In my experience, the quality of a pizza hinges on its bread. Here, it's crispy on the outside and fluffy in the centre without being too dense or doughy. This is exactly what I like in a slice, and with the cheese being of a high quality, I know I can order any toppings and still love it. If you share similar tastes, then The Block is where you need to visit.

Lots of pizza options, also vegan option. Tried the pepperoni, nduja and aubergine vegan and all great. You pay for “block” pieces of pizza on display, they then heat them up in the oven. Served on parchment paper and a tray so you can grab each piece easily as the base isn’t sloppy, but in a good way. Also you can add chilli flakes, sauces separately. For me the winner is option to shake oregano on top as well, game changer!

I tried two vegetarian pizza slices yesterday and they were really nice. Keep up the good work guys, you are doing an amazing job.

Finally got round to trying the pizza from here and wow it is amazing! Can't wait to be back again!

Love this place. They always have a vegan pizza on, and it’s always so nice. The atmosphere is great, ample seating for such a small shop but truly this is recommended. Really good to drop in after a long journey for a small snack!

Popped in this Saturday lunchtime, lovely greeting from the staff behind the counter. Asked him for 4 slices of his choice and they did not disappoint. Genuinely not had pizza this good in York before. The bases were so crispy and the toppings didn’t just slide off with every bite. Fantastic little lunch spot. Plenty of seating, it’s a real shame this place isn’t packed out, especially being a sunny Saturday in the city centre!

Absolutely love this place! Independently owned, with a great vibe and music matched with great pizza, served by the slice which is a rare thing around these parts and great for those that can't finish a full pizza! Will definitely be back!

Been here a few times for pizza time, great tasting reasonable sized slices. Costs about a fiver, large diverse selection of pizza to choose from. Nice vibe inside, decent staff working here. Perfect casual eating.

Nice atmosphere, fast service and good quality pizza. Perfect for a quick bite, or a more relaxed session with a few drinks! We had the grandma pizza (margherita) and the nduja one - both very nice indeed. Decent value too, the portions are large, with one slice being more than enough for a quick lunch.

Just went in randomly one Saturday afternoon, and it's an excellent find. Great pizza, best pint of Brooklyn I've ever had, really cozy place and great service, will be back

This is the best slice pizza ive eaten outside of naples. With great topings, and great music. Also best pint of san miguel in york.

The pizza from here is spectacular - really crispy, but also light and fluffy! Jammed full of flavour and super delicious. The owner was telling me he spent lots of time researching the recipes in Rome, and it really shows! Really friendly guy and amazing place to sit eat pizza and drink beer

Great atmosphere and alright pizza. Mind you a did see a few flies on the food but I don't overly care cause it's cooked before given to you.

Really disappointed with this place. Pizza was dry and reheated. Really not great for the price. Much better food options in York. Doesn’t accept York gift card, even though they are supposed to.

Serves good pizza at reasonable prices, but the restaurant/bar is disgustingly dirty! The table was filthy with bits of food on it (definitely not cleaned in between visitors) and I accidentally dropped something on the floor under the table (one of the booths with benches) and when I went to pick it up, there was what looked like a lot of very old bits of food all over the floor and the floor was generally very unclean. Our glasses also didn't look clean and my wife had a bad stomach for nearly a week after visiting. Would not return unless they sorted the cleanliness out. I noted the "5 star food hygiene rating" sticker while we were there and commented that there's no way they'd get that if an inspector were to walk in while we were there. Such a shame because it could be a really cool pizza bar.

Tasty pizza slabs, but could have done with some dips!

We called in to get a slice and drink for 3 of us. I waited outside with the dogs and was invited in to select my pizza. We waited outside and the lovely lady brought our food out to us. To top off the wonderful staff, the pizzas were to die for. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I had the nduja, as well as an artichoke and feta, both pizzas were delicious, staff friendly and I lucked out going on a Thursday when 2 slices and a beer were £14.

The Block is a great spot for pizza, we popped in for a quick bite and a pint with not much time to spare. You can select which pizzas you want varying from £4-5 and they do you a large rectangular slice cut into 2 (we shared). As a recommendation, it's the perfect spot for a quick bite before doing something else for the evening. Staff were friendly, pizza was nice and they had good music on and a good selection of drinks, including brooklyn lager on draught!

It's a cool hangout, nowhere else like it in York, nice slices, nice beer, nice staff innit.

Quick and easy, and a very tasty quick lunch. A good fast food alternative. Lots of different options and veggie/ vegan options to pick from. The dough was lovely and crispy and then had some good sauce options. They salami and pepperoni with chilli was one of the best choices.

The Block is great. Amazing Pizza, great atmosphere, fantastic decor and brilliant service. I've walked passed here loads but never been in until today, we'll definitely be back. I love the concept of being able to order different flavoured pizzas rather that just one. They also have a brilliant selection of hot sauces which is rare to find; usually there's a choice or 1 or 2 but there were 10 here (I even got a cheeky sample to take home with me).

Having ketchup would be a nice extra.

Relaxed environment, a nice range of beers and lots of pizza ready to choose from. Get a lot for what you pay for

I came here for a pint and a slice and both were brilliant! The pizza slice is actually pretty big so it was filling and super delicious. I could have eaten just the one and been content, but it was so nice I ended up ordering another. I was very full but it was worth it! Super tasty dough and nice and cheesy. They do have vegan slices but once we'd arrived they'd sold out, so I'd say get there earlier to avoid missing out on your fave pizza.

Hungry! The Block will serve you a slice of Heaven. The Pizza can be pre ordered or bought in house, but beware, they are, DELICIOUS. Well worth popping into a place that is a bit different to your usual Pizza place but you will enjoy this choice of venue

After three attempts to visit, it was well worth the wait.

The pizza here was so delicious, I wasn't sure what I wanted to get at first and I'm not sure what I did order but it was so good! I also really enjoyed the music they had playing, it was such a good vibe! I went as it was reccomended to me but I'd definitely advise other people go if you're looking for a quick bite to eat in the city centre!

This is how pizza should be! Great choice of toppings, always really fresh and tasty and fantastic value. Oh and the musics always top notch too :) love it! If you’re looking for a relaxed, casual place to go for some food then this is a must!

Great to find a place that does ace pizza and by the slice, they could even accommodate my girlfriend who has allergies. Really lovely staff, had a good chat with them n very friendly. Good atmosphere, good selection of flavours, I'd be happy sitting in there all day working my way through the menu.

Found this place on tripadvisor small pizza restaurant run by a great couple pizza is fantastic with a good choice of ready topped pizza cooked while you wait very well run and were playing great music aswell if you're visiting York this place is a must well done

Popped in today for something to eat for lunch and wasn't disappointed the place is amazing the food is to die for and the atmosphere is super, we had a couple of beers and a pepperoni slice and the spicy sausage slice both were amazing loved it here

I visited the block and ordered 2 slices which came up to £8.50 not cheap when you can get a full pizza for that price. The toppings were very tasty so good job on that 👍but the dough was awful sorry guys but you really need to sort that one out! Not sure if it’s the dough ingredients that is making the pizza so tough or if it’s because they re-heat it again after it’s cooked? It was as hard as a piece of cardboard… Also they reheated a slice which had rocket on it so when it came back out the rocket was not looking to good anymore, maybe add the rocket after? Shame as the concept could be amazing if the slices were cheaper (around £6.50) and the dough was better.

Everytime I come to York either on my own or with my partner I always make it a mission to go and get a slice of the spicy pizza... its absolutely fantastic, the staff are very friendly and prices are very decent.

Great pizzas squares for approximately £4. Offers Student or NHS discount. Has it's own toilet. Plays tunes by Air. Only 4 stars as have had even better pizzas elsewhere

Its such a good place. In Italy we loved these kind of places where you can taste few bits of different pizzas. I would love to have same concept place in our region. Me and my husband ordered each two slices and I was full for all day. Also the staff is so friendly. This place is very popular it was packed with people once we visited.

So good! You do not feel like the pizzas are unhealthy but they are so tasty. Excellent selection of pizzas and great vegan / veggie options too. Great for a lunch in York and prices are reasonable.

One of York’s best spots. Great range of pizzas, always a great selection of hot sauces. Staff are friendly and there’s always a great atmosphere whether you’re in for lunch or a late night snack.

You wouldn’t come here for the quality of pizza. It’s more like a decent hearty filler after a few drinks (to soak it up). The choice is great with some innovative takes but I wasn’t impressed with the quality - reheated. Nice seat outside to watch York pass by in the sun oh and lovely staff.

The pizza was nice and a bit unusual, staff were friendly. The place itself is nice to sit in although it is small so might get busy at peak times.
