The Modern Chinese Takeaway in Derby

Ordered twice in the last few days, food came quickly, tasted great and the price was good.

Spent 30 pound had a rice that look like it could feed a kid very rude staff not coming back food was horrible

Fantastic value for money not tight on meats been loads of times since tried Highly Recommended defo use again and again thanks :)

The worst meal I’ve ever had, a total waste of £36.00 I will never use again

Please do not eat here, 23rd December we had food from here and the next day woke up with awful food poisoning, it’s the 28th and I’m still not fully back to normal. Ruined my whole Christmas cause I had no appetite. Even had a trip to the walk in centre because of it. We used to love the food here but now it’s absolutely awful, so we will be looking for somewhere else to order from.

Top service all round Great food and there always happy when taking the order over the phone they do an excellent very fast delivery service too. My favourite is the fillet steak Cantonese style (always tender) with salt & chilli chips and egg fried rice highly recommended !

Instant food bug day after food.

I have used Modern for a few years and have always recommended it but recently they have become obsessed with salt (or MSG). I recently had beef in black bean sauce and literally flushed it with boiling water before eating. I will try them again in a month or two to check on their progress.

Food arrived chips not cooked properly or re heated soggy chowmein when I asked for dry chicken rubbery the worst Chinese we’ve had by far!! Wouldn’t even give 1 if I had the chance Won’t be using again

I am one happy customer from this place, had food from there few times already, food is tasty and the staff is polite.

I've been going to this chinese since I was a kid and it's gone down hill big time..ever since new owners took over the beef is always pink ,chicken balls taste funny even the charmain doesn't taste how it used to if your wanting a decent Chinese then I recommend oakwood cheif💯

Just got back from holiday so modern Chinese takeaway was nearest and easiest to go to. Not pulling the meal down but it was ok. Have had other Chinese with more taste and flavour.

Used this place and recommend for years,felt like something not right last few times food mediocre and the new guy on the phone needs a slap ,that to one side just had two dishes of basically msg and salt disgusting, complained by phone and can't understand English all of a sudden! The end si thi.

Really sad about my latest delivery , used to be the best chinese and the food still good but really no prawn crackers with an order over £30 isn't OK ...only to be told it depends on what you order I'f you get prawn crackers ...trying another next time 😬

4 tiny pieces of chicken in the chicken chow mein ring 2 complain 2 be told i am lying curry sauce looked like water diarrhoea. Never eat there again

Will never recommend this Chinese it's really gone downhill overpriced and food is well below average

This was the best Chinese to order from for years however these days you can only live round the corner to order from them, looking at a 2 hour wait at the weekend, extra £6 to order online and I've just been informed that you only get prawn crackers with your meal if you fit the profile 😂😂😂

Used to be good last year, all gone down hill now, chips are just over fried and bitty, can't cook Steak any more, everything deep fried too death. Sauces are good but most prob cash & carry just add water...... Well done on your new deep fryers, but you maybe lossing all your customers.

This used to be the best food in derby with Michael but it’s now the WORST!! Save your money don’t order from here SHOCKING FOOD also WORST in derby now they even treat you like Dirt and they don’t want you in there the bloke on the phone and at the desk is the biggest W****** going please shut down bring back michael he was the best cook and knows how to treat his Customers ! Or change the name so people don’t think it’s same company when it really isn’t

Food was disgusting. Wouldn't even feed my dog with the chinken out the chinken curry it was cold there was no taste i wouldn't eat from there again it should be called Manky modern

Guy on the phone is a absolute 🔔 🔚, rude and needs to be put in his place. Food came stone cold duck was burnt and his reply to this was that’s how the duck always is so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Never again the guy was rude the first time we ordered but gave him a second chance thinking maybe he was having a bad day.. but no he’s just a 🔔 🔚

Been going to the modern for 20 years. The owners are different but the food is the same now as it's always been. Never had a bad meal.

Been using this takeaway for years, and the food as always been excellent. On occasions I've used their delivery service, usually delivered earlier that stated. I have no hesitation in recommending this takeaway and plenty of parking outside off the road.

Order noodles got them cold yet they were still delicious 10/10

Didnt even get to order our food the guy on the phone taking the order was so blunt and rude we hung up and ordered elsewhere which was lovely. First impressions go a long way

Never had a bad or even mediocre meal from here. Big portions. Real big juicy chunks of chicken breast, not the thinly sliced stuff you get elsewhere

The rice was stone cold had to reheat it didn't even offer to bring me a new one out poor but did offer to replace it when I reorder the chicken is all ways good and hot

I have just ordered beef fried rice and a beef curry which came with chips they sent me free poppadoms always brilliant food. thank you guys. and they even went to the shop to get me a pint of milk to save me going out

This used to be Brilliant food but will now go elsewhere since its been took over. Gone down hill. Mushrooms old. Omlettes dry. Chow mein was more broccoli than anything else. Curry is way too spicy.

Standard Chinese, decent enough.

If I could give less I would. Ordered beer in black pepper,fried rice x2 chips x2 and extra black pepper sauce and bean spouts. Came to £15...cold,white tasteless chips. Sauce has no colour and hardly any flavour bean sprout were so greasey you could refry chips (maybe fresher than the ones we got!) Beef was chewy and dry. We got a small bag of prawn crakers (6) Free...they were stale too (thanks anyway) Never again. Save your money.

Food was shocking Took a steak back 2 years ago because it was to tough to eat . Had a meal tonight. Shocking was dry.

I have been a customer of the modern for about 15 years. Always excellent service & food it's test good I travel 15 miles round trip every week
