Stayed not far from the Mitre for a week and visited 3 times for lunch across that time. A super welcome from Andy and Barbara, who made us all feel very welcome. We had a variety of Panini's, all were excellent. Made a fuss of our 8 month old, too. highly recommended. If we're back in the area at any point, i wouldn't hesitate to visit again. All the best.Steve, Ruth and little legs.

On holiday and visited the local pub. Sadly a decision we will regret as will the Landlord losing revenue for the week for 10 people. Absolutely awful. Rude, abrupt welcome. Waitress was wonderful and is let down by her employer who demonstrated narcissism in refusing to accept lemonade was flat. Recommend he either gets out of the business or spends money on a customer service course. Shameful!!!

We had a meal here whilst staying at the nearby Newhouse Farm Cottages. Suitable Covid precautions had been put in place - a bell to ring when you arrived so you could be met at the door, hand sanitiser, only certain tables being used. The menu was still extensive with a good variety. We started with the trio of breaded cheeses which was lovely (mozarella, brie and camembert). I then had trout en croute with new potatoes and salad whilst my husband had Nepalese lamb curry, both of which were very tasty. I finished with a delicious cheesecake (passion fruit, lime and coconut from memory) and my husband had the cheeseboard which had a fantastic range of local cheeses. The young man serving us was very polite and helpful. I would say this is a mid-price range restaurant. A lovely touch was that when we asked to take home the cheese that my husband couldn't manage, this was put in a container with some extra crackers! As we had such a good experience, we ordered take-out lasagne the following evening which was also very nice.

We wanted a nice Sunday roast and certainly weren’t disappointed. The roast was one of the best I’ve had out and produced very quickly but obviously freshly made, and a delicious brioche and butter pudding that was out of this world. Not only that but with a 3 1/2 yr old and dairy and soya intolerant 1 1/2 yr old, they simply could not have been more accommodating for her even making her own special little pudding. Lovely spacious dining room as well, not crammed in as you are in some places and all of the staff and landlord were so friendly. We will be back (later this week!)

Travelled to the Witheridge area on a works Weekend away and turned up at the mitre on a Friday night with a large party,(20+ people ) the pub and staff could not have been any more accommodating. We enjoyed it so much some of us returned on Saturday night and again the barmaid Emma was a joy to interact with, she sat and chatted with us and couldn’t have been nicer or better company. When it came to closing time the heavens had opened and the landlord Andy was a star an volunteered unprompted to drop us back to our accommodation, which is above and beyond in my opinion.if you are staying the area this homely, friendly pub is a must.

Passing through the village we stopped here for a Drink and a Snack. The bar is very dark brown in decor and the first thing i encountered at the bar was a large sign telling me they have to buy the beer I will have to pay for tasters - really welcoming! Then a unsmiling lady behind the bar told me it was roast only for sunday lunch - fair enough I understand. The beer I had was something to do with the pubs cat I think but I was ignored when I asked - but it was nice. The worst thing about the pub was the background music - don't get me wrong I don't like the modern rubbish but this was like a dirge. It was like being in a funeral parlor. I would have given it two stars but my wife said the food looked good. We had our drinks and crisps and left.

We had lunch here today and came away promising ourselves that we would return! Tripadvisor came up trumps, recommending it as somewhere not too far from home, and we loved everything about The Mitre and its fantastic food. Plenty of choice - and those who had it said the hake was "to die for" - and sensibly sized portions. My only complaint was that the time of year was wrong for me to spend time in the delightful "snug" just off the bar...... roll on winter for that! I personnel found the bed a bit uncomfortable and I couldn't sleep on the pillows to hard for my taste but this is up to individuals, but I do find hotels etc do favor harder pillowsThe breakfast was as you expect full English, cereal etc. I would avoid the poached egg (more like steamed egg) if you like them soft because they don't come out like that, luckily my husband does like them so we swapped, scrabbled egg perfect.Good for one night

Dinner on a Saturday night and was excellent. Grilled fish was lovely, tasty delicious and worth it. The chocolate dessert was tasty. Overall, the meal was lovely. The waitress was helpful and knowledgeable. The cook/manager came out to see us and make sure all of us (10) were happy.

Me, my wife and daughter traveled the short distance from Tiverton to Witheridge to watch a local football match over the christmas period. Having arrived a little early we decided to have a drink at the local pub (the only one in Witheridge). It was a little cold outside and was nice to arrive and take our coats off and sit down in the local pub. We arrived at approx 2.25pm and spent a few minutes gazing at the surroundings as we hadn't been before. As I stood at the bar I was aware that people were seated in the residential area sited behind the bar. It was quite a wait and after 10 minutes a gentleman (maybee not) came out of the residential area and stood behind the bar. As I started to order my drinks I was rudely interrupted to be told that the bar stops serving at 2.30pm. It was 2.33pm but I had been waiting to be served for the best part of 10 mins and he knew it!! What an ****. Do not visit this horrible pub or publican, I hope he reads this and reply's. Ignorant ****

Just had a wonderful meal at this inn. Not tried it before but since our pub shut we've been looking for another place to eat and this was recommended by friends of ours. Would recommend to anyone.

A large party of us descended on the mitre for Sunday lunch today. Great selections of drinks, great Sunday roast with being about to have both meats and desserts were to die for especially the sticky toffee pud! Waitress staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The only thing which let the place down was the unhelpful barman, when it came to splitting the bill he wouldn't let us pay individually or in couples and was rather unhelpful in helping us work out what we all owed. Was a disappointing end to a great visit.

Our small adult family group ate dinner at The Mitre Inn while staying in the Witheridge area. The meal was delicious, well prepared, and of generous amounts. In fact, I deliberately ordered a 'small appetite' serving size meal, and found it to be the perfect size to allow for a delicious dessert to follow. The prices were very reasonable. The young man waiter was friendly and courteous and very attentive. I would certainly return.

Andy and his Staff, have successfully built a strong foundation for this Pub/Restaurant, by offering great food, great drink, and great hospitality. Food is served Piping Hot and with a smile, nothing is to much trouble for the waiting staff, and there knowledge of the produce served is excellent.

We have visited this pub on several occasions. The landlord is very welcoming and food is always excellent. Much thought has gone into the interesting and varied menu but there is the usual pub grub too. Something for everyone, meat, fish, vegetarian, Sunday roasts. Puddings very good too. The caramelised ginger and banana pancakes are to die for.

Our group consisted of 13 people, they were very friendly and very quick service.A nice selection of ales and wines, but when it came to dinner they excelled there selves. Not only were starters and dinners served well on time the staff were friendly and did not make us feel uncomfortable at all.Dinner was amazing, of all 10 adult meals no one could complain. Everything was cooked perfectly and with as much flavour as you could imagine. I went for the Steak Medallions in Port and Stilton Sauce, Being the most expensive thing on the menu I was a bit doubtful but let me tell you it was one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten, outstanding!!!If you are in the area well worth a visit!

This is a very nice village inn with a nice menu that has a few different dishes on it to the normal fare. I had the hake on a bed of sweet chilli vegetables which was very nice indeed. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There are two main eating areas, the bar and in the restaurant. The restaurant is nice and well finished. I can definitely recommend eating here.

We had amazing food at the Mitre. Best steak medalions around and the scallop starter was cooked to perfection. Baby and buggy friendly too. Roughly £25 a head for 2 courses. Lovely meal!
