We had a very interesting selection of toasties for lunch - had never thought of putting haggis or venison salami with cheese - both very tasty. Great coffee too and friendly service. The cakes looked great as well but we were too full!

I walked from Ballater on the old rail track and came across this place. Had a great Capuccino while sitting in and then treated myself to a couple of cheeses - Cambus May and Lochnagar - both turned out to be extremely flavourable when I got them home so they didn't last long.

One of the best toasties I’ve ever eaten. Beautiful cheese and served with a fresh salad and crisps. Friendly staff and very clean facilities. Just a short drive from Ballater. We were cycling on the spectacular old railway track from Ballater to Aboyne and had the toastie on the way back. Would highly recommend both!

Had arranged to meet friends at a nearby coffee shop which turned out to be closed. Our good fortune as the welcome and service we received from Davinia and her colleagues at the Milk Hoose was warm and attentive. Fabulous coffees and scrumptious quiche lorraine served with big smiles were our reward. Clearly very popular and deservedly so. I shall be returning when I next visit the area. Keep up the good work. Marcus

They don't make cheese everyday, so check in advance if you want to see their fabulous cheese's being made. The very friendly and helpful staff are passionate about their produce and are happy to talk cheese to you. We look forward to returning in the future to see it being made. It's worth noting that the toasties in the Milk Hoose are a good enough reason on their own for paying them a visit. The macaroni cheese and chorizo one was a strange delight. There is also a good selection of bakes and cakes for those with a sweet tooth as well as various teas and coffees. The prices are very reasonable with generous portion sizes. I look forward to return visit next time we're in the area. The Milk Hoose is wheelchair accessible.

Great stop for a light lunch. We had taken the riverside walk from Ballater, so a lunch stop was very welcome. The ploughman’s is recommended featuring their own award winning cheeses. The cakes and traybakes are very good too. Plenty of room to sit out on a fine day, but it might get a bit crowded inside in wet weather.

A wonderful find at the end of a great walk through the forest of Cambus O’May. A simple and tasty menu focusing on the delicious cheeses made on site.

My wife and I came across this lovely cafe/cheese house in a forest following one of the Ballater walks. Maggie was very friendly, welcoming and lovely.. she served a fabulous coffee (nicer than Costa!) as well as a lovely Gluten Free lemon drizzle cake to die for! Compliments to the chef.. Hopefully we will be back in Scotland at the end of the year and will definitely re-visit this place.. Cant wait!

Brae is close to home, in the village of Chapleton, between Newtonhill & Stonehaven. Popped in just before lunchtime on a Sunday, and received a very warm welcome. I was there to get takeaway goods. Both members of staff encountered were very friendly, and attended to my order in a quick & efficient manner. Hot chocolates and mochas very nice, special praise for the apple crumble cake. Utterly delicious and the dog liked it as well! 😬 Nice decor, it was also very clean. I will happily return again.

What a great little cafe, quite hidden away, in lovely surroundings. It is part of a project to help people with disabilities to develop new skills and find employment so go along for meal or just a drink and some cake and you’ll be helping to support a really worthwhile project

Excellent food, ambient and service. We had Ribs and the Roast with Sirloin. All delicious. The ribs barbecue sauce is particularly special and tasty.
