The Mulberry Tree in Stevenage

I highly recommend the Sunday roasts: both half chicken and the nut roasts were delicious and huge. The service was excellent and the staff really friendly. We will definitely go back.

Visited the Mulbery Tree for dinner this evening and was very impressed with the food and service. Would recommend to try the bacon cheese burger! Well worth a visit. Staff could not have done enough to make us feel welcome also.

We had a lovely welcome from Daniel,he sat us at a nice cozy table...All the staff were lovely.... our food was delicious, my daughter had bbq burnt ends burger, and I the chicken Caesar burger which was equally delicious, both with fries,onion rings,all cooked just right.....the service was brilliant, Daniel checked on us several times to see if we had or wanted anything,without feeling intrusive ....lovely lovely young man....we will definitely be back. 10 out of 10

My favourite pub in Stevenage! I’ve organised many after-work socials and pub quizzes here for my department and the team are always the most friendly! Leah, Jack and Dan always have a smile on their face and make sure we are always looked after, even when we come as a big group! They have a cute, homely interior and a large beer garden! Couldn’t recommend this pub more! ❤️

I went with a friend and my partner + dog. Been to the Mulberry quite a few times with no issues. Previously the food was always good. This time, me and my friend (whilst waiting for my partner + dog) had starters which were nice for the price. However, the service of the bar person was terrible. I first walked in on my own, the beer I had was terribly pulled and tasted terrible but I’m too friendly to say anything. Then I ordered an another beer when my friend arrived, it was a chore for the bar person. When my partner arrived I ordered another drink through the app. 30 minutes and nothing. The bar person came to the table to collect plates and I said politely “I ordered through the app and nothing has come through” in the most bluntness voice she said they don’t get the app orders. And it sounded like it was my fault I ordered through the app. I was told it would be better if I ordered at the bar. I explained that I had ordered a beer and asked how I could get it or refund it, she rudely asked what beer it was and then dragged herself to the bar to get it. When she returned, she slammed the beer down. My partner had made the same mistake and got the same rude treatment. We were in shock and my partner wanted to call for the manager. But I’m too polite, so we went somewhere else for food. I don’t like creating a scene. But I was very disappointed. Simple service, that’s all we ask. We are customers, not mind readers. If your app is open, then I will order through it. If it’s not tell, preferably without the attitude of a toddler in a tantrum tell us.

Came to the pub for a friends 40th birthday and what a night we had! The staff were absolutely amazing, the food was great and we all had a brilliant night!! Will definitely be returning!

The Mulberry Tree has always been hit and miss. Staff are friendly, drink variety is good but the cleanliness is always questionable and after my last experience I would take that ‘questionable’ to horrendous. There are only 3 physical toilets for the ladies and they are always filthy. The toilet seat is ripped off in one cubicle, there is years of dirt and grime on the floors, around the sinks and the pet hate - never using the dispenser for the toilet roll, instead positioning on top of the sani-bin! Why?! Our visit on Friday 31st for me and 20 of my work colleagues was the worst it’s ever been. Reported to the manager (Steve) but I am certain this space is never checked or cleaned frequently.

We went in today at like 8 and the man behind the bar was really rude to my friend, i understand you’re serving someone but they weren’t stood at the bar and it wasn’t clear that he was busy so when she asked for a drink and he snapped at her it was unnecessary.

Fabulous food as per usual. Accommodating to what I requested as of allergy . Cannot fault the service and quality of food .

My patience has run thin with this place. I think it suffers with some identity crisis - it's a pub, bar, restaurant, club and therefore does not excell at any. Food is naff, beer is flat, place is sticky....for some reason its more expensive than the rest of old town per drink. Admittedly garden is alright but let's not forget it is just a carpark converted during COVID to maintain profit. They never cared for it prior to this. For me, my final straw was the place denying entry to my brother for not being adequately dressed. What does this place think it is? I'm not sure it knows either. Joke of place with some form of misplaced vision of grandeur. I will say, the ladies who work here are SO lovely so they'll gain a star for that. But unfortunately even Coach & Horses is better than this riff raff of a pub.

4 of us dined from the Main Menu at lunchtime. All 4 meals were fantastic as was the service! This is at the top end of Greene King Menu's and worth every penny.

Just back from a lovely lunch with friends at the Mulberry Tree. Lovely, comfortable pub, and tasty food served piping hot. Experience made all the better by friendly and efficient service from Aidan. We will be back.

We often frequent The Mulberry Tree for an early evening mid week drink. On weekdays, soft music is played offering a relaxing atmosphere. This is by far the best pub in The Old Town Stevenage for its modern but rustic decor with a warm friendly welcome. They have a huge range of drink choices including wine, beer, cocktails & gin. The service is friendly and efficient. It is a little on the pricy side (hence the 4 stars) but you get what you pay for.

Tasty open sandwich. Nice coffee and a pint. Dan at the bar very friendly and understanding as my newly rescued dog was eager to explore my order ! Many many thanks again for being so understanding.

Went with family. Ordered Sunday roast x4 - was told they had run out of roast potatoes. Chips as a substitute. Waited 45 minutes for service and had to chase. The food was average. The whole experience could have been much better.

We visited on 24th December 2023 to kick off our Christmas celebrations with a meal out having read many reviews of The Mulberry Tree. Sadly, none of them mention that this is primarily a pub rather than a restaurant with a pub. The place is very small with a handful of tables dotted near the bar area. There is no obvious place to report to upon arrival and no one is forthcoming with information about the lack of table service and having to order at the bar. I appreciate it was a busy period but the food took over an hour to come and it was annoying having to get up to queue for drinks every time we wanted more. The queue for the bar and the food were one and the same. The food was OK but the experience was spoilt by being surrounded by groups standing around the bar either ordering or enjoying drinks. Sadly, we won’t be coming back.

Right ripoff!!! First drink (double vodka with coke) cost £6.40 then after an hour....the same drink cost £8.60!!! Dodgy stuff!!! Not going there again...... right ripoff!!!

Came for Sunday lunch for a birthday. I had the beef roast and it was excellent very tender and generous portions. Staff very helpful and just the right amount of attention.

Waiter was abrupt, didn’t make you feel welcome. Pub was cold. Food came out cold, no apology when he sent it back to kitchen to have it warmed up, ridiculously small amount of gravy served with meal. Dessert, again cold and tasted stale 😡

My family and I visited the Mulberry tree yesterday, to celebrate a birthday. Some members of the family had lunch there and the rest of us joined them for dinner.The food was amazing and the service was outstanding.We had a variety of starters, main course, and desserts, and each person really enjoyed what they had ordered.I personally want to thank Dan our waiter, and Alan the chef for making it a very enjoyable day/night.Well done everyone, we will be coming back.The Casey family.

Visited last Saturday 13/11/21 for a old works reunion. I was really looking forward to catching up for a few drinks after such a long long time with old work colleagues and friends that funny enough all worked/still work in the hospitality industry some in management positions (including myself). So I will admit the night started off pleasantly when we arrived at the mulberrytree although with it being a Saturday night it was rather busy and the pub was bustling with people so we struggled to find a table to sit around so we had result to standing around a large table that was situated in the dance floor area, may I add that no one told us that we were not allowed to do this. So for about 45 minutes myself and my friends were all stood around this said table talking about old times and having a brilliant time reminiscing old memories working with each other until we hear a large bang come from behind us from a rather large and disgruntled man looking us up and down, we all turn around confused to be told "move all your drinks this table is now being used!". Myself and my party all look at each other confused as to who this person is as he wasn't in the usual grey t-shirt uniform that the staff members were wearing... I then reply saying "well that was a bit rude?" To which he replies "what do you mean?" I explained that "you could have just polite asked us to move from the table instead off slamming down what ever you have in your hand onto to the table and rudely telling us to move our drinks" he said "whatever I do and say is none of your f****** business bruv!" Shocked from the reaction I asked who this guy was to which he told me to "f*** off" and proceed to bad mouth me while I walked off and told him to watch his mouth. So I then decide to go to the bar and find a member of management to which a barmaid said that she would fetch her over and ran around what looked to be the whole pub to find her... while I waited I noticed that the man was setting up a load of DJ gear on the table to putting 2 and 2 together I assumed that he was their weekend DJ. Once I was approached by what I believe was the assistant manager (I believe her name was Kay?) I took her to the end of the bar to explained what happened with a friend that was part of my party for confirmation as the music and surrounding voices were rather loud, she explained that he was technically a 3rd member of staff hired externally to solely play the music for the pub over the weekends as one of their DJ's. In my opinion what difference does it really make? He works for you in your business so regardless of being external or internal he should still treat each customer with a bit of respect as all your internally hired staff? She explained that she would pass on the feedback to the general manager who was currently on his was back from a sister pub for some reason. After spending sometime near to the bar I was greeted by the GM (I think his name was Stephen?) Who apologised profusely and if I'm honest was the only one who seemed genuine about it, which is a shame that the other staff couldn't have the same amount of care... he explained that he would give myself and my party a round on the house to apologise and would have a word with him at the end of the night, whether this happened or not I do not know as we had left before the pub closed but I really do wish that at least a few words were exchanged... so after a few minutes after finishing the current drinks we had I popped to the bar to get this free round that as promised and the barmaid had no clue what I was one about... I had explained that I had an unpleasant encounter with the DJ and that the general and assistant manager was aware about it and that they had offered myself and my party a free drink each, again she still looked confused and unaware of this until the assistant manager came over and explained to her to just put everything through the till and on a tab and that she would comp it at the end of the night. So I explained what drinks I would like which were the following... two double Disaronnos and coke, two double Woodford reserves and coke, a double Hendricks gin and lemonade and a double Brockmans gin and tonic, so as each drink was being poured I was carrying/handing over two drinks at a time to then sit down and realise that we were short of one drink, again a bit of a pain of a situation due to having to wait behind a large crowd of people to then explain to the assistant manager that I was short by one drink from the bar maid that served me, she looked through the order as I guess she didn't believe me for some strange reason. She had asked which drink I did not receive to which I explained that it was a DOUBLE brockmans gin and tonic, she then grabbed a gin glass from the back bar filled it with ice and then poured a SINGLE and I just stood there and shook my head took the drink off her when she came over and went back to the table as I couldn't be bothered to explain that she didn't pour the requested double I had asked for. All in all the only thing good about the experience was the heart felt and genuine apology off of the general manager which I praise completely, everything else sort of dampened myself and my parties night. Working in the industry myself how hard things have been for us all due to covid and I understand that complaints come in regardless but the way that this was dealt was rather poorly if I'm honest, I've enjoyed many nights out in the mulberrytree in the past but I doubt I'll return until things change for the better.

Great experience overall! Barmaid leah provided me and my friends with an amazing fast and friendly service. I would 100% recommend for any occasion!

Went to the Mulberry Tree for a night out last weekend and we had such a great night! DJ Freedom played the best songs and we were dancing all night. The staff were so friendly and we were made to feel really welcome even though they were extremely busy. Thank you, we will be back

Came for dinner with a long term friend and her young daughter who is incredibly fussy. No swaps on the menu were too much trouble for the kitchen, the rest of our food came out lovely and hot and I would highly recommend the festive "hot cheese board".10/10 would recommend and compliments to the chef

Recent visit at a lunchtime with friends was disappointing. The guy behind the bar had little or no customer skills, making us feel unwelcome. A number of food items that our table requested were unavailable; the guy seemed almost disinterested; and when I asked if we could start a tab and pay at the end please, he responded: “Well, if you’re SURE you’ll pay at the end”. Really? We weren’t even sitting outside! The bread for my sandwich was dry/stale , with no garnish, so it was a sorry looking lunch. I wouldn’t recommend it (apart from the young lady working there - she was good at her job and friendly but we didn’t see much of her).

Some of our band members went here last night (Wednesday 20th Oct) for food and a beer before 3 hrs rehersals. The food was 1st class and imaginative which was an extra treat and good on price too. Bar team were welcoming and friendly and the pub itself looks a pretty cool place to be. Big thanks to Karie and Alan who cooked up the lovely food. Bravo!

Busy Saturday lunch and they were a member of staff down so only two people front of house. Was told food would be 45 as they had two tables of 10 in but came out in 20 and was banging! Veggie burger and the steak sandwich! 10/10!

Leah was our server for the evening. Whilst deciding what to drink she recommended the rhubarb spritz to me which was exactly what I was looking for in a beverage. Food came out really quickly Will definitely return.
