Wow! Amazing. This is a really special place - we loved it and will definitely return. Lots to like: for a start the delicious 'Michelin' quality food, beautifully presented and prepared with great care, then there's the impressive Georgian country house. As soon as you enter the magnificent entrance hall and staircase you know you're in for a treat. A previous review was negative about the decor but we absolutely loved it. The dining room was very light and painted a pleasant pale green with cream walls and matching chairs - very relaxing - with huge mirrors and impressive paintings. The new bar area was fab-ul-ous! with its ink blue walls and contrasting vibrant chairs and cushions. Great atmosphere - we could have stayed there for ages! And then there was the friendly, efficient staff with their excellent customer service. Finally, we had a lovely amble around the gardens. In summary, a wonderful, enjoyable and memorable visit. Thank you Rebecca and all the staff.

Food was lovely but ambience cold and austere. Dining room reminded me of an old fashioned hospital. The old comfy lounge has gone and been replaced with more dining tables and everything is very white washed and severe. Main bar area is comfortable with sumptuous furnishings and lovely paintings. Head bar lady loud and brusque. Food is good but otherwise definitely lacking atmosphere such ashame

Our third visit to the Mount. When we arrived at the bar, we were met by experienced and knowledgable staff who helped guide us through their extensive wine and fantastic cocktail lists. The dining rooms are beautifully decorated and the food was prepared and served to a very high standard and in a relaxed atmosphere. please keep the good work going. See you next time.

Our first time visit since The Mount reopened and what an absolute treat. From the updated contempary elegant decor to the excellent service and phenomenal food, we had a fantastic evening. Complimentary and delicious, hand made canapés with our drinks, we're a lovely touch. I'm a very fussy vegetarian but there were choices for me and my husband, a dedicated carnivore was in heaven. Desserts were to die for and making a choice was difficult. We will definitely be returning and I overheard they do afternoon tea, so will definitely be looking into that with friends. The prices were reasonable for the quality of dining. The gardens appear to be having a re-vamp, so some empty flowerbeds outside but that didn't take anything away from the fantastic grounds and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Definitely worth a visit.

Having eaten in many fine dining places over the years I can firmly put this restaurant high on the list. The food was absolutely delicious with the blackcurrant soufflé the lightest I have ever eaten. It really was incredible. Just one little point …. The dining room feels like it needs some furnishings and is lacking warmth in the decor . Apart from that, loved the whole dining experience and will definitely be back.

Amazing food, we loved the crumpet dish and the rhubarb soufflé- great feedback from my foodie husband. Service was friendly. However some constructive feedback was the cocktails could have been stronger and the venue felt a bit ‘cold’. Suggest looking at the lighting in the dining room to make it more atmospheric. Otherwise it was a great experience and I’m looking forward to returning

Had the set menu for lunch and it was divine. The tasty canapés, the light as a feather cheesy cheese soufflé, the luxurious braised beef cheek, and the fabulous frangipani tart, just blew me away. By far the best food I’ve ever had in Somerset. All for £30, just incredible. The beautiful setting, stunning décor and artwork, with all the staff making us feel thoroughly spoiled, it was a wonderful experience. Definitely going again soon.

Our first visit here! We came for Valentines evening. We had a warm welcome. Enjoyed a drink in the beautifully decorated bar area next to the log burner. The food was exceptional as was the service! Considering the age of the building and the size of the rooms, the dining room was pleasantly warm, which was a great. Too many establishments are not warm enough. The dining room would benefit from background music being louder but apart from that a very good experience. We can’t wait to go back.

Our friends treated us to dinner at this lovely hotel. The house was originally called Henlade House and was built between 1805 and 1815 by an unidentified Italian architect. It became a hotel in the 1990s, and the original name of Henlade House was changed to the Mount Somerset Hotel and Spa. When we arrived, they escorted us to the terrace where we could enjoy the beautiful gardens and countryside. It was a lovely evening – crisp but not too cold to sit outside and enjoy our cocktails. While basking in the late afternoon sun, they served us complimentary hors d'oeuvres – such a lovely touch. When it was time for dinner, they escorted us into the dining room. The room was so elegant – pleasing colors and crystal chandelier. Bruno, our server, was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The entrees were beautifully prepared and scrumptious. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

We visited this place for lunch, it was very expensive! I love good food so don't mind paying for delicious quality food. Was left very disappointed with what was on offer. The menu was very limited , for my particular taste. I could only eat 2 things on the menu. I ordered the chicken, mushroom and truffle which at £22 I expected great things from. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The portion size is very small with no vegetables. The sauce was not nice and everything seemed slimy! I tasted that sauce for the rest of the day ! didn't enjoy the meal at all. If you looked hard you could see truffle flakes. The pudding was better, my friends had the souffle which they said was lovely. I wouldn't eat here again.

See my review of the hotel as a whole. The chef, Mark Potts, has only been there since last Christmas, but has clearly stamped his mark on the cuisine. We ate there two nights and the food was excellent on both occasions - most impressively Mark was off on the second occasion and the sous-chef was producing dishes of identical standard - sign of a well-run kitchen. The dishes are inventive - quail with English breakfast was intriguing and turned out to be beautifully cooked quail with a quail's egg on a black pudding roundel, shard of pancetta (not quite English) and a few other things. My main of pork belly and langoustine was exquisite. Above all, the sauces were top-notch - deep, flavoursome and reduced just enough but not too much. This man has a real feel for flavours.I suspect some might think the portion sizes a bit on the small side - they probably wouldn't do for a trencherman such as Jay Rayner. But my wife and I found them perfectly judged and one can always pig out on the home-made breads and the dessert. Just enough to leave one purring with satisfaction.Excellent service from very well-trained staff and a warm ambience - nice to see families and young couples as well as corporate staff ready for the next day's hideous conference/get-together.

Having last visited the Mount Somerset some 15 years previously, I had high expectations as it used to be a first class hotel and restaurant. Although I didn't sample the hotel this time, my feeling is that the restaurant offering has declined. Whilst the decor and presentation were good, the whole place was quite quiet and seemed to lack atmosphere, although it did get a bit busier as the evening wore-on. One of the main let-downs was the menu: little choice for a vegetarian and not all that clear what some of the dishes actually were (perhaps we are philistines!). The service was OK although there did seem to be a lot of waiting around. When the food came, again it was alright although nothing exceptional. All in all we felt it was over-priced for what we had.

Food was nice, not as amazing as I had expected but it was fine. Waitresses seemed a bit clueless, various mistakes and didn't know anything when questioned about the menu, dessert cutlery was plonked down incorrectly, didn't seem in keeping with the rest of the place. We started in the lounge where we had drinks and ordered our food. Appetisers were brought out, which were lovely and then we moved into the dining area. We were then brought amuse-bouches, mushroom soup for most and a separate amuse-bouche for those who had ordered soup as a starter, a consideration which I was impressed with. I had ordered the goat's cheese parfait to start and the chicken with risotto as a main, both of which were delicious, but not outstanding. I had the chocolate and caramel marquise to finish, which came with a lovely sorbet. I would say that at £35 for the menu, the meal was good value, although obviously we managed to push that up with the rather expensive wine. The service was excellent, attentive and polite without being overbearing.

Four of us went for dinner. Sat in the lounge for pre-dinner drinks which were promptly served. On the table were a bowl of oil-soaked nuts and some olives. There were no napkins to wipe oily fingers after picking up the nuts, and nowhere to deposit the stones from the olives. Just as we finished our drinky and were ready to dine, we were presented with some hot canapés - very tasty, but served without warning at the wrong time.At the table the waiters had no idea how to serve correctly. Ladies were not served first, and they obviously did not know the correct sides from which to serve and then remove dishes. Worst of all, we were constantly addressed as 'Guys', which is not what we expected from a restaurant in such lovely surroundings, serving excellent food, at a price of around £50 per head.I repeat that the food was excellent, but I can't take business contacts there again.

We came here for my mum's 65th birthday having heard that the food is superb. I have been for afternoon tea here and it was lovely. It seemed they had all the trainee waiting staff on that night, they were a little clumsy and clueless, which took away from the professionalism of the place. The food was okay but I was expecting more really. I had the lamb, it was a little fatty but there was an aubergine on the side masquerading as a brick, inedible. The Dauphinoise potato was a little hard as well, not melt in the mouth like I'd been expecting. I ordered the cheese and biscuits for dessert. It came with a nice selection of 6 local cheeses but 4 small crackers. Plus the grapes looked like someone had been picking them off, the bunch had grapes missing from the bunch, it just looked scruffy. It's such a shame as I'd been really looking forward to the meal.

My friend and I booked a table for two on a Friday evening. We were warmly greeted, shown to comfortable lounge chairs and offered a drink before our meal. This was accompanied by complimentary hickory smoked almonds and assortment of olives (my favorite) and then tiny warm canopies which were delightful.Once shown through to the beautiful dinning room with stunning views we enjoyed a complimentary mushroom soup served in a coffee cup and saucer. The rest of the meal (£35) was also delightful, beautifully presented and served.http://www.themountsomersethotelandspa.com/pdfs/du-jour-menu-sample.pdf We enjoyed our coffee with petit fours back in the lounge. So we arrived at 7pm and left at 11:30 - always the sign of a good meal in my opinion. We have booked a Christmas Party with them on the strength of this evening meal and are thoroughly looking forward to it.

Our usual group of four diners recently visited the Mount Restaurant. We frequently enjoy several different restaurants in and around the Taunton area, all of which are to our liking. However, the Mount was on another level, absolutely superb. Excellent cuisine served professionally, by courteous staff. The location and surroundings, of the Mount add to the overall ambience. A truly delightful dining experience. will certainly visit again soon!

Four mature ladies met for a Birthday lunch get together. The choice was difficult, so many good dishes. 3 of went for fish, one for veal. The presentation was superb and the flavours absolutely wonderful. We all having been involved in farming in our working lives, it was good to see so much locally sourced foods and it certainly showed. Portions were just right for lunch. For desert, I had a raspberry & vanilla panna cotta & it was sheer heaven. Wines were excellent. Coffee in the sunshine on the patio, overlooking the superb gardens, made a fitting end to a perfect lunch. Staff all very friendly including the very knowledgeable Gardener/Groundsman, who answered all our gardening questions very expertly and then showed us round the amazing spa. Hats off to Heaven!

The food was perfectly cooked and each mouthful had so much flavour! Perfect amount so no bloating afterwards, but the quality of each piece of food was outstanding and well sourced. Hats off to the chefs!

As a seasoned traveler, I have had the opportunity to eat in some of the best Restaurants and some of the worst in the world, but "The Mount Somerset" is in a world of its own, in being one of the worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, they give you little samples of deep fried stuff, that must have been bought in,, and the bread rolls are the smallest I have ever seen, and the the starters and mains, would not even feed a child, I saw on man eat is main in three mouth fulls, the Chef should hang is head in shame,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, this style of cooking died years ago, people want value for money not ripped off, there is a two coarse for £42.00 and three £49.00 however, if you only have a main, its a plate of food for £42.00 that would not feed an adult, take my advice, find somewhere else to eat,you have been warned, and my last point is that the reastaurant, is like eating in a Funeral Parlour no atmosphere

Celebrated husbands birthday with the tasting menu with matched wine which was deliciously cooked and presented. At £200 for us both it was expensive but it was a special occasion and we got to try wines and good food we probably would not have picked ourselves, like the stinking bishop cheese which was an acquired taste!Waiter was knowledgeable explaining each course and the wine well despite only having been there 5 days.Would recommend venison and the soufflé especially and the port was also really nice.

I have had a la carte before but I did not consider it value for money, £49.50 for 3 courses so I went for the all day menu. I had a very good parsnip soup with lovely hot rolls, then beer battered fish of the day(coley) and chips then creme brulee with sorbet. And a nice glass of orange juice. Very good service. None of the courses could you call substantial but that was fine for eating at 8pm. cost about £25. Quite full the restaurant.

The food and service was amazing, with our deal we got afternoon cream tea upon arrival then our evening meal. Canapés in the lounge while choosing our food, we were then taken to the dinning room where we had 3 courses, we then took our coffee in the lounge that was accompanied by some amazing chocolates.

I have to say I was blown away by the quality of the food at this hotel. It is pricey but for a change you absolutely get what you pay for. Stunning location and very friendly and well informed staff. If you are looking for a venue for a special occasion, then look no further.

I loved everything about the restaurant, it felt relaxed but special. The food was amazing, the sorbet with the elderflower egg custard tart was to die for. I can't wait to return.

Pity about the "relaxing" day in the Spa. No loungers to relax on and you have to shower and dress to go into the hotel lounge for your lunch..... then back into the Spa. Treatments were very, very good.

Had lunch at the Hotel today and it was excellent in all respects. Very welcoming receptionists, (especially given that we were almost an hour earlier than the time we had booked), excellent friendly service from the restaurant staff, extensive wine list and superb food - overall excellent value. We will return.

It was a beautiful summer evening, which set the scene, to arrive in a lovely location with views across the taunton vale. The staff were very pleasant and attentive, and ran in and out with our coats and drinks as needed, as we sat first inside, then decided to go outside on the patio for our predinner drink and subsequently back inside again to take advantage of the sumptious lounge, where we reclined on the relaxing sofas. The dining room was very impressive, with high ceilings, chandlers and crisp white linen table cloths. We were able to still see the gardens through the vast windows as it got dark.We all loved our starters, some of us choosing salmon and other scallops. For main course two of us had the exmoor lamb which was succulent. One person had fish, declared as delicous, two others had monkfish, also good but less enthousiastic review, a minor comment from them that the ham around it was dry. Only one person managed desert of a fruit tart accompanied by guiness ice cream, this seem to disappear at a great rate of knotts, and was followed by a very satisfied smile. We washed it down with champagne, also very nice, not acidic. Just time for teas and coffees which came with special chocolates.I chose this restaurant as I wanted to take my guests somewhere nice. I had been reliably informed by a 97 year old friend of the family (previously an art teacher at Millfield school, and of impecable taste) "that it is the only place in the area which is a real treat"

Great pub, great food and great service and really like the decor too. Food was so good and fresh. It was quiz night the night we went and it was a great atmosphere. Like being in someone's front room. We joined in the quiz although we are not quizzers but made to feel part of it thanks to the quiz master. Don't know her name but she was great. Had a fabulous evening. Thanks to all at the White Horse

We didn’t stay at the hotel but had Afternoon Tea there which this review is about! Poor service as waiters seem to have no idea how to serve. We were rushed to pay as they were finishing for the day. We were not offered what type of tea to have. One of us asked for topping up the water glass while the other two got ignored! They had no knowledge of the place either given it’s a building with some history! A refreshing conversation was with the gardener who has good knowledge of the place, but unfortunately it was too late.
