Got better over time. That's a good pub now, quite family orientated. Just had Sunday roast there today. Good quality and portion size. Would definitely go back there. A nice peaceful location. Great service. Visited again last Sunday;ordered Sunday roast at 7:00 p.m. it wasn't what we experienced ordering this at lunchtime last time; over cooked small serving of Turkey

Went there today with a friend. My friend ordered her food and I ordered straight after . Friend got hers quick after waiting for mine for 15 to 20 mine I went to find out what had happened to mine to be told people had ordered beforehand by telephone and they came 1st the woman who I spoke to had a bad attitude I only ordered a baguette never usually have this problem extremely disappointed.

Attentive staff, piping hot meals quick service, polite friendly staff, best restaurant/pub in Stevenage, it put the Highwayman in Gravelly to shame, Highwayman staff would do well the take a leaf out of The Red Lions book

Disappointing. Expensive for what it is. £3 for a pint of coke with 50% of that coke being ice. A merger "full stack" burger. With an unenthusiastic side of fries. Cheaper than other places, but you don't really even get what you pay for. Nice atmosphere. Shame trying to cut corners and it feels like a con.

I have had nothing but great service in this pub, visit at least two or three times a month, today one of the meals was cold, it was changed no problem and the lady was very nice about it and couldn’t of been more helpful

Came in this morning and was greeting by a lovely lady I believe her name was Aimee, she was attentive to my needs and nothing was to much trouble, she helped me choose a meal, and I have to say when it came out it was perfection cooked how I like it and tasted fab, so thanks to charlotte in the kitchen who cook this for me tasted gorgeous, Aimee came over to make sure my food was ok and if I Needed anything else Which was lovely as noticed a few people and she was serving on her own, place was nice and clean, and will be returning v soon, the staff really are a credit to this pub I could not praise them more.well done and thankyou see you soon . if I could give more than a five star I would amazing.

Food came out on skillets but were not hot only warm. Fries were cold. Rice was very dry by overcooking.

I am beyond disappointed with my experience at The Old Red Lion. From the moment we walked in, the service was shockingly bad. The staff seemed completely uninterested in their jobs, acting as if serving customers was an inconvenience. While ordering drinks, we were abruptly told, "Can’t have that," with no explanation, and the staff member simply walked away, leaving us standing there, waiting for someone else to assist us. When we finally did get our drinks, they were sloppily made, didn’t match the menu description, and looked like no effort had been put into them. When I pointed this out, the response was dismissive and indifferent. Things only got worse. We ordered three large Cokes, yet they arrived barely half full. When we went to order food, the same staff member who had previously ignored us suddenly decided they could serve us, with no apology or acknowledgment of their earlier behavior. The food itself was nothing short of a disaster. The onion rings were not presented as advertised, the chips were so overcooked they were inedible, and the Cluckin’ Mac n’ Cheese Stack—which was supposed to come in Texas bread—was literally just a dry portion of mac and cheese shoved between two slices of toast. The steak, despite being ordered rare, was unbelievably tough. Every single person at our table agreed that the food tasted off and was just not enjoyable. What made this even more frustrating was the complete lack of attentiveness from the staff. Our table was left cluttered for far too long, and at no point did anyone check in to ask how our meal was—even though it was a quiet Wednesday afternoon. I have worked in hospitality for years, and that’s what makes this experience so frustrating. I know how hard the job can be, and I also understand what it takes to provide good service. I’ve worked as a server, behind the bar, and in kitchens, so I fully appreciate the pressures that come with the industry. That’s exactly why I rarely write negative reviews—I know that bad days happen, and I know that working in this field isn’t always easy. But what I experienced at The Old Red Lion wasn’t just a bad day. It was a complete lack of care, effort, and basic customer service. I had heard great things about this place, which is why I was excited to visit. But based on this experience, I can’t understand why it has any good reputation at all. The standards were simply not there—not in service, not in food quality, and certainly not in hospitality. I truly hope they take feedback like this seriously because, as it stands, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had.

Just been for a Sunday dinner here. I must say everything was brilliant. My wife and two children (5 and 1) all had a brilliant time. The food was fantastic, especially the mash! Lovely cuts of meat at a great price. The staff were really attentive and extremely friendly. I will be coming back here again.

This is a regular eatting out spot and recommend to friends and family , food is perfect and it’s run so well . The manger is friendly and staff. have got to know the manger over time and he is soo lovely just a shame his having personal issues with someone who’s set out in destroying his rep because it didn’t work out and his moved on . Def would recommend and my kids love eatting there brillant priced and good deals . If u have a big family like I do def good priced and deals through out the week ❤️ Thank u to everyone at the red for making every visit friendly and good food and service and have made a lot of friends wiv other regulars

Very big pub great atmosphere bar staff very friendly service was quick had to order at the bar as the app didn't have any special prices/ what was on the actual menu didn't add up or take away the price on the app. We all had tap water but tasted like metal and bar staff said they were cleaning the pipes🤔

Came in for a few drinks with family and the service from Aimee and Kelly was superb nothing was to much trouble and made our visit extremely enjoyable

The main waitress was super lovely and helpful. The man working behind the bar was clearly in a bad mood and the customers in front of me also noticed it. And the girl who brought our food wasn’t to friendly either as she dumped our plates down and left. But the service of the older waitresses made up for all of that. Getting everything we needed. It’s great food and we love coming.

Used to love this pub, Went for casual drinks and snacks to catch up with a few friends I hadn't seen in a while as I live abroad,however,on Saturday the 4th, after chatting to some familiar faces in the local area; I was digusted to be told the current Landlord had sexual relations with a customer 28 years his junior in the pubs kitchen recently. Will never eat there again personally if it be true or not that's disgusting!! Was also stocked to discover he used to beat his wife who was a manager there at one point. For that alone,will not be visiting again after hearing that!! This used to be a lovely welcoming pub a year or so ago with a nice vibe and I will now reconsider.

Evening meal out for two and two dogs. Dogs treated like royalty with bowls, extra food and treats. Very welcoming and nice food. Staff always friendly.

No welcome drink, starter was a dry piece of bread with lettuce a piece of salmon and 3 prawns. Main meal was cold. Disappointing considering it was Christmas Day and nearly £60 a head. I did feel for the waitress she seemed rushed off her feet

The place was filthy food wasn't great got money back for a couple of meals money was just placed on table by landlord won't be going back for a while

Lovely place, visited 3 times now, great value and nice veggie choice. Dogs are treated aswell as the people. They've had sausage and steak on their visits.

Really pleasant evening spent here. Came in for dinner and a few drinks with the family. Pub was warm and inviting, nice music and friendly atmosphere. Food was great price, tasty and well presented. Very nice pub, very nice HOT tasty food. Lovely team to look after you! Good size car park. All on one level and easy for wheelchairs. (One step inside but that can be avoided) Definitely recommend! 😁👍👏👏👏👏

Was not impressed with the food at all. Burger was cold had it change and next one was still cold but this time had no bacon or red onion in it. I couldn't eat half of my food the chips was cold and peas was cold aswell. Staff were nice

Food was not to standard today, cold chips, one meal was requested to have no BBQ sauce or mayo but came out cover so was sent back, a half hearted attempt to replace it thrown together no sauce but also no salad the same chips as had sauce still on them. A new staff member who had no idea what she was doing. Disappointing tonight

Unexpected visit in the week. Busy but found a table. Good service, but was told an hour wait for food. Offered refund if we wanted, so fair enough. Food was OK, same as othe Hungry Horse. Clean, but could be better. Car park, but not the biggest.

Cutlery was dirty no cleaned properly. Food was under cooked & steak was medium rare not as asked well done. Staff seemed friendly

Pub wasn't busy. I was told to order at the bar. Only 1 man trying to serve two bars and take food orders on a hot day whilst the "girls" laughed and joked instead of wiping sticky tables. Food service seemed to be left to one poor younger lad, who was wiping tables, taking orders, bring out food and bringing in glasses from the tables outside. Food wasn't as expected. Hubby seabass was 3 flakes rather than fillets. We paid full price not the reduced menu. It was like a child portion. I shared half mine with hubby which wasn't that large. Won't be going back

Good honest, down to earth pub. We went for a meal in the middle of the day. The service was spot on friendly and efficient, not over the top. And the food spot on. We would definitely go back next time we're in the area.
