The Milk Churn, Melksham in Wiltshire

We went in and asked the staff if they catered for gluten free and was told they did so we sat down and ordered a drink whilst looking over the menu unfortunately and very disappointed there was nothing I could have so I asked a member of staff who said he wasn’t aloud to tell me what I could choose but said there was a few things. I’m not a fussy eater and at this point was getting hangry so we decided to leave , shame really as it is a nice place

Really nice food, particularly the fat fluffy chips! Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely be visiting again.

Cosy place with delicious food and fabulous drinks. Team were attentive and helped when we asked for more cutlery and napkins. Also re-made one of the meals that didn't meet the diner's satisfaction.

My Mother visited Wednesday 16th October. Waitress asked about allergens and my mum said she had an allergy to lemon/citrus/vinegar and requested no lemon in her prawn sandwich or vinegarette on her salad. The waitress replied with “it is what it is and we can’t change stuff” Her sandwich came with a huge slice of lemon on on her plate…the waitress again replied..”we aren’t allowed to change ingredients and it has to be plated up the correct way” This is not the correct way to deal with allergen process and common sense would have told the chef to not put the lemon slice on the plate. Utterly bizarre.

Dated 041024.approached at short notice and fully accomadated a group of 22. Pre wedding meet and greet.. Pre ordered food was the only request. A decent function area allocated at no cost made evening perfect.. The pub is well decorated. Very modern and a great atmosphere.. All staff are very friendly and polite.. A fantastic service from cradle to grave. The food was excellent and well presented. Everyone enjoyed the visit and will definitely return.. Very satisfied indeed

There is a BUT to this honest review....Absolutely love this place, been numerous times over several years. Staff friendly, dog friendly, good atmosphere. BUT... being honest..... Such a shame they no longer serve value for money food. Took friends who were visiting from Germany. The meals were so much smaller than they used to be and very expensive. We are happy to pay these prices normally but what we received was truly disappointing. A piece of fish with a 'few' chips and peas. A tiny and quite tough steak with a bit of 'greenery' a handful of chips. A pasta dish with a weeny weeny salad. 4 drinks and it came to over £85. The fish was quite strong flavoured and my husband did not enjoy it. No staff member came to ask if all was OK, so we did not get chance to give our feedback. Definitely gone down hill. As we said staff were lovely but we think the company need to look at value for money to ensure people return. Hope this reaches the management.

Beautiful inside, friendly service, unfortunately weren't happy with the food at all and very pricey *EDITED* sadly came round very quickly that the main actually made us both unwell, will never be returning

Pricey! Nearly £11 for a coke and pint of lager. Food ok, but chicken burger was very small.

Food was delicious and was excellent value. Ruby May was an attentive waitress, especially bearing in mind it was very busy and they were a waitress down. Whole experience was made better by the Monday offer of 33 % off.

Brilliant food and atmosphere all great value

Great Central location for a meet up with friends. Lovely staff, the place is well kept, clean and tidy. The food is well priced and good value for money but it isn't spectacular. Ideal for a works meal or that special lunch time occation. I didn't stay at The Milk Churn, hence the no rating for the rooms.

Went for lunch. Fast and friendly service, food is typical for a pub chain and was fine but nothing to get excited about.

Hall & Woodhouse, you’ve lost the plot! Your policy on allergens has ruined our special meal. Two members of the party purely asked for an item (ice cream) to be removed from a pudding and your staff were made to tell them this wouldn’t be possible; this is not their fault. Please use moderation when designing policies so that it does not impact on the experience of the diner whilst being practical and allergen aware. The diner should be allowed to make changes to their meal, e.g., ice cream or sorbet instead of custard, and not be refused when it has nothing to do with their allergy or intolerance. You’ve ruined our evening.

Had a long drive back from Weymouth fancied some grub found this place. Very conveniently located just off the A350. Great garden area to sit outside when the sun's out clean and tidy relaxing atmosphere.

Came for a quick drink and a snack. 40 mins later after ordering triple cooked chips, and two drinks, no chips!!!!! Saw people come in after order drinks and food got it within 15 mins. Not a huge issue I know, but not even an apology’s when we spoke to lady at the bar. Chips finally arrived within 5 mins !! Luke warm, no offer of sauce or salt and vinegar. Very poor service

So went in here for meal, 3 days on the twot, food was great staff was great, and then got the dreaded letter a fine for parking in the car park on one of the days. We know for a fact on the 01/08/24 we entered our registration on the pub touchscreen, on contacting the pub the staff were less than helpful unfortunately on this occasion and was adamant that the car park for there premises has absolutely nothing to do with them, though it's there car park. Very disappointing being that we have spent a fair bit of money here. Don't get us wrong the meals are great here and the staff are great when it comes to drinks and the food. Just very disappointed about the fine, it leaves a worse sour taste than white British wine

Disappointing meals, while they were tasty, there were a few issues (some resolved eventually after discussion with the, very pleasant, duty manager) Large portion of smothered chicken was tepid at best, and we had difficulty it getting the staff's attention. It was returned to be reheated, but when the plate was returned, the skinny fries were cold. Another 5 minute delay to replace the skinny fries. In fairness to, Sam, the duty manager, this was resolved to our satisfaction. I had the fish pie, which was tasty and very hot, I was underwhelmed by the amount of fish and surprised by the excess amount of leeks/ greens in the rather small serving, given the price of the food.

A nice, bright pub/restaurant. Some staff were very good, others weren't. Bar attendant was far from courteous. Very slow service. Meal took forever Good meal. Improve speed of service and stars will improve!

Car problems left our family stuck in the area for the night. Lucky the Milk Churn was just down the road. Great food, drink and service from the Team. Highlight of the day.

we are in the area on a little holiday from wales and we were all so happy with the food and service. ellie mae (i think) was our server and she was very attentive and friendly. the sticky toffee pudding was incredible and we absolutely loved the meal!

Had a birthday party booked for Saturday 3rd August. Booking was very simple and we experience no problems. Staff very kindly put up a few decorations before we arrived, that I had dropped off earlier that day. Staff were friendly, welcoming and did their jobs professionally. I would like to point out that one of your staff members 'Sam', was very helpful. Very polite, very enthusiastic about his job, made everyone feel glad to be there, gave us all a good laugh and overall, the best service I've had in years. He is one reason we shall return if we need to book for a party again. Give that man a salary raise. Damn good worker.

A welcome stop off on a long journey. Fabulous atmosphere and decor, interesting menu, excellent value, swift service and delicious food. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Four of us and our dog stopped on a Saturday afternoon. It was reasonably busy, but by no means rammed. Beer and wine ok. Ordered food at bar. Starters arrived promptly and were good. More drinks, but no sign of our mains. After an hour and having seen others who ordered later being served we asked where our meals were. We were told that it was due to them being busy and they’d be out soon. We think they had been forgotten. Two fish pies arrived and they were good. However, when the steaks arrived we were underwhelmed. One was about three inches square and rather than medium it was rarer than the other “rare” one. Also the mushroom on each plate was pitiful. Steak was sent back and replacement was bigger, but still not cooked properly and not finished. The rare steak was ok at one end, but the thicker end was rare to blue. We did get a full refund on the returned steak and the waitress was very apologetic. Disappointing visit after a promising start. Surely, cooking a steak properly is a formality?

Service was a bit slow , only serve carrots on a Sunday couldn't quite belive that one over all food was great staff were friendly

Epic burger, knocked me for six 🙃

An evening meeting with plenty of room. Wednesday night is Burger night so a double cheeseburger was less than a tenner with chunky fries. Perfect and service was very good too. Lots of room in and outside. Such a convenient spot though not the most picturesque location!

Popped in for a coffee to meet up with an old work colleague.. lots of room, tables inside and out. Friendly staff reasonable prices. Lots of parking spaces. 1 hour stay, check in car registration at the entrance for free extended stay 4hrs i think. Will return to check out their food in the future. Free wifi if you need it.

Excellent meal, highly recommend.

We were staying at the nearby Travelodge and visited the Milk Churn for an evening meal. The bar staff are very friendly and the food is very good and reasonably priced. A good selection of drinks is available and, in the warm weather, it is very pleasant to sit in the outside area. Well worth a visit if in the area !

Good service with very nice food.

This is our stop off coming home from Falmouth or Yeovil. This time a quick lunch break. Greeted and looked after by Tabitha, What a wonderful lil ray of sunshine, happy chatty friendly. Absolute delight, great future in customer service anywhere. Fab soup for me and great portion of pate for the wife. Ice cold beer to wash it down.

Very busy pub but managed to find a seat. Food and service was good. Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Will certainly revisit again

Current burger offer on a Wednesday is great value for money. Tasty food and well presented. Not the first time we've eaten here so no surprise this visit was enjoyable again.

I am afraid I cannot give our experience at this restaurant more than two stars. We were a party of six. The surrounds were pleasant enough, but the food and slow service were a real let down. I and my wife ordered the beer battered fish and chips. For myself, I can honestly say that it was the worst plate of fish and chips I have ever had; and I have certainly had many. The fish I would say was about 70 per cent overcooked batter, and the actual fish inside was so dry as to be completely inedible. The plate that my wife had was not much better. The burgers that the rest of our party had was enjoyed much more; but the experience as as a whole was such a disappointment. I have never posted a bad restaurant review before, but I just had to on this occasion.

We went to have a meal to celebrate mum’s birthday, firstly there was not much Choice if you are gluten free for mum, I ordered the bear battered fish When it cam out looked good, it turned out it was mostly batter very little fish all of which was very chewy no flavour I was vey disappointed, although My wife and my mum did enjoy there meals. We had dessert which was ok however two of the desserts came with a scoop of ice cream it was more like half a scoop

The food was lovely, pub was spacious and well set out and staff really friendly. Having driven past loads of times, it was great to finally visit and we weren’t disappointed.

Menu could do with updating, but nice informal atmosphere and good staff. Overall, it's a bit pricey for a casual lunch

A very big positive surprise. I drove past this place many times and it turned out to be great for family gatherings, dinner and more. Very few vegetarian options but the ones that are available are ok.

Tbh where this pub is situated on a roundabout by a travelodge and car showroom, you'd expect to think this would be a below par chain pub. But It's actually a very nicely decorated Cosy pub with a very varied and tasty menu. Staff are very helpful and very friendly. Was a very welcome place to visit after working all day rather than go back to the travelodge. Great

I am somewhat disappointed from having such a lovely meal here on the 21/04/2024. I have since received a parking charge notice from a private car collection firm stating i now owe £100 because i had gone over the stay and i failed to validate it. I wasn’t aware this was the case when entering the pub, none of the staff mentioned we had to validate anything. We simply come for Sunday lunch for a birthday and now i may be subject to £100 charge. Yet another private parking company seeking profit. Lovely pub and the food is lovely but be mindful of this as that part of the service is ridiculous. I will be appealing as we were not informed we had to validate anything, should the appeal fail litigation can be expected, as this private company has obtained my personal data without consent in aim to profit.

Quick Sunday roast great tasting meal just a little more meat needed

Another fabulous experience for our group meet up at The Milk Churn! We love having the function room for our group and the service is wonderful and makes it so easy!

Lovely venue a bit expensive and not impressed with last orders being 10.30 even though private party and plenty of customers

My friend and I just dropped in for lunch We had steak pie and tuna melt served by Tabatha the food was really good peppery red cabbage smooth mash great gravy and a wholesome steak pie,tuna melt hit the spot with frys a glass of wine delicious.Tabatha is the perfect host bubbly enthusiastic a delight, well-done

This place is marvellous always great food

Nice friendly pub, they didn't take cash for quite a while after the pandemic but I am told they do now.

This was my favourite inn for a morning coffee. But when I called in on Sunday they had increased the cost of latte to £3.45 - a jump of 20p on a price that was already way above the average for the area. Such a shame as the staff were always warm, welcoming and efficient.

We had a great meal when we stopped for an impromptu dinner. It was fantastic value for money, and the staff were delightful, especially the waitress who had just burned herself on boiling hot water.

Brilliant food and drinks. The waitress was exceptional. Funny, polite, and was a massive positive to our evening.

From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and professional. The bar staff always stopped to serve and the drinks were well made. We have always had a good experience but this time was a little better due to the food. The pie was perfectly cooked and not dry inside and the cabbage has been made far less sweet. We also has the nachos which made the meal faultless. I didn't catch the bar staff names but the kitchen staff I believe were Alice and Elena. Thank you

Twice cooked chips were not, pale and anaemic. Coly fish is not for me - however "sustainable" it is. I won't choose it next time, plenty of other choice.

Great food good value and except dogs

Writing this whilst still sat at the table... waiting. Booked the table for 7pm. Table was ready for 7pm. No offer of drinks as we were sat. After about 10minutes waitress comes over asking for drinks. So far OK. We asked what the soup of the day was, the waitress didn't know & had to find out. It was Tomato & Basil if your curious, however it wasn't hot when it arrived, neither were the other 3 starters we ordered. Once our starters we cleared, we said we would like our mains... and after a wait, and a bit more of a wait we went to the bar to ask for more drinks and ask when our mains would be arriving. She went to check and we were informed that they were just being plated...45 minutes after our mains were called. The first thing we checked was the temperature of the food and although the plates were not particularly hot we were pleased that the food was. The 2 pies were lovely. The Cannelloni was lovely however the Mac & Cheese lacked in flavour & sauce. We were curious where the flatbread was from as this definitely had the familiar taste of an ALDI garlic naan bread. The dessert was the reason we wanted to come here as we love banoffee anything, sadly this did not live up to expectations, it was pasty and somewhat dry which did lead to myself and one of my guests not being able to finish it. At least this came in a timely turn around, we weren't asked at any point if we wanted anymore drinks and had to order these separately. In fact it felt like we were tucked away in the corner and forgotten about, the best thing about it was the company I was keeping. As a first experience at this establishment I will gladly say its our last. Now sitting with plates in front of us, and although a waiter just checked back on a table next to us we have gone ignored & all we want to do is pay the bill. We would maybe have ordered another round of drinks if we'd been asked.

Decent enough pub and restaurant handily next door to the Travelodge I was staying in. Perfectly decent food, and they cooked a plain burger for my dog Albert which he said was truly exquisite. Ate there on a Friday evening and there were about 6 or 7 dogs! So maybe not for one who doesn’t like dogs! They are very switched on to dietary allergies and restrictions I found as they ask before every food order

The waitress was pleasant, food delicious, and good, quick service. Nice atmosphere.

Great service and very nice and friendly staff

Super service from Jackie and her team on a busy evening. Drinks and food arrived quickly and we had everything we needed. Bar service was expertly managed.

I had the misfortune to tip a pint of Pepsi into my lap....! Unbidden, the staff appeared instantly with loads of paper towels and helped me clean up amidst much hilarity. Dry and changed now, I just want to say thanks for excellent service and respectful banter. I hope the management read this and commend the staff for 17th Feb lunchtime shift .

Great place for a brief lunch visit. Various lunch choices for all tastes. Not a lot of choice for non meat eaters.

Seriously, I was expecting a lot more from the milk churn. Daughter had fish pie. Said it was very fishy and left it all. Mine was ( Cannelloni ) luke warm & flavourless. Had to ask the waitress to take our mains plates away after she had brought us our deserts. Shame, really !nice pub full of character. The food is substandard & bland .

Very welcoming and superb service from Tabitha. We were a party of around 12 and she remembered who ordered what impeccably. Delivery to table was excellent with all of us getting food together.

We have just held my husband's wake here. The food was excellent, plentiful and reasonably priced. Everything was efficiently served. There were hot drinks included. Everything was carefully labelled for food allergies and preferences. The atmosphere cosy. We felt comfortable and welcome. Thankyou, Milk Churn.

Good parking, great food, and service in a well maintained and organised establishment

Second time lunch here and had a lovely time again. A relaxed atmosphere and quick service. Staff were friendly, engaging and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, lots of choices from sandwiches to full main meals and all tasted lovely and fresh. Despite being just off the main road, it's quiet and cosy inside but with ample tarmac parking right outside. Great level access for those with mobility issues. Will definitely be visiting again.
