I work opposite The Missing Bean, so go in maybe two or three times a week. The coffee is good (very strong!), food is fine, and the vibe is great. I'd really recommend. Except... for one member of staff, who has become a bit of a running joke with my colleagues. Most of the staff are lovely and friendly - I'm not a great chatter so I don't expect them to remember me, but whether or not they do, they are always smiley and helpful. Unfortunately this one person doesn't even look you in the eye, and is constantly scanning for someone more hip in the background. He makes the customer feel like the most boring person at a party. We joked that he might be faceblind, after I sat next to him on the bus all the way to work, followed him into the cafe to queue up, and then ordered from him without a blink of recognition, but I think he just doesn't look at people. Which is difficult if you're in customer service. All this would just be funny if it wasn't for the fact that he doesn't listen, either. I've had to correct my order with him multiple times, and this morning (I was in a hurry so took my order and ran) I asked for a small black Americano and a pain au raisin, and got a large Americano and a pain au chocolat. I've got colleagues who just don't go in now if they see he's on the counter, and looking through these reviews, I can see which people he served. It is pretty funny, tbh, but it's not great for business. Especially when last time I filled up my loyalty card, he gave me my free coffee, and then returned my card - so I can get another free coffee... Please, Missing Bean - have a word!

Coffee was ok staff not interested. Simple request to look at the drinks options for kids met with a wise crack. More emphasis on hospitality over posing would help.

This whole experience was so customer unfriendly. Five of us arrived for coffee and cake 45 minutes before closing time. But we were refused cake because 'it's been wrapped up' (in cling film in a cabinet where we queued to order). Total refusal to peel back the cling film... astonishing. Then, one of them came to our table to 'alert' us to the fact that they were 'closing soon' - actually in 20 minutes. It's not a good experience when the staff seem solely focussed on their own needs.

A morning and early afternoon place with good, loose-leaf tea in many varieties and some excellent baked goods on offer, The Missing Bean is a solid stop for your afternoon caffeine and some people watching, as much of their seating is at wooden tables on the street in a a prime tourist area.

I am Botley's leading intellectual, in here pontificating on most days - much to the advantage of the downtrodden folk of this area. The coffee is excellent and the staff lovely. In truth, I am the philosopher in residence (MA DPhil Oxon) educating hipsters and laptop jockeys on the error of their ways - on the numerous topics which they mistakenly think reading The Guardian makes one an expert. This is a free service, so take advantage!

Missing Bean in Botley is a fab place for a really good local coffee just on the outskirts of Oxford. Delicious pastries and cakes also add to the offering along with great, smiley service. You can also buy bread to take home and they even deliver their ground coffee if you’d like some (we would like to apologise to the guy on the bike who brings it as he has to pedal up Cumnor Hill! Sorry!) A regular spot for us. #indieoxford

Lovely looking coffee shop with fantastic looking pastries in the window but overall not as good as it looks. Being a fan of a mocha coffee that was my drink, served in a tiny glass and didnt taste of much. Cake was interesting, beetroot, chocolate and cherry, generous portion but a bit dry. Disappointing for me but is a popular place so maybe I just chose badly.

This place was fantastic when it first opened: superb coffee, delicious food, and vibrant vibe. Unfortunately, it has declined markedly on all fronts. Most importantly, the coffee is now ordinary at best: watery and pretty insipid. I'd rate Caffe Nero as superior now.Foodwise, the sandwiches are still fine, but on my last visit I tried the 'avocado toast'. This turned out to be a couple of slices of rock-hard sourdough with half an unripe and unsliced avocado on the side. It was so hard it actually slid off my plate when I was trying to cut into it.As for atmosphere, the cafe is now dominated by laptops. I don't mind this in the right locale, but given this is a small and busy place, it's just plain rude to hog a table for hours alone in front of a screen. I'd advise the management to put up signs banning/reducing laptop use.I used to be a frequent customer, but over the last year my visits have declined to about once per month. Now I think I just won't bother anymore.

I admit that I'm a bit of a coffee snob and will hunt out the best haunt wherever we go on holidays. The Missing Bean is supposedly an Oxford 'institution'. We bought coffees here (flat whites) on a Sat and Sun morning in Feb and on both occasions it was packed to the gills with tourists and students alike. We could understand why - it's a cosy, open plan place that lends itself to people watching or gazing out the huge picture windows onto Lincoln College on the other side of this narrow road. The ambience was inviting on both days, but the coffee was disappointing. We waited over ten minutes queueing and we were given lukewarm flat whites. As a coffee snob, I know flat whites shouldn't be piping hot, but these were tepid at best - both days.

Small but bijoux -especially coffee wise Popular and busy at certain times as busy centre location but a lmid morning visit was enough to get a table for an hours rest with my iPad Loads of people set up laptops here - so it seems you just go with the flow of footfall traffic and if busy - move table on Coffee lovely - something about Heart stencilled latte that makes it taste nicer automatically ! It's the little touches that do it Like the friendly and helpful staff They roast their own blend so it has a Distinctive taste away from standard Costa / SB /Nero blends Muffins and cake selection - paninis and baguettes on offer Something for everyone Worth a visit !

Had a delicious goats cheese and aubergine toasted sandwich which was very generously sized and reasonably priced.

We came here several days ago whilst visiting Oxford. It was highly recommended to us by our friend and it did not disappoint! The coffees were great, I thought mine had a slightly liquorice aftertaste which was different but tasty. We have heard that they also toast their own beans, they obviously take pride in their work and the place was very busy when we came. Highly recommended if you are looking for a decent coffee.

The coffee here is excellent although a little expensive and there is usually not much room inside to have a seat.

It's a lovely little (hipsterish ) coffee shop. Was recommended to me so I went with high hopes. Lots of people so no place to sit down (fair enough as it was lunch time). I had a cappuccino. I ordered the regular to take away. It was in a small cup (a flat white sized cup) which didn't bother me. But it felt light and when I took off the lid I noticed the cup was only two thirds full. Quite disappointing to be honest as the coffee itself was very tasty...just feel I got shorted on the take away.

The missing bean makes a very nice cup of coffee, and their cakes are delicious as well. With friendly service, and a wide selection of options I would recommend this shop for a takeaway coffee to anyone. For those hoping to sit down this may not be the place for you. It's a tiny shop and doesn't offer much for seating, though they do the best they can with the space they have. It's also very popular so the seats there are usually taken up, but it's quite pleasant if you do grab a space. I will certainly be going back many times.
