Hidden gem in St Ives, owners are lovely as is the food! I had the Cancun Burrito which was a good portion and tasted unreal. Would definitely return

We used to visit the Mex pre COVID and finally got to go back recently during a family holiday. We had the advantage of being child free as the in-laws baby sat. If anything the food has got better since our last visit. A real taste of Mexico served with a friendly face and relaxed atmosphere. The fajitas were amazing as always and burrito was packed full of flavour. Cannot recommend enough

The diner was super!! My wife has a gluten and dairy intolerance, but this was not a problem for the chef. We' ve had a fantastic diner and the service was very friendly. Thanks

We love to visit this restaurant, the food is great and it always has the best atmosphere! Lovely host who was so sweet and attentive to our daughter. We always try and get a visit in but it does book up fast.

Our favourite place in all the years we have been coming

Tasty food. Really welcoming and a cosy atmosphere. They helped my 11 year old choose the right dish. We had four different dishes and we enjoyed them all. Would highly recommend.

Simply the best Mexican we’ve ever visited. We’ve eaten here many times and never, ever been disappointed. In fact this year the waitress recognised us from 12 months previous. There’s no point rattling on about which dishes to choose as we’ve never had a bad one, ever. If you are holidaying in St Ives then it’s advisable to book via phone no longer than 4 weeks ahead. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

This restaurant is brilliant. The waiting staff was extremely polite and helpful one of the best waiters I have had in a while. The nachos were slightly average but we had three different burritos between three of us and they were all delicious! The restaurant was also extremely reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this restaurant when visiting st ives or if you live nearby. More information- Make sure to book in advance as we arrived at 5:30 we didn't need to but there was only 5 tables and people without bookings were turned away by six. The restaurant is also not vegan friendly as only one starter is and zero mains are. The restaurant is however vegetarian friendly.

We went in as it opened, and they gave us a table that was reserved a little later in the evening. But after that they had to turn away lots of people who didn't have bookings. The meal itself was fantastic, really tasty, good value and our server was lovely.

Very cosy and small but not overcrowded. Staff efficient and helpful food excellent

Fitted us in at last minute, food arrived really quickly, was sizzling hot and was lovely. Would def go again but this time I would phone and make a reservation as it looks like they are busy and for good reason.

Dropped in, unbooked, manager checked carefully before accepting us. Glad she let us in, the food was lovely, drinks were great, service swift and polite. Some other visitors turned away as they had no booking, and the place was soon full with booked guests. Would recommend, and visit again!

Excellent food, possibly the best in St Ives. You do need to book, they only have a limited amount of covers per evening.

Great mexican food and personable host - both of which come 2nd only to the outstanding margheritas! Portions were very generous and offered authentic flavours - our favourite were the burritos. Overall good value and would definitely recommend if you’re in St Ives and wanting a change from fish and chips!

The food and service were excellent. Good variety. The food isn't particularly spicy but they include a hot sauce which can be added. Cool decor adds to the atmosphere.

We had a fabulous meal! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The lady who served us was so friendly and great with our two children- that makes such a difference as a parent. Both boys really enjoyed their meal out and we did too! Highly recommend. We'll be back next time we're in St Ives!

Really delicious Mexican cuisine. The bright and vibrant decor makes you feel like you’re in Mexico. Couldn’t fault the food, the chefs clearly take a lot of pride in what they make. Waitress was lovely. Really great evening, would definitely return if in St Ives for a unique experience.

I am not local and come a few times a year and tex mex has my heart. Everytime I come down I come here for a dinner and this joint never disappoints! The waitress is lovely, friendly, chatty and knowledgable. The food is so flavourful, very good portions and very affordable. I cannot fault this restaurant and despite the small joint they always manage to fit us in, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. If I could take a grande cancun burrito back to London I would every single time I come to st Ives.

We have never been to a Mexican restaurant before on holiday in St Ives this week we could not fault the food and service excellent and excellent value for money

We always visit here when in St Ives. A small menu but this means that the dishes are all superb. Nacos to start, none of your tortilla chips sprinkled with cheese and a dollop of sour cream on top, these were properly done. Taco sauce, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, all nicely baked in and throughout the chips. Then we both had the Burrito Supremo. Their big chilli filled burrito was lovely and soft. Nice cheese tasting cheese on top, accompanied by moist Mexican rice. What’s not to like? Friendly service too.

What a sweet lovely restaurant. Ate here last night early as was going to the cinema. The lovely couple were friendly and attentive. My food was beautifully presented, hot and delicious. I was the only person in but I sat at the window and it didn't feel quiet as music was playing. Had a great chat with the couple and they made me feel very special and welcome. A lovely little gem in the heart of St Ives. Would definitely recommend and come again. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Lovely unpretentious little Mexican cafe. Their all homed cooked food was exemplary, and very reasonably priced; and the service friendly and attentive. Going there was one of the highlights of our short winter break. Shame it can't be closer to where we live.

Visit here about once a year and it always delivers! Great portion sizes, well priced but most importantly quality tasty food. Booking recommended as it's a small restaurant. Burritos are highly recommended. Located bang in the centre of town too. Nothing to fault here.

Another super meal and service. Seafood fajita really sizzling, Mexican garlic bread brilliant and huge meat quesadilla. Closes around 8pm during winter but really worth a visit. Good value and highly recommended.

Amazing food. A lovely staff. The lady who was serving us was so polite and smily, gave us a good mood for the rest of the day. The Sheff made tasty dishes in Mexican style 😋 👌 Go and try something new. Even with so small space inside, you would never believe that there is so tasty food and a warm atmosphere.

Had such a great evening with family and everyone enjoyed their food, lovely little authentic restaurant with a nice relaxed friendly atmosphere. Great food including fish tacos on the special menu, and sizzling steak fajitas, ribs, nachos and finished with churros. They also serve lovely margaritas!!! Definitely worth a visit.

I had Seafood fijitas and it was really delicious. It was the most delicious food I had in England. The staff is so friendly and I want to come back to Cornwall because of this restaurant.

I always visit this restaurant when in St Ives, to me, it’s perfect! Everything you could possibly wish for in a restaurant the Mex delivers. The food is fresh and truly delicious, actually mouthwatering, service attentive and extremely friendly, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. We have started visiting twice each holiday, think it’s going to be upped to 3 as nothing else comes close. If you like Mexican food (surely everyone likes at least fajitas?) this is an absolute must so book yourself in and enjoy. Thank you Mex, we love our visits and will definitely be back next holiday.

We booked a couple of weeks before our holiday to be sure to have a table. So glad we did as we saw so many people turned away as they were fully booked. Service was very efficient and friendly. A nice relaxed atmosphere too. Will definitely book again.

The food tasted great and everybody enjoyed their meals. The drinks were also good with Mexican sodas. I had the bean burrito which tasted delicious. We finished with churros which were great too. We'll worth a visit. Have a jalapeño day.

Lovely welcome and a great evening eating a delicious, generous meal - the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed meal with Mexican music made for a perfect ambience. Reasonably priced, definitely need to book and a real hidden gem in st ives. We felt really looked after and never rushed even when we were the only ones left! You won’t leave hungry! Looking forward to returning again.

Amazing! Beautifully well presented, fresh and authentic food. Reasonably priced with the loveliest staff ! Highlight was the special of fish tacos which was incredible.

Absolutely brilliant, the specials they had on were amazing, starters were also brilliant as well. Honestly our bill was about £40 and we paid a £10 tip on top for the service and the food coming out so quick!!! The only complaint I would have is that it’s on a busy street so with the door open it can be loud and ruin some of the atmosphere BUT that’s not the restaurants fault, also make sure you call in and book because tables go fast!! In Cornwall all week and this was the best meal out of the lot! Highly recommend for couples/families/anyone who enjoys good food!!

We tried booking online and said just walk in so we did, when we arrived we were instantly turned away as they were "fully booked" but there were 3 tables free. A family of four left and we tried again and turned away again which was surprising.

We had a great meal at this restaurant - we had nachos then burritos, both courses were delicious and very generous portions. The service was great, very friendly and welcoming. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. Just a small restaurant, so booking is recommended, but the overall meal and atmosphere were well worth it, we'll definitely go back.

I went here with my husband. Our meals were delicious. We only had main courses and that gave us was plenty of food. The restaurant was cozy but wasn't too crowded at the time. Friendly service too.

On the way back to our hotel we happened to pass this Mexican restaurant and reserved a table for the following day. We had a small starter mix, enchiladas and burritos, with Corona beer, margaritas as an aperitif, and tequilas as a digestif. The service was very friendly and attentive, we enjoyed the food, very authentic in my opinion and the colorful ambience is perfect for a Mexican restaurant. I strongly recommend reservations as this is a small restaurant with a few tables, all of which were occupied. There is no outside area. The price/performance ratio is excellent. This is our 5th time dining at The Mex. Always enjoy the food and drinks. The margarita is especially delicious 😋 The staff are always so lovely and friendly. A great find for authentic Mexican food in an intimate setting. I highly recommend. As always will be back next year on our next trip to St Ives.

We were very lucky to get a table (definitely book ahead). The staff were warm and welcoming (the owner had to deal with a particularly difficult customer and handled it really well). The food was excellent!

Amazing food, great server and great Margheritas

This is not mexican food. Nothing tasted bad. But nothing tasted good. The veggie burrito was literally just baked beans inside the tortilla covered in sauce and cheese. That's an enchilada. The chips that came with the guacamole were oddly covered in spices and were not crispy. The churros tasted like they were the frozen ones from Tesco.

We visited a few months ago The restaurant was very empty however we were told they won’t be able to accommodate us as they are fully booked We were told we can alternatively order so we did. We came to collect the food around 40 minutes later. The food was absolutely delicious and hot. I would definitely recommend, but it would be nicer to sit in. Especially because when we came back in to collect the food the restaurant was still very empty.
