We stopped for a light lunch, and had tasty sandwiches and the best coffee yet in Scotland. The cakes are home-made. The staff are super-friendly.

Popped in for some lunch on our road trip. Unfortunately they had ran out of a lot of things but it was later in the day and the member of staff serving was very apologetic, friendly and offered alternatives. Filled roll and herbal tea were excellent and I'll definitely be back for some of the delicious looking home bakes.

We’ve been a Midge Bite customer for years and have generally loved the place and it’s delicious food. Today was an awful experience and as a result, we’ll never return. We arrived at 0800 and entered after another customer. We were all told by the front of house person to ‘take a seat and I’ll be right with you’. We sat as instructed and waited. And waited. Another customers entered the cafe and ordered and received his food before us. The person who entered at the same time as us looked at me and said he’d never been treated with such disdain and left angrily without eating. I approached the counter and asked politely how to get served. The front of house person pointed at the chalk board which said ‘order at the counter’. This felt so rude, as if it was our fault wwe weren’t served: Luckily the lady in the kitchen who brought our food was super friendly and the chef served delicious food as usual. Goodbye Midge Bite.

We were driving from Inverness to Applecross, and came across this delightful, friendly café in a beautiful location on the A832. The café serves a great range of freshly made food and excellent coffee. We all chose from the daily menu, and had scrumptious toasted sandwiches, which sustained us through to our destination. If it is warm enough to sit outside, you can also enjoy the magificent views from the terrace.

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast rolls and hot drinks on our way home from Wester Ross For her, sausage in a roll with ketchup and a hot chocolate, and for me bacon and egg roll, and a tea. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our choices, it was evident that quality ingredients are used. The bacon was thick cut and well smoked, the egg was golden yellow, while the tea was genuinely amongst the best I’ve ever had We were served politely and professionally and were on our way with our takeaway in less than 10 minutes. We used the clean toilet facilities whilst we waited This was our first visit, and certainly won’t be our last. I understand that The Midge Bite is for sale, a great opportunity but with big shoes to fill Recommended

It was time for lunch and actually pulled into the car park to turn as we had seen a sign for Village Centre and thought there might be a cafe there. Realised that Midge Bite was indeed a cafe itself. Turned out it was perfect. Lovely leek & potato soup, egg sandwich with proper bread, coffee really good and a thick slice of fruit loaf. Would be sure to be ready for a spot of lunch if we are in the area again.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The good: friendly staff, good selection of food, good quality, clean toilet, plenty of parking. The bad: uncomfortable chairs, can be quite busy and the place is small, very loud banging noise from the person in charge of the coffee making, fruit juice was about 80% ice (I normally say "no ice", but didn't expect this to be a thing in Scotland in winter). The ugly: as someone who is allergic to dogs I find it more and more difficult to go out for a meal, as everywhere is now dog friendly. I know the pressure from the dog lobby is enormous, and they leave bad reviews if you don't allow dogs into a business. But if you have a sign on your door saying "guide dogs only", then you should enforce this. Or if you do want to allow all dogs, then remove the sign from your door. As we had already ordered and were waiting for our food, we could not get up and leave when that large black dog came in. And it wasn't the sort of food we could have eaten in the car anyway. I felt unwell for several hours after our visit, which pretty much ruined our afternoon. So please make it clear what your dog policy is, and then people with allergies can avoid going inside your cafe.

Open through winter and a very welcome stop. What a delicious lunch and such a treat. To go somewhere and when I mention my allergies (gluten and egg) they are knowledgeable and so accommodating, whatever we can get for you. The special for the day was pea and beetroot falafels. I asked if I could have it with salad, and what a delight when I got this delicious dish, with crisps instead of bread or wrap. These are the most delicious falafels I’ve ever tasted,(but I’ve not been to Morocco) so light warm and tasty, beautifully spiced. Delicious salad as well and the whole dish was vegan as a bonus but not an issue. I thank you and will be back again. The cake selection looked wonderful but I don’t have a sweet tooth.
