The Milton Hare in West Oxfordshire

We were fortunate to chance upon The Milton Hare, which is dog-friendly. We received a warm welcome, the food was delicious and well presented, it was fairly priced and the service was attentive. Best of all, we requested slight changes to the dishes we ordered and they were met with no fuss or extra charge. 10/10 from us. Highly recommend and hope to return when next visiting the area.

After a drive from London to visit Jeremy Clarkson’s farm and shop and giving up after the queues at both I found The Milton Hare and what a blessing !! Delicious food, lovely venue , great staff and honestly the best Sunday Roast (beef) I have had in a long time !!

I really enjoyed that the food was fresh and flavorful! The Cornish plaice with samphire was really good (I had never had samphire and I was pleased with how good it tasted). They also served an excellent posset with a summer berry compote on top-all in all, an excellent meal!

Many pubs in the area serve excellent food in great surroundings but the people and the personable service make this place stand out and turned our celebration into a very memorable one. Can’t thank the guys enough for just being their entertaining selves and making us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back when visiting the Cotswolds again.

We were staying locally for my husbands 60th Birthday, and I decided we would visit The Hare for his Birthday meal. The staff were lovely and attentive and made a fuss of our little dog Megan. The food was absolutely delicious. We opted for all seafood, and both thoroughly enjoyed our food. I had the crab starter and Rissotto main, and my husband had the squid started and skate wings main. We shared a cheese board and a chocolate brownie (which they put a candle in and wrote Happy Birthday on the plate, which was a lovely touch) I can't recommend The Hare enough.

Lovely, personable service and delicious food. We particularly enjoyed the seafood specials, of which there were quite a few. Nice atmosphere, pleasant but not too busy

Nice Cotswold Pub in Milton under Wychwood. We have visited several times. Bar and waiting staff very friendly. Knowledgeable of the wines too. Higher end price ticket but worth it and always consistently good quality.

We met friends here in January We enjoyed our lunch so we came back again . It looks like a little country pub but the food is if a high standard . Little more expensive than pub food but you are getting good restaurant food . The staff are friendly and helpful so what’s not to like good food , nice atmosphere and helpful friendly staff

Warm and cosy Cotswold pub. Welcoming and accommodating. Girls weekend away and James our waiter tempted us with shots! Thanks for making our boozy afternoon such fun.

Our family of five were staying in a holiday cottage nearby during our children’s half term and so we popped in for lunch one day. Service was quick and food was very tasty. My husband gave his pork and leek pie 10/10. Good children’s options too. Staff were friendly. Would happily go again if we are ever in the area again.

I hadn’t been to the Hare in quite sometime so whilst on our way back from a wonder around Stow I called to see if they could fit us in, which they happily did. When we arrived we were greeted by a pleasant young lady who continued to be our waitress throughout our lunch. We ordered drinks, and our food, myself the calamari to begin and my husband the scotch egg followed by the Moules mariniere and the crispy beef salad. The presentation of all the dishes was excellent and the food did not disappoint, it was extremely tasty. We both decided to have desert, an affogato and a crème brûlée, and I must say it was the best crème brûlée I have ever had. The meal was a good price with service charge added which we don’t t mind paying, especially when it is well deserved. We cannot wait to return.

We met with two friends who had eaten here before . The welcome is cheerful and bright . The pub is well laid out and spotlessly clean . Menu has good options and prices reflect the standard of the food . No complaints albeit my wife did have a cheery sone left in what should have been stoned cherries . Small issue but could have been a problem with broken tooth .

First time here with friends who have been before. Friendly warm greeting from the staff. Menu choice OK but prices certainly reflect the Chipping Norton brigade. Wine prices are absurd so the wife had an Orange Juice @ £4.25. Pint of IPA was £5.60 which is a bit pricey. Food arrived piping hot and well presented. The food was good but portion control was very apparent. Two of our party were still quite peckish so had a desert. £8 each for tiny portion of Blackberry and Apple Crumble is a blatant rip off. Finally, a 12.5% Service Charge was automatically applied which was naughty as we would have preferred to tip the waitress directly. Would we return ? No, I think there are plenty of others to choose from at a more affordable price.

Booked in advance for a New Years Eve meal for two. On our arrival at 830pm, it was super busy, as expected. This did not affect our service. Staff members were welcoming, efficient and friendly. Our meals were good. My mussel starter was delicious - I wish now I’d had it as my main option. In general, just a very pleasant evening on, probably, one of their busiest nights. Thank you 😊

We had lunch at this lovely pub on their beautiful terrace. We had the Scotch Egg, Caesar salad, schnitzel chicken with wine and beer and it was absolutely delicious. What a mesmeric pub/restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by front of house staff and led to our table. The whole feel of this impressive pub is relaxed and welcoming warmth.The tables are far away from each other to allow discreet conversation.The menu is comprehensive and easy to navigate. The delicious home made bread with the starter was followed by the most delicious cod . We are local to the area and have eaten here before but this time the chef and his brilliant team out classed themselves and I have been driven to put pen to paper!!

Food can be inconsistent, had good and bad meals. Choose steak on the last visit which was good. Great light snacks. Had a pint of prawns before which were still frozen but didn’t put us off.

Used to live here and loved it when it reopened as a pub with dining in 2026. Yet another pub has fallen into becoming a restaurant, although I fully appreciate the financial necessities. Just a shame for the village. It is part of a three site group and this more or less surpasses the Plough in Kingham and almost as good as the Crown in Enstone. However, not that much between them… Smallish menu with which I have no gripe at all as the expertise of the chef is concentrated and, here, he is excellent. The seafood was sublime for an area lacking in enough decent fish and shell fish on menus. The front of house were more than capable, efficient and almost invisible which is a mark of professionalism and training. Only reason marked it down one star would be I could only give the Crown at Enstone five!!

6pm table booking, Saturday evening and a perfect start to the evening. Menu was excellent (see photos), great range, varied options and prices. Difficult to beat Scotch Egg starter. Chicken for main was excellent and their salads are delicious

One of our local pubs. Sadly our visit this week highlighted that meal portion sizes have reduced significantly. Whilst the food was tasty we all popped into the CoOp on the way home to by pizzas! Sadly for the prices charged we will go elsewhere until the meals are are better value for money :-(

Visited here for dinner while staying at Stow. The crevettes were amazing and have never tasted this dish so good before. A really great fish meal and well worth the trip from Stow.

I cannot say enough good things about The Hare. Everything was exceptional from the service to the food to the bar staff. Our meals of chicken with gnocchi, pork and leek pie, tomoto and basil soup, and. Caesar salad were first rate and the attention to detail was second to none. It is very clear that the chef and the kitchen staff have a knack for flavor and presentation and it showed with all of our food. Even the bread we had as a nibble and with the soup appeared to be house made. I highly recommend this lovely gastropub if you are looking for a wonderful dining experience in the Cotswolds.

The reason for the 3 stars the service was good are drinks were forgotten I admit when we pointed this out they did come out quickly so this was fixed. But the chef must have an ego that won’t allow him to change his roast dinner when my wife who doesn’t like beef but fancied a roast so asked for a sausage instead the Chef said no so she had the beef which wasn’t great quite tough. The rest of the food was good but for me a simple request and an embraced waitress having to come back to the table says it all for me won’t be back not a problem as their are a lot of good restaurants around.

Delicious first class Sunday lunch, perfectly cooked Roast Beef, large homemade Yorkshire pudding, the best cauliflower cheese and marinated sweet red a cabbage, carrots, broccoli, roast potatoes- cooked to perfection. Homemade warmed Treacle tart with clotted cream vanilla ice cream …so moreish!

Although I had a lovely evening in the hare this weekend, and the guys behind the bar were wonderful. I couldn’t help but notice the attitude of the waitress that served a lady at the bar. The lady had understandably asked for the music to be turned down, a request I believe to be completely reasonable because I also couldn’t hear my partner over the very loud music . The waitress refused to turn the music down and was surprisingly quite impolite and rude about it. It was very unprofessional and then she muttered something I imagine to be rude under her breath about her customer which is unacceptable

Hm. What's happened at the Hare? A Friday lunchtime should be buzzing with diners and usually is but not one our last visit. The staff were preoccupied and hogged the only lit fire in the place whilst diners sat in chilled rooms. A bit of warmth and for that matter a bit of light on a nasty, cold, wet day would have transformed the place. Service was indifferent, food ok but nothing out of the ordinary. On the whole an unremarkable visit lacking anything special and given the local alternatives we will not rush to return.
