Called in on a trip Friday afternoon and it was very busy. However, the staff managed to fit us in. The staff were super friendly and very polite. Good food reasonably priced and an excellent pint of Wainrights. We would definitely recommend and visit when in the area.

Dropped in looking for a place to eat as we were staying close by. Sadly no food on Mondays but that didn't detract from the welcome, or the hospitality for both us and our dog. We'll be back to eat soon!

My wife and I had Sunday lunch here 18/8/24. The staff were so welcoming and very helpful when it came to our choice of drinks and food which are wide and varied. Plenty to pick from. Its just one of those places you want to spend time in and the locals are very friendly. The young chap who served in the restaurant had all the charm you would ever want your son to have (didn't catch his name) The food came and didnt disappoint, same for the service, second to none and nothing a problem. We will definitely be here again. Thank you 👌

We stayed here on 9/08/24 for 1 night as we were going to a wedding local to this place and we were not disappointed. We arrived to an old authentic bar serving real ales which had a rustic feel about it, we were told by the friendly barman to go to the restaurant up the stairs to check into our room. We were greeted by the most welcoming lady who genuinely looks happy to help us, we didn’t get her name but she was slim build and had dark hair I think she may have been the manager as she was on a laptop when we went in there, once we checked in we went into the most amazing beer garden for food and drinks where there were lots of tables and a sun trap which my other half loved. The food was amazing and fairly priced and yet again the lady couldn’t do enough for you which goes a long way. Our room overlooked the beer garden and was spotless and spacious with an amazing shower and comfy bed, our only concern was there was no full length mirror but nothing major. It would of been nice to of been able to have breakfast here a whole package as I’m sure it would be good going of their other food but sadly they don’t do breakfast but to be clear we never offered this when booking so we knew this before we went but I think they are missing a trick. We will defiantly return to this place keep up the good work.

One of the best locally owned pubs in the area. The beer garden is perfect for a warm day, and it's very warm and cozy inside. The food is amazing, with huge portions... I always leave the crown feeling stuffed!

Just finished a delicious soy glazed sirloin steak with Bombay chips, which is back on the menu after a long absence. The steak was cooked to perfection (rare, naturally!) and the soy glaze, along with pickled salad, added a depth of flavour, crunch and freshness thay was just perfect! Although the pub was busy they found us a table, service was exceptional and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Get there while the spring menu is on - you'll regret missing this!

An otherwise lovely bar let down by encouraging and facilitating right-wing meetings to take place within it's premises. It says it has a welcoming atmosphere but it seems that welcome does not extend to local minority groups based on the fact they hold right-wing meetings within the venue. I have been a customer for years, but shame on you for facilitating an attack on our neighbours.

I have been a customer here for years and the quality of the food, service, everything is outstanding. I am also a member of Reform UK and attended a meeting here in one of the function rooms recently. There are many customers of the C&CS who share political views of one kind or another. Some agree with mine, others do not. The fact that this has been used by another reviewer (Jeff McAdam) to undermine the reputation of the C&CS (AND REFORM UK) is absolutely disgusting. Reform UK are a legitimate and perfectly legal political party and have been totally misrepresented in Jeff McAdam's review. His inflammatory remarks about making this a venue unattractive "to local minority groups" are unsubstantiated and without basis. He also refers to this group somehow "facilitating an attack on our neighbours." Jeff McAdam is libelling a group of individuals and a political party here. What attack? On whom? If this is the case the matter should be reported to police but it is an outright lie. His attempt to 'cancel' this groups meeting venue is an attack against the freedom of lawful assembly, freedom of speech and freedom of thought. Please can google warn Jeff McAdam about being the purveyor of hate speech, and if he continues to make public comments that are misinformation and an attack on other people's freedoms, he may be sued by the Free Speech Union on my behalf. Having a different view to someone is perfectly fine - do not try to cancel others or bring into disrepute a business just because you have a different view though. The C&CS did not even know what the group were, let alone encouraged or facilitated the group meeting - none of which would have been any kind of bad act if they had. Trying to use a venue's good name in order to exert influence on them NOT to allow certain groups to meet there is an attack on democracy and it is Jeff McAdam who should be ashamed of himself.

My wife and I called in for a light lunch on Friday (11/4), and we were very pleased we did. We were made extremely welcome by the staff. We ordered our drinks first, which came very quickly, and then ordered our selection from light meal section. I ordered gammon, egg, and chips, the wife had cajun chicken salad, with homemade chilli sauce. We started our meal, and after the first bite, we were hooked. The food was that good, we didn't speak until the meal was done. The staff were asking if everything was OK, not too much, they left us to eat, but they had nothing to worry about. So, to sum up, if you like very tasty food, that will keep your wife quiet, try here, you will not be disappointed. Sinbad59

A very good dining experience in the covered garden. The food was excellent. However service is provided by a group of very young members of staff who seem to be unsupervised. They were slow, forgot things like cutlery and condiments and generally weren't very attentive are available. It took several minutes for additional cutlery to be brought to the table when clearly they were stored just inside the doorway. Groups of two or three of them chatting together in the upstairs bar when customers were waiting. It's not their fault, they are just young kids and probably don't know any better. However they need to be supervised by someone more mature and experienced who knows what they are doing. This won't stop us from returning as the food was spot-on and I would like to think that this was looked at by yourselves.

The B&B use this lounge for the breakfast part of the "Bed and Breakfast" package. Whist 100% cleaner than the Bed part; the quality and service was at best average. Full English comprised 2 small rashers of bacon, fried egg 1/2 a tomato and a sausage. Included was 1 slice of very lightly toasted bread and one cup of cheap brand coffee.

You can pop in here for a light bite, scone, piece of cake and a cuppa, a breakfast, a snack or a meal. There is a daily specials board with homemade steak and ale pie which I have had in the past (highly recommend), this time I had the lime and chilli chicken ciabatta with greek yoghurt served with homemade coleslaw, garnish and skin on chips, man what a plateful! This is hearty food indeed, I had hoped to leave room for a slither of cake but I couldn't!! Its definitely worth a visit

Visited today with a friend for afternoon tea, we had pre-ordered this and had to contact them at the last minute to say we were running late. This was not a problem and we were advised when we arrived that our food was ready but if we wanted to have a drink first they could just bring it out when ready. There was a selection of cheese savory, egg mayonnaise and ham finger sandwiches, crisps, fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and a selection of bite size cakes. The selection was lovely and just the right amount, the smaller cakes were ideal rather than a large slice. The setting was very homely and the service very good and at £9.95 each very good value for money. Would definitely recommend a visit.
