The Modern Indian Cuisine in Lincoln

Food is ok, drinks incredibly expensive. 1 small cobra, 1 large cobra, 3 blackcurrant cordial = £19. And we had 2 rounds Decent enough restaurant, but really felt they took a liberty with that price.

Food was hot tasty good value for money. Will absolutely order from here again.

Great food. We went early, so pretty empty, hence low atmosphere rating, but we had a lovely meal. Will definitely return.

Food was pretty bland, sauce watery and tasteless. It was disappointing as thought it was worth trying with such positive reviews. Food was lukewarm when it arrived so again disappointing.

Fantastic meal, one of the best we've had through Just Eat.

Asked for chicken tikka style chicken and just got plain chicken. Spinach tasted off and tainted potatoes so had to leave them. Everything just seemed to have an odd tang. Sadly won’t be ordering again.

I usually avoid writing bad reviews and simply never return, but this meal was so spectacularly awful that it deserves a moment in the spotlight. As a die-hard Indian cuisine fan, I can honestly say this was the culinary equivalent of a car crash. First, the missing pilau rice and poppadoms set the tone for the evening. Then came the chicken tikka main dishes, which tasted like someone had boiled the chicken in a vegetable broth straight out of a hospital cafeteria. Forget the clay oven and traditional spices – I think they seasoned it with sheer apathy. The "curry sauce" was a tasteless vegetable soup that made me question my life choices. The garlic naan was as pale as a vampire at the beach, and the onion bhaji looked like it had been run over by a tricycle – flat, tasteless, and woefully undercooked. No crispy, spicy goodness in sight. The only saving grace? A meager handful of spicy chips, which barely made a dent in our hunger but did manage to lighten our wallets by £30. This restaurant seriously needs to up its game if it wants to stay open. We won't be back, and neither should you unless you enjoy culinary train wrecks.

This place is not what it was. Decor and seating looks tired and worn and our food was decidedly ordinary. I understand chicken is often pre-cooked, but it is unacceptable to be presenting meat that is dry and tough as it was on this occasion. I used to love this place, but I doubt that I will go again.

First of all, the food was amazing. Wow!! Well done team Modern Tandoori, it was fab. Unfortunately though, you sent a vegetable biryani and not a chicken one which is what we paid for - so I spoke to Just Eat who were awful!! No offer of refund for the difference in price or anything. So, my review is based purely on that shocking service. Paid for something we didn’t get and Just Eat don’t care at all. Hey ho - please order from these guys though everyone as the food we did get was fab…

Delicious hot food, great delivery time!

Love this place, always hot and tastes fresh, not greasy and salty. Spicy chips in the bag are 👌 only thing I noticed is the curries weren’t as spicy as previous but we still enjoyed them :)

First time ordering from here & won't be ordering again. I thought it would be a safe bet with it being a restaurant! We ordered a bhuna & a rogan josh. Both curries looked and tasted exactly the same. Watery & tasteless! The bhuna particularly had no taste at alland went straight in the bin. Spicy chips were greasy & soggy & the garlic naan had no flavour to.it. So disappointed. Avoid avoid, avoid!

Best Indian in town, authentic taste and they look after their regulars, 100% recommend :)

The food is not that good ,nothing impressive about it Maybe other will like I didn’t. The soop was good the rice wasn’t What I didn’t like is i asked to set by the window and he didn’t let me ,i don’t know why he insisted to get me inside and it was nothing to see . We are a curry club. We eat curry every month and have done it for 24 years. We have been going to the Modern for several years now. The reason is, because we love the food, we love the service and love the staff.

We were a walk in on Friday early evening. Only people in the place. When we left it was really busy. Really polite waiters who seemed really apologetic to disturb us to take our order. The food was great. Hot temperature wise and hot spicy too. The chicken tikka I had in my dish was a bit chewy in parts but on the whole, a good meal. Will definitely be back. Our only gripe is that we could not leave a tip. In today's cashless society we usually round the amount we pay up so we leave a tip. For some unfathomable reason, although our server had to key in the amount into the card reader, he told us he could not key in a higher amount! Price wise, very reasonable.

Came in tonight for my girlfriends birthday with her and her family and fair to say I was not disappointed. The food was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. I had the garlic chilli chicken and it was by far the best Indian meal I've had. Myself and my girlfriend will definitely be coming back at some point

Absolutely banging as always, arrived fast, hot, fresh, flavoursome, plenty of spice and no grease like all the other places in Lincoln. Pickle tray is the best we’ve had, spicy chips in a bag are absolutely spot on 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Food was average. Service was ok. Decor was poor with worn out seats and the room was cold. You’d be better off eating at home and saving the money.

Bland , definitely not what we ordered. Eventually I got through to the "Owner", and he informed me that " I've been in this business for 30 years". Which was his excuse for undercooked food. Good luck if you choose the modern over every other decent Indian takeaway in Lincoln.

We didn't pay a huge amount for our take away but just a bit disappointed by the amount of chicken in both the korma and the Rogan Josht. Far more liquid content than ever. Korma lacking in taste. Smaller rice portions too. Bit disappointing but still acceptable.

We ordered through just eat.... awful! Tikka masala was the worst and most bland I've ever eaten, korma may aswell of been a coconut yoghurt, naan undercooked and doughy, poppadoms stale ans not crisp....for the very little I ate last night I have had horrendous stomach cramps and gastro issues through the night .... Will never order from here again.

Great food and superb service... we only called here by chance, but it's definitely on the list to go back to when we visit Lincoln in future! Highly recommended.

Awful food... stale poppadoms, cold and undercooked peshawari naan... runny cold main dishes..worst tikka masala I've ever had and Korma like a coconut yoghurt.... tried phoning the restaurant, constantly engaged.. probably with people about to be as disappointed as we are.

Meals were delivered on time and hot. One minor (very minor) criticism , on a personal level a little more sauce would have been nice, otherwise a perfect meal. Thank you.

The go to Indian in Lincoln. After trying most Indian m and being disappointed we found the modern tandoori. Won’t be going anywhere else again, spicy pickle tray and popadoms are amazing and then the curries are always authentic and tasty warm and delicious. 5 stars as always.

Got a delivery from modern tandoori on and it arrived well over an hour late. We had to wait outside for 25 mins in the cold as the driver couldn’t find where we live which is in a really obvious location. The food arrived and we didn’t receive what we paid for. We ordered a chicken tikka masala and it turned up as plain chicken (definitely not tikka) in a bland tasteless sauce which was riddled with water. Please don’t waste your money here, I wanted a refund but they are refusing.

Food on the whole was great, chicken was tender in the curry. Chicken Pakora's were different to other indian/tandoori's we've had and didn't enjoy them. Also specifically ordered Mango Chutney for our poppadom's but we didn't receive it so unfortunately they went uneaten Will probably try again

Really nice food, good value, they know what they are doing. Had a Shisora lamb dish, it’s very spicy and a lovely gravy - recommended if you like spicy. Garlic Nan was fresh, they must have a decent tandoor. I’ll be back for sure.

Great food, great spice, good friendly service. We were in Lincoln for the weekend and took a chance on this restaurant. If you fancy a decent curry this is certainly the place.

On time, hot and tasty. Lost a star as the curries were quite watery for our liking. Would order again, but not yet jumping to the top of our list in Lincoln! 👍

It's a very friendly and calm place with locals eating. Personally I found the chicken to be tough and not soft like it should be. We both suffered from acid later which suggests not the best quality ingredients. The food presentation was good. The staff did walk up and down the middle of the restaurant quite a lot and took your plate just as you finished so it felt a bit like the next customer...rather than just let you take your time. We are still finding our feet in a new area so maybe we will be more lucky with food next time.

Really cold food which was disappointing.

My partner and I had a meal here on the evening of 23/11/23. The food and service were excellent. We both thought the curries were a little spicier than the same curry would be elsewhere, but it wasn't an issue. We would visit again and recommend to others.

Visited Lincoln for a 2 day break and looked this restaurant up on Tripadvisor. Wasn't disappointed with the food or service although place could do with a refurb. Both our meals were very tasty (tandoori chicken and chicken bhuna). Manager and waiters very attentive and would definitely revisit when in the area.

Food was lovely! For a first time try! The Bombay Aloo was my favourite part for sure. Will be ordering again soon

When do you give a restaurant 5 stars? Does that mean it cannot be bettered? I give this one 5 stars for value for money. Very good meal for humble money. Seems to be the locals favourite. We had pappadums and chutneys, chicken madras, garlic naan, bombay aloo, tarkha daal and mushroom pilau. All excellent. Nothing not to like.

All the popadoms were broken in bits and there was a piece of fat in the rice

We won 2 free meals here after they generously donated this as a raffle prize for a local kid's charity, for a race night at The Imp and Angel. They did not skimp on the food despite it being freebie. I had a Shashlik Lamb dish and my wife had chicken pasanda. Both were amazing. My lamb was tender and delicious. Modern have earned us as future costumers. We will definitely go again soon.

We got here a bit early and were the only customers in the restaurant... I think we struck gold as the food was of excellent quality and was virtually coked only for us and was a treat. We went for a Bhuna lamb and a Balti mix . The meat was all nice and tender but the sauces were "da scarpetta" ( sicilian way of claening up your plate with bread - naan in this case) . I recommend this place without any hesitation and will come back if ever in Lincoln again. Come here early and enjoy a good meal.

Fabulous take out food. Ordered Set meals. The food was excellent, well presented with onion salad and yogurt sauces complimentary, hot and tasted delicious. Took longer than expected for delivery less than 2 miles away..over half a hour after Just eat said it was on its way. Therefore the meal was cold. And not as good a Biryani as I have had from here before. Lamb was nice and tender, but the Rice had a strange oily taste. Tasted old to be honest. I did not enjoy it at all.

Worst worst worst Ever food I tried in UK. This type of Bangladeshi restaurant cheating British n all Asian people by selling foods in Indian name. Please don't waste your money and time there. I tried Garlic chili rice, biryani n some veg all was no taste at all even though no salt also. Please never ever go there , try in Everest if want to try Indian food it's bit ok not expect high quality just ok. I am completely unhappy with food n service

Food was very delicious, especially the peshawari Naan. However I was a bit disappointed with the small amount of vegetables in my vegetarian korma. Half a small potato and a few peas and what I think we're carrots. Mostly sauce which was so creamy and lovely so such a shame the veggies aren't a bit more substantial.

Ordered a Madras from here, sauce hot and flavourful. Chicken nice and tender, rice soft and popadoms crisp. Visited other Indian takeaways in Lincoln and was disappointed in them. This is the best I’ve found and highly recommend. Delivery time is prompt and not waiting for ages.

After living in Lincoln for many years, this was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I regret not doing so much sooner. From start to finish, my experience was fabulous. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive throughout. The restaurant was clean and nicely presented. The food was hot, fresh, colourful and very tasty. Excellent value.
