu options.

Having spent time in France, and eaten Mussels by the bucket load there, trying to find something in England that compares to their flavour levels - even in little seaside towns - has been damn near impossible, that was until we stumbled upon this gorgeous tucked away restaurant. It’s like a tiny slice of paradise in a bustling tourist town, this is Newquay’s best kept secret with awesome music, beautiful decor, ambience, and a very personal and a friendly service. With only 4 tables inside it, along with how wonderful the service is you could easily be fooled into feeling like you’re sitting round a friend’s house for dinner. Getting on to the food. If you love your seafood, or even some pasta, look no further. This is hands down some of the nicest food I’ve ever eaten. We ordered the mariniere x3, and a mac and cheese, and each meal was lovingly cooked, and beautifully served with hunks crusty bread, and not a rogue closed mussel in sight. The mac and cheese was unctuous and oozing with cheese, and the wonderful touch of onion and garlic was to die for. Paired with a lovely glass of white wine to cut through the richness, it all went down very easily. This place is just simply stunning, and you won’t regret visiting. 11/10

Incredible mussels from this very cute unassuming place right by Great Western beach, we had take away on the beach and it was perfect! Amazing flavour, very fresh mussels, delicious bread to mop up the delicious sauce, nice and easy packaging. Amazing experience and we will 100% be back

This place is just wow, everything about it from its vibe, the people, food and service is perfect. I would recommend everyone to visit.

My friend absolutely enjoyed mussels and mac and cheese was perfect. We had great conversations with our chef who went the extra mile to get a heater and keep us warm. Ambiance was great, definitely recommend!

We discovered this quaint little place on a walk but it was closed. The next time we made sure we arrived during open hours. And it was the best discovery of the century!! We ended up going back again before our trip ended!! The mussels were freshly cooked, drenched in sauces and fresh herbs, with a generous serving of bread (of which can be refilled upon request!). We also had the fresh prawn pasta and it was delicious!!! The restaurant itself was small, had two high tables with a small seating area for takeaway. It was so lovely and the staff were wonderfully friendly (I must admit we ate so much it might have frightened them). Cannot rave about this place enough!! Excited to come back on our next trip into Newquay😊

I was craving some fresh mussels!! Found this little gem in Newquay and defo my new fav place. Lovely staff and I will definitely come back when they open again next year. The only constructive criticism I’d give is that the menu is a little light. I really wanted chips with my mussels instead of white bread which I never eat. A couple of side dishes would be nice but it was not part of the menu. See you next year!

Honestly the best mussels I’ve ever had! They were fresh, and the Mariniere sauces were delicious. And the two chefs are friendly and lovely - Thank you so much!

Tucked in on the road down to the Newquay harbour is a little gem that is smaller than the average garage but nothing else about the Mussel Shoal is average. We had the Moules Mariniere and Haddock Chowder. The Chowder had a slight spicy kick which was not expected but was really tasty. We have eaten Chowder in San Francisco Pier 69 and honest this was better and a lot cheaper. The Moules Mariniere was also top draw, the mussels were large and really juicy, the sauce was really tasty and mopped up with bread. If you are in Newquay this has to be a must to try.

Just had a wonderful evening meal in this fabulous little shack. Fabulous plump fresh mussels in a simple but tasty sauce and haddock chowder with local beer to wash it down. The staff were welcoming and cheerful and offered us bottomless bread. If you are passing even if it is busy it is worth the wait. I can’t wait for the next visit. Hmmmm chowder or mussels.

The Mussel Shoal obviously specialises in mussels. The portions are big with the choice of a few fairly classic flavours. Never eat such huge mussels before. Beautifully cooked and delicious. Pretty basic inside, with only two tables. We saw people already waiting for tables so decided to take away instead. Really friendly, informal service.

These were honestly the best mussels I’ve ever had! They were really big and fresh, and the Mariniere and Aribiata sauces were delicious. It has a really friendly atmosphere and the two chefs are lovely - I’ll definitely be coming back!

Incredible mussels yesterday. Popped in with my husband and kids to hunt out some seafood which I am a huge fan of. My kids and husband aren't massive fans of seafood, but I had to fight them off my mussels today. Freshly cooked, smelt INCREDIBLE whilst we waited for chef to cook them up. The bread was delicious and I honestly don't think I've had better. They even popped them into a handy takeaway container so i could sit out and look over the harbour whikst eating them. Lovely location. Thank you very much, made my day!

Absolutely brilliant food (massive potions , great quality and prices) very cool atmosphere and a very friendly and helpful staff. They also have some local beers/wines which were excellent. Perfect after a day of surfing. Will def visit again when we return to Newquay!

The tiniest restaurant, but worth every inch. The food was amazing, the mussels were tasty in every flavor we tried, the owners were kind and funny. We had a great experience. The pasta was too watery for my liking, but that is personal taste. Definitely recommended. No toilets! A great restaurant, a fantastic dinner, the place, small but welcoming. Pleasant staff. The pasta is a little too moist, but maybe it's just taste. Definitely recommended mussels, all very fresh No bathrooms, too small.

Excellent food! THE BEST! Walked in randomly one year ago, and I absolutely love it! After one year, I just missed it so much and came back to have their food! Only thing to note that the opening hour is not really accurate on google. I would personally suggest to go between 1:30pm between 6pm.

Been to Newquay's little stack 2 years ago and been looking forward to go back again ever since and came back today, had 2 boxes of mussles just to myself (tomato and smoked bacon - pure greed, I know) and they both were delicious!! I'm now happy and full with quite a few slices of very fresh sourdough left for breakast tomorrow. Will see you guys again in a couple of years time!
