Had a wonderful lunch at The Oxenham. We have eaten here many times and keep coming back because we are never disappointed. The food was exceptional, very good value and the lovely Fran was very welcoming and could not have looked after us any better. I always have the steak because I cant get a better one anywhere else. We will return as soon as we can.

Our favourite watering hole and well worth the drive from Newquay for my wife's birthday lunch with family and friends. everything today was just perfect! The food, the ale, the ambience, the room and our hosts. You go a log way to find hospitality and quality like this!

My particular favourites were the Ribeye steak (perfectly 'blue' with a lovely sear on the outside and the Chicken & Prawn Laska with noodles fragrant with the aroma of lemongrass. Delicious!

My wife and I spent a pleasant week in South Zeal and had a few evening meals at the Monastery Restaurant. The hotel has a fascinating history which is matched by its atmosphere and ambiance. The staff are friendly and extremely welcoming. You must however be prepared for some banter and challenging conversation with the manager who is quite the pedant but an excellent host. The Devon Rib-Eye was as good a steak as we have ever eaten, perfectly cooked (rare), tender and juicy. On one evening I had the chicken and Prawn Laska which was equally superb. We thoroughly recommend the Oxenham Arms.

We had a super lunch. This restaurant is in The OXenham Arms Hotel. They have bar meals and a restaurant menu. Excellent. Its all fresh and home made, there were 6 of us and we loved it. Ask for a tour of the building or just wonder around it is unique and gorgeous.

We found this hotel-restaurant by chance because we were on that part of the A30 at lunchtime. What a treat! The food we had was outstanding. I had salmon atop crushed Cornish potato atop cabbage with lemon-butter sauce - might sound odd but it was fantastic, and I am attempting to replicate this at home. Service also very good and friendly. The building is very old and a former monastery - worth asking for the write-up of the history. We will certainly be visiting again next time we are schlepping down the A30.

We dined here with my elderly in-laws on our latest 'gardening' visit to Devon. My starter of soup was excellent; the fish & chips main was very tasty, as was my desert of summer pudding. Four real ales to choose from plus friendly service, so all in all a very pleasurable evening - especially as we were being treated to the meal.

I have visited a few times from Spreyton, but this was my first visit to the pub garden. Wonderful views of Dartmoor, large garden with a lovely glass of wine. Well worth a visit, the hotel/pub should advertise the lovely garden!

An interesting restaurant with a very old standing stone holding up the beams. Service was adequate. The wine list was excellent but the red wine arrived chilled. The food was basic pub grub with little imagination. We are not big eaters but some of the portions were quite small.

My teenage grandson and I stayed at Oxenham Arms and ate most of our meals here for 4 days and nights. Outstanding food combined with friendly service. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Am surprised to see this listed under this name, because it was serving under the name of The Oxenham Arms when we arrived. We had been heading towards another Pub/Restaurant but saw an advertising board and turned into South Zeal to check it out, The initial welcome was very warm, and as we entered we were told a little of the history of the building - we were shown into one of the 'new' rooms, dating to about 1350 - where we were wowed by the model ships and globes, reflecting the history of the one of the previous owners. The selection of food is not huge, but on the evidence of what we tried, the emphasis is on doing things well. I can recommend the Exeter Mussels, and others had the Steak Pie, the Sausages with Mash, and the Beer Battered Fish. All got the highest rating. Coffees followed and for 7 of us (6 adults, 1 child), the bill was less than £100.

Friendly service but the food itself wasn't the best. Stringy undercooked bacon, four tiny overcooked fried potatoes, far too many cheap beans,. The egg was nice and the sausage was ok. Expensive for
