First breakfast at Newquay after seeing some reviews via YT videos. The lady at the counter was so nice and kind and really welcoming. We opted for the pancakes and scrambled egg on toast. It was amazing, loved it! Only bit of advice I’d give is - please provide more options for the pancake flavourings and secondly, please provide other breads other than the sourdough only for the bread. (I didn’t ask if there was any other bread so may be wrong here) Overall, enjoyed it!

Great little brunch /coffee venue. Things are a little over pricy but the quality is there and portions are good! Great coffee beans, no bitterness. All round great service and good vibes

Great service. Gorgeous food with little tables outside on a not very busy street. Staff did all they could to accommodate customers and customers were a happy mixed bunch of couples , friends and peeps with very some very well behaved babies. Definitely recommend!

"10% holiday tax", In May half-term: I ordered a takeaway coffee and croissant. After paying, I realized that the amount was higher than I expected. I asked the lady at the till about it, and she explained that it's the "10% holiday tax." I pointed out that this tax wasn't displayed on the board or window. She showed me the eat-in menu with tiny writing that mentioned the 10% extra charge during holidays. Curious about the purpose of the tax, I asked if it was for council upkeep, and she said yes, during holidays, everyone charges it. Later, I asked the barista, and he gave a different reason, saying it was to keep the business going, and again, everyone charges it. This surprised me because, during my one-week stay in Newquay, this was the only place that applied a 10% holiday tax, and also, they didn't openly advertise it. In response to the box&barber comment: I was getting a takeaway. I looked at the prices on the display board, which did not mention/include the tax at all. It is unreasonable to expect people to look at the eat-in menu to see there is a 10% tourist tax

Rude staff, for some reason charging a 10% holiday tax which is not advertised on the board or the menu which says 10% tax for public holidays but they're charging me mid week and rude about it

We visited box and barber In Newquay at the start of august for breakfast. Ordered a pancakes and bacon, scrambled eggs on sourdough with halloumi and a açai berry bowl - we were very surprised how good it was. Nicely laid out little place, very busy mainly because of their excellent reputation. We ordered and food came out quickly. Also picked up a overnight oats when we left, the portions were huge! We definitely be going back when we visit Cornwall again next year. Thank you

Coffee here is bang bang - lovely flavour and well made . Food style is awesome , great flavours although my Maverick wrap was loaded with egg shell or grit on the spinach - ate what i could as had to get on the road. Would deffo return , awesome atmosphere too ✌🏻

Visited for breakfast first time visiting Cornwall was really excited to come here after seeing the reviews First off can't fault the food everything we ate was really tasty. The issues we had were bad service and cleanliness First off the man that served us didn't even get a response off him after paying he just walked off then when we were brought our drinks we got 2 of the dirtiest glasses I've ever seen so we asked for some new ones and we're brought 2 more which were still dirty Then I ordered an acai bowl I was never brought a spoon so I stood at the counter waiting for a few minutes 2 women working there just walked past me ingoring me then the same man that served us went I take it you want a spoon so he knew he hadn't brought one All the cutlery had dried bits of food on it so I got another batch from behind the counter which I helped myself to and these were dirty too. I don't normally write reviews but felt compelled to write this one I don't know if the staff are just too busy as it's got too popular but manners and being polite takes 0 effort in my opinion and when your spending £30 on breakfast you expect to receive clean pots/cutlery. Wouldn't visit again dissapointed.

Not amazing but not terrible either. Ordered the pancakes with bacon and eggs. Bacon was good quality but the pancakes were a bit tough and dried out and the eggs were odd. They tasted slightly burnt while also being quite soft and verging on undercooked? I like my eggs soft but this was almost too much. Like overcooked eggs were mixed in with raw egg I suppose. I’m sure visiting after the holiday period would be better as there’d be less pressure on the kitchen. It was busy when we visited.

Brunch was good, Avo nice and fresh, pancakes delicious. Busy place but quick table turnaround. Good coffee and service. Dog friendly (a fair amount inside) cosy corner for me to crank out my laptop for a bit of work time too with charging sockets all over.

Really friendly, and the food was excellent. My wrap (“Box breakie wrap”) was pretty much the best I’ve ever had. Thank you!

My teen daughter and I came here three times in one week - it was so good! Fantastic pancakes; yogurt, fruit & granola bowls and amazing 'breakie wraps' which were really filling. The drinks are great, esp the coffee. Service was prompt and friendly. It's nice starting the day with "Have a beautiful one. " Just wish we lived nearer ' - we'd be here all the time!

It is a nice looking place with ok coffee. But the service is extremely slow and frustrating. Also, it seems a bit much to have to pay £4 for a takeaway coffee (even a soya one). You do need to improve a few things there.

Found this place on the walk into town. Food was beautiful, flavoursome, original and really tasty. Alterations to menu were completed correctly and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Came here after seeing all the great reviews and wow it did not disappoint, the food was incredible and it was so nice to have something completely different to try for breakfast and really great coffee

Had breakfast here twice this week with the family and both times it was excellent. The pancakes in particular are delicious - but be warned - are huge portions, so expect to take some home with you (they will give you a box) or if you have only a limited appetite perhaps share with someone. Absolutely delicious, and the coffee was good too. Can get very busy - so if you come at peak times, expect to wait for both a table and for your food to arrive, this is not a place you want to be if you are in a hurry. Light, bright, mixture of inside and outside tables. Bit warm inside, but still a nice place to sit. Will definitely come here again for breakfast on our trip.

I was recommended to visit Box and Barber for lunch. Arrived and as a wet day was quite busy inside, tho had a good vibe, and interesting menu from what id quickly read outside . There were a few spare tables so I sat down . Realised after short time that as no one came to table it was order at counter . I also noted after I had ordered, the couple in the corner who were in before me, had realised same thing, and weren't waiting for their food, but needed to order too. My coffee arrived and was good. Caught up on couple of emails , thinking my order was imminent. After about another 10 mins the order for couple in the corner came out, followed by the order for a table of 4 who came in and had ordered even later . After this wait, I had to go, as it was only to be a quick pit stop lunch. I asked a member of staff , who to be fair checked immediately, and said kitchen was just browning my wrap order . It now had to be a take out as I had an appointment which I was now gonna be tight for time. Just had time to eat 1 wrap towards my car, and leave other one til much later . Bottom line, good coffee and interesting menu, and flavours were good but had to eat so quickly I couldn't really enjoy. So some sort of a ticket rail system wouldn't go a miss in the Kitchen, and a clear sign to order at counter would also help ...

The slowest service and expensive. If you can cope with these 2 things then the food and the drinks are excellent. Delicious, healthy and original

Lovely food. Only had fried egg on toast but the toast was lovely and the eggs were beautiful. A mistake had been made on our order at the till where I had been undercharged. The owner refused to accept the extra and simply said it...

We wandered in because of how cute the cafe looked and because it has several vegetarian options. Overall, the food we ordered was really quite good. There is plenty of seating space as well. Ordered the box burrito, maverick burrito, Momo raspberry kombucha and a rise and shine smoothie. The burritos were excellent and the portion sizes are perfect for a lunch.

I have been to a lot of cafes, and this is one of the best I've ever been to. I'm still sat in my seat, very full after eggs on toast, a perfect flat white, and a custard cruffin that is one of the tastiest pastries I've ever had. Everything was flawless, from the service to the music. Seems they are happy to welcome dogs and remote workers too. It's priced about as you would expect (maybe a little on the expensive side, but it's a tourist town so probably cheap for Newquay). I honestly can't fault this place, and will be coming back next time I'm down here.

Less than generous portions of food. Not great value. Small cups of coffee. Not the biggest of places and full of dogs. Unhygienic! Food and dogs is not a great mix. Watch out for the extra 10% charge. It’s a “holiday tax”. Not sure why...

I have never seen such friendly staff. The gal at the till and the summery dress server were so accommodating and chatty. It was genuine. Despite busy Easter holidays! Coffee was great too but I would go back there again for the staff.

The biggest reason for the 1 stars is the fact I cannot pay cash and the coffee is 50p more expensive then everywhere else! Staff were friendly and coffe was ok! But go up the street better coffe they accept cash and 50p cheaper!

I ate breakfast here every day for 5 days when I was visiting Newquay for work. Great, fresh tasting food and really lovely staff! Will for sure be back again on my next visit!

Quite a minimalist kind of place but very tasty & healthy food. Green tea was loose leaf too, always a bonus. The staf are friendly, had a long chat about Newquay and other restaurants. Would put this one on my top places to visit on the next trip back

Dropped onto this walking out of town towards Fistral beach. Good service and the food was great, seriously good. not too many options made for easy choices. Sourdough with a cracking portabello halloumi, avocado, mushroom, good eggs, a healthy flourish of beetroot hummus dusted with chia, pumpkin and other seeds go on try it...

I didn't see a single box or barber in this place but luckily I wasn't looking for either. What I did find was some really incredible coffee and brunch. I had a cappuccino and I think the Big Box Breakfast (?). They just changed their menu recently so the one uploaded to Google is out of date. Regardless, I'll come back here again soon!

Food looks good but I didn’t enjoy the grey nut cream sauce on the eggs benedict, this also isn’t mentioned on the menu which is dangerous to anyone with a nut allergy.

Great place, with nice food. I am brazilian and I was so happy to have açaí bowl. The açaí bowls are served for breakfast, but when I rang the shop the staff could prepared a bowl for me at evening time ( we brazilians eat açaí no matter time). I had a nice experience there, so I will return more times! :D

Arrived after noon for brunch post body surfing! Ordered avo toast with poached egg YUMMY! Açai bowl was Delish, had chocolate frozen yoghurt under the fruit and granola. BIG bowl of chips Vanilla latte and iced Vanilla latte very good. Since discovered Coffee in Newquay is sooo good in the smaller run businesses.
