Falmouth is blessed with so many excellent places to eat our expectations were high when we visited this beautiful little restaurant with such a fantastic reputation. We opted for the tasting menu and advance notice of a pescatarian in our group meant they had already prepared a suitable alternative menu. The welcome was warm, the service excellent, and the food was exceptional. Every course was thoughtfully constructed and beautifully cooked and presented. It was all delicious but that incredible custard tart desert is worthy of a special mention. Happy to say the evening exceeded our expectations and we’re looking forward to a return visit.

What a gem! Hidden away without any obvious signage, the restaurant is located in an old cellar, painted off white so still feels airy in spite of lack of windows. Lovely, friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating waiting staff. The chefs accommodated late notice of a pescatarian diner which enabled us all to have the tasting menu (must be ordered for the whole table) (£70). Enjoyed the wine pairing too (£59). Food was delightful. My non-pudding-liking husband even ate the dessert (high praise indeed). Very small niggles: portion sizes are very small, which may not suit everyone and some of the same dressings etc seemed to be used in more than one dish. Would highly recommend.

Wow! This is a lovely restaurant, one of the best we are at during our stay in Cornwall. First, the setting: the decor is very simple; you sit downstairs and the restaurant has a bit of cave feeling (I mean that in a good way!). There are noise dampeners on the ceiling so you have no trouble hearing each other. The service is very friendly and they’re very happy to answer any questions about the menu or the provenance of the products. We opted for the tasting menu. Everything on it was great. The duck, which was perfectly cooked, and the egg custard tart were particular highlights. We didn’t choose the wine paring as it seemed a bit expensive, but had several different wines by the glass, which were all very good, particularly the whites. Perhaps the only improvement would be if the staff made sure the wines were always on the table with the appropriate dishes. For example, we each ordered a glass of wine to go with the beef, but the meat arrived first. Something similar happened to the table next to us who had taken the wine pairing. But that’s a minor criticism in an otherwise brilliant evening.

We booked this restaurant a good few weeks ago and got the last table for a Saturday evening, so we had high hopes for a Michelin guide worthy meal. Walked in and were welcomed by the team and seated in the snug (dog friendly area). Presented with the tasting menu and also the small plates menu. The waitress that served us let us try a few wines to decide which we wanted, which was nice. I asked if there was any gluten free bread available (I’d let them know I was gluten free on booking, but there wasn’t). We decided to order 5 small plates between 2 and went with; a polenta mushroom dish, carrots with romesco sauce, John Dory with chicken butter sauce, chicken with orzo and ndjua and pork belly with garlic slaw (although one of the menus said the pork came with cassoulet beans so we had to clarify this). The polenta and carrots came out first, after a few minutes we realised the other small plates weren’t coming at the same time so we started to eat these first. The polenta mushroom dish was pleasant enough but over salted and with very few mushrooms, very small and more of an appetiser than a small plate. The carrots were so so, al dente carrots in a sauce that was fine. The John Dory then came out, a fairly small piece of fish that was in an overly salty sauce again, and the fish was slightly overcooked. Then our pork belly and chicken dishes came out. The pork belly was fine, slightly drier than it should have been and the accompaniments weren’t particularly special, but overall okay. The chicken in orzo dish was very strange, a congealed looking orzo which had no discernible flavour, certainly no ndjuja. The chicken on top was fairly dry and had a kind of boiled taste? My friend couldn’t eat it and left almost the whole dish. After about 20 minutes, when I’d long finished the pork dish, a waitress came to clear our plates and we explained the chicken dish was unpleasant. Unfortunately this wasn’t dealt with particularly well. An awkward ‘oh okay’ with no apology, and no offer of a replacement. We finished our wine and asked for the bill. The waitress from the beginning then came over and explained they’d taken off the chicken dish from the bill, but no apology or acknowledgement that our meals hadn’t been checked at the time. The 12.5% service charge was then added on with no option to remove it. Overall, the food was the main disappointment, lack of gluten free bread provision isn’t acceptable anymore especially with no other carb options on the menu. The service felt amateur and this was highlighted when something went wrong. An expensive and disappointing evening unfortunately.

Underwhelming. Having expected so much I was simply underwhelmed. The welcome and service was just ok. One of the restaurant staff was very pleasant. Another apathetic and another very shy and timid. Not once were we asked how our food was. For a very small restaurant that's just unforgivable. With less than 10 tables you should be checking on each table regularly. Food was nice, however we found a number of dishes very salty. Salt does not compensate for taste. Service was surly, impersonale. The food, whilst decent was not always appetising, salty, and lacking in depth. The best dish was the crispy polenta. We visited for a special occasion. Would I return? Probably not.

Dinner. What's the true definition of a hidden gem? Well, we found one in a basement off the high street in Falmouth. With a beautiful, bright and airy interior. It's been open just about two years now. When choosing a place to dine out,we like to check out the credentials of the chefs first. These guys CV's are impressive. . There is a tasting menu or a choice of small plates. We decided on the small plates to create our own tasting menu and just about ordered everything. To start, warm Rosemary focaccia and Cornish seaweed butter. A very tasty Sweetheart cabbage with hazelnut butter. Crispy polenta, Cornish mushrooms, paprika mayonnaise. Falmouth carrots, romesco, pangratato, a little al dente. Newlyn John dory with a devine chicken butter sauce. Cornish hake, pea and mint warm tartar that just flaked so delicately. Philip Warrens pork belly, bean cassoulet, green sauce. With the crispiest of skin, not too sure about the beans. Pastured chicken, orzo, nduja was so tender. To finish we had to try the desserts. The Cornish strawberry set cream and the delicious Custard tart. Dishes were served as and when they were ready. The service was relaxed and charming. We said a quick hello to the chefs before we left and were back at hotel all within just over two hours. This is a hidden gem that's well worth seeking out.

We vusited the Mulberry in Falmouth as a treat for our wedding anniversary having read a review of the restaurant. We ordered the tasting menu and the wine pairing. The food was exceptional. My French husband voted it the best restaurant food he'd ever eaten. The food was exquisitely presented and the beauty of the tasting was it really made you slow down and savour and appreciate the flavours and artistry of what was on the plate. We were there four hours, but the time flew! The restaurant itself is simple and unpretentious, everything is about the food. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the dishes, simply because we were wholly absorbed in the occasion. But I did manage to photo the menu as a reminder!

Fantastic subterranean restaurant with an exquisite tasting menu. The staff were all incredibly eager and attentive, and you could tell how passionate the lead server was in guaranteeing a good experience. They were also incredibly accommodating for dietary requirements. We let them know ahead of time that one of us was dairy intolerant and they had pre-prepared and printed a dairy-free version of that night's tasting menu, which was just as good as the regular menu. Overall a delightful experience!

Very small portions for tasting menu. Cold celeriac puree ( intentional) but served next to hot venison, hot jus, hot carrot and hot venison Ragu in cabbage - just wrong. Dessert pistachio sponge worst I've every had slightly caught and over baked. Salted miso caramel ice lovely but ruined by sitting on a pile of chocolate crumbs. Overpowered whole dish. Petit four. Awful Then top it all. You don't get a bill just told how much and service charge was added. Was supposed to be a treat birthday meal but left feeling deflated and hungry.

We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and the food was phenomenal in both the cooking and presentation. The wines chosen were a brilliant match and were great in their own right. Update 22/4/2023 We visited again this evening and Mulberry is just as good - well done all! Really creative and inventive dishes, all of which tasted superb. Lovely friendly staff. ********************************************************* This place is a little gem. From the moment you walk in, you know that you have found something special. The service was friendly and attentive but not overly so. The choices available were all really interesting (which means we have to come back to try those we didn't have - try stopping us!). As for the inventiveness, creativity and execution of all the dishes we tried, this was second to none. If Google allowed me to award an 'extra special' star, it would be justified here. Fantastic food, service, setting. Can't complain about anything. Feel bad it was so quiet on a Thursday evening. Pray people read this and go. All food was a class apart from most things I've had in Cornwall. This was chapping on Michelin territory. The best course was the pork tenderloin with pan haggerty. We ordered another. I can't gauge pricing at the moment as inflation makes it impossible to define what is expensive anymore, but it seemed reasonable given we had a wide range of dishes. Waitress really helpful and friendly without being intrusive. GO HERE! IT'S GREAT!

Every dish from the perfectly cooked homemade Focaccia to the dessert was flawless. The menu held great provenence with local suppliers featured such as the incredible Patricks Patch Forced Rhubarb. The staff was really nice. It's a pretty place. The flavour of the food was really good but I have to say that we were really disappointed. I checked the reviews before we booked. The meals looked amazing on the photos but what we got it wasn't what we saw. The portions were not even half of what we saw in the pictures, it felt like it was overpriced for what we got. Small but wonderful selection of meat, fish and vegetarian tapas-style dishes. Very pleasant service from a small and knowledgeable team keen we chose well. Very unusually, two tables came and left without ordering. This seems to be down to a recent change of proprietor and a radical change of styles, all too much for what is, I guess, a novelty resistant local clientele. I hope they thrive, and if so, we shall return.
