I had an incredible dining experience at Thali & Tandoori Indian Restaurant in Bedford. The flavors of the Mother Chicken Butter, Lamb Chops, and Dry Meat were simply outstanding, delighting my taste buds with every bite. Cocktails weee really nice too. The attentive and friendly waitstaff added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. I was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional service and the delectable dishes. Thali & Tandoori is definitely a gem that I would recommend to anyone seeking an unforgettable Indian dining experience.

Moving to Bedford from London we were delighted to find this restaurant after being disappointed with many other Indian restaurants in town. The food is excellent, drinks menu is fab and the cocktails really nice, we have brought friends and family here many times. The service has always been great, staff are always friendly, attentive and polite. I've seen some reviews complaining that their meals took 30 minutes to arrive....that's because they are actually cooking them, not microwaving them like other places! You should be worried if your complex dish arrives in ten minutes!! I've always found the food to arrive in good time even when really busy. Decor and ambiance really thought out. Can't recommend this restaurant enough :)

The food and the service with the waitress was very good But we had a very awkward situation with the manager We went with our dog, who is an assistance animal... If in the venue don't make any problem with animals we don't feel in need to show any certification. So we entered the place an the staff in a very friendly way help us to find a place for us and the dog (he didn't say in any time that dog weren't allowed there) but after we ordered our food the manager notice we where with the little one and came in a very rude mode asking if this is a guide dog, because only guide dogs are allowed, I show the registered card of my pet and after seeing it for a few seconds he left it on the table without saying anything to us and start to screaming to the kitchen and other staff in their Language, the only word we could understand was that he was repeating several times "guide dogs" It was awkward and rude, it make me feel uncomfortable and assistance emotional pets are for hidden disabilities (as it saids the card what is) so i couldn't have my lunch in a good way because a start to feel anxious, we take out our food and I have lunch on my hotel room... We where the only table in all the restaurant, we though we could have a calm lunch, if the venue have a problem with animals you could let us know from the beginning in a good mood, is was no need of rude attitudes for that.

Probably ordered too much, but there were a lot of great choices. Slow cooked meat dishes are highly recommended. Today we booked for a party of 5! Never 4 as they have falsely 'claimed'. Myself & my husband have dined at this restaurant many times before in which both the food & service has been exceptional. We travelled specifically with friends on this basis all the way from CAMBRIDGESHIRE. You don't make that kind of trip if you don't have praises to sing about Thali&Tandoor. However today has left a sour note. Upon arriving, they seemingly had no note of our booking. Even to claim that we were a table of 4 would imply there was a table of 4 set, which there was not. We were left standing in the walk way, whilst it took 10mins to set up our table! Which meant seating 3 people along the back row instead of 2. Now if there was a table of 4 set, why would the addition of 1 more placement equal such a long wait. To lie is acutally shocking; we all make mistakes, it happens in every buisness however you apologise & move on. Our order for food was taken 1 hour after arrival. It is to be noted we did have a positive prompt order taken of our poppadoms & drinks, but the fact we had to ask for our food order to be taken, to then be left even longer before the waitor came back was unacceptable. The service was cold and rushed. There was no communication beyond the basic necessity of food service. No 'I'm really sorry I will be with you in a few minutes'. No 'would you like any more drinks', no check back on our food. The chefs! Fantastic! The food was beautifully made as it always has been. As a vegetarian, having the large diversity in options is the reason we come back over & over again to Thali and Tandoor (even with the unbelievably tatty menus). However, being full, I was not able to start my side dish of Massala Fries (v). So I prepped one single plate of my fries & left over Chole Aloo Frankie (v) together. Upon clearing our plates my husband asked the waiter if we could have this wrapped to take away. Our friend asked to have his plated meal wrapped to take away as well. My husband specifically told the waitor these were to be separate due to the meat in my friends food. Well the food arrived back all together! My husband popped up to the bar to let them know they had mixed everything together & that I am a vegetarian & won't be able to eat from the contaminated mix. Not including the fact our friend does not live with us, so 2 plates mixed into one is highly impractical!. We weren't even sitting together! When I can only assume a supervisor/team leader approached our table to discuss the matter, I was met with aggression over 'what exactly was wrong' and was asked whether it was the Lamb dish?!! Excuse me! VEGETARIAN, this is not difficult. I specifically explained it was an entire portion of Massala Fries(v) & a portion of my Chole Aloo Frankie(v). He seemingly understood this and stormed off. I wasn't left with any explanation as to what was going on. We assumed from the time once again left, that the food was being remade. I would like to repeat that at no point I or my friends have asked for anything off the bill. And we retained this throughout our full payment of the bill. We did however choose to ask for the 'discretionary' service charge to be removed as we were not happy with the service! And rightly so! The 'supervisor' did not take this opportunity to speak with us, discuss what had happened, but instead to aggressively remove items from our table whilst giving us the most disgusted looks. As a female, I felt incredibly intimated by the body language and incredibly uncomfortable with the way he spoke to me. I acutally wanted to shy away & wish I hadn't said anything! Being a vegetarian can bring alot of anxiety on its own, but in this day and age with dietary requirements being ever more diverse, this should not be a thing of 2023! We were flung a bag of food, I didn't check the contents assuming everything was correct. Only to arrive home now back to Cambridgeshire to find NO MASSALA FRIES! What an absolute joke! Yes I did receive odd pieces from my main dish but this is just awful. Incredibly upset.

Not one staff member asked if we were ok. The food was ok but it took 30 mins to take our order and the food took a while to come. Then we asked to have some food boxed up to take home and the mixed a vegetarians food in with a meat dish. If we hadn’t of checked we wouldn’t have known. Got the bill and asked to have service charge taken off and the waiter started to aggressively clear our table and give us dirty looks while we were finishing our drinks still.

I would avoid this place in future just because of the way they made us feel. Initial tone is so important for first impressions. If you're looking to get insulted then walk right in! To celebrate a family birthday we went, together with some friends of the Birthday Boy to Thali and Tandoor. We love this restaurant, great food and lovely staff. There were 14 adults and three 4 year olds. We have very much enjoyed Sunday visits to the restaurant, when the 'feast' is on offer. This costs £50 for up to five diners, so three of these would be ideal for us.I went in a couple of weeks in advance to ask if they would consider allowing us to have the 'feasts' on the Saturday evening, rather than the normal Sunday. No hesitation, quite happy to arrange this. Our family members have enjoyed this meal before, but the friends who were new to it assumed that the huge platters of samosas, bajis, battered vegetables etc constituted the main meal. These were just the first course. Then three roast chickens appeared accompanied by generous bowls of dhal, balti, chick pea dishes, - all sorts.Just brilliant, so delicious. Our family includes two vegans and a veggie and the few dishes they could not eat were carefully pointed out. There was heaps suitable for them.Having the food ordered in advance cut out the nightmare of 14 adults ordering a disparate selection of dishes, inevitably with confusion and duplication. The bill which included four bottles of wine, plenty of beer, a couple of cocktails and kids' drinks was incredibly reasonable. The staff are always so kind and friendly, and on this occasion also very patient with the three kids. For a gathering of friends and family, who enjoy excellent food cooked and served by charming staff it has to be the nicest restaurant in Bedford.

This is a aesthetically very pleasing restaurant it’s decorated very tastefully and I applaud that as a lot of Asian restaurants have a very bleak and old fashioned look. The starter was a off menu plate that was put together for us. Enjoyed that it was brilliant. The mains were perhaps not designed for a refined Asian/ “desi” palate… they were generally rather bland but again that maybe because they’re catering to more western palates. The service was slow , poor an at times unacceptable. As read below there are members of staff who errrm either don’t want to speak with you or speak in a lacklustre fashion. Mumble, quiet as a mouse on a Saturday night In a busy restaurant. A lot of the times just looked at you blankly and lost as if you were alien. Perhaps a restaurant!! Waiting staff!!! Is not the job for this individual… We were a large party but seem to me forgotten about… it was 20 minutes before we got asked for drinks or popadums etc …. Understood it can take a while to cater for a large group but Starters took quite some time and once served plates left there for 40 mins !?!? Not asked for any further drinks … a service charge is optional to pay right and we didn’t want to … to which the staff protested you didn’t spend enough or order enough!?!? Isn’t the whole point of going to a restaurant… ordering WHAT YOU WANT ?! I.e eat what you want. It all turned very sour on both sides I must admit but it’s unnecessary to speak to the women in our party the way one of them did which almost sparked a confrontation! Unfortunate experience, felt left out in the cold , other clients made priority over us , strangely enough a preference given to non Asian clients … in an Asian restaurant, from Asian people it was rather laughable… all of which we paid in the excess of £230 for.

Visited last night and food was fantastic, however the service was extremely slow. Appreciate times are a little harder for hospitality at the moment so my review is not based on the service. The main problem is the attitude and and friendliness of the waiting staff. One example was asking about if a dish contained nuts or pulses the waiter just mumbled it’s ok. There were quite a few instances and all my children commented about how they felt he was quite rude. It also brought up the conversation of a service charge. I did begrudge paying it last night and wish I had mentioned this at the time. Now on to the positive things, the sea bass, king prawns jalfrezi, butter chicken were all delicious and really well cooked. We’d have ordered a side with sea bass had we known it was literally just the fish. We were not advised of this. The sides of sag aloo and chicken tikka were again lovely. Not sure when I’ll visit again but for food is definitely worth it.

T&T dished up some very tasty food in a pleasant setting with good service. I dined there with a friend. His whole sea bass was cooked perfectly and he said the spices added flavour. My chicken dish was a little tingly without being excessively hot - excellent use of spices. The dish gets marked down a little because some of the chicken was on the dry side, over cooked and the accompanying Tarka Dahl was a little too watery and bland. Overall though it was a very enjoyable meal.

Later, upon reaching home after collection, found that rice were missing. When I called them back, they promised to refund the amount for rice but it wasn't great to be eating the order without rice. The Thali concept is unique for Bedford, but the taste experience is more for non Asians who aren’t familiar with the taste of south Asian food. Was just another home dish for me, grew up eating this stuff, which can be made with minimal costs. However, I believe that this will provide a great experience for many people. Can’t knock the restaurant down, just not for me. I will try other cuisines, Lebanese and Turkish to expand my taste buds.

The quality of the food was very good, lovely and fresh and you could definitely taste the quality of the flavours coming through in each dish. The only criticism I have was the service charge - I always offer a tip when I visit a restaurant and the food is good but to expect a service charge when the restaurant was dead and we were a party of two seems a bit unfair. If we were a party of six or more, a service charge would have been understandable but for smaller parties, this is not on and it will discourage people from visiting which is a bit of a shame.

This Indian restaurants bills itself as 'not British curry' and they are right. It's not a terribly extensive menu but that is fine by me - in fact I think that is prefereable in the current climate. There were two of us and we both had dishes that we have never had before. I had a butter bean starter and the Bengal fish curry and both were lovely. A real plus was the cocktail which was, again, something different. I cannot remember the name - Gents something? - but it had rum and fresh ginger in it and was the perfect aperitif. It's not a very big restaurant and we were concerned about sitting too close to other people but they seated us at a table for four so we could sit in the centre of the table with lots of room. It was a Saturday night and very busy but the service was good. Highly recommended.

The staff couldn’t have been nicer, very attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant itself is light and airy, very fancy (without the higher price tag on food and drink). Great descriptions of each of the dishes too, gives a clear picture of the origins of each dish. I’d recommend the chai mojito, and the house daal and okra fries! Would definitely visit again next time I’m in the area.

We visited last night and chose Thali and Tandoor as we had not been for quite awhile. I have to say that we had a lovely evening. The food was was great and really flavorsome really well cooked. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection as were the prawns. The menu has lots of interesting items on and one that surprised me most were the sweet potato fries. The menu does not explain just how good they are ! they are not what you are expecting ! A couple of negatives were that we did wait awhile to get drinks and on being seated we were given the menus. My eyes were drawn to the Duck Egg curry and knew i would order a side of this. On coming to order we were told that this was unavailable. I just feel the waiter should tell you whats not on the menu. Despite that the food, atmosphere, staff more than made up for it and I would happily recommend a visit to anyone who loves indian food. Thanks so much and we cannot wait to visit again soon.

After ordering a ‘kebab selection’ which was advertised on fb, we waited intently for our delivery. The ‘tray’ turned up. Nothing Like it was described. Chops, chicken tikka, duck tikka, sheek kebab, tandoori chicken, etc in fact we couldn’t decipher what some of the meat was but certainly no chicken in any of it. There was some prawns though, prawns which my wife is allergic too! There was no mention of prawns in this order. Rang the restaurant back, they said oh sorry we thought you meant ‘kebab selection‘ from our old menu. Wtf??? They could have killed someone. We’ll send the right one in replacement. Ok let’s give them a chance I thought. We then had a delivery of some tandoori chicken. Surely anyone knows if you are allergic to fish then anything else served in the tray is contaminated and affected!! £25 for half a chicken basically.

Indian cuisine restaurant run by Bangladeshi owner. Both vegetarian and non vegetarian food was delicious. Nice ambience and helpful staff. I was amazed that they also serve Thali. I will definitely give it a go in future. Parking around the restaurant could be challenging.

I made a order via just eat for 3:30 on a Friday , I was being updated by email on when my order would be on it way ETA was 6:40 , I expected some delay being Friday however road are empty due to COVID-19 . I called the restaurant about 7:10 pm and someone answered with very poor English I could understand what he was saying , I asked if my delivery was on the way , he said yes ! I ask how soon say don’t know ... I hung up and waited . I have 3 children who are now really hungry . I then called again at7:40 the same guy answered , I asked what’s happened to the delivery , he replied it’s been delivered, I said if it was delivery why would I repeatedly call , This man with no customer service and broken English said The delivery driver is a experienced driver and has drop the deliver 30 mins ago , at this point this guy hasn’t ask me for my address (strange) . He said I’m lying !! . I asked why ? He said because he is fasting (Ramadam) therefore I’m not and must being lying . I asked what religion got to do with my order he stared shout and hung up . 8:15 not oder . I would avoid this place at all cost , very militant staff with no idea of customer service , bad English quoting religion .

Very dry average food not good at all. Waste of wait time for delivery and most importantly waste of money.

Having eaten in the restaurant a few times in recent years, I decided on ‘lockdown’ to try a home delivery.I ordered the day before and was called back promptly to book a delivery slot. Food arrived on time, a Thali with dry meat curry. Really excellent. Authentic food. A welcome treat in the current climate. Thank you T & T.

Thali and Tandoor scores mightily over many if not most of its Indian restaurant rivals in Bedford in two respects. First its splendid location describing a wide arc around a bend in Castle Street; second it’s actually open some lunchtimes and Friday lunchtimes in particular. Thus it seemed churlish not to sample the delights of the set lunch menu especially a Thali with a choice of curry, dal, raita, a herby salad, rice, pastry and even a gulabjaman dessert. The sliced lamb curry was especially fine. However having only just been presented with a main and specials menu I felt somewhat pressurised to order by a waiter who seemed palpably irritated when I asked for the lunch menu. No espresso available so had to content myself with a mug of black filter.

Let's start with the most important aspect - the food. Without doubt a perfect 5 stars for the exquisite food on this extensive menu. The Chicken and Duck which we had for starters from the Tandoor were both fantastic and the mains of Dry Curry and Afghan Chicken matched this perfection. We enjoyed a delicious bottle of Sancerre along with the unbelievable food. The portions were large and fresh. Now for the reasons why it didn't get 5 stars. The tables are extremely close together, making conversations hushed. The device did not start great, it took 15+ minutes from being seated to ordering an initial drink. This becomes all the more frustrating when more attention is given to serving takeaway customers rather than restaurant diners. This did, however improve throughout the evening. Finally the pricing is excellent value. A restaurant which with a little more effort on the Customer Experience could easily attain all 5 stars

Been a number of times. Inside looks good with white tablecloths and sparkling glasses. Attentive staff giving good guidance, if asked. Lots of variation in menu, ranging from slow cooked lamb on the bone to traditional Indian. Good choice of beers, have not tried wine as not keen to drink with spicy food. All people I have taken have been impressed. Difficult street parking though, best in multi park about 5 mins away. Recommend this restaurant.

A real, authentic Indian which aims to stay clear of the "traditional" British-Indian restaurants. Most of the dishes on the menu here won't be recognisable with the exception of the odd familiar name. The owners are obviously trying to show how curry is really cooked in India with the meals on offer and they taste absolutely delicious. The food seems to have different layers of flavour with some items leaving a different after-taste to the one you first experience when you start to eat it. The menu is well priced with our meal coming in at £40 with 1 glass of wine included within that and we weren't able to finish our meals so we didn't go home hungry either. This place is highly recommended-you won't regret eating here!

My family of four adults was looking for somewhere to eat, at short notice on a Saturday evening. We found via Trip Advisor Thali Tandoori and what an unexpected treat it was.The environment, a former gallery benefitting from large plate glass window looking onto a not unattractive back street in Bedford, was clean, contemporary and comfortable. The staff were efficient, friendly and courteous and the food served was excellent and wonderful value for money.Indian food is amongst my favourites and I regularly visit and recommend to friends and colleagues such establishments as Tamarind Kitchen in Soho and Dishooms’ at Granary Square but neither, despite their excellent food and service, provides such value.I’m chuffed at discovering this great restaurant and fully expect to have book in advance the next time.

Not your usual Indian. A very eclectic menu which is quite hard to fathom. Tempting dishes although no indication of strength of spice. The Bengal fish curry far to hot for me. Ordered the Frankie starter - massive! Far to big for a starter - description poor as did not get what was expected. Service very good & attentive. Very nice setting and how tables are set out. Would return but need more help with knowing what I want to eat from the menu - more questions for staff needed.

Came in for dinner before a gig and they had no problem seating us- we did book. Ordered poppadoms which came very promptly with three delish sauces, followed closely by the fish pakoras, which were also stunning. The main course was the best I’ve had in a while, the standout dish being the Bombay aloo potatoes (I think they were called this) which were like nothing I’d ever had before. We shared a pistachio kulfi and fruit salad for dessert which was just the icing on the cake really! Would definitely reccomend to anyone who loves an Indian

Visited Tuesday evening, party of four. All chose different dishes & each one lacking flavour. Chicken dishes were dry as though leftover from weekend - extremely disappointing. Paratha bread greasy & solid. Where is the freshness we remember from this restaurant? This was once the best Indian restaurant in Bedford but sadly no more. Your loyal customers deserve a better experience.

My wife and I visited for a Saturday lunch, we were immediately greeted by a polite and attentive team. There was a good choice of vegetarian dishes on the menu. We opted for a matar paneer, butter bean methi and a portion of the house daal with a stack of paratha. All of this was preceded by some amazing starters (somosa chaat & vegatable pakora). The food was fantastic and the flavours were out of this world. We will be back!!
