We had roast lunch here in the summer it was so good we came back to stay for 1 night with 6 friends and had a lovely 5 mile walk around the area. Everyone said the evening meal was superb above and beyond most restaurants we finished the evening in the bar with cocktails. Breakfast was equally as good . The rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable . This pub has a lot of character and everyone works hard to keep it running well. You won't be disappointed if you eat or stay overnight.

What a gem of a find - Honestly as a large family group there is nothing negative we could say about The Mitre Inn, Witheridge, Tiverton - Food, Staff and Venue are fantastic. We all chose the 3 course Sunday lunch which offered a great variety throughout. Delicious home cooked food and the staff and chef were so accommodating with our special requests. Not only that, they made our children so welcome, we would definitely re-visit when in the area and would not hesitate to recommend this great place.

Charming village pub with a local vibe. We popped in for lunch on our way from Ilfracombe to Exeter. Food was nice but the service was 10/10. There is a separate vegan menu and some gluten free options. Owner and staff were super friendly and helpful - they clearly understood which items were vegan/gf. Our dog had her own bowl of sausage with sides and gravy (not vegan), and we said hello to the two beautiful resident golden retrievers. Overall a lovely visit - would recommend.

Viewed across all 'departments', this was the best of 11 accommodations we encountered walking the 2 Moors Way in terms of overall experience and value. The decor and layout of the bar and dining rooms give the Inn a cosy and welcoming feel (we can only imagine how fab it must look at Christmas!), our room was stylishly decorated with a good en suite and a comfy bed, and the food and menu choices both at dinner and breakfast were of a high standard. Above all the owners, and the bar, dining and cleaning staff were all delightful and helpful.

This was our favourite pub/ restaurant we visited. The atmosphere here was great and the food terrific! On our first visit I tried the ribeye steak in the restaurant and that was wonderful. The second time it was curry night and we ate in the bar. I had red Thai beef curry that was great too. Farmer Toms ice creams for desert are a must. This is also a dog friendly pub so all boxes were ticked.

The Bar is welcoming and snug with a nice local feel. The cider on tap was crisp and tasted really nice. The restaurant has an eclectic decor, but does not look out of place. The main menu looks like any other menu in any pub. The special board is small, but looked inviting. Special board is definitely the way to go For starters, we tried the Mac and cheese bites and the local asparagus with a to die for blue cheese sauce. Both of us had the Sirloin Steak with the trimmings. No dessert was partaken as it would have ruined the rest of food. All the food was top quality, cooked to perfection and well presented. Service was good. PLEASE VISIT THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

Booked a table late afternoon for that evening, and was no trouble. We ate in the bar as we had our dog with us. Very cosy bar area, with a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very friendly. Good selection of drinks, and a decent menu. I had the burger - excellent. Nice touch was to bring some scraps of fresh lamb for our dog. Owner is very much a dog lover. A small mistake with the bill was quickly rectified, with good humour. An excellent evening out, with very comfortable surroundings. Would recommend.

We both stayed and ate here. An elegant old building just off the main square, it was nicely busy on a Sunday evening and we had an excellent roast dinner. They have a wide range of local gins as well as beer. Our room was clean and attractive; the loo and bathroom was across the landing and would have been shared, but the other room was empty. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and the staff were really friendly.

The Mitre Inn is a warm and inviting pub in the style of a traditional English pub. Our waiter Seb was friendly and super helpful. Our two toy dogs were treated to lots of attention and settled down nicely while our family ate delicious pub fayre. The bean chilli stood was tasty and when mentioned my lactose intolerance, Seb ensured I got non dairy cheese and mayo. There is all the usual carnivore food plus a vegan menu! The blueberry cobbler was yummy! My whole family really enjoyed their meals and we highly recommend the pub.

We have visited here often and have always had great food however our last visit very disappointing. Ordered Beef Vindaloo . We were told it would be hot which we know of course ( it came from the waiter as a kind of warning) which was slightly humiliating!!!!! The Vindaloo was extremely dry, so rice and curry almost inedible and no heat or even spicy at all!! We are wondering if you've changed your chef! Also ice-cream not fresh, Tasted like it had thawed and been re frozen several times. Christmas meal out with family!!!!!!

We had a meal here whilst staying at the nearby Newhouse Farm Cottages. Suitable Covid precautions had been put in place - a bell to ring when you arrived so you could be met at the door, hand sanitiser, only certain tables being used. The menu was still extensive with a good variety. We started with the trio of breaded cheeses which was lovely (mozarella, brie and camembert). I then had trout en croute with new potatoes and salad whilst my husband had Nepalese lamb curry, both of which were very tasty. I finished with a delicious cheesecake (passion fruit, lime and coconut from memory) and my husband had the cheeseboard which had a fantastic range of local cheeses. The young man serving us was very polite and helpful. I would say this is a mid-price range restaurant. A lovely touch was that when we asked to take home the cheese that my husband couldn't manage, this was put in a container with some extra crackers! As we had such a good experience, we ordered take-out lasagne the following evening which was also very nice.

The bar is very dark brown in decor and the first thing i encountered at the bar was a large sign telling me they have to buy the beer I will have to pay for tasters - really welcoming! Then a unsmiling lady behind the bar told me it was roast only for sunday lunch - fair enough I understand. The beer I had was something to do with the pubs cat I think but I was ignored when I asked - but it was nice. The worst thing about the pub was the background music - don't get me wrong I don't like the modern rubbish but this was like a dirge. It was like being in a funeral parlor. I would have given it two stars but my wife said the food looked good. We had our drinks and crisps and left.

Absoulty terrible. Popped in as me and my partner are not from the area but are staying near the pub, so thought we would spend our Friday evening in there. The worst decision we made all holiday. If you want to get served by an unfriendly stuck up grumpy landlord, pay silly prices for drinks, sit in something that looks like Queen Victoria decorated it and be around some of the most unhappiest staff that i have ever seen. Then this is the place for you!! Lets hope the other pub in the village gets re-opened soon.

We enjoyed a lovely family meal here. Serving staff were friendly and helpful. One of our party didn't get the meal he ordered, but apart from that it was a good expierience.

we were visiting Devon and i wanted my kids to have a real pub food experience. The Mitre Inn did not disapoint. The food and service was great, even if we came in just before kitchen closing time.

We had lunch here today and came away promising ourselves that we would return! Tripadvisor came up trumps, recommending it as somewhere not too far from home, and we loved everything about The Mitre and its fantastic food. Plenty of choice - and those who had it said the hake was "to die for" - and sensibly sized portions. My only complaint was that the time of year was wrong for me to spend time in the delightful "snug" just off the bar...... roll on winter for that! Thank you all concerned for a memorable meal - and lashings of ginger beer!

The food is plentiful, fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Eat in the pub area as the atmosphere is better, the official ‘dining room’ was empty. Only 2 real ales on tap when we went. Have read other reviews that weren’t too positive but overall we had a good night.

We took twelve close friends for a special celebration as this is one of our favourite places to eat. Every meal was cooked to perfection (I don’t know how Barbara does it for so many) and served in the lovely dining room. The staff who served us worked very hard and we were not hurried. A lot of thought goes into the dishes which offer a good choice and fish/vegetarian lovers are well catered for too. This is much more than pub grub.u

We went for a family meal after just moving to a cottage locally. I am Gluten and Dairy intolerant and am used to a very limited menu and usually no desert. Well! What a fantastic choice of food and to top it off my favourite pudding (bread and butter) with dairy free ice-cream! I was in heaven! Can't afford to eat out very often as our kids eat full size meals but this has certainly become my favourite place to eat! My husband and his mum went without me the other night as I was out so now considering divorce lol

Was looking for a bite to eat And decided to try here. It was quite empty and lacked a bit of atmosphere. The menu was limited and I opted for the quiche with home-made coleslaw. It was okay and fairly priced but I don’t consider one teaspoonful of coleslaw to be worthy of calling it a side salad. Not sure if I will come back as it was very limited on the plus side I could hear myself speak to my colleague as it was so empty.

Stumbled across the cafe when we arrived in Ilfracombe and needed coffee. Quaint and characterful and clearly has it's regular customers. Coffee was good and hot but the homemade Eccles cake was amazing! The other treats looked good too. Coming across The Naked Cake cafe was the best thing about Ilfracombe which was otherwise, tatty and very down at heel.

Great food and drinks, staff lovely and nothing too much trouble. Had hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and cake. All good quality and served with a smile
