Friendly staff. Fantastic views if you’re lucky enough to get the window seats. Have eaten a few times here and always accommodating to add or change things to meals on menu. Had turkey sandwich with home made chips on last visit which was delicious. Dogs are allowed in an area of the pub with water bowls supplied.

Main course Scampi and chips with real peas and tartare sauce was very acceptable. Staff very attentive and helpful.

A beautiful pub to visit. With views over the valleys and hills, these can be seen when you are sitting eating your gorgeous meal sitting near t he windows. Food is very plentiful and very tasty and not too expensive. I go as often as I can. A+++++

Two visits in one week, came out for food on the Monday night and were both extremely keen to return, therefore came back the Tuesday night. Staff lovely and so polite, very quick service and was made to feel very welcome. Food was lovely and still had enough room for desserts, will definitely be returning

Brilliant food very reasonable we ate here when a group of us visited Durham and stayed at Ushaw house and gardens . The pub is a pleasant walk about 15 mins from accommodation highly recommend the Sunday Lunch. Will definitely be back.

Spent last weekend up in this lovely part of the world for the Beamish trial, myself and some friends ate here Saturday and Sunday evening. Absolutely superb food, lovely staff and great choice of beers. I just wish I lived close enough to eat here more often.

By a long way the best Mixed Grill I have ever had and I have been many places all over the world. The steak was not chewy, the pork was dead thick and juicy and the chips were perfect

First thing you will notice is the views, absolutely amazing. Definitely feels spacious inside with large viewing windows, ( worth booking a window seat for food). We had two stoties which was a new one on us and quantity and taste really good. Well worth a visit.

We happened on this pub justvafter moving in to the area, and have returned several times. The variety on the menu is a delight, leaving you spoiled for choice. The items are varied and creative, taking from many different cuisines, all with a variety of flavours on the plate. Service is friendly and prompt, and pricing reasonable for what would be gourmet offerings in many establishments. Cant recommend enough! The pan fried salmon with samphire and caper mash potato has to be tasted!

We were recommended by our B&B host and were very pleased - in fact we went back the second night! It is a proper pub with lovely views, very friendly staff and good food (be aware very large portions). Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Went for Sunday lunch, really enjoyed it, big portions all cooked well, beef, turkey pork lamb (priced extra). Loads of veg all seasonal. Definitely returning

I booked to come here with family for Sunday lunch time. First time coming here, but heard good reviews so I wanted to try it out. We arrived and got seated straight away. Friendly staff took our orders. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful when I had questions about diary free options. The food came quickly and it was hot and the portions absolutely massive. Totally delicious food. We could not eat everything but we asked to take it home and we were given a tray to take out leftovers home. Overall we were extremely impressed and I will be coming again.

We had a family gathering/meal for 10 people. The service was brilliant, as was the food. The mixed grill was absolutely fantastic 10/10.

We were celebrating a birthday meal here tonight- I had rump steak with all the trimmings & partner had the gammon with & all the trimmings -all beautifully cooked, hot & tasty! friendly service & spot on - didn't have to wait very long, nothing too much trouble 👍😋

Went with the in-laws recently for the first time and before we had even finished our meal we were already talking about when we should visit next. Food and staff were brilliant and the view out the window is amazing. I'm surprised I hadn't heard of this place sooner but glad I know it now being 15 mins away.

Well presented roast dinner for less than £14. Beef was tender, plenty of vegetables, modern interior. I would be happy to return.

Absolutely amazing food, beware if you get a starter you might struggle to finish main and defo no room for desert! Menu is so varied it’s nightmare trying to decide what to have - you just want to try everything! Eventually settled on a Hot Shot Parmo, absolutely amazing!

Been coming here for years but have noticed the increase in the prices.

The prices here have gone up to astronomical levels! For a burger and chips you fork out an arm and a leg. We used to go regularly then went a few weeks ago and were shocked! The burger was awful, left most of it. Standards have dropped and compared to other food pubs the prices are just crazy for what you get. I’d not be surprised if regulars cannot afford it anymore. It’s not that fantastic to even consider it now and then for a splurge. The staff are always friendly. They badly need to renovate the toilets too. They are battered and awful. Use sone of the money on nicer loos and bathroom. There is only 2 stalls in the ladies so not a lot to do up. Much better places in Durham region. Sadly this local favourite is now off our list.

Only popped in for drinks after a wintry walk nearby. Eleven of us took over the corner where the log burner is. Staff were very kind and made us feel very welcome. It looked to be a nice place, to have a meal. Unfortunately none of us were in a situation where we could have done so.

We were recommended this place for our wedding anniversary meal and we weren't disappointed. The choice of dishes on the menu is fantastic and a little different from other places in the surrounding area. The portions are generous and well presented. The service was speedy and efficient.

This place is pure class. Staff are really friendly and the service was faultless. The food is brilliant. I had ribs, blade of beef and chocolate fudge cake. The beef was insanely good as was the mash, veg and gravy.. All cooked to perfection. Shame we aren’t local as I’d never need to cook again.

A brilliant view makes the visit a must. A little bit out of town but there is a walking path or a short drive. The staff were excellent, plenty of parking good beer choices. My only complaint is I was served an old (I would call it stale and dry) reheated steak pie, not fresh and not oven heated as pastry should be. If I wasn’t so hungry I would have sent it back. Disappointing meal that the chef should have been on top of.

Menu had a good selection of food however the prices have went up quite a bit since the last time I was there (about a year ago). So will probably not go back. Used to go every other week and would spend half the amount I did today.

I had a meal here with family when staying nearby and it was delicious. The menu is huge and it was hard to choose, but everything we had was both tasty and excellent value for money, and the service was friendly and attentive. We hope to come back sometime!

This was our first visit at this pub, and enjoyed it very much. The meals were excellent, lovely and fresh , meals ordered were Mince and dumplings, and cornbeef pie, good sized portions and very tasty. Service was quick, and staff very friendly, will certainly return.

Stopped in for lunch while visiting Diggerland for the day. Definitely the best option in the area. Plenty of tables inside and out, nice view, good food. Worth the walk up the hill and stairs.

Good food with varied menu. Kids menu available. Sadly, this establishment carries no bar snacks and a very limited range in ales. Good for something to eat.....not so great for just a drink.

I've always liked this place, but it's not quite the reliable favourite that it used to be. Large portions but prices have increased significantly and the dishes I've had most recently are lacking taste and quality, especially compared to before. £3.40 for a small bottle of Fanta is a bit strong, also. Hopefully, it can regain it's mojo, as it's a good location with friendly and helpful staff.

What a surprise to find super quality inn, the food was excellent, service good and staff helpful and courteous. Didn't think places like this still existed. Ordered fish and chips (fish was larger than the plate), and the batter done to perfection !!! Then came the bill - another surprise - and a 10% off voucher from Ushaw historic chapels - made this an auto-visit next time we are this way

I called in on my own for a light lunch, on Monday. The staff were very nice and the service was good. The food was very disappointing. I ordered Philly steak strips in a wrap, with salad and chips. The wrap was barely cooked, the steak was tough. The salad looked limp and sad . I couldn't eat it. I ate half of the wrap, as I was hungry and needed to eat, but left the rest. The chips were good, but the rest was pretty awful. When asked if I enjoyed my meal, I told the waitress the truth. Not in a rude way. I said I'm not making a fuss, but feel you should know what I really thought about my food. She looked a bit shocked, but said thanks for telling us. I then said I wouldn't order it again. I wasn't looking for a reduction etc, but an apology was in order I thought. I never complain, but this was too much I felt I had to say something.

What a lovely place to visit! The staff were very polite and welcoming. The food was freshly prepared and was like 'heaven on a plate'. Even our dog was well catered for, she was served with a bowl of fresh water and treats near to where we were seated. Places as good as this are few and far between! We will definitely return when in the area next time.
