Superb pub and really great staff. We were let down by a restaurant booking for 12 people. Rang The Monument as close to home and they saved the evening. Superb food, very friendly staff. Really first class

Beautiful meal of enormous proportions, all freshly cooked and service was excellent. Mum & Dad live in CT5 (forgot to mention this and get our discount) but they will be spreading the word in the local bowls club. Highly recommend - you won’t be disappointed! Thank you. We’ve been before and never had anything but praise for this lovely, little gem.

Wow what can we say other than thank you for excellent service in the restaurant from the Monument Pub. The server recommended the lamb rump. We asked for new potatoes and other veg which was no problem at all. The food was amazing. Hubby said the best lamb dish ever and I had the the veggie Thai curry..delish. Well done to this lovely family run pub. It was brilliant. 5 stars to all the staff for being so attentive.

Probably the most bang average place I've been in a long while. Long wait for food. No Sunday roast. Food uninspiring. Service functional. Menu would have been considered up to date about 30 years ago Prices average also!

August, 2024 review I come here to eat sometimes. Some staff are more friendly than others, but all staff are polite. Food is usually good, and when there's issues they are quick to fix them. Portion sizes are good too. Can be hard to get a hold of someone as its a pub if dining in. Locals discount is a nice addition. Toilet room is good. Nice smelling soap, powerful hands dryer. Clean. Could do with larger windows without panes, but I guess it's a historic building so they're limited with what they can do. Can't fault the place. Would recommend.

I could not fault the food here. Make sure you check the specials because they were excellent. The service could have been a bit more attentive but it's a pub with a restaurant at the side so most people doing two jobs. The atmosphere was quiet in tbe restaurant and the pub area felt a bit cliquey with local regulars.

My wife and I attended this pub recently. We had travelled over from Ireland and found ourselves away from home at the same time as the All Ireland Gaelic Football final. We made contact with the staff at the pub and they assured us that it would be on for us. On arrival, the staff showed us to a private room where it was just My wife and I. It was amazing to get that kind of service. We watched the matched and ordered food. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. Very well priced drinks also. I have no faults to pick and will certainly be back again.

Had a mid-week meal here and sat in the garden as was a warm day. Food okay; not particularly good value (maybe we made poor choices), but the garden was a complete tip. Filthy chairs, children's playhouse literally falling to pieces (needs to be fixed or removed) rabbit in an uncleaned cage and dead plants in broken pots. Staff pleasant but you really need to pull your socks up and have a massive clear-up outside - would only take a few hours. Made me wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen. This pub has a long and vibrant history, so was sad to see it in its current state.

It's not the first time I have rated this great hostelry. A good mix of clientele, good staff, and the owner's quiz nights have a great following. Check if eating as the kitchen isn't open every day. Good local beers as well as some popular nationals. Open Mike nights, music nights, and lots of games to play. Piped music is just right, too.

Decent local (one of the few remaining in gentrified, London-centric Whitstable these days; brewer Shepherd Neme has hurled a wrecking ball through its pubs here, dismantling "the pub" to replace them with eateries and hotels to serve visitors). Football-orientated. Good menu. All in all, a very fine, normal pub.

The welcome was great from our table server, young blonde lady. The other staff behind the bar less interested. There were 12 of us dining which she took in her stride. The food was delicious and well presented. We all ordered different things which came out all together and hot. The steak looked and I'm told was really nice. I had the Lamb which was perfectly cooked and tasted great. Well worth a visit despite the barstaff being more interested in locals.

We were very much looking forward to our Sunday Lunch at The Monument. The experience however left us a little disappointed. When we first entered the pub the staff where chatting behind the bar and we were stood for some time before they acknowledge us and took as through to the table. A little thing but it is nice to be greeted on arrival. Once we’d been seated we waited some time before having a drinks order taken. But I am pleased to say once we had ordered the food and drinks followed very soon after. The lunch itself was well presented with reasonable portion sizes. I enjoyed my chicken and my partner also enjoyed his roast beef. Compliments to the chef! As we were using the 2-course Sunday Lunch offer we also picked our puddings. These again arrived in good time. And we greatly enjoyed our puddings until my partner had to spit out a piece of glass! that was in the custard. When our puddings were collected the server didn’t seems to know how to respond. We were duly promised the desserts would be taken off the bill however, when the bill was first presented this hadn’t happened, so again we had to mention the error. To their credit this was then kindly resolved. I would encourage the owner to consider further training the junior staff in more attentive service and dealing with complaints professionally. There where repeated giggles by the team as staff members made mistakes on other tables! It just made things very awkward. It might be worth keeping glass well away from the kitchen wherever possible. Experience is so important in hospitality nowadays. You have a friendly team just need a little guidance to achieve their full potential!

We reserved a table for dinner with family. Got drinks at the bar. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. There were bunnies and a play structure for the kids. Sadly, they were out of prawns that night. Nephew ordered the pulled pork nachos that had a lot of pork. He could have had it as a meal. It was not quite like a California Mexican nachos but it looked filling. I had the crab dip for an appetizer and the chicken Caesar salad for my main dish. They were generous with the chicken and the anchovies. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the two Catman pieces painted outside. I love his art and discovered him when we were here 3 years ago.

Just terrible. But lovely if you like to eat while surrounded by the smell of nearly dead dog. (It seems there’s some dogs adjacent to the dining areas) And if you like rocks claiming to be roast potatoes. And no beef because there’s none left, so it’s microwave chicken breast cut into dry miserable chunks. At least the cauliflower cheese helped to moisten it all up. Some cool floppy cabbage finished the depressing presentation, smoothly gliding around the plate on a sea of vinegary gravy. Skipped desert (not that we were asked), paid and beat a hasty retreat away from the “cheesy dog” aroma. Now I’m no chef, but this place Is selling food for a living, which makes it somewhat important that you actually know a thing about cooking. I suppose it’s just relying on the fact that most of the customers don’t know any better, or couldn’t find anywhere else half decent in the town.
