The muntjac is great for two reasons, the Pub and the restaurant. As soon as you enter your greeted with a friendly community in the pub, then in the next room to the side of it you get the restaurant, full of friendly staff and a interesting glass display of a fish tank in old well, the food is decent and the service is moderate, only issue is the toilet hygiene is very neglected, other then that totally go there!

Haven’t had a meal here for a while even though very local to me. So decided this Sunday gone to give the Muntjac another try. Probably the best Indian take out meal that I’ve had in years. Perfectly cooked...very tasty...no oily substance you find in some take outs. Tell you this it won’t be ages to try another.

We made a telephone order for a take-away from this restaurant, whilst visiting family in Bedfordshire on Saturday 18th January 2020. When we got the food home, we discovered that two items were missing. We phoned the restaurant and were told that the missing food would be delivered. We were hungry and, not wanting to let the food go cold, we started to dish it out. However, about ten minutes later, we received a phone call from the restaurant, presumably the boss, to tell us that the missing food would not be delivered. We asked for a refund of the £15.00 we had paid for the food not supplied, but he refused. He then questioned whether we had a receipt, even though they had not given us a receipt. The only concession he would make is that we could go back to the restaurant and order the missing items. That would have meant somebody leaving the dinner table to collect it. In view of the fact that the previous collection process had taken about half an hour, we decided just to carry on eating what we had on the table. We assured the person on the phone that we would not use there restaurant again. We would not recommend this restaurant, but, if you do order a take-away, we suggest you check that all the items that you have been charged for are in the bag.

This was always one of my absolute favourite Indian restaurants and the new operators have managed to raise the bar. I went for my old favourite of King Prawn Vindaloo plus some classic sides and it was all fantastic. The rest of my party on this particular night tried Tandoori Salmon, Chicken Madras and various side orders. All of which were excellent and good sized portions.

Since coming under new management we’ve had a couple of poor experiences with take-aways - both times the order was wrong - first time a complete dish was missing, second time we had the wrong item but decided to let it go as overall the food was pretty good. However, on tonight’s 3rd (and final) order, I was overcharged by nearly 20% (it sounded high so I subsequently checked). Upon reporting this to the delivery driver I was later informed that whilst I had indeed been overcharged by a smaller amount which was refunded to me, it was not as much as I thought due to the fact that they have a new menu now with higher prices! I pointed out that I’d ordered from the menu and at the prices that is displayed on their website and even upon reviewing prices on the new menu, I’d still been overcharged by more than I was refunded. Not a great experience and it always amazes me that restaurants will do this when they are delivering locally! Anyway, there is another Indian in the village who will be enjoying our custom in future. Check your bills especially if ordering over the phone.

First Takeaway after the new owners took over. Decided to go for some new items on the menu and wasn't disappointed. The Curry I went for was well spiced and boosted in heat as I asked for, not swimming in oil either, like most curry houses. Tandoori Chicken was moist and well seasoned, poppadoms and dips were tasty. Took approx 30 mins from ordering to arrive. Not a bad thing as we had a beer in the bar next door. Also a bonus as there is large selection of lagers, ales etc without being stung with "Indian Restaurant" prices. Lots of new dishes on the menu so Ill give another one a go next time.

Ate there a Saturday evening with two friends. Whilst the food was good, mine especially Muntjac Chicken very tasty, the service needs a massive improvement. So if you don’t mind waiting ages to get a drink and the staff hardly speak never mind smile then you will still have a great meal. Maybe the young chap taking our order was new to the ropes but he needs some coaching on communication and keeping a eye on what’s happening. Such as its nice to have starter plates cleared before the main course arrives. There was no offer of coffee or dessert. What is going on with this place. Is it that they’re so busy with takeaways seated customers are just too much? Good rapport with punters can only brings us back!!

My friend and I swung by on a very warm Thursday evening. We were swiftly shown to a choice of tables. Safe to say we elected to sit by window. Upon receipt of both the drinks and food menus we did notice that there was plenty of choice. Upon ordering our drinks which arrived in no time we got stuck into the menu. Along with Popadoms we both chose the Tandoori Salmon to start. I chose the Chicken Muktaj, Chilli Rice and a Garlic Naan. My friend went for a Chicken Makonwala, Egg Rice and a Peshwari Naan. I have to say that the food was spot on. Well cooked, hot and very very tasty and arrived in a suitable amount of time.

Seeking somewhere for a short stay whilst visiting Bletchley Park (and not worrying too much about a bit of a drive on the day – 45 minutes) I stumbled across the Muntjac as a possibility. We wanted somewhere more interesting than Travleodge or similar; somewhere with character and not expensive either. We also wanted somewhere we could eat well and enjoy a drink without going too far from our beds. This small country pub has been extended to include not only an Indian restaurant but also three ground floor guest rooms for those visiting the area. So, where to begin? Well, let's say that the restaurant was everything the positive reviewers have said to-date: great! Four of us enjoyed an early Saturday evening meal. The service was friendly, helpful and allergen aware. My wife, who requires gluten free meals, was very pleased with the attitude of the staff, describing her meal as one of the best she's had. No ill effects at all. Certainly recommended. As for the rest of the Muntjac...it's a pleasant place for a short stay. We had the two double bedrooms. These were compact, featuring a king size bed each, small en-suite 'bathroom' with shower cubicle (no bath), a small fridge and the makings of cereal-based breakfasts, complete with milk, tea/coffee and bottled juices. We were recommended to try the nearby Tea-Zels for a larger, cooked breakfast if that was what we wanted. The rooms were comfortable, clean and fine for laying your head down for a couple of nights. No frills, but certainly convenient for the short walk to/from the restaurant and pub bar.Our landlady was unfailingly helpful and friendly, looking after us well but without fussing. One small problem: they're not set up for card payments outside the restaurant yet.The bar itself is small: large enough for a pool area (no, not the swimming variety!) plus a handful of tables. There's a TV for entertainment. Behind the bar are an impressive row of gins plus a good selection of whiskies. A handful of bottled craft ales supplement a row of up to five real ales on pump.Disadvantages? Watch the entrance to the car park, it's narrow and the parking itself limited. That said, the car of a member of staff was moved to allow us to park ours. Oh, and the bar gets full very quickly – we opted to retire to our rooms with our drinks when it got busy.

I came here for the second time hoping it would have improved but the service was over dramatic which made me feel quite uncomfortable as it's such a small space of a restaurant. The food was pretty bland and it just didn't fall to my taste. Presuming that was poor recommendation or it was just the curry. The waiters were happy to share their past experiences with us which isn't very appealing when I come out to eat with friends! I suppose this will be my last visit. Normally always have a take-away from here but decided to have a sit down for once. I must say the revamp makes it look like a different restaurant. The new colour scheme make a change from the normal dingey red and yellows found in most Indian restaurants which in my opinion is a good thing. The food is spot on like always, especially the Salmon dishes. You pay for drinks what you pay at the bar, so you know your not getting "stiffed" in that department unlike most Indians. Overall a pleasant experience, friendly staff and food with plenty of colour and flavour.

Last night I had onion bhajees - the flat variety with a delicious browned outer layer, followed by mixed tandoori meats with bombay potatoes. I know meat and tatties, but it was excellent with prime meat with sprinkled with a thick sauce and a side sauce in addition. Not the usual dry stuff. Great food and friendly service without breaking the bank. Josh will also adapt his cooking or make a requested dish if he can. A great informal night out.

I am a regular supporter of the Harroild Indian Cusine. Josh has supplied food in the restaurant for family and friends both inside or take away for a number of years. The food is always tasty, I am not a true spicy person but enjoy the Indian experience. The staff are always very helpful and will bring good British drinks from the bar next door. Josh always comes to see me and has delivered to my door. The same attention to detail has always been there even with a party of 16-20.For a good deal go on a Monday or Wednesday the Banquet Nights.CCHarrold Indian Cusine is the original indian in Harrold...

Promised to do a comparison having eaten recently at the Spices of Paradise, and the Muntjac a few days later, both are in Harrold ( so this is a tad late ). I thoroughly enjoy the food at this restaurant. As with Spices of Paradise, it isn't a Bombay Brasserie or Veeraswamy, but doesn't pretend to be. It offers good value ( especially banquet nights ), good quality food. Sauces used to be a bit on the sweet side, but less so nowadays. The service is good, the staff friendly and drink prices are normal ( drinks come from the Muntjac pub, not the restaurant per se ). I will continue to patronise the Muntjac, and not just because it in my my "local". Personally I would rate the overall experience slightly higher than The Spices of Paradise, but I know other friends who think the other way around, a bit like the Four Pillars / Spice Garden scenario in Olney. Enjoy !

The food here is excellent. Seven of us had pop's, starters and mains with various sides, breads and rice and it was all very good indeed. Friendly service, nothing too much trouble, and when they made a mistake in the kitchen and sent out an extra dish that no one in the restaurant ordered, they gave it to us!Things you should or may like to know about Muntjac (Harrold's Indian Cuisine). Situated on the High Street the building houses a free house (pub) and restaurant. The front door from the street is straight into the small pub, dominated by quite a long bar and otherwise comprising a small number of tables/chairs, bar stools, sports TV and pool table with some bench seating. Service was prompt and locals friendly enough! There is a small gravel car park to the rear of the pub and a side door from the driveway into a lobby off which are doors to the bar, restaurant and toilets. Under 14's are only allowed in the bar during the early evening while it's quiet, but with the side door you can get to the restaurant without needing to go through the bar.Entering the restaurant via a small reception area there are two smartly dressed rooms with a small number of tables in each. The first room features a glass floor topped well with gold fish swimming down below in flood lit waters. Tables attractive with linen cloths and napkins. Waiters smartly dressed in house "uniform". Initial impressions all positive.Good number of choices available on the menu with some unusual dishes too. They are happy to go off menu or adapt dishes to your personal taste also. We had two side dishes that weren't on the menu, and had more chilli added to a medium curry (our idea of medium was hotter than theirs). Everything we had was great. There are a few English dishes available too.Drink orders are fulfilled from the bar by the waiting staff on a cash basis. At the end of your meal there will be two bills, one for food and one for the bar. By chance we paid by cash. It seems cards are accepted for food (although a handling charge may apply according to the take away menu), but it appeared that cash was required for the drinks. (You can take your pre-dinner drinks from the bar through to the restaurant too)There are a variety of offers advertised, from eat as much as you want buffet on Sundays (£9), to a deal on Monday's and Wednesday's (two courses for £10), and an £10 voucher on bookings of six or more (although when I asked about that I was given a loyalty card giving £10 off a meal after five visits). Also free delivery or 10% off collection on orders over £12.If in the area again would definitely eat here without hesitation. The lamb tawa was delicious, really was full of flavor and the meat was very tender. Only visited as a result of TA reviews, so thanks to those that went before me, a great recommendation, and hope many more give it a try as these guys have a great place.

Located at the back of the pub. Always excellent quality, whether dining in or ordering a take-away. Food is delicious and freshly prepared. A warm welcome always awaits and the service is brilliant. The only restaurant Ive ever been in where you can stand on a glass floor and look down into a well with goldfish in it!

We love the Muntjac's food, and the service as always perfect. They're accommodating, will make dishes not on the menu if you request, will make good recommendations and will make food milder for the kids. You'll normally have to book on Friday or Saturday night, but it's generally easy to get in the rest of the week. Wednesdays are good value with special deals....we wouldn't bother going anywhere else as the Indian's we've tried in Bedford have never matched the Muntjac.

Tucked away behind a village pub in Harrold, this is a hidden gem of an Indian Restaurant. All food is cooked fresh and, as other reviewers have said, can be customised to your liking.Personally I like it hot and there is a local favourite know as the 'rob special' which claims to be the hottest dish on the menu. I can personally testify that this is a dish to blow away the cobwebs yet still very tasty!Excellent selection of real ales and wide range of other favourites available from the bar.Thoroughly recommend!

The food at the Muntjac, which is tucked behind a local pub, is fantastic. They are really accommodating - if you want a particular dishes milder or hotter you only have to ask - and if there is something specific you want that's not on the menu they are only too happy to make it for you. The staff are attentive and great with the kids too. (Opening at 5.30, its great to take them earlier). The menu is extensive and reasonable. The only thing you do have to remember is to take cash to pay for the drinks, which are billed separately from the bar.

Coming from a nearby village, we weren't really aware of this Indian restaurant which is separate to the pub it's connected to but clearly is in partnership with operationally.Could do with some marketing I think as we were very pleasantly surprised to find such a great Indian in a nearby village.Good food, professional & swift service, excellent menu...I could go on but I believe this is a nice little find, very good value considering for money too.The environment was cosy and slightly quirky which added to the character in my opinion. We reserved a table via their website e-mail details and I'm glad we did....it was a Friday and the both pub and restaurant were very busy and full, but it did make for a nice atmosphere. We'll return.

With all the international cuisine to be found in Bedford there is a surprise in the lovely In the North Bedfordshire village of Harrold - There is a traditional English Country pub 'The Muntjac' - with a traditional Indian Restaurant attached to it.It seems an odd compatibility but the food here is really good, the service friendly and accommodating, the price very reasonable.A small but nice restaurant and a delivery / take out service is also availableFor those who like a good, well cooked, fresh Indian Food take a trip out, you won't be disappointed.

Our family have been using this takeaway for a number of years. We have been very happy with the quality of food for most of this time. However, I believe the place has changed owners recently. Unfortunately the quality of their food has gradually deteriorated over the last 6 months or so. Because we had previously been very happy with the food we thought to give them benefit of the doubt last few times but not anymore. Our last takeaway a couple of weeks ago was the worse we’d ever had from Wilstead Tandori so we will not be using them in future. I can only describe the food as “odd” because it was tasteless apart from all the popadoms which were stale or had been cooked with over used cooking oil. I’m not sure if the delivery driver works directly for WT but he’s so miserable I wouldn’t have him working for me as he gives a bad impression for the business.
