Booked and paid through Expedia for 2 nights in June. After booking I needed to be in hospital early on the day after the 2nd night , so asked Expedia well with free cancellation period to cancel 2nd night . Expedia could not contact hotel as none of the phones on the website are answered. I also sent Moelwyn an email, this wasn't answered either. On arriving at hotel I can say that the people managing it Steve and Jo are lovely and the room itself was great. I informed Jo of the problems with Expedia and she said that I'd receive a refund after 21st June as thats when Expedia paid them. No refund came so I phoned the mobile no written on hotel door, got to speak to owner Tom, who said it'd be refunded on 21st July...no refund again. It's now 24th Aug and despite half a dozen phone calls I have not been refunded.

We stayed here overnight. It was a really great place to stay, clean, warm and comfortable. You can’t beat the location or the views. Joe is super helpful and couldn’t do anymore than she does for you even to the point of coming to the cafe where we were having breakfast with my straighteners that I had left in the room! Thanks for a lovely stay. We will be back! Laura and Patrick

Booked a winter special on the understanding that breakfast Wi-Fi would be included. On arrival was told there was no breakfast or Wi-Fi. The room was shabby, the carpet filthy and en-suite grubby. Not to mention no tv signal, flakey paint hanging from the ceiling, lining hanging from the curtain and a cracked bedside lamp shade. Such a shame this old well positioned hotel is in desperate need of renovation. We were bitterly disappointed. Although dog friendly there was no mention of any £10 charge for our dog. £150 for a 2 night stay was a rip off. Hence the one star. We will not be returning and would not recommend to family and fiends.

The menu looked ok for lunch and we had dined here one evening many years ago and the meal was excellent so we ventured forth. What a mistake that was. There was a musty smell on entering the building…should have been a warning to turn round! Menus were dirty, condiments were dirty and needed cleaning including the mayonnaise bottle which had ketchup on the lid. The adjacent window ledge had old tomato on it. I wanted to leave but hubby wouldn’t! I ordered a tuna panini . Panini was hot , tuna was dry but couldn’t use the mayo bottle as it had tomato sauce on it . ( I hate tomato sauce) Accompanying sale had a lot of brown edged lettuce leaves in it which I can’t abide so I left the salad untouched. Husband had a beef burger and chips. Beef burger was ok, chips a little over done. But he was happier with his meal. Service was ok, certainly not attentive or particularly courteous. We will not visit again.

We stayed at this B&B and in fairness this aspect of our visit was splendid. We had a room on the top floor which gave extensive views of the beach and shoreline in both directions with vistas of the mountains beyond. There was a friendly and cheerful welcome from our host and the room was clean and well stocked with toiletries and all the usual accoutrements. We hadn not booked an evening meal the first night as we were unsure of our travel times but asked if there was a table available on the Saturday and what time would be best. We were given a booking for 6pm which I assumed was due to a full schedule so we accepted despite it being earlier than our usual time of dining (but I was disappointed when other guests arrived and were offered 8 or 8:30). Our waiter (who seemed to be a barman, dishwasher and all round dogsbody was cheerful but very much in the style of Basil Fawlty, was forced to repeatedly return to our table (and others around us) to report that the dish we chose was unavailable or the kitchen had run out. Frankly, the prices on the menu and the fact this venue is presented as a "Restaurant wit Rooms" led me to believe that we would experience fine dining but this was far from the case. On finally selecting a main course that was available (and recommended by regular attendees) I would judge the lamb to be cooked well and very tender but the braised leek and other garnishes on the plate were cooked to destruction and the small dish of veggies (served on the side) were overdone - considerably on the mushy side of al dente! Breakfasts were included and the "Full English" was generous but uneventful. I would definitely recommend the B&B as a good value stay but sadly, will not be eating in the restaurant on our next visit.

We have walked past a lot and were not sure if it was a restaurant for the hotel or anyone. They now have boards up, so we called in with the dogs and sat on the outside decking, lovely view. A young lad served us, absolute credit to the restaurant, confident and good front of house, nothing was too much trouble, we had 2 all day breakfasts which were well cooked, and lovely and hot, offered a choice of eggs etc. It was nice to be offered unlimited tea and coffee. All in all we enjoyed our visit, if I was going to be picky, tables were a little tight and the coffee could do with being a bit stronger.

We were looking for a venue for a family gathering for twenty, we went to Moelwyn to see if they could accommodate us. The front of house, Amelia, could not have been more helpful, she said we could have the whole room to ourselves and the use of the bar. See sent us all the details, together with full menus, which catered for every taste. One of our party is a professional chef and was very complementary about the food, not only the taste but the way it was presented. We gave Tom, the chef a huge round of applause when he entered the room. Nothing was too much trouble, for Amelia and Tom, which made for a perfect night for everybody. We will be back soon to enjoy this restaurant again soon, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys good food, and great service

Had dinner here while staying in Criccieth. The restaurant is within the hotel but open to non-residents, as we were. It's a small restaurant so best to book, especially and peak times, and they do turn tables at busy times. It didn't start well when we arrived but there was no one to show us to a table. We stood in the doorway for around 5 minutes before anyone appeared. As to the meal, the food was very good, however the starter I had, chicken livers, was so filling, probably too big, it did somewhat spoil the main course as I was already quite full - perhaps I shouldn't have eaten it all? Both our main courses, lamb and pork belly were good. Overall we were very happy with both the flavour and quality of the food. The service was OK, generally good, although there were some quite long periods when no one was available in the restaurant, just one waitress was working although the small restaurant wasn't full during our visit.

After reading some positive reviews, my wife and I decided to pop in to The Moelwyn for lunch. The experience started badly with a greatly reduced lunch menu, with the best option being fish & chips; which is tough to get wrong. Unfortunately, rather than a nicely cooked fresh batters cod, what we ate looked and tasted like a Birdseye fish steak. I also ordered a Diet Coke, which was warm, so when added to ice led to a flat drink. Finally, my wife asked for a soya milk cappuccino, which they couldn’t accommodate. The only positive in the experience was the service, which was fast and courteous. Perhaps, dinner would be better, but lunch should be avoided.

I can honestly say, I have never experienced such a fantastic customer experience. I was dining with my friend and our daughter's ranging from 13 - 20 years. The menu had a great selection and they were happy to accommodate fussy teenagers. Amelia is bubbly, extremely friendly and even went the extra mile to offer us a lift back to our caravan so I could have an extra glass of wine..... While the sauces were tasty, the mussels were overcooked and tiny. The fries were frozen chunky chips. This is a notoriously easy meal to get right. We left without dessert. Disappointingly, I have to disagree with recent reviews about this restaurant. Our experience (and we only ate there once) was that the service was very slow, and not especially friendly either. Portion-control was very inconsistent too with (supposedly) identical dishes varying significantly in quantity. To conclude our unhappy meal here, we chose the cheeseboard for two people. Five (small) pieces of cheese and a meagre selection of biscuits at a very considerable price was a disgrace. As always, I mentioned our feelings to the waitress who seemed bemused that anyone would dare say anything adverse. I never make such comments lightly or without foundation. My own experience here means I would not return.

We are regulars on the Lleyn however, we very rarely travel from our base on the northern side to eat in an evening, even though Criccieth is 25 minutes away. We went over with friends to see the castle and booked an early(6pm) meal in the Moelwyn. Firstly the service was excellent, all staff were attentive but, not in your face. The food was excellent, starters, mains and puddings were all fresh and well presented and good portion sizes, all topped off with an excellent uninterrupted view across Cardigan Bay.By the time we had finished our desserts the restaurant was full so I would recommend booking. An excellent dining experience and also excellent value, we will certainly be back.

We ate here in August 2017 after a recommendation from our hotel. We were not disappointed the service and food were really good. Staff were really pleasant and accommodating. We sat on the lovely terrace for pre dinner drinks and after dinner drinks which was very pleasant. The waitress came out to let us know when our meal, was about to be served. Overall a good experience and will return when we visit Criccieth again. Only reason I have not given it 5 is that our table was a little cramped with not much room, but then again they were very busy, which is always a good sign.

We have had morning drinks here twice. But THREE times in the last six months we have been there when the boards outside have clearly shown it to be open, coffee from 11.00 and lunches from 12.30, actual coffee and lunch times advertising it to be open..........only to find it closed. They are trying hard and the quality on offer is good. They have a lovely outside terrace with an enticing view, but to be successful they MUST show when they are open and when they are closed, because after these three experiences we won't be going again.

Three of us stayed here for three nights over a weekend. We stayed in rooms 5 and 6.Our rooms were clean, the beds comfortable and we slept well, without any noise from outside the restaurant and B and B. The breakfasts were excellent. The owner and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The Moelwyn is directly opposite the Criccieth Beach and our rooms had views of the spectacular sea and mountains beyond although our room 6 had a window that was above eye level. This is not a flash accommodation option but there's not one thing wrong with it and it provides incredible value for money. I recommend it most highly.

My daughter and young granddaughter were staying in the area with me for a short break. We went to see the castle and decided to stop at the Moelwyn for a quick lunch.....best decision as food was a pure delight and the service was second to none. My 3 year old granddaughter had her own sandwiches which wasn't frowned upon and we ordered some ice cream for her....it was amazing and presented so well with a strawberry sauce in a separate container and sprinkles too....she was thrilled..!! The staff (1 guy) was the nicest friendliest man we'd met who also introduced us to his baby daughter....lovely experience and top class food...we will be back.

We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and did not expect very much but WOW, was I wrong ! The staff here are fantastic and very attentive and also very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was sooooooooooooo good and a delight to eat. Fish and chips have never been presented and cooked so well. Crab linguini fantastic, wine list, Great. But the special desert which was a Chocolate Moulexe ( I would travel miles for) please, please put this on the menu "full time". We booked again for the Wednesday evening but was unable to keep the booking due to being in A&E but we did go back on Thursday for an evening meal and guess what, it was even better. Moules, great, balsamic reduction (served with bread) worth a mention. Cannot wait to go back.Just a few comments for owners:The way you present the menu is similar to very low grade sea side café establishments and (I think) this cheapens the appearance.Just make sure the waiting staff are aware when special deserts are not availableThese are meant to be helpful and not destructive in any way. We loved you all.

What an absolute delight - from the moment we entered to time we left - we were looked after like royalty. All the staff were pleasant and polite with the manager, Amelia, confident and attentative at the helm. After pre meal drinks we were led through to the smartly decorated dining area and were treated to a wonderful 3 course dining experience. Well presented, wholesome, tasty and good value for money. Nice choice of wines......and then........no port left to accompany the cheeseboard!!!!!....disaster loomed large.......but just in the nick of time the cavalry arrived......the ever helpfull Amelia jumped into her car parked outside and screeched off into the night.......only to return minutes later duly stocked with the missing port swiftly seconded from the local wine suppliers down the road........BRAVO!......where else would you get service and dedication to customer satisfaction than this. Only in Britain - and more specifically......Wales. Well done Wales and well done the Moelwyn - you're a credit to your business......you should be proud of yourselves.

Excellent selection of food both traditional fair and an array of seafood. Muscles from the near by Menai Straits were superb with lovely sauce. All demolished. My wife and I both selected Sea Base for main course that was well cooked and presented well with a pleasant but simple range of freshly cooked vegetables. Declined a desert to preserve my svelt like figure but it took some will power. Two coffees finished off a perfect meal. Service was prompt and attentive without being overbearing. Hope to return soon, a must every time we're in town. First class.

What a fantastic evening. We went 3 days after Christmas and only called that morning for a reservation. Not only could they accommodate us but they were happy to have us. The welcome we got when we arrived was like nipping in to your mates house for dinner and by the end of the evening we'd met their baby daughter and their dog. The food was ace, service was as good as you could hope to get and it was even great value for money. Can't recommend this place highly enough. My in laws are even talking about coming back to stay .....praise indeed I assure you. Thanks for having us.

Booked here last minute for a Sunday lunch with our extended family & had a lovely meal. Food was great & reasonably priced & the roast beef was excellently cooked. Gut crumble afterwards was also lovely but custard a little runny if I was being picky. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. They served with a good sense of humour too. Would go back.

Awful experience. We arrived around 2 pm, and we asked what the soup was. We were told it was Parsnip and immediately ordered. The member of staff went to the kitchen to ask something and then came out to say they are no longer serving food. We found this odd given that she had just confirmed the soup with the kitchen, and the cafe is open until 4 pm. Fair enough if we were trying to order at 3.45pm, but this was at 2pm. We ordered coffees and welsh cakes, which took 20 minutes to come (cafe was empty, save for ourselves). The rude member of staff then slammed them on the table, didn't even take the items off the tray, and walked off. Never have I had such an awful customer service experience. Complete letdown to what is a lovely area.

A most welcoming local pub with an excellent chef who happily adapted starters into a main for me - veggie! Although menu catered for everyone. Mine hosts were so cheerful & hardworking - many could take a leaf out of their books! The place was absolutely buzzing with people of all ages - locals & holidaymakers having the time of their lives singing along to the live musician of the evening who sang everything from Beatles/John Denver to modern day...talented chap! We will definitely be back - next time we may stay if not during the summer months, perhaps for an Autumn/Spring walking holiday!

Just passed by doing some walking and asked if we could leave our car at the parking. The kindness of the reception was overwhelming. Need to come back. In addition to that the walk that ended at the campsite was beautiful.
