Owner is odd and acts like your an unwanted guest in their home, feels more like a membership club than a local. Has weird opening times. Has weird rules around “pre approved” children in after 9 o’clock. Used to be a good pub years ago now only half of it opens. It could be like the Derry, the car park is huge for it. Saturday nights are dead in there. Shame really.

After attending my brother's funeral we decided to visit for a farewell drink. What a mistake that was, there would have been about 25-30 of us who wanted to respectfully remember his passing. We hadn't been in there two minutes when a woman appeared whom I assumed was the licencee and all we got was we don't want parties unless pre-booked. She completely ignored us when we tried to tell her why we had visited but all she whinged on about was the fact she only had one person working in the kitchen, nobody had either mentioned or even wanted food. There was only a handful of people in there so you would have thought she would have welcomed the custom. Never again.

My pint of Robinson’s Trooper was absolutely top notch. Such a shame that the Sunday Roast was so far from good. Improvements could be made so simply, providing the table with a gravy boat rather than just ladling it on in the kitchen; use some seasoning on the veg; and don’t use frozen roast potatoes. All in all I arrived with low expectations and left with them fulfilled.

Had Sunday lunch today, unfortunately we found it very disappointing. The vege was bland and tasteless and the pork was tough, the food was fairly cold too and as it did`nt all come out together had probably been left waiting to be served. The deserts ,however were lovely but were just sections of premade cake but again the custard was cold. Won`t be back, shame as it is local and used to be value for £.

The Mitre had just opened when we had our first date 60 years ago! Now surrounded by housing but then it was out in the country. Happy memories .......whilst the building and interior needs a new makeover the food and service could not be faulted. Good menu choice & we had excellent fish dishes with crispy chips well served. Such a shame that owners haven’t thought about updating as the location & catchment area must offer great opportunities.

First visit for food here. Saw the mixed reviews and wasn’t expecting anything special but I got a friendly service and decent pub food. I ordered half Parmesan off the £5 menu and my friend ordered lasagne. There’s two menus - smaller portions for £5 and then another menu with mains between £8-10. Standard pub food, burgers etc. But my Parmo was lovely with a large portion of chips and my friend enjoyed the lasagne with a large bowl of chips and garlic bread. Very nice, filled a hole and very reasonably priced. Defo go again!

Visited with family for Sunday lunch friends had refined it. Last time I was here was 30 years ago and to be honest it had not changed much very much in need of modernisation a revamp. Having said that the food wasn't that bad the meats were good apart from the beef which was chewy as beef can be s sometimes. Swede was undercooked gravy was amazing Yorkshire puds great too, so just out to be honest. Desserts were not homemade and a bit disappointing but overall an average lunch. We were visiting family in Stockton and decided to go here for lunch. There were eleven of us and we hadn't pre-booked. Several members of the family who had eaten here previously reported on it positively. We drove into the huge carpark to find only two other cars which didn't fill us with much confidence as it was a Sauturday and we thought it might be busy. Consequently there was no problem parking or securing a table, which was large enough to seat 11. The menu offered a good range of traditional dishes, something for everyone and the food was declicious, with good portion sizes. All the meals were served together so there was no waiting around. The service was excellent and friendly and the cost was very good value. I would recommend this pub.

Ummmh! Well we did enter en masse some 10 in total. The pub was not busy for 1.30pm. We struggled to find what to do, how to sit with so many. A young guy in black we assumed was staff who was happy if WE pulled together tables. Another person in black was called upon to advise how we got food which was not obvious. We went to the bar and ordered the carvery and drinks paying separately for 4 it came to £35 adult carvery and drinks, good value I think. We trundled up and to the back of the pub and found the servery which had 4 choices of meat, and as much veg as you could handle. Now my beef and gammon, was good. The veg carrots, cabbage and mushy peas were not appreciated around the table, too hard, under cooked and tough were comments heard. I found the gravy tasty and helped with my dinner and my oldest son who loves a carvery finished his plate. We cleared our own table, and a couple of puds were ordered for the kids fudge cake and ice cream which they enjoyed.Ok bottom line, we have been used to a national brand of carvery, this local Fayre was half the price and the meat was brilliant the veg well I could have done better, in fact my mother-in-law an ex dinner lady said she would have done better with the veg for a whole school. But you can't knock the price. We may go back.

I was advised to go to this place by my neighbour. They often have lunch midweek. I waited and went on a Saturday lunch. Other people have mentioned it being quiet. It was, but it wasn't. It is quite a big place, with people sat in different locations, including the beer garden. I liked the family that ran it, they were a family. It was nice not for it to feel like a large chain. I ordered the Stake and Ale Pie, it was huge. I liked that it really is home made, you could see where it had been sealed with a fork around the edge. Do we remember that? I don't eat chips often, but these were great, chunky chip, I think cut with an axe! Oh, the pie was great, you could really taste the ale. The 3 other family members had the Italian Chicken, they enjoyed it. Large portions, so much that we never had any dinner. Will we go back yes, do I recommend it yes. I drove from Yarm, so the big car park was important to me. Summing up friendly, value and good food. I do believe on Sunday they only do Sunday dinner.

They do smaller portions for senior citizens, which we like. There is usually a choice of 3 or 4 joints of meat and 4 vegetables and roast and mashed potatoes. The carrots are unpeeled and cut quite large, so it's possible to take the peel off them in one piece, not very appetising. The mashed potatoes are described as creamed, but they aren't. The Yorkshire puddings and stuffing are fine. There is a choice of 4 sauces to accompany the meat. Having said all this the meal is good value for money and the meat is well cooked.

For the first time in many years I went to the Mitre Pub and had a meal and drink during lunchtime. To my delight this pub has now secured two very committed tenants who were pleasant and very professional - think the Manager was called Chris and his wife was lovely too! The service was excellent and the food delicious and served beautifully. The price for my club style sandwich and coffee together was more than reasonable and I would recommend this to anyone in the Stockton On tees area. I learned during my visit that this pub has changed hands many times over the last few years yet Chris and his wife seem to be looking at this as a long term commitment. In time they have plans to upgrade the décor so I would say use this venue and help them make the Mitre back into the great pub I used to visit regularly as a 20 something year old!!! Ordered chicken and bacon pasta and that is what I got. There was no sauce at all. Went to order off desert menu and was told only could order off the board.Definitely will not come back

Extremely friendly and welcoming atmosphere with really nice food. Brilliant decoration and hygiene to top things off. We use this place for family meals on a regular basis and not once have we had any form of incident or issue. Highly recommend this place over others, especially for an evening meal.

Starting with the positives - very quiet even on a Saturday tea time, food arrived promptly and generous portion sizes. The children's chicken nuggets were made with real chicken and tasted better than expected. Unfortunately most of the adult food was not eaten even by our teenage sons who usually eat anything and everything. The mixed grill was greasy and tasteless, the parmo was burnt underneath, salad and chips were greasy and just generally very poor quality. We thought the desserts might have been better but the sticky toffee pudding was hard and more like fruit cake and the ice cream sundae was served in a glass used for drinking from and was bland and tasteless and the custard served with apple crumble was cold and tasted like a packet mix.

Main meals were ok. Plates weren't cleared by staff. Waited ages for desserts and the custard was cold. Paid for mains and desserts separately by card so was charged 50p each time used card. Pub in general was also cold and very dark. Probably won't go back

Went here with a friend. Small menu but nice selection. Both starter and main weren't up to much. Chicken burger was cold and seemed to have been sat around for a while before being served. Most likely won't be returning.

Had lunch there today and first impressions were it's very dark, had a curious odour, fairly empty and little atmosphere. Food was decidedly average, no steak pie available so we risked the chicken parmesans which were ok but pretty tasteless. My husband had an all day breakfast which was again very average and served without toast, fried bread or any kind of bread. It was £7.45 for the breakfast.Sticky toffee pudding was presented nicely however and was actually very nice. Young barman was pleasant and tried his best.Somehow we were just glad to leave and it didn't feel like a pleasant experience.

Recent visit was February 2014I have been to the Mitre a bit over the last few years as I live very close by.I used to be a Horse & Jockey fan until it became a childs playground and the food became very cheap quality. The Mitre has some good food.Unfortunately, we stopped by the Mitre late afternoon, ordered a drink and sat down to look at the menu.I was sat shivering, my partner equally was as bad.It was so cold that we never finished our drinks and headed all the way to the Talpore at the Tees Barrage!!!I don't know what's happened recently at the Mitre, but I wont be going there again!

A very poor meal that was going to be a celebration and turned into a flop. Very poor quality food that was really disappointing. They also had only one bottle of Tonic in the place so gin and tonic was out of the question as well (a pub with only one bottle of tonic, alarm bells should have been ringing then). So all in all it was our one and only visit to this place and will not use it again, as I said very poor indeed!

I first visited the mitre with family to take advantage of the "2 for £10" deal that they run during the week, we arrived to a spacious car par and a clean pub with helpful staff, they pointed out all the offers on drinks and the food took no time at all to be prepared, ample portion sizes and delicious food, will defiantly be visiting again!

Had a party booked for mother in laws 60th on 7th Feb. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us and the children. Mother in law tried a 'parmo' for the first time and absolutely loved it!! She's had another one since! Thankyou. Highly recommended!

I ate the parmo and chips here the 08/02/14. the chips tasted acrid like they were cooked in 6 month old oil and the parmo looked like a turkey escalope that had been run through a mangle. I ate half of it and left disapointed. Within 8 hours i had sickness and diarrhoea. In summary avoid this place like the plague

My partner and I fancied having a late tea to save us cooking and decided to visit here. It was easy to get to and had ample parking, nice a clean inside with a lovely ambience. We were served straight away and had no problems with waiting for food, the starters arrived nice and hot and the main meal followed 5 minutes after this which again was nice and hot. I complimented the waitress on the great service as she was very curteous and complimented the chef for the food we received. Everything was wonderful until later that night I had very painful stomach cramps and was doubled over in bed with much discomfort feeling sick. I awoke the next morning and had diahorrea however still managed to go to work as I thought the feeling might pass, I got sent home from work after projectile vomiting. Once I was home I felt nauseous and had a cold chill which I couldn't get warm then slept for hours not feeling hungry and only sipping water. I knew it must have been something I'd eaten so I rang my partner as we'd both had the same main meal "Chicken Parmesan" and he told me he had been sick that morning had felt terrible so this is the only meal we had ate together as we'd both had separate meals the previous night to visiting here. I awoke the next day (today) and felt fresh as a daisy and back to work feeling much better than the day after I'd ate that meal. Quite disappointing really as everything was great until then, I won't be visiting here again due to my bad experience, food poisioning is awful! :(

Service was extremely slow, it wasn’t very busy either, half the drinks were kept elsewhere! The noise level was unbearable, music on high volume, so customers had to shout and screech to make themselves heard, and no soft furnishings to deaden the sound. It was a relief to leave.
