Visited today with a friend for afternoon tea, we had pre-ordered this and had to contact them at the last minute to say we were running late. This was not a problem and we were advised when we arrived that our food was ready but if we wanted to have a drink first they could just bring it out when ready. There was a selection of cheese savory, egg mayonnaise and ham finger sandwiches, crisps, fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and a selection of bite size cakes. The selection was lovely and just the right amount, the smaller cakes were ideal rather than a large slice. The setting was very homely and the service very good and at £9.95 each very good value for money. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Now renamed back to the Brawns Den after a £100,000 refit we were pleasantly welcomed by mine Host andy and served a superb meal.The meat was luscious and the vegetables were cooked perfectly

Nice pub but meals were very disappointing . Chicken was dry, fish had no fish . Chips were rock hard. I don’t understand why the chicken meals ie fajitas and Piri piri the chicken came at the end of serving everyone but the chips came first surely the staff has 2 hands-to bring the full meal out together instead of it getting cold waiting for the rest of the meal . Due to being a big party tables badly set up we had to rearrange still wasn’t ideal . Still had a good night with my family but wont be eating here again unless change of chef. staff behind the bar -girl not pleasant . Now 3 family members poorly after eating here

I visited the Morley Wood for Sunday lunch this week. It was a good job I booked in advance as it is a popular place with locals. The owner is a very nice guy as are his staff. We enjoyed our Sunday roast immensely. The Yorkshire puddings are the best I have had for along time, home made and fresh. We had the roast beef, roast pork and roast chicken . There is absolutely nothing to complain about. The beef was superb. Veg plentiful and fresh . All in all it was excellent value. I would recommend this pub 100%. We do not live locally , only here to visit a relative but I will certainly visit again when I next come to Durham.

Visited today with family and loved it. Food came within 10 minutes and was piping hot. Portions were very good sizes. You can order small or regular dinners. I ordered small which was probably normal size. All the staff were efficient and friendly too. Will definitely return.

Have visited several times and had a very good meal each time. The food has always been very nice, large portions and well presented. Meals are very reasonably priced. My only niggle is that the menu is slightly limited, would be nice to have a wider choice of meals, and also sandwiches/paninis etc. especially at lunchtimes when a large meal is too much.

Food was great. No doubt about it. Just a shame its manager and staff cant provide the service with a smile to go with it !

Seis de nosotros reservamos una mesa para comida alrededor de las 7:30 pm. Muy concurrido, ya que era un sábado. El entorno es precioso, buen ambiente, personal amable y muy servicial. La comida tardo un tiempo (aproximadamente una hora) para llegar a nosotros, pero el personal era obviamente de prisa. Por suerte reservamos una mesa de lo contrario hubiéramos sido decepcionados. Cuando llegó nuestra comida era caliente y fresco, de sabor y bien presentado. Volveremos muy pronto.

Had 2 Sunday dinners here.The first after a walk from Willington (longer than I thought!) Lovely food, people and service. Came back and had an evening meal which was spot on...that peppercorn sauce Is to die for (need a tub of it) (hint)!! Will be back again and can recommend all to try here. Thanks.

Although some items which we would have ordered ie burger or lamb where not available we all found something we liked, 2 had fish and chips with mushy peas which was hot and looked appertising, the chips and peas where lovely and the fish was o but was not cooked properly under all the batter, I had the hot beef baquette with chips which was nice and very filling but was not hot enough and could have done with onions to add some taste, however overall good value for money

Amazing food. Sunday lunch was fantastic. New owners are lovely. Emma is back as the chef. Back to its best. Massively recommend the morley wood. Fantastic and family friendly.

Booked a table on sunday with my family, quick service and fantastic food - homemade mushy peas and the mashed potatoes were not frozen pellets , new landlord and staff very friendly, would definitely recommend!!

Called in here today on spec and so glad we did. A warm welcome from the new landlord, who was very friendly. The menu has changed and SO much for the better. Food was really delicious, generous portions and best of all, fresh not processed ! Chips are to die for and menu is very reasonably priced. As the previous reviewer said, if you haven't been here for a while due to inconsistent food, please try it again now... DELICIOUS.

At last, we now have excellent food and great tenants. What a treat after such a long time. We will now be able to enjoy meals here on a regular basis. If, like us, you have stayed away recently, please try it again.

Decided to go to our local for tea after finishing work. We were very surprised there was only three people in having drinks. We missed the teatime specials that is on til 5pm so ordered from main menu. I ordered lasagne and my hubby had cheese burger. Have to say it was delicious. It was homemade food which always makes a difference and homemade chips. There was plenty of food on the plates. The staff were lovely and very welcoming.

Lovely back to old school home cooked menu. Staff very friendly( rebecca and emma) and chef very helpful when asked about the menu. Well cooked food especially twice cooked chips! Just the right amount of food. Will definatley return soon.

Called in for a meal, I read the other trip advisor reviews and thought why not. The footie was on .. This didn't bother us as it was a Saturday. My husband said that the fish n chips were the best he had eaten for ages, I had chicken fajitas again was nice didn't have room for pud we were stuffed. If we had found it the day before we would have eaten there twice. The staff are friendly and welcoming too.

Very friendly staff in a clean although basic looking pub . Great menu choice at a extremely reasonable cost. With a party of friends and we all had something different and all I can say is WOW! Every single thing was praised. Fantastic food beautifully presented and plenty of it ! Will definitely be back as value for money brilliant !

Having not visited for a couple of years I was interested to see that it is being re-furbished, so called in for a (very) late breakfast (ie 3pm). Service excellent. Wells Bombardier ale, excellent and reasonably priced. Food served on cold plate which meant that the latter half of the meal was as cold as the plate, but otherwise fine.

Excellent and friendly service. Steak was cooked perfect, served with lovely big chunky homemade chips. Defnetly returning and would recommend to friends.

Popped in for a meal before heading to Kynren. Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised to find friendly, helpful staff and great food. Will definitely come back and recommend to anyone coming this way. The main bar was very clean and had a nice family friendly atmosphere, family including the dog.

Visited for early tea with family ordered chicken fillet after cutting into it to put to my mouth the smell was terrible . I knew it was off returned it ,was offered another meal but never got the smell out of my nose so it was a disaster. This has put us off forever it should never have been served .

It's been a while since we visited the Morley woods , and the warm happy welcome we received was excellent, the specials board has now gone and the menu is nice and easy to read with a nice selection of foods , I chose the mixed grill and my partner chose the New York chicken , we didn't have to wait very long for our food and it was presented well but most importantly it was very hot just the way I expect my food to be served , we also noticed the Sunday lunch offer which again looks good and I am sure we will return very soon

After recent change in management I phoned to check dogs were still welcome in the bar, as we were planning on visiting for a meal as we'd done many times before. On the phone I was told yes they're still welcome, so as we walked in the door I asked if there was anywhere we couldn't sit. The answer was you can sit anywhere except on the carpeted area, which left 2 tables, one of which was beside the pool table, which would be fine if I wanted a pool cue in my ear. The other seat was virtually out the door, and the seat itself was rotten. We were invited to sit outside as well, which was good of them.... Needless to say we walked out and went elsewhere. Customer service not present here, and despite what we were told dogs are no longer welcome!

The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful, we were a party of 3 and a half (Mother, daughter, her partner and their baby). Excellent service and atmosphere.

I walked in , it was nearly 8.00pm on a Sunday(Fathers Day) evening , to watch football as the poster on window said we watch Euros 2016. The 'bar service' got off the ground I think ? she was painting and asked what i wanted to drink without washing her hands. I asked about football as golf on the screen and I was told the locals (all two others in bar) were watching golf. I have great respect for doing what the locals want but please take down the Euro2016 posters. You will not be suprised to hear I left.

me and my partner had the mixed grills ..... very nice and filling, lovely staff, very warming and polite and a good atmosphere, quick service as well, food cooked to perfection as always, the real ales are fantastic, loads of different choices of beers, lagers and ciders on draught as well as bottled. will definetly returning soon

Sunday lunch was delicious ...3 roasts to choose from and all fresh vegetables..homemade pudding were the best my daughter had tasted.staff as friendly and helpful as always.

Popped in as is handy to home. Had our two young daughters with us. Waited nearly an hour for our food. My daughter was crying because she was so hungry. The food when it finally arrived was mediocre. The waitress was apologetic but could only offer us vouchers which we refused because we never want to repeat the experience of eating at this pub. Terrible experience and a waste of hard earned cash.

We went just the two of us the food is terrible all frozen and greasy I had sausage and mash and it was mash not potatoes

Very accommodating. Made to feel welcome at first visit. Never been disappointed in last 3 months. Quiz night on Thursday.

Called in here just a few days ago of lunch as I was in the area and never been before. Heard friends in the past saying it's lovely. I had the fishermans medley which was nice but lacked in flavour. The staff were fantastic and warming

I have heard a lot about the pub since the new owners have taken over and to be totally honest I think to many people have spat there dummies out over nothing. Yes the previous owners did a great job but so are the new ones I think that just some of the regulars were to used to getting away with things and the previous owners were a bit care free with the rules. So now the new owners are doing what the law says and following the rules I think people are using that against them pathetic really. The food is just as good if not better than better than before and the staff are all friendly. The regulars have a lot to say to new people when they come in which I think puts people off not the pub its self! The outside since having work done is so posh was lovely to sit out there and have a drink. In my opinon there is nothing wrong with this pub just the regulars who can't get there own way!!! Fantastic food, great service and everyone needs to give the new people a chance won't be disappointed!!!!! Me and my family will be back no hesitations!!!

This would be my local, previous owner Rob was so well thought of and left a brilliant little pub with excellent standard food, a very difficult legacy to uphold... I had heard mixed reviews about the new owners and decided to try for myself. The food was as good as ever but with a few upgrades (better menus, sauces in bottles rather than God awful sachets!) Have had a few meals here now and the owners daughter has welcomed us every visit, lovely pub, lovely staff, looks like some work is currently being undertaken outside. Only negatives to speak of is there doesn't appear to be a happy hour menu (2 meals for a tenner) anymore!

Have reviewed this place a couple of times already, and have been meaning to try it since it changed hands as I have heard mixed reviews.The pub itself has had little done in the way of refurbishment, a vase of flowers here, a picture there , new menu layout etc, but nothing major. Staff are friendly as ever, few choice words from the clientèle propping up the bar, but nothing I haven't already heard. The most important bit in any review is the food, and have to say it was up to it's usual standard, so we will be continuing to visit. Big thumbs up from me.

Been eating their the past 3 year staff an food fantastic.walked in and it was not the pub I love the Morley wood .it was a adults play area.the table that was in eatting were gutted I was deverstated for them.loved that place but would not recommend it to anyone now unless you wanted to get mortal and get away with whatever with the female manger ment she joins in it her play area grow up

Tried phoning for hours thinking we had to book.. In the end just turned up and got a table straight away.. Food was very nice and very very filling.. The chips were probably the best I've ever had when eating out.. ant complain at all other than not being able to contact about a table but that wasn't required.. Started getting busy as we left.. still feel full a couple of hours later.. For the price and the quality you would be hard to get pub food as good..Thank you

Great food frendly staff.as in other reviews the morley burgar is a challenge. I'm a good eater but couldn't tackle this bad boy .chips are fantastic. Fab food and drink.

Its the first time i have been to the morley since it changed hands.As it was my stepfathers birthday we decided to go out for dinner.We all enjoyed the food i would say the dinner was even better than before.The staff were as friendly as ever,however,the new owner was not very welcoming.The whole time we were there he stood looking over at us in disgust.I also feel he didn't have very good people skills.Its such a shame as it was always very welcoming to familys,but we felt like they didn't want us there.We had 4 children in our party but they weren't being naughty,just being normal kids. In the end we were told the children would have to leave.I'm very disappointed as i use to visit this pub at least once a week and the children were always made welcome but now i will not be returning.

Visited yesterday with a few friends..staff very welcoming and friendly..i had the homemade chicken and mushroom pie and it was beautiful.my friends had meals off the 2 for £10 menu and said they were also delicious.

I have reviewed this pub on a couple of occasions an have never been disappointed, until nowThe ownership of the Morley wood has changed and the standards of the food and welcome have plummeted.The bar staff are the same but the chef has left, this is evident if you order food. It is a pity because this was a establishment that was worth travelling to enjoy. It is with regret I must now advise that you look for alternatives before you settle for here.

Took mum here for a family tea after she said she'd had a nice meal here a while back. There was 5 of us and the food took a while to come out. No complaints though as everything was lovely. Plenty on the plates and everyone commented on how nice the food was. We will definitely return!

Excellent service anf food very good value for money, corned beef pie and chips was delicious. Others had burgers and fish and chips and all looked lovely. Good portion size and pleasant place to eat.

I have been to the Morley Wood 4 times so far and every time I leave the place I want to go back. I had the Morley Burger twice a mixed grill and a Sundays dinner all of which on separate occasions of course in which all were fantastic. The Morley Burger is one beast of a burger, The mixed grill is tough to conquer as its huge (Sweet potatoes chips highly recommended) and the Sundays dinner is just the perfect meal on a Sunday afternoon with the family. The Pubs overall atmosphere is great also.My summary is excellent value for money, massive portion sizes and great atmosphere.

We visited the Morley Wood on a Wednesday not knowing that there was a 2 for£10 Mon-Wed,,, lucky.The food was excellent, service really good and staff friendly and helpful without being in your face. I had the gammon, wife had the omelette and the daughter had the lasagne.. I did try them all and would have difficulty choosing between them for quality.. We will be back....

I have visited this pub twice now and am planning to visit again soon. The portions are fantastic and are value for money. The staff are very friendly and the pub has a good mix of clientele usually making each other feel welcome. The premises are very clean. Looking forward to visiting again.

Been to the Morley Wood loads of times and never had a complaint yet, food is great staff are brilliant and the land lord and land lady make you feel welcome.

A large, fairly modern pub with a single bar/dining room. Excellent menu choice - old favourites, plus a few more unusual items. All served as generous (often huge) portions. And at very reasonable prices.We would definitely go back if in the area again.

Yes this pub serves good food but if you lived adjacent it's not so inviting when you have groups of drunks fighting and arguing along Winchester Drive, more so when turning out time is midnight and some of them sit outside the pub to all hours. Good luck to Rob and Rennata who must be coining it, but please have some thought for the elderly residents who live locally.

The food here is FANTASTIC. Huge portions and very reasonable price. We've never been disappointed food wise at all. We used to go quite often but found the last 2/3 times there's been kids running around and screaming and crying. I understand it's more a family pub but it is quite off putting as you can't really relax. Maybe having a family end would be an idea.

Visited this pub/restaurant a few times but could not find the listing to review it. Pleased to be able to say what great value and service. The portions are super so dont eat for a while before you go! It is a busy typical pub with the noise from people and televisions you would expect. Good range of dishes and prices to suit. I'm looking forward to calling in again and would recommend this to everyone who enjoys a decent meal without breaking the bank!

Have visiteed the Morley now a few times, and have never been disappointed. Yesterdays dish of choice was the Morley burger, resembling what can only be described as a tantilising tower of delights, akin to some of the burgers on man versus food. Won't go on too much as I covered it all in my previous review, suffice to say, this place just keeps on serving quality pub grub, at low prices. You really can't ask for anything else. I always feel that I have had a really good feed when I have been there, and this teddy bear will be venturing down to the woods again very soon...............

a busy little pub on the outskirts of Durham on the A690 westbound between Meadowfield and Brancepeth its certainly worth a visit, we went for sunday lunch and found it great value with small main course for £5 , larger portion for £6 or 2 courses for £10 or even 3 for £12 if you want to really stuff your face, there was a choice of 5 starters, 4 main meats including pork, beef lamb turkey with veg and Yorkshire puds, also a choice of about 6 desserts, the meals were tasty , hot and of a good size portion and as said earlier good value prices, we also found drinks both alchoholic and non to be of a good price too, as said earlier it is a busy little place which caters for all including children and can be a little noisy with the kids but that doesn't bother me as I think its great to see all family members catered for, on a warm day the pub also has ample seating around the outside of the pub so you can relax in the sun and have a cold drink to quech your thirst after your meal.to sum it up good value, friendly and we will go back

Visited this place after seeing its reviews, have to say the food was good, served on huge wooden platters and I would return for it defo but not with my wife. The ambience I'm not sure about, I took my pregnant wife out for an evening meal and it's really not the place to take the missus, bar was busy with rowdy drinkers playing pool ect and the shape of the building means they spill into the dining area, the table next to us was 4 lads all in full tracky b's who just swore solidly for the hour, also the paper strips they lay across the tables as a giant placemat do make u feel like your back at school? But a good cheap feed!

After arriving late in the evening on my first opertunity to visit this pub The Morley Wood !I was accomadated with crisps and nuts after being informed by very pleasing bar maids that food had finished at 9pm,it was twenty minuets to 10, i was so hungry and the menu dishes on the board were a provocation to my growling inners.Sympathetic gesture was calming but didnt cure the desire for meat after a long day cutting logs in the wooded hills where only the owl can feed.I wanted to sit with one foot on a chair warmed by an open fire ,smoke a pipe after a filling of steak. The second evening i put down my axe before sun set and arrived on time for supper,A hunters chicken from the menu and soon i had consumed what was food ! as it never touched the sides my taste buds never got the chance to taste the matter. Success ,satisfaction, I continued to work for another day, content with an atmosphere of homely.

There is no continuity with the meals here. Sometimes the foods good. Sometimes its not. On todays visit the chips had been cooked to death. In fact we are not convinced they were even fresh. I left half of mine and the margerine on the bread bun was an inch think and a heart attack waiting to happen. Really disappointing as it isnt rocket science cooking chips. Today was enough to put us off going back! On a positive note the bar staff are always friendly.

The landlord and his wife are excellent! The pub serves greats beer and the food is second to none! Farmers medley is highly recommended.

After literally the shortest wait for an order ever, I've just been presented with the largest portion of bacon and egg baguette with chips I've ever seen. It was incredibly tasty and the portion was unbelievable value. The salad complementing was tasty and very fresh. The people are very friendly and down to earth and the whole experience was typical of a warm cosy local pub with a great atmosphere.Incredibly impressed and will definitely be returning soon!

We have been to the Morley Wood tonight for our Christmas night out and my goodness the food was fantastic. From starter to main to dessert it was value for money. The portion size was massive. One of our party was vegetarian and was just expecting to get dry veg but they went the extra mile and added vegetarian gravy and extra yorkshire puddings. After the dessert the land lord came over with a bottle of asti, mints and chocolates soon followed along with a bowl of tangerines, just when we thought that was it we got a plate of hot mince pies followed by refreshing limoncello. We have all said we will be back again. Great food and fab atmosphere what more can you ask for.

Visited this pub after seeing reviews on trip advisor and made a 5 mile detour to find it. Can only say what a pleasant experience it was. The staff were very welcoming and the food was very good. My husband was astounded at the plates of food coming out of the kitchen. We had chicken and mushroom and steak and ale pies, both were very good although I think the steak was best. People on the next table got curry. This was served on a wooden platter consisting of a dish of curry, portion of rice, portion of chips, salad and either naan or chappatis - it looked gorgeous. Such a pity its a bit off the beaten track as I am sure it would get many more visitors. Keep up the good work, we will be back.

Some friends and I happened to be in the area last night and stopped here for dinner.The service was fantastic and they guy behind the counter couldn't have been nicer.We ordered our meals and drinks and when they came they were fantastic. The prices were that of a macdonalds meal and yet the quality, portion sizes and taste was unbeleviable! I wouldve happily paid an extra 4-5 pound for that meal.I eat out a lot and have exceptionally high expectations (you could say im a bit of a moaner when I go somewhere) and I would happily say this is one of the best meals I have had in a long time and for the price its the best value for money I have ever seen.Love this place and will deffinitly be returning soon.

I often come here with family and friends and we have never had a bad meal there. The owners and staff are very friendly and make ya feel at home. I would recommend this pub for amazing food and a brilliant night out.

Called in for a family mean on a Saturday night, reasonably priced, varied menu, not cheap as previously suggested but definately excellent value for money as the portions were extremely generous. There were a few old favourites to chose from as well as some original dishes, I can definately recommend the "sizzlers" the chicken was cooked well and the ingredients tasted fresh, "proper chips" a definate bonus! thought had gone into the presentation and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff were friendly and the service second to none. We didnt sample the desserts as our main meals left no room! £37 for 3 mains and 2 rounds of drinks is about standard. As previously mentioned the pub has had several owners, Rob and Renata have definately put the place on the map, long may it continue!

I'm been coming to the Morley wood for 17 year, and in the last 6 years this pub has never been better, It's the most friendly pub I've ever been in, the food is outstanding and the landlord is possibly the best landlord I have met.You need to try it to appriciate this lovely village pub with great atmosphere.....

Lovely cosy place to eat very friendly staff. Ive been loads of times with friends and family the foods great and i will be eating their again and again.

Over the years this pub has seen many different owners and no-one seems to be able to make it a success. Things changed when Rob and Renata took over. The pub is immaculately clean, decorated nice and the whole atmosphere is different. All staff are friendly and the meals a second to none. I'm quite fussy when it comes to pub curries as they never seem to tick all the boxes - this was amazing! Curry, popadom, naan bread, rice, chips and salad! It was a struggle to eat it all. Flavours and presentation was excellent, I would have preferred it a little bit more spicy but that's my taste and certainly not a criticism. My wife had a steak (again!) and she can be quite fussy especially with steak, once again, it was cooked to how she asked for, quantity and presentation was excellent. Rob and Renata must know they're doing well but they don't get complacent, they are always looking to make it better, be it from quizzes to live music and the little extras like air hockey table and table football for the kids. I'd like to wish Rob and Renata many successful years to come

My parents have raved about this place for so long we decided to go for tea one night and we discovered that this is really a lovely place to eat. The chef obviously cares about food, my steak was tender and delicious, the mixed grill and homemade pie equally impressive. Reasonably priced. If I lived in Durham I'd be here quite a lot!

5 star service 5 star food well worth a visit on any day great for family visits also . Very family friendly and amazing food. Also the live events are great the band manager does a good job

The landlord has turned the pub around from an also ran into one of the best pubs around here the Sunder dinners second to none as is the food all week with a good pint of beer you cant go wrong
