Causey Arch Inn in County Durham

Popped in today for coffee and scone and was served by Charlie. The service received by Charlie was friendly and professional and came across very welcoming, as my freind and I had never visited before . The scone with cream and jam were delicious and well presented and the free chocolate shortbread was an added bonus, a nice touch . Would highly recommend anyone to pop in the coffee also was delicious.

Just had a lovely Mother’s Day meal , food beautiful and even our Lab Bruno had a dinner!

Wouldn’t bother going here for food. No prawns, no fish, no Cumberland sausage. Which were all on the menu. No difference in the soup and broth both looked and tasted exactly the same. Corned beef pie was more like potato and vegetable pie could hardly see or taste any corned beef. Not good value for money. It’s not as if it was a busy night, we were the only four people in the restaurant.

Just had dinner at the fabulous Causey Arch Inn, lovely friendly cozy country inn, great atmosphere, with loads of parking. The Sunday dinners cooked by the absolutely wonderful Simone was the best we've ever had,, beautiful meats with fantastic portions of veg., gravy to die for. As its dog friendly Simone even made dinner for our Golden retriever Rannoch. Great staff all round and a great experience, we live 16 miles away but we'll be back most weekends. 5 star... Ps make that 5 michelin stars

had our sunday lunch here today. it was excellent my91 yr old man had a half portion which ample for her and our dog was also offered a puppy meal. we were all made very welcome and staff were lovely

First time visit to this lovely cosy country pub but certainly not our last We spoke to Ashley who was so friendly and made you feel very welcome and the staff were so accommodating nothing a trouble to them as for the food nothing but outstanding and the potion size was amazing 10/10 to the chef see you soon

Nothing better than home cooked food... I had breast of chicken hand made chips peas and peppercorn sauce, it was delicious 😋 👌. All too often when you eat out these days you'll find that the food is usually frozen or pre made. I was pleasantly surprised with this quality of food and very reasonable priced too. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.

To call this an Inn is a bit misleading - it is huge with separate tea rooms , lodges , rooms , function rooms and gazebos of various sizes whick can be booked for private use- the bars are well stocked and the service is quick and friendly- due to time constraints unable to eat but the food looked really good

Called in after visit to tanfield railway for Sunday lunch. We were told there was no children’s menu available and that my 3 year olds Sunday lunch would be the same price as an adults. I asked the waitress to double check that and she then came back with a different price. A very limited selection of soft drinks. Our drinks order came out wrong and the waitress let out a loud sigh while walking away to correct it. No mustard available to go with roast beef dinner, no toilet roll in the ladies toilets and mould on the wall in the men’s. Dirty looking dishcloth draped over radiator at the stairs entrance and cardboard boxes lying at the bottom of the stairs. Food portions were large but everything was pretty tasteless other than the stuffing and I wish I’d read the food hygiene rating before we called in.

I'm not going to put less than five stars for service because when we found out why our Christmas meal had taken so long to arrive we completely sympathised, and the food was faultless, plentiful and delicious. We had a great time chatting and the atmosphere in the pub was buzzing! Beautiful decorations. Well done to all the girls for pulling out the stops to get our food to us!

A warm welcome from friendly and efficient staff. No waiting seated straight away and meal arrived promptly. Plate a bit piled high but tasted good.

Went for a steak meal . And asked for dianne sauce, yeah we have they said. 20 mins later they came back to us and said we have no dianne sauce. Would we like to have the meal the way the cook has done it. Definitely not. It's a bit much trying to get customers by lying to them.

This little pub is amazing what it turns out the Black pudding fritters amazing The mixed grill the best I have ever had tasty succulent my friends had the chicken supreme was excellent

Visited today for lunch, fantastic place, great service, happy friendly staff. Just had a drink and a pasta, but the pasta was absolutely first class.

Wow! And not in a good way! If I could give zero stars I would! Went for Sunday lunch 18/09/22 2.45pm Food was cold, cooked but cold. Gwen had buttered chicken breast requested no gravy, I had trio of meats beef, lamb and pork. Meals turned up, Gwen's was covered in gravy sent it back and she waited 20 minutes for a replacement!! Staff ignored us to the point where I wanted to walk out ! Sadly not going back.

The food was excellent and the staff friendly and courteous The only downside was that the gents toilet floor was very wet and slippery and the passage between the two entry doors was very dark.the ladies in our party did not like having to go down two flights of stairs to the ladies toilet

Stayed in Beamish Park Hotel across the road 4th -8th August 2022 and after a day at Beamish Museum first day fancied a meal and drink How amazed we were with this place. Super friendly staff making all 4 of us really welcome.The meals were freshly prepared and extremely well presented.Cooked to perfection and served all together so we started and finished as a family.Even the local regular people made us all feel welcome and joined in conversation with us.This place was so good for the next three nights of our stay at the Beamish Park Hotel after a days outing we returned to the Causey Arch Inn to have evening meals and drinks, it was that good, the meals were outstanding and as always we were welcomed to the extent we were nearly classed as locals.I would urge anyone staying at the Beamish Hotel to walk over the road and try this place ,you will not be disappointed, but I believe impressed with everything from the atmosphere, the meals, drinks and local people who are genuine down to earth people who do not judge but welcome you as guests and friends.We are already planning our return and will give our custom to this place.Why go anywhere else when you have such an outstanding atmosphere staff, meals the whole 9 yards.Thank you to everyone for your welcome and service, we will see you again definitely.

Well what can I say we just got back from having a fantastic few days away aug 2022.we had booked in the Beamish park hotel but decided to go over and have a drink and from the moment we walked in the staff made us feel at home and was so friendly to us,even the locals.we will be back next year and we can't wait thankyou again xxx

Old school pub/restaurant. Huge Sunday roast portions. Probably a good idea to fast for a day before going ! The food is not fine dining but was tasty, staff were friendly if a bit rushed. Loads of parking in parking area, with a bit of a slope up to get inside. There is an outside area with a lovely view which I intend sitting in next time (we chose to sit inside). If I had to make a suggestion, there should be an option to get 1/2 portions thereby allowing maybe a starter and a pudding.

A heart meal, very tasty, large portion for those that eat big. Are dig friendly as a group bought two dogs in, but no water inside for the dogs.

First time visir, initally for drink only but extensive menu caught eye. Food was delicious Steak and Guiness Pie with double cooked chips and generous servings of seasonal veg and gravy. The mexican fajita was also generous and delicious. Happy hour from 4.30 to 7.30 with 10% off already resonable prices. Well worth a visit.

My partner and I came to Beamish for an extended weekend. We've been to Causey Arch twice and both times have been overwhelmed with how amazing the food is and how much you actually get for it's price. It's well priced and the staff are very welcoming and respectful. I cannot recommend this place enough.

The Causey Arch Inn is located in lovely countryside in Co. Durham close to the Grade 1 listed historic Causey Arch set in a beautiful deep wooded gorge. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the menus for lunch and dinner are extensive, and the food of excellent quality, with generous portions. We arranged a group lunch for 14 and were given a warm welcome and looked after very efficiently.

I was staying at the hotel opposite and decided to eat at Causey Arch Inn. Lovely friendly pub, staff very helpful. Varied menu at very reasonable prices. Portions were of a good size, slightly too much for me. Well presented dishes, deserts were reasonably priced and very well presented. I visited on a Wednesday evening, wasn't over busy just comfortable. Well worth a visit.

First time here in a long time, very friendly welcoming staff , fantastic choice of delicious food , huge portions, lovely atmosphere and beautiful flowers and hanging baskets, making it a great place to sit outside. Definitely recommend a visit.

We stayed at the Hotel opposite and didn’t fancy their venue. We were glad we walked across the road to the Causey Arch Inn. The menu was varied and friendly staff greeted up. The food was excellent and all freshly cooked. It was good value and really enjoyed our meal. Highly recommended.

Stayed opposite at the Beamish Park Hotel. Decided we would eat at the Inn as it offered better value and a varied menu. Great menu, pleasant staff and fine plentiful food. Well priced too. We would highly recommend the Causey Arch Inn.

Two of us just called in for a drink and a snack, but we got a warm welcome, and ended up getting a sharing plate with the drinks. Fishcakes, fish goujons, prawns, potato skins, dips, etc. It was great and more than enough for us both. 👍

This place is amazing. The staff are lovely and the food is fantastic. Such huge portions so definitely go when you are hungry. Can't rate this place highly enough. They even made my youngest something that wasn't on the menu. Thank you so much to everyone working there . Our last night here was made.

Been visiting lifelong customer. Love this warm friendly pub for drinks and food. Had late Sunday lunch yesterday service and food were excellent. I've had Sunday lunch here several times this year cannot fault it. Superb atmosphere and location an outstanding venue.

Yvonne and her staff are very friendly and welcoming. As are the locals. Really friendly atmosphere with excellent food, and the dogs loved it too. Real homemade chips which are great and if you are feeling a little peckish, try the mixed grill. You will not be disappointed. Every meal we had over our stay was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the pub.

We love this pub and it is our go to pub after visiting beamish, so dog friendly and we always manage to get a seat. Staff are lovely and always ask if dogs need water. The best bit is the food we have never had a bad meal here last time I got a beef sizzler thing loads of beef peppers and onions with chips and tortillas, hubby had a pie fab food around.

Very nice pub. Good atmosphere. Had a lovely meal from the specials board and ate it in front of the fire. Will definitely be back again soon. Visited again March 2022 and again lovely place to relax and enjoy great food and drinks!!

Super Sunday lunch which was excellent value and no issues getting seated when other places were busy. Good was great but veg was a bit overdone.giant Yorkshire puds were great and loads of gravy meat was nice and tender too. Would recommend coming here

First time visit. Oh how I wish every pub was as welcoming. Ashley who looked after us introduced herself and that was a nice friendly touch. The food,which is what we were there for was excellent. My wife had the traditional mince and dumplings and I had the Mongolian sizzler both went down well. Our first visit but certainly not the last.

Recommended by our son. He didn't get it wrong. Its a gem. Very friendly staff Ashley and the Chef (didn't catch his name). Very nice touch Ashley introducing herself. Food lived up to the welcome. My wife had mince and dumpling and commented that the dumpling was almost as good as hers, praise indeed. I went for Mongolian sizzler that was on the specials board. Both dishes can be recommended. First visit but won't be last.

Love this place. Great staff and very friendly atmosphere. They've recently acquired a new chef who's cooking is brilliant. He is experimenting with some new meals and brought back the sizzler. Well done everyone (especially Yvonne with her lovely roaring fires).

1st visit for Sunday lunch but will be the last. There was a very warm welcome from staff which was nice but food was a big let down, we ordered 3 Sunday lunches 2 pork and 1 lamb, they looked nice but potatoes (which tasted powered) , meat, Turnip, Yorkies, gravy were all cold so we're returned to kitchen plates were cold so this did not help when re - served just Luke warm so just ate meat and Yorkies and roasties there was no sage & onion... Staff apologised when I went to pay but no offer of a discount or free dessert So not a pleasant experience at all.. Staff welcome and roaring fire earned its 3 stars...

What a wonderful little gem this place is. Just left and couldn’t wait to write my review! Open fire, nice decor, lovely and clean. We’ve been all over the world and have never come across a place where every single member off staff are not only welcoming but genuinely nice, chatty to customers and happy to be so. Shout out to Ashleigh- what a star! Said good evening and chatting to us before we even went inside! Laura and Lexi- plus the young man ( sorry I forgot your name) who were all fab! Service 5* Food 5* ambiance 5* Staff well what can I say- 100*. I would make this my local if we didn’t live over 2 hours away. Thank you all again for being so lovely- you made our weekend away! Place was crammed and wasn't anywhere to sit apart from outside for a well earned pint. Member of staff was having a meeting on food side, was quick to say move to other side found em abit smarmy won't be going again this was around 2 weeks ago

Terrable November 5th 2021 paid £60 for a table for 6 people but it was outside on a steep car park couldn't sit on seat for falling off waited 2 hours for food given in a pitza type box with cold beef burgers and hot dogs that were awful. Shocking the way people were treated bad food bad beer the John Smith's beer tasted horrible took it back . worst experience we have ever had mean while inside the pub was fairly empty. I would expect when you book and pay for a table it would be inside not on a bench in a car park never again

On a whistle stop visit with some friends we decided to drop in for a snack and a gossip. The menu was way too tempting to just have a snack. We were shown to our table by a very pleasant lady who brought our drinks and menus very quickly. Trying to decide on food that would come out quickly as we had limited time before an appointment. I decided on the pizza (which also had a gluten-free version) one friend had a pasta (also had great gluten free options) and the other risotto. This food was amazing not at all what I expected. The pizza was fresh and huge as was the pasta and the risotto. I ended up taking most of the pizza home with me and gave some to my son who doesn’t usually like pizza and he thoroughly enjoyed it too. It was a great catch-up with the girls and a lovely place to go

Lovely meal out last night. Excellent value for money with steak night offer. Tender juicy steaks cooked to perfection, great chips too! Service was so good, friendly personable staff, very attentive without being bothersome. Only down side,, we didn’t discover this place until our last night or we would have happily dined there every night! Highly recommended.

My son found this pub on Google as he wanted somewhere that was dog friendly for his puppy & to take us to as We were up visiting him from Manchester It was dark when we got there for 7pm but looked pretty from outside...

After a trip to beamish museum we came here for Sunday lunch and had the 2 course special, potato skins with garlic dip and beef Sunday lunch. Food was lovely we had our dogs with us so had to eat in the upstairs bar, attentive...

Unfortunately we were sat at a table in-between a large family gathering very noisy could barely hear what my wife was saying so had one course and left

First time at the causey since it being under new management, fantastic service and great delicious food! Brought my baby son out with us and it was nice that the staff talked to him too. 100% recommend and will be returning for more delicious scran 👍*the wife already started eating her steak before I could snap a picture, it's just that good*
