Absolutely horrendous! Took my nan for an afternoon tea that was made out to parallel the Ritz like wise on price and it was disgusting. We barley touched the food, there was no atmosphere and a very loud live singer. Since when is blearing music a thing at afternoon tea. There were lipstick marks on every glass, in general everywhere needed a good clean. It was also very hot. We’ve contacted serval times and have been told a manger would call back but up to now we’ve received now call back. Very disappointing and we will never return nor will any of our friends we tell about our experience.

I was contacted on Telegram and offered money to leave fake 5 star review. I won't do this, and have reported to Google. Thought I should probably leave a 1 star explaining this to balance out so many 5 star that have amazingly arrived in the last few days. If you want me to review your hotel then I need to stay, and it will be honest. Otherwise how do we trust anything. 😊

I wished I could give no star, I am not a person who leaves reviews in general but they have some type of rudeness in dealing with customers I have been trying to contact the spa for 4 days and they let me wait and hang up the call everytime. £500 spent in one day in their hotel and they would not give not even 2 minutes to listen to me. All I wanted was to ask about the spa booked for my mother birthday, not like they care …

Very good hotel. In all honesty the price might be inflated because it’s the UK and the lack of competition in Liverpool. This is being picky though. Good to very good services and rooms are good. Attention to detail in the rooms like they are a bit stingy with the coffee. Being picky here but things like this for a 5 star hotel matter. If I came back to Liverpool I would consider rebooking. Excellent location.

We didn't like the size of the room, to say that we paid for a deluxe double@£186 we expected room to move about un hindered. Unfortunately the room felt very claustrophobic, the bed and the desk were so close together we couldn't sit at the desk. The corridor to the bed was narrow. The ironing board and iorn in the cupboard made it impossible to hang clothes in the wardrobe. There was no english breakfast tea in the room. We were looking forward to trying the spa as well but the £30 off peak and £50 peak cost each made us think twice. We expected a five star hotel hotel room to have more room. We've stayed in a few hotels in Liverpool, this one had a five star look but not a five star room and experience It was disappointing in comparison to the Titanic Hotel, which we stayed at in October.

I had a really disappointing experience at the spa recently. We booked the twilight package. Upon arrival we didn’t receive the tote bag or flip flops, nor the £10 gift voucher - which is a shame as I was planning on buying some more Elemis cleansing balm. The spa facilities are lovely, and after our visit we returned to the restaurant. It took over 20 minutes from being seated for somebody to come and take our drinks order - and even then we had to call the staff member over as they walked past. We waited a further 20 minutes without drinks. As our starter arrived, we asked how long the drinks would be (40+ minutes from being seated) and had to repeat our order as the drinks hadn’t been put through. Then, the drinks that arrived were incorrect and I had to request my drink be corrected as it was not what I had asked for (twice!). The food itself was lovely but I can’t recommend the restaurant due to the poor service. I contacted the hotel to express my disappointment at the lack of service, and the fact I did not receive what I paid for, and I have received no response - again highly disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend booking a package at the spa, as what’s advertised is not what is provided.

A really enjoyable experience. We arrived early evening, it was cold and wet when we pulled up outside, the concierge, Jude(?), was there to greet us, gathering up our luggage and escorting us inside where we were warmly greeted by the reception staff who quickly completed the check in. On our way to our room Jude enlightened us on the history of the hotel and some of its features; also recommending a preferred car park to the rear of the hotel with 'chargers' - we have an electric car. Our arrival experience set the tone for our stay - warm and welcoming. Everyone we met was friendly and made us feel 'at home'. Our room was cosy, warm and very quiet. The lounge was a lovely place to relax in the evening and the breakfast was great with many attentive staff on hand.

We chose the municipal just for a night for my 5 year old daughter to swim and play. Unfortunately, the pool is only offered for spa and 18+ so it was just a Staycation and dinner. Receptionists were very accommodating and just saved the day for me since my daughter was expecting that she’s going to swim. They’ve given her a tiny bear and chocolates and were very very friendly. They tried to find us a pool in other hotels. 10/10 very accommodating and friendly staff.

Positive points about the spa: lovely pool area and nice lounging area. Loved my facial treatment. Areas that need improving: No toilet roll in the only female bathroom and tampon wrappers lying on floor (not a great first impression) , no showers in the female changing room, you have to shower in the spa area which is open plan for everyone meaning you don't take your bathing suit off to shower. The female changing rooms are tiny with only one small mirror and 1 hairdryer for everyone to use.

It's very beautiful but the bed linen is not always perfect. This is the second time I have had laundry washed but stained and it is not acceptable. There was also a piece of paper in the trash can, a suspicious stain on the bathroom door (few would have seen it I admit) and some traces in the fridge containing only water. The Italian shower lacked pressure. The employees are not all on the same wavelength but in general they do everything to satisfy the customer. The restaurant closes very early (9 p.m.). The gym is not bad. Overall I recommend it if you have an occasion, a good price and also go there just for the bar and the bookstore.

My family and I stayed here in Nov 2024. It was our first time in Liverpool. And I must say the service here was one of the most amazing customer service experience I have had. From Charlotte and Tasmine at the front desk dealing with a reservation snafu, they handled it professionally and showed they cared about my frustration with great patience, to Jude and Matt (from Idaho) who showed excellent chivalry and kindness, and Scarlett C. in the breakfast times who took care of all my needs and wishes, without hesitancy, I had the most wonderful time. The location is great- near some wonderful restaurants and a convenient laundromat and grocers. Thank you again for making our first time in Liverpool a happy and memorable one.

Real positives and negatives to this place. Room was small, but nice. Not overly sound proof. TV was great and Chromecast very simple to use. Shower superb. The SPA experience was busy (6pm-8pm) but lovely, with plenty of different options, and the fella in SPA was extremely friendly and helpful. Down side, the bar is extortionate, the pointed corner at head height in the room just above the mirror is ill thought and I almost smashed my head opened, and the staff in the main were extremely helpful, with one notable exception. A tall girl from Liverpool, rude at both reception and in the SPA, obviously never heard a Belfast accent before, and after being overcharged at no fault of my own, wasn't the most understanding, thought management sorted the refund due in a timely manner. Both much worse, but also much better options in Liverpool, though it was a much appreciated Christmas gift.

A really disappointing post Christmas break. After working all over Christmas we were looking forward to our stay here. Our bedroom whilst comfortable was very hot and we were unable to cool this down however we tried. We ate in the hotel both evenings and enjoyed both meals. However, on New Years Eve we noticed that all the tables in the Palm Court were pre-booked, whilst I had a booked table to dine in Seaforth I didn’t expect to need to book a table to have a drink afterwards. I asked the supervisor Ellie what the situation would be for getting a drink as all the bar stools had been removed. She was incredibly rude to to me and abruptly said they were fully booked and I would not get a table. I asked as a resident was there no provision for drinks that evening as we were dining in the hotel she replied no it’s New Years Eve if we wanted a post dinner drink we would need to stand at the bar. I wasn’t aware we needed to book a table for drinks after our meal and was really disappointed she was so rude! After our meal there was many tables ‘reserved’ that were empty as people hadn’t turned up for their booking yet the reservation signs were not removed allowing people to use these tables. The following morning being New Years Day we decided to have breakfast in the hotel. We paid £25 per person for breakfast and it was a buffet style with luke warm eggs. To pay £50 for breakfast for two people I think is very expensive but to not even have a freshly cooked breakfast is again very disappointing. Miguel in the palm court and the gentleman that served us in the restaurant were both fabulous and a credit to the hotel. Overall a very disappointing stay.

This hotel is the reason why I created an account just to be able to review it. It is explendid. From the check in process, where Naomi the receptionist and Greg the concierge offers you the best of service possible, answers all your questions and treats you in the best manner possible to make you feel at home, which i believe is the most valuable for a hotel. The service at the bar and restaurant is also amazing, and the food and cocktails are amazing too, from light bites to actual meals, and the variety is really big, so it is worth a try. The spa is amazing. They have everything from treatments to pool with hydrojets, sauna and steam room, emotional showers, relaxation rooms, ecc. We stayed in the presidential suite, which again, its simply beautiful and high-tech, which makes me believe that all of the rooms on different categories are the same too. The breakfast is really good also, not a big selection on the buffet, however, when you get seated, you receive a menu with many options to order from which is also included in the price you paid. Pancakes, eggs styles of all sorts, english breakfast and more. At the check out, Jamie form reception made sure to help us with the bags and was dynamic with the check out procedures. Overall i would like to thank all the staff from the spa, reception and bar/restaurant for this exceptional experience you guys provided us. Keep up the good work. We will surely be coming back. It was an okay experience, I’ve received more luxury for better prices at other hotels. It wasn’t a bad experience, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, however, there was just a lack of attention to detail, I found. I booked an executive suite and asked for it to be located on a higher floor, but instead they gave me one located on the ground floor, since the hotel is centrally located, the road noise and hustle and bustle of the busy city street right outside the window made it hard to sleep at night (I’m a sensitive sleeper). The website said there was a car park but there is not, there are two nearby multi story car parks you can pay and park in (it cost me £40 to park for 3 days) and then walk to the hotel from, the nearest one is the Victoria street car park which is a 2 minute walk, just right around the corner from the main entrance. However, the concierge was very kind and took a trolley into the car park for me and brought my luggage in as I had quite a few bags. I was told over the phone that the hotel would be able to steam press my suit for me once I arrived as I had a reservation at a 2 Michelin star restaurant that evening for dinner, however, once I got to the hotel they told me they don’t have an in-house dry cleaning service, it’s all done outside via third party and they are closed on the weekend. Thankfully there was an iron and ironing board in the room so I was able to iron my shirt at least, but my suit went unpressed for the night.. Overall it was an okay stay, I believe comic con was happening at the time and quite a few celebrities who were attending the event were also staying at the hotel, so it was cool to spot a few here and there, but I didn’t go there for celebs ( I didn’t know about the celebs, one of the staff informed me), I went there for the amenities and the luxury, and unfortunately I found it lacking in both, but this is apparently the best hotel in Liverpool and also the only 5 star hotel in Liverpool, so I suppose this is the best the city has to offer. So there is a lack of alternatives if you are used to the 5 star stays/ treatment. I think next time I might just book a more luxurious stay slightly outside the city and drive in for whatever event I need to. We’ll see how it goes.

Stayed here for a night as a treat as I’m a student midwife and needed a break. Unfortunately, the hotel struggles to be the 5 star experience it’s trying to be. My room was lovely but the previous occupant’s room service tray was outside waiting to be collected from 3pm until around 9pm, which wasn’t pleasant and ruined the appeal of the beautiful hallway. However, the room itself was nice (albeit small for £150) and the bed/linens divine. When I attended the spa, dirty robes and towels were just piled on the floor and I assumed they would be collected by the time I finished my 2 hour slot, however this was not the case. No one ever came to clear old towels or robes from the pool area and/or replenished the water jugs/glasses the whole 2 hour slot either. The spa at the Hope Street Hotel is much nicer for a similar price point. Later, I ate at the palm bar area and the service again was lacking, I had to ask to order, ask for salt and pepper and when I wanted to pay I had to go to the bar as no waiting staff asked me if I wanted to pay even after my table was cleared. At the bar I stood awkwardly while a bar man and what looked like a bar manager with a beard and wearing a suit ignored me, chatting to what seemed to be staff drinking there on their day off and I had to ask if I could pay. I ordered the carbonara, which was very English style, swimming in double cream and almost like a soup. I pre ordered room service breakfast for around £40 when it arrived for some reason I was not offered the chance to charge it to the room and paid by card which then the server had to come back 2x while I was trying to eat as the signal kept dropping. The 3rd time I was called on the phone and then told I could charge it to the room, which I assumed would be the case in the first place as they had my card on file. The breakfast itself was literally one mushroom, one hash brown, one egg, one sausage and one rasher of bacon which was shocking for the price. I like to stay in hotels, and don’t mind paying for a special treat. But, this wasn’t worth it. It wants to be Claridges or the Ritz, but lacks the finer details (like silver service and attentive staff) to pull it off.

The only down side that I would say was the food, breakfast was good on the first day but nothing special, the other 2 days it was awful, we ate better in cheaper hotels around the Uk. Breakfast should have more choices (continental bkf ) and a la carte menu should be more well done, flavoured and better plated as it was the worst in breakfast.

Beautiful hotel unfortunately spoiled by inattentive waiting staff, Stayed for 2 nights, having both Dinner & Lunch in Palm Bar - waited a few minutes for cutlery and condiments after my food was served ? Why not bring cutlery with or before food ? Breakfast on the second morning was such an awful experience, I was seated, being advised by the waiter that he would return shortly to take my beverage/food order, I was left for 15 mins whilst he seated numerous other guests, took their tea/coffee order, food order and served their cooked breakfasts, I eventually left and checked out. Receptionists were shocked to hear what had happened and offered to get me a complimentary breakfast/coffee - I was already embarrassed and therefore declined the offer. Room 148 has a plumbers/maintenance access panel under sink in bathroom which was loose and fell narrowly missing my foot. I sustaied a small cut to my right forearm whilst trying to lift and put back (there were exposed screws) Reported to reception, received a plaster. Panel was replaced swiftly Great location and lovely rooms.

The staff were outstanding, so friendly and helpful, every single person we spoke to from the front desk to housekeeping couldn’t do enough to help us. We were disappointed that in order to use the pool we had to pay for a spa pass and that it was an additional £30 pp and we were limited to two 2 hour slots that didn’t fit with our plans. The price for breakfast was also quite high and unfortunately the quality didn’t match up to the price tag, the breakfast was nice but we had a long wait to order and for the food to arrive and the continental option weren’t worth the price. Beautiful building. Central location. Our standard room was slightly small, but the place is extremely quiet and walls are sound proof. Other rooms are slightly bigger. Very comfortable sleep. Slightly pricey bar, but probably reasonable for a classy hotel. Staff are sooo good! But then, people in the north, and especially scousers, usually are 👍😃. We did not dine in, as we were attending a family wedding nearby. I cannot comment about the booking price, as it was Mrs who booked it. I believe, there was an offer, as we booked 3 rooms for 2 nights.

I had a great stay. The room and Palm Court bar were excellently appointed and enjoyable to be in. The spa experience was worth the money, relaxing and calming me. Most of all the staff were superb.

The hotel is clean overall. I used the spa sauna, but I couldn't adjust the temperature of the sauna myself and it was lukewarm... Water pressure in the shower is quite weak. Be prepared to take a long time to shower.

My son Greg booked us into The Municipal Hotel & Spa as a 49th Wedding Anniversary present. We arrived about 3pm to be greeted by a fine young Gentlemen from America, Matthew was his name. Rosie checked us into our room, she was so friendly and happy, it made us feel so welcome from the start. Everyone seemed to know it was our anniversary as well, we where made to feel like Celebrities. Jude took us to our room 039 which was on the Ground Floor, this helped as I have two false hips and trouble walking. When we walked into the Room we where Greeted by Two Kissing Swans on the Bed from Housekeeping, I asked the name of the person who did it. The Housekeepers name is Buwaneka (I think that's how you spell it). Alex in the Bar was a wonderful young chap, full of smiles and Holly was so friendly also. This beats the last hotel our son checked us into for our 45th Wedding Anniversary which was at the Titanic, While the Titanic was Lovely. The extra attention to detail, staff and quality of the amenities and bed make this stay even more special. Thankyou The Municipal Hotel for make our Wedding Anniversary and Birthdays, Perfect.

I stayed for one night for a work do. Overall, it was all rather disappointing, despite the wonderful building (exterior and interior) and central location. My bedroom was 'ok'. Comfortable and reasonably clean (a small brown mark on the bed sheet let it down) if a little cramped. There was no proper coffee in the room, only instant sachets. For the price, I expect a coffee machine, or at the very least fresh-coffee bags. The signage in the hotel was almost non-existent. Where there was signage, it was very difficult to read (dark engraving, on dark bronze plaques in dark corridors!) which made finding my way around the hotel very difficult. On a longer stay I'm sure I'd get the hang of it, but if your stay is short, plan to spend a lot of time wandering around without a clue where you're going! Service in the restaurant and at the bar was painfully slow. The worst thing about my stay was the breakfast. I waited 10 minutes for someone to take my order. I ordered a full English (or 'Liverpool Breakfast' as they like to call it) but was disappointed that I was told I couldn't choose my eggs - I had to have scrambled. I waited 20+ minutes for the breakfast to arrive and was gutted to find that it was cold. The eggs were the worst scrambled egg I've ever had: dry, overcooked, rubbery, grey, flavourless egg. No staff came back to ask how my breakfast was and I didn't have time to complain as I had a meeting to rush to (I was late after waiting over 30 minutes to get my food). The location was great, but I won't be staying here again.

This hotel has been refurbished to the highest standards of decor and comfort, so many of the original features of the council offices have been kept and made to enhance the hotel experience. We’d love to return some time and would be happy to recommend it. The staff could not be more helpful and helpful to make our stay so enjoyable.

We had a meal there. The staff were exceptional. We were given a complimentary chocolate bar from a female floor manager. The waitors couldn't do enough to accommodate us. I had chips, fish and peas with tartar sauce. Peas and sauce served separately. The portions were enormous and the food was piping hot. The environment is spectacular. Highly recommend.

Don’t be fooled by the nice architecture. This is a hotel to visit for drinks or a meal only. The staff conveniently gave us a smaller room than we paid for. Only after saying something did they acknowledge the mistake and give us a bigger room. The larger room is over the front entrance. So every time the entrance door opens it bangs three times as it closes. The room service menu on the TV was postage stamp size. Almost impossible to read unless three feet from the TV. Food was nothing special. Refrigerator was not stocked. The TV guide is almost unreadable. It’s honestly hard to understand how it has a five star hotel rating. One of the worst hotel experiences we have had and are seasoned travelers. All this for a room rate of over $1,000 usd per night.

Amazing building, bar and hotel. Would be 5* if it wasn’t for the temp in our room - just SO hot no mater what we did with the controls. Will 100% stay again - best hotel in Liverpool.

Visited for 'afternoon tea' 6th April 24. This is my second visit (1st was for a cocktail when the hotel was newly opened.) I commented then on a number of points because I believe constructive criticism can be helpful. Sadly there is no change regarding the Brass around the entrance, still very dull. The front of house staff, waiters etc their uniform shirts are obviously difficult to keep white. Why not change them for a different colour.? They tend to look grubby. On arrival there were 4 staff at reception, 2 behind and 2 chatting with a can and bottle of soft drinks on the desk. This is not something you expect to witness in a 5star establishment. The afternoon tea service was good, very pleasant young ladies. The actual tea was mediocre, 4 small finger sandwiches, a variety of small cakes and a large scone with jam in a pot and cream(NOT CLOTTED CREAM) The sugar was in wraps?. Again not deserving of 5 stars. I was with my 89 year old disabled aunt and before we left she needed to use the accessible toilet which was occupied for some time. When the person came out it was a male member of the bar staff???. Surely staff have the use of designated toilets in a so called 5 star establishment?. I haven't stayed at the hotel and the liklihood is I won't but I am very proud of my city and make the effort to try out eating and drinking places and see what's on offer. I do not make these comments for any other reason than to hope they are taken as constructive.

Liverpool is full of great hotels, we decided to pay a bit more and stay at the Municpal hotel. The reception staff were fantastic, very friendly, but the room was clean but average and not sound proof, being woken up at 2 am to the people above living their best lives. There was no turn down, or refill. of tea coffee amenities, and you had to pay an extra £30 each to use the hotel pool, even though you were staying there. Was quite disappointing.
