Nice, traditional pub with good selection of beers/ drinks and lovely pizza 🍕

Delicious pizzas with some half price offers. Definitely would recommend and can't wait to go back. Also had dog friendly areas.

Excellent home made pizza, friendly staff good atmosphere.

Nice choice of ales and lots of icosy rooms to choose from, including a log fire and a tap room. I didn't take any food, but what I saw looked good. The bar was full of dirty glasses when I got there and the barman was outside on a break so not the best first impressions. Prices reasonable for the area. I'll visit again

Fantastic pub with a great variety of beverages and tasty pizzas. I am celiac and absolutely love the pizzas from this kitchen. Visited this lovely place in York several times now and my family gets stuffed in here 😄every time.

Nice beer garden, a large variety of pizza options. They have also gluten free, vegan and vegetarian pizzas.

We've been to York quite a few times and always walked past the Minster Inn. That was definitely a mistake. It fitted for what we needed yesterday and had such a very pleasant surprise. My pizza (the El Mariachi) was possibly the best pizza I have ever had. We'll be back.

It's one of the best pizza places in York.. been many times. But omg..tried something different and as a nachos afficionado...the best I have ever had.

Good beer, but told we couldn't order food as they had a large group arriving in around 20 minutes (we only wanted one pizza). Another example of a pub that caters for those who've not arrived yet better than those who are actually there and willing to spend money. Why display menus if you're not willing to serve the food? Not really a decent way to run a pub, but staff didn't seem to care. Worth noting that after 30 minutes the group still hadn't arrived! Would have stayed for more drinks, but left to go somewhere that actually welcomed our custom instead.

Phenomenal. Right up there with the best pizza I've had. Also great beers on offer, kept very well. Nice staff and cosy atmosphere.

Lovely pub! Its quite small, but when we were there it was waiter service which was great. Booking is required at busy times, The drinks selection is great, pub grub is super, atmosphere is lovely. We will return next time we are in York!

Mixed emotions about doing this review. The Minster Inn is perfect. Great staff, lovely pizza & fab ale. Then I want to keep it to ourselves ... but that would not pay their bills 🤔 8Aug24 - still great just no pizza today.

Only went in for a pint, okay pub food looked good, good size portions. More of an eatery than a pub hence the 3 stars.

Perfect pizza at a perfect price, served with humour. Lovely vibes, music and historic decor. A hidden gem. Highly recommend.

I'm very disappointed. Having arrived just after 5 p.m. today, Sunday, we were told we unable to order food. There were minimal people eating, but despite this, it was no. We sat and drank for an hour, and still, the room was dead. The hospitality was extremely poor. We supported this business on numerous occasions during the pandemic and feel very disappointed.

Long time since I've visited York and the Minster Inn, glad to report the beer is as cracking as it was all those years ago.

Excellent food and service, staff went the extra Mile when we explained re sons food allergy. Couldn't fault food or service 5 stars. Toilets clean too.

The Minster Inn is rapidly becoming one of my favourite spots in York. It is in a ideal location just outside the park and every time I go, whether it be with family or friends, we're always made to feel so welcome - especially by the main American guy with the beard. He is just really brilliant at customer service. Excellent selection of drinks and last time I was in at the back end of June with my brother and mate, tried the pizzas for the first time - really good. The beer garden out the back is really nice too. Will be going on every visit to York! Starting on 24th August!

What a great pub. Service at the table, great Guinness, excellent pizza and good friends. We did this during a lull in lockdown 3 years ago and thought it was time we did it again. We dropped lucky with the Minster Inn then so why change now? We've booked the date for next year. Excellent.

Just visited York for the first time and used trip advisor to select this bar as it was close to our hotel, we visited a couple of times, mainly due to the friendly staff, during our first visit they pointed out that the tables and chairs across the road belonged to them, when sitting outside a couple of staff members came over and chatted, giving us invaluable info on York which we used during our break, we did not eat but the pizzas looked delicious.

would like to add that Adam was an amazing host..who gave exceptional service…nothing was too much trouble at all…it was a very busy afternoon and dealt with it in a calm and collected manner with a sense of humour… Caroline was also another great team member and looked after all the visiting dogs with great enthusiasm plus plenty of dog treats…I will be definitely visiting again next time I’m in York..Thank you Minister Inn 😀

One of the best pints of Guinness in York! Very friendly staff who are knowledgeable. Even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon they were cleaning tables ready for the next customers. Can't judge on the food but those pizza's looked dead tasty! Only reason it didn't get a 5 was there's no vaping/smoking out back. But that's a minor gripe in the whole scheme of things.

Went in for lunch today, what a lovely pub! Food is mostly wood fired pizzas and a variety of sides, the tiramisu is a must! Staff were great, and its a cosy and friendly atmosphere. Bar guy said it is defo worth booking at busy times. Will definitely be back!

Just been for a family get together this afternoon to The Minster Inn and had a great time. The thin base pizzas are lovely and the choice of toppings was imaginative and tasty. I had the ‘Couldn’t Give a Fig’ pizza which was fab and went well with a nicely poured Guinness. Staff were great, really attentive and with a sense of humour which made our experience even better. Thank you to the team and chefs.

10 stars. Brilliant pub. Most excellent barman - friendly, welcoming, funny, efficient, great at his job. Dog friendly pub. Real 'propahh' pub in every way. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available on menu. Has outdoor seating - very nice and cosy as is covered, sheltered and has those outdoor heater things. Three lovely rooms, smart decor and with woodburners. Great range of handpulled cask beers. On the day I visited casks available were: Leeds Best Bitter, Ilkley Brewery's Blonde, Turning Point Brew Co's Lucid Dream Milk Stout, Turning Point Brew Co's Pixel Enthusiast West Coast Session IPA and Kirkstall Brewery's Pale Ale. I had the latter and it's a lovely drop. I had the veggie loaded nachos and pon my word.... what a plateful! Size of a dustbin lid! Tasty. Filling. Nommmm, purrrr. Most highly recommended. For sure I shall be returning. Worra pub!

We had a lovely lunch here. The pizza is absolutely delicious and they have a relaxed and friendly ambiance.

Dropped in for a quick drink, but ended up staying to eat after chatting with the super friendly staff. Had an amazing pizza and sides, so happy to have found this place!

The food was great and we could not knock it. There was a new chef on and he did a great job especially as it was busy. Well done. We complimented him at the end. However, the service needs some work. Whenever we asked for a few things we just got a “no” and no suggestion of an alternative. “Do you have a high chair? “No” “Do you have baby changing?” “No” There is no legal obligation to provide baby facilities and I realise the venue is small but the response was just an arrogant and rude. Sitting holding a hungry baby in a dirty nappy for 2 hours was difficult especially with the long wait for food. A small high chair from Ikea takes very little room to store. “Can we have a large pizza?” “No- it will take up too much room in the oven?” Don’t advertise it if you can’t make it. Or at least advise it would take longer. Like I say, the food was very good but the service would put me off returning.

When you're a bit off the tourist track, you need to work harder and it's clear these guys do, but effortlessly. I had a gluten free pizza that is the best I've had anywhere. The base was large and the toppings were generous - none of the usual skimpy GF disappointment that tastes like cardboard and looks like a child's portion. If you hadn't told me it was GF, I'd have thought it was a normal crispy base. My wife's pizza was equally generous and delicious. Lots of different rooms, some buddy and buzzy, ours quiet and comfortable. The balance of traditional features and modern decor is very well considered. All round, excellent.

We've used this pub regularly over the last few years but recently left there feeling disappointed :( A group of us went for my son's birthday but we felt the pizzas/value for money weren't up to previous standards, i deliberately chose to go on a Sunday to use the 'bogof' they advertise on Facebook but felt let down! We've been before as a group of an odd number and paid for the pizzas and had the equivalent number free, this time we were told we were told that as there was five of us we needed to pay for three pizzas but could only have two free.........that's not the way the 'deal' is advertised imo. I've contacted them about the matter before leaving a review but aren't happy with our experience and won't be going back or recommending, shame as I've told lots of people how good it was in the past. It really took the shine off our family night out so we didn't bother staying for more drinks, one to strike off our list!!!

Stunning Edwardian pub with bags of character and great service. Always a few good beers on, we had a couple from Acorn Brewery & Beavertown. The pizzas are superb! It's very easy to lose a few hours in one of the cosy little rooms or the covered yard, also of note is that their outside toilets are immaculate. It's a great run pub all around and one of our favourites to visit in York.

A friend booked a table for a few hours to play board games. The staff accommodated this admirably and kept us well served with drinks throughout the afternoon. They also welcome dogs, which is nice- several calm dogs were in the bar and got in no-one's way. It is quite a small pub though, so can be busy. If you're after a quiet drink, it'd be best to go early to avoid the crowds!

Just popped in for a couple of drinks. Relaxing place to pass an hour or two. Welcoming staff. Good choice of beers and wine. Looking forward to going again and enjoying a pizza next time, which looked pretty good!

A lovely old pub with a good selection of well kept beer and a massive menu of excellent pizzas. The welcome and service was great making this a must visit if you love pizza. They even have some of the best Gluten free pizza bases we have had if you are GF.

Brilliant pub with great pizzas and lovely service. Went for the first time on New Year’s Day as a group of four and were served quickly. Pizza choices are great - the pesto chicken was a winner round the table. Great vibe, family friendly. Will be back again.

Me and my partner visited here yesterday for the first time we reserved a table in advance and upon arrival ,were promptly seated and made to feel welcome the food was phenomenal and service was expectional we ordered 2 pizzas and some loaded fries all which arrived piping hot ,there was also a nice selection of drinks etc I would highly this place and will be returning in the future .

Just so welcoming. Staff make the place. Pizza wine real ale all top class but it's the staff that Make it!

Amazing place - we turned up unannounced and, despite it being busy, were quickly found a table. And we were so glad they did as the pizza was simply delicious! Top marks from myself and my husband for the very attentive staff, excellent food and drink and the provision of a warm haven on a very chilly night.

Pub seemed to be lacking warmth and friendliness

Nice old pub. Not very big, so gets full and busy quickly. Seems very popular, and we could see why. We sat in the garden for the first part of the evening, where we had pizza and chilli chips. Absolutely delicious. After some time, the pub thinned out and we made our way inside. It was nice and cozy with its old decor and feel. The bar staff are friendly but do get rushed off their feet, so be a little patient, they are putting in some graft. Definitely worth making a visit, as it’s just out of town. So has a real local feel to it.

A great place to eat. Found it when visiting the Railway museum and wanted some food. Very reasonably priced and lovely food, pleasant staff. Would certainly go back there again when visiting York.

Absolutely fantastic for us and our 10yo, pizza brilliant, great beer, music not too loud and the service is fantastic - can’t recommend it highly enough - but you do need to book - and order the tiramisu first b4 it runs out

We made a last minute booking yesterday afternoon for the evening, and have to say the pub, atmosphere, service, food and drinks were all top marks. A great local pub with two outstanding members of staff who are customer focussed, the man behind the bar and the lady who served us are a credit to this place. Found this bar on our way back from the Rail Museum, so glad we did. Firstly, lovely looking pub, really liked the decor and atmosphere. Secondly, the music rocks. Thirdly and most importantly, the Butterly Bitter was crystal clear and delicious. Fourthly ! The cheesy chips selection is top nosh. And fifthly and by no means lastly, the staff are brilliant. We went for an evening meal here having booked way in advance we were asked to send the parties food order in a few days prior as there was too large parties in at the same time! The food still took 2 hours to come! And staff said they did not do starters even though the menu makes it look like starters are available, we did get it prior to the mains but wouldn’t have ordered it had we known they don’t normally do that! The food was lovely when it did arrive though!

I booked the Minster Inn for myself and friends, and were delighted with our choice. From the moment we entered the pub we felt welcome, and the service was friendly, courteous and efficient throughout. The pizzas were simply delicious, piping hot and home made, uniformly excellent. The beer was excellent too, perfectly kept cask ale from Wold Top. When we’re exceeded our generous time allocation indoors we were given seating in the covered area outside. Will definitely return. The pub is nicely situated on the far side of the Museum gardens, so away from the noisy crowds in the town centre. Booking easy and efficient online; I’d recommend doing that as York very busy, especially evenings and weekends.

Second visit to the Minster Inn and I absolutely recommend the ‘I Don’t Give a Fig’ pizza, it is delicious. Even the skin on fries and halloumi sticks were amazing. Happily say it’s one of the best pizzas I’ve had!! Such lovely staff, kitchen manager especially. Had the Dark n Stormy cocktail which was lovely as well. I will definitely be back!

Service was poor as had to wait about 45mins for 2 pizzas and loaded nachos. Loaded nachos were burnt and far from loaded. Very scarce on the minced beef. Food was mediocre, won’t visit again
