Gear Farm Pasty Company in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

The place itself is great, staff great, etc. but it's crazy to me that people claim this is the best pasty in Cornwall. They are big, plenty of meat, pastry itself is nice. But the filling generally was a leltdown. On top of that the location is a pain in the arse to get to and not worth the hassle. The best in Cornwall? No!

It’s really worth a visit. Probably the best pasty I’ve had, very generous size, perfect filling and pastry, the apricot flapjack and coffee were also lovely although we did have it sitting in our car parked facing a brick wall! It’s a take away, but they do have a portaloo. ( The previous day it had frozen and was unusable then). Really helpful and friendly staff. We enjoyed our pasty when we got home that evening with vegetables we purchased from the adjacent stall, nice kale and sprouts. We’ll definitely make it a stop on our visits to nearby St Martins church, check opening times, last time it was closed. Well worth the journey along the roads beside the Helford estuary, challenging for us folk from the bigger towns! Good price.

The best pasties money can buy!

Been here a few times now - definitely our favourite pasties + sausage rolls. Lovely light pastry, tasty fillings and plenty of it. Their cakes are well worth a try too! 😋

Today I made the bold decision to try something other than the traditional steak pasty and the chilli sausage roll (my favourite) I chose to maintain the festive spirit with a Christmas Pasty, and all I can say is ding dong merrily on high!!! A prestige pastry pocket aka pasty, filled to the brim with potato, swede, stuffing, turkey and cranberry, complimented by a singular large pig in blanket. Every bite was full of flavour that words can simply not describe. My friend attempted to do so and described the meal as "majestic" (direct quote) I will be getting another 1 of these before main festivities begin. Order in advance to ensure you won't be dissapointed.

Living in Helston we are blessed to have Gear Farm nearby, our go to place for pasties to impress our friends 😀 The Christmas pasties are lovely...sausage rolls are worth a try as well !!

Not sure how this isn't 5 stars?! The best pasty around hands down! The owners are very accommodating. I supported a man that is autistic and wanted to sit to eat his food, the owner briefly gave us a chair he could sit on to meet his needs. Amazing customer service. ( There is no outdoor seating Mr VAT man)

Pasty is definitely 5 star but I've deducted a star for the cakes which were disappointing and not up to the standard of the excellent pasties, which is a shame. They were also very small for the price charged. If I had seen the size before purchasing I wouldn't have bothered. Will definitely return for a pasty though.

Believe the hype... they are the best! I'd give the pasties a 12/10 if I could. They were enormous, the filling was delicious and the pastry was perfect. I'm so often disappointed by the quality of food when eating out, but these exceeded all expectations. Thank you to the Gear team for providing us with a memorable lunch.

Having read a few good reviews about this place I decided it really was time that I made the effort to drive down there and test their pasties, just so I could do this review obviously... After driving for the best part of an hour through torrential rain and minor flooding we arrived at the Gear Farm Pasty shop. I was initially slightly underwhelmed as the car parking area has a somewhat industrial feeling which made the whole place feel rather uninspiring, the pasty shop is quite a small serve through the hatch type of place. However it was the food I had come to experience and I must say that it really did not disappoint! A really good, decent sized pasty and well worth the effort of getting here! The pastry alone was absolutely excellent, in my opinion a proper traditional style of pasty pastry - the flavour was amazing! It was robust enough to hold the pasty together well with a slight crunch yet not dry and tough. The filling was also very good, plenty of meat, perfectly cooked vegetables and a lovely juicy gravy made this one of the best pasties I have had in quite a while. I would recommend this place very highly and will be coming back again. I also tried their pork & apricot sausage roll and although it was one of the short but very fat variety it was exceptionally good! The staff here were very polite and helpful, i don't believe they have toilets here although I didn't ask. The car park is level and well serviced so although I saw no dedicated disabled parking bays accessibly is good.

The best pasty anywhere ever!. Absolutely delicious, was recommended by the camp site across the road last year, been back this year and recommended again by the local down in lizard. Bought some on both occasions to take home on last day of trip. The never made it, a taste sensation.

Had to make a visit to see if their pasties lived up to the hype! You will more than likely need sat nav to find them if not local, as they are a little bit off the beaten track. Arrived at about 10.30am and there was already a steady stream of customers but plenty of free parking. We had two traditional pasties and a pork and apricot sausage roll. The pasties were epic! Lovely buttery pastry with a good balance of filling and seasoned well, nice and peppery. Only one size on offer, but it was ample, I would say large. The sausage roll was massive, and a meal in itself! Well worth the diversion, and definitely lived up to the hype! One of the best pasties I've ever had, and I've had a few!

During our stay in Newquay, a colleague highly recommended Gear Farm for their pasties, so we decided to make the hour-long drive to check it out. Let me tell you—it was absolutely worth it! These were hands down the best pasties we've ever had. We tried a variety of items, including the traditional pasty, cheese pasty, bacon cheese turnover, and raspberry blondie. Every single thing we tasted was phenomenal. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing (around 2 PM, I believe) and were pleasantly surprised to find everything still incredibly fresh and piping hot. The people who served us were also wonderfully friendly, which made the experience even better. We noticed they had some local produce for sale too, which looked fantastic. Gear Farm is an absolute gem, and we’ll definitely be stopping by again on our next trip to Cornwall. Highly recommend!

This place was recommended by locals. It was a trek, but packed when we arrived. The pasties were great, but the sausage rolls were sold out.

I've lived in Cornwall for more than 70 years, and this is the best Cornish pasty I've ever had (better even than the ones I make). Wonderful pasty and very generously filled with top-quality ingredients. We got 10 frozen ones as well to cook later.

Was recommended to come here by the people at the lavender farm, and I'm forever grateful to them for that. Comfortably the best pastie I've ever had, and from such a lovely location with really friendly service. Can't recommend highly enough

10/10 We finally had Gear Farm's most excellent pasties. The size and temperature were totally what we needed on a rainy Thursday, the pastry was so darned buttery and tasty and yes the meat/veg mix inside was perfect. Not too peppery and correctly salted. Edit because I've just realised I didn't even mention the people there. Customer service was excellent, the lady behind the counter was prompt, polite and cheery on a real bad weather day. I'll be convey all this on Google as well. Best. Pasty. Ever. (For us).

Without question, Gear Farm produce the finest pasties and sausage rolls my wife and I have ever eaten. We had a steak pasty, vegetable one and pork and apricot sausage rolls - just gorgeous !

We went there coming from Germany hearing they have one of the best pasties. And this is true. The pasties are lovely and your sausage rolls are the best rolls I ever had. Proper Job. OH MY! OH MY! OH MY DAYS!!!!!! I had to apologise to the team at Gear for mentioning another pasty company that I claimed to do the best pasty I've ever had. I have never been so wrong! In my 46 years of living on this planet, I have never had a pasty that tasted as good as the one I've just demolished. I've also never had a Bacon & Cheese turnover as good as I've just had. I pre ordered (advised). When we arrived they came straight out of the oven. I then spent 20+ minutes tucking in to a lava hot pasty with my bacon turnover for starters. The turnover was filled with a plentiful supply of bacon and the cheese was oozing out in good quantity. What a starter!!!!! 😋 But, the pasty, oh the pasty. Filled, absolutely loaded in fact, with veg grown on site and the chunks of steak were sensational and melt in the mouth. My son and I sat in our van munching away. In the 25 minutes we were sat at the road side there was a constant stream of traffic flowing in to pick up their Cornish delights. There must have been 20-30 cars rock up in that time. When it comes to food, and good food at that, I tell it how it is when reviewing. I challenge anyone, anywhere in the world to find a better tasting pasty than what Gear produces. I'm confident in stating that you'd be hard pressed to find a better one. Well, I'll be buying some ice blocks during our week away in Cornwall, and will be taking some of these Big Daddy Pasties back over the county lines to our shire of Devon. Update (9.5.24) Today we head home across the border back in to Devon. Couldn't leave without taking home 10 frozen pasties. PROPER JOB!!! 👍

Best pasties we have ever tasted!

As someone not used to tiny Cornish roads this was 'entertaining' to get to, but having been recommended to go there by a local, we kept going. Boy was it worth it. Not just the best pasty I've ever had, it was quite possibly the best food I've ever had. Just wow. Crumbly flakey pasty, crisp but not hard, beautifully seasoned filling with a good amount if meat and veg, Satisfying and delicious. There's a small carpark at the back, enough for maybe 10 cars.

Best pasties in all of Cornwall, a truly wonderful kitchen. This place is amazing. This is the place of true glory. This is where all depression is gone, and all illnesses are cured, for example the bubonic plague, which ended in 1944 when Ratatouille ate a steak filled delight. This place can end all wars and bring world peace. idk if you know but they signed the treaty to end WW1 here, and when Germany attempted to invade Britain in 1940, they came across gear farm pasties and just surrendered instantly. The Roman empire fell because Caesar Augustus ate a pasty here and just said: "No more Roman empire" and got rid of the country so he could live in the store. There was a mural of him, but Ginsters got jealous and stole it. The cold war is called the cold war because for about like 200 years the pasty's were cold by the time they arrived in America. So when they started wrapping them up in tinfoil, the soviet union blew up. There's even a plot to bring Vladimir Putin here, because apparently he only eats Rowe's and that has caused global turmoil. Thank you Mr Gear Farm for all your work to humanity. Number one, tried the cheese pasty for the 1st time, ended up buying 5 to take home, as for the traditional pasty standard size is large, full of meat and filling, pastry taste lovely, as well took a dozen back home, keep it up and will see you soon.

Really lovely staff. However, I have to say, their pastys are better.. Best pastys in Cornwall and their sausage rolls are devil sent, for any wanting to shed a few pounds.. Utterly delicious. Their cake's are fab too. Great place, all round. There is also a veg stall, selling really tasty organic veg. Highly recommend. Thank you all, your doing a great job.

Having been munching my way through cornish pasties for 30 years and having some fabulous treats,all of a sudden gear farm pasty turns up ....Well with out doubt stupendous best ever ,well done gear farm.

Our first visit to Gear farm even though we live quite nearby.Needed the sat nav though 😀. Took the pastys home for lunch and they were the best pastys we have had and I for one have eaten a lot of pastys. They are large, just the right amount of seasoning, full of meat right the way through, correct proportion of the veg too.People travel here from miles away and now I see why. We will definitely be back 🏃and have already started recommending.👏🥇😋

Tried nearly every pasty shop in Cornwall. By far the best and worth a visit.

These are the best pasties in my opinion, tried the steak I usually have, it really is a meal on its own. Even the pastry is just right. Best to try them your self. I also tried a cheese pasty, it was tasty and top notch ten out of ten for both pasties. No wonder it's busier every time I go here. Also enjoy the views of the Helford river on the way up to Gear Farm. Full stars. Just one thing, check the opening times before heading over, I think normally it's 10 am to 2 pm Tuesday to Saturday.

For one of the most outstanding pasties in Cornwall, in this instance treated my daughter who was home from Uni, never disappointed.

Cornishman that loves his pasties, in 40 years this is one of the best pasties I have every eaten the Size, filling, meat content, pastry, and gravy was outstanding. Worth every penny and the drive. To finish off with apple and cinnamon cake was delicious. One very happy man. Also purchase one for my tea. Ansum!!

The perfect pasty, loads of filling that is evenly spread out, perfect seasoning, not too peppery. Meat & veg cooked to perfection. Pastry is delicious. It's definitely worth the trip to get some.
