The Modern Indian Cuisine in Lincoln

The food is not that good ,nothing impressive about it Maybe other will like I didn’t. The soop was good the rice wasn’t What I didn’t like is i asked to set by the window and he didn’t let me ,i don’t know why he insisted to get me inside and it was nothing to see . It’s soo close u don’t feel comfortable

We are a curry club. We eat curry every month and have done it for 24 years. We have been going to the Modern for several years now. The reason is, because we love the food, we love the service and love the staff.

We were a walk in on Friday early evening. Only people in the place. When we left it was really busy. Really polite waiters who seemed really apologetic to disturb us to take our order. The food was great. Hot temperature wise and hot spicy too. The chicken tikka I had in my dish was a bit chewy in parts but on the whole, a good meal. Will definitely be back. Our only gripe is that we could not leave a tip. In today's cashless society we usually round the amount we pay up so we leave a tip. For some unfathomable reason, although our server had to key in the amount into the card reader, he told us he could not key in a higher amount! Price wise, very reasonable.

Came in tonight for my girlfriends birthday with her and her family and fair to say I was not disappointed. The food was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. I had the garlic chilli chicken and it was by far the best Indian meal I've had. Myself and my girlfriend will definitely be coming back at some point

Food was average. Service was ok. Decor was poor with worn out seats and the room was cold. You’d be better off eating at home and saving the money.

Bland , definitely not what we ordered. Eventually I got through to the "Owner", and he informed me that " I've been in this business for 30 years". Which was his excuse for undercooked food. Good luck if you choose the modern over every other decent Indian takeaway in Lincoln.

We didn't pay a huge amount for our take away but just a bit disappointed by the amount of chicken in both the korma and the Rogan Josht. Far more liquid content than ever. Korma lacking in taste. Smaller rice portions too. Bit disappointing but still acceptable.

We ordered through just eat.... awful! Tikka masala was the worst and most bland I've ever eaten, korma may aswell of been a coconut yoghurt, naan undercooked and doughy, poppadoms stale ans not crisp....for the very little I ate last night I have had horrendous stomach cramps and gastro issues through the night .... Will never order from here again.

Great food and superb service... we only called here by chance, but it's definitely on the list to go back to when we visit Lincoln in future! Highly recommended.

Got a delivery from modern tandoori on and it arrived well over an hour late. We had to wait outside for 25 mins in the cold as the driver couldn’t find where we live which is in a really obvious location. The food arrived and we didn’t receive what we paid for. We ordered a chicken tikka masala and it turned up as plain chicken (definitely not tikka) in a bland tasteless sauce which was riddled with water. Please don’t waste your money here, I wanted a refund but they are refusing.

Really nice food, good value, they know what they are doing. Had a Shisora lamb dish, it’s very spicy and a lovely gravy - recommended if you like spicy. Garlic Nan was fresh, they must have a decent tandoor. I’ll be back for sure.

Great food, great spice, good friendly service. We were in Lincoln for the weekend and took a chance on this restaurant. If you fancy a decent curry this is certainly the place.

It's a very friendly and calm place with locals eating. Personally I found the chicken to be tough and not soft like it should be. We both suffered from acid later which suggests not the best quality ingredients. The food presentation was good. The staff did walk up and down the middle of the restaurant quite a lot and took your plate just as you finished so it felt a bit like the next customer...rather than just let you take your time. We are still finding our feet in a new area so maybe we will be more lucky with food next time.

My partner and I had a meal here on the evening of 23/11/23. The food and service were excellent. We both thought the curries were a little spicier than the same curry would be elsewhere, but it wasn't an issue. We would visit again and recommend to others.

Visited Lincoln for a 2 day break and looked this restaurant up on Tripadvisor. Wasn't disappointed with the food or service although place could do with a refurb. Both our meals were very tasty (tandoori chicken and chicken bhuna). Manager and waiters very attentive and would definitely revisit when in the area.

When do you give a restaurant 5 stars? Does that mean it cannot be bettered? I give this one 5 stars for value for money. Very good meal for humble money. Seems to be the locals favourite. We had pappadums and chutneys, chicken madras, garlic naan, bombay aloo, tarkha daal and mushroom pilau. All excellent. Nothing not to like.

We won 2 free meals here after they generously donated this as a raffle prize for a local kid's charity, for a race night at The Imp and Angel. They did not skimp on the food despite it being freebie. I had a Shashlik Lamb dish and my wife had chicken pasanda. Both were amazing. My lamb was tender and delicious. Modern have earned us as future costumers. We will definitely go again soon.

We got here a bit early and were the only customers in the restaurant... I think we struck gold as the food was of excellent quality and was virtually coked only for us and was a treat. We went for a Bhuna lamb and a Balti mix . The meat was all nice and tender but the sauces were "da scarpetta" ( sicilian way of claening up your plate with bread - naan in this case) . I recommend this place without any hesitation and will come back if ever in Lincoln again. Come here early and enjoy a good meal.

Fabulous take out food. Ordered Set meals. The food was excellent, well presented with onion salad and yogurt sauces complimentary, hot and tasted delicious. Delivery was fast ( earlier than we expected) I’ve tried lots of takeaways in Lincoln some good some not as good. This one I think is the best. Will definitely use again

Worst worst worst Ever food I tried in UK. This type of Bangladeshi restaurant cheating British n all Asian people by selling foods in Indian name. Please don't waste your money and time there. I tried Garlic chili rice, biryani n some veg all was no taste at all even though no salt also. Please never ever go there , try in Everest if want to try Indian food it's bit ok not expect high quality just ok. I am completely unhappy with food n service

Ordered a Madras from here, sauce hot and flavourful. Chicken nice and tender, rice soft and popadoms crisp. Visited other Indian takeaways in Lincoln and was disappointed in them. This is the best I’ve found and highly recommend. Delivery time is prompt and not waiting for ages.

After living in Lincoln for many years, this was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I regret not doing so much sooner. From start to finish, my experience was fabulous. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive throughout. The restaurant was clean and nicely presented. The food was hot, fresh, colourful and very tasty. Excellent value. I will return, very soon.

Meal for 4, starters and mains all very tasty, very reasonably priced, the Chicken Shashlik curry sauce was the best I’d had, definitely worth a visit, very friendly attentive not rushed service

Premises was open with customers arrived at 9 to be welcomed in then told at the entrance that they we’re closed. Okay didn’t get our customer but … don’t do that put last orders time down to stop disappointment please .

Went for a Xmas curry with 6 lads and was not disappointed. We did have the place to ourselves, which wouldn’t have been our choice, but in hindsight it made the evening better, especially as the beer started flowing. We all had two courses with sides and everything arrived efficiently and warm. I went for a Chicken Dansak, Mushroom Rice & Sag Pioneer and all of it was very tasty and plentiful. There was no complaints from anyone in the party about theirs to note either. The staff were brilliant, even indulging in our tipsy behaviour with banter. They catered to all our requests and cannot be faulted. The price was a little on the expensive side I felt for what we got, but equally the quality of the night maybe balanced it out. I definitely wouldn’t have any reservations about attending this place again in the future anyway.

A bit of a walk from the town centre but we are glad we did it. Food excellent good portion sizes and very tasty. Service was brilliant , we walked in hadn't booked given a table immediately and drinks ordered.Came back to order food and happy to adjust the taste / spice to our liking 👍

Excellent meal, starters and mainzs were superb, friendly staff and reasonably priced.

We dropped in here on a Sunday evening having not booked. We received a very friendly welcome and felt comfortable immediately. We both like lightly spiced biryani and we were delighted by both the presentation and the wonderful flavours. I had the Chicken Chaat as a starter and it was the best starter I have ever had in an Indian restaurant. It was a very pleasant experience and we left feeling very happy and if we were not 200 miles away, we would be in on a regular basis.

Another excellent meal at The Modern Tandoori, this time as part of a large group celebrating a hen party. The order was all correct and everyone enjoyed their meals. Portions are generous. Friendly service. Still my first choice of Indian resteraunt in Lincoln.

Good options for a subcontinent dine out

This restaurant has been great up to the last 2 meals I've had, I've only ever used this for takeaways and it used to always be spot on until recently, the chicken hasn't been good at all, very tough and tasted strange compared to other places I've ordered chicken meals from. My last 2 takeaways have both tasted bad, I think it maybe time for a change or restaurant. Update, the latest order was again really poor, so it's definitely time to remove this restaurant from my phone.

Popped in on spec for tea having completed a Uni drop off. Welcoming host who offered advice on dishes and explained they were a family run business for over 25 years. Nice decor and clean toilets. Reasonably price and varied menu. Tasty food, the rice was the one of the best I have eaten. A pity it’s in the quieter part of the High Street but worth the walk from the hustle and bustle of the city centre

Food was absolutely fantastic. All on time and great staff.

The food was nice but quite expensive. We went for someone's birthday and even though we sang it (8 people) none of the staff said anything or offered the person who was having a birthday a free desert or drink. They didn't even wish them a happy birthday and there was only a few others in there so very quiet.

Really happy we found this place on our day out in Lincoln. The place is very nice, the staff were really polite and friendly. Starters of popadoms and pickles were the best we’ve tried. The mains of lamb vindaloo, one of the chef’s chicken and lamb specials, garlic rice and peshwari naan were also in our top rated Indian restaurant meals. Definitely worth a visit. 5/5 stars from us. Nice establishment, great service. Three of us, two out of three enjoyed their meals, third person did too but only noticed that the prawns we're a bit chewy.

Been many years since I was here but nothing has changed the food was excellent staff the same and company even better would definitely recommend a visit here and would put money on it you will return. 5 star

Came in with my partner for a date night. Nazz the owner was very welcoming and very friendly, spoke politely and took our order. We sat down within a booth and was very comfortable and felt very relaxed. It is a very relaxed chilled vibe you grt from the restaurant and the staff. We started with the sweet chilli chicken starter which was out of this world cooled beautifully extremely tasty with a lovely kick to it. I had lamb tikka rezala with mushroom and a kerman naan every part of the meal was exceptional the lam was soft and melted in your mouth. Which I expected it to be chewy being lamb. This was a very pleasant surprise and I was not in the slightest disappointed with any part of the meal or the service. My partner had garlic chicken and boileded rice with a garlic naan. She left extremely satisfied and she took the remainder of her meal back home with us as Nazz was kind enough to put it a container for her. Overall we had an Amazing experience and left extremely satisfied with the service and the price. Highly recommend to anybody unsure about where to go for a decent meal! We are now going to make this our regular restaurant and will be back again soon.

As a family owned restaurant for more than three decades, I can understand why this restaurant exists until this day. The Modern offers balanced and high quality Indian cuisines to the inhabitants of Lincoln as well as to international visitors and guests. I have been to The Modern a couple of times already and my family and I are amazed by the consistency of the overall quality of the meals. Well done and thank you for offering high quality and balanced Indian cuisine to the city of Lincoln.

Another beautiful meal at the Modern Tandoori. Always a warm welcome with friendly staff who go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with your meal. Even help deciding if you're not sure what to order. Nice relaxing evening in the restaurant with family and given time and space to enjoy the meal. Tasty curry that was perfectly spiced and full of flavour. We'll definitely be going back.

I had a delivery last night threw Uber eats it’s the worst curry I’ve ever had it was cold dry wouldn’t feed an animal on it was so disgusting put the in. The bin I rang and complain never ever use them again didn’t

Tonight we had a family meal in the restaurant and the food was truly exceptional, the waiter who served us was amazingly friendly and treated us like we were royalty. This is the first time we have ever been to this establishment and I can guarantee it won't be the last. I congratulate the chef of fine food and thank everybody for their efforts. Food arrived on time and driver was very friendly. The food was unfortunately very disappointing, only just about warm and naan breads were tough. The lamb bhuna, masala, onion bhajis and saag aloo were flavourless. Perfectly edible but disappointingly bland. Would probably not order from here again.

Food was the blandest Indian food I have ever eaten. Not great quality meat used in the food at all. Will definitely not be going back.

We have been a customer of The Modern for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. Both as a takeaway and to eat in. I have tried others and none compare. I am particularly fussy and they accommodate my wishes no problem.

Great Indian. Real chunky bits of meat and the best taste ever. Slight wait but definitely worth the wait. Would definitely recommend and will be ordering again soon

Spent over £40 on home delivery meal for the family. Advised 1 hour, actually took 1hr 45 minutes! Called twice to chase meal. Offered discount on NEXT order. Meal was not hot on arrival. Although tasty, a very disappointing experience which I will not repeat.

Came to Lincoln for work and found this Indian on line. It is one of tbe best Indian food i have had. I would recomend this Indian to you all. Well done and keep It up 👍

In my opinion, the Modern Tandoori Restaurant is the best Indian restaurant in Lincoln. Lovely food, very clean and really friendly atmosphere. 10 out of 10 from me.

My boyfriend and I went here on a date night. We were so impressed by the delicious food and great service that we have recommended this restaurant to all our friends and family. The food was really reasonably priced, generous portions and the staff were very attentive and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely and calm. We didn’t feel under pressure to eat and leave and weren’t rushed between courses. We will definitely be back!

Really tasty food with loads of choice! We went here with our newborn daughter and they were so wonderful, they made sure our table has space for her pushchair and even offered to change the Aircon in case she was too hot/cold

Worst lamb dish ever, lamb could have been used as a competition grade squash ball it was that tough
