Great place for a chill, food is lovely and local discount card on offer

The guys in the surf hire shop were great when my leash snapped when out surfing. I was able to borrow one from the shop, which I returned after my surf session. Hats off guys.

We held a private event on the beach and the staff were fabulous. The food was amazing, well cooked and so tasty. The service was quick too, especially considering how busy the beach was. We have nothing but praise for the team, they go above and beyond to ensure the customers are happy. Beautiful setting, fabulous venue (both the cafe and the bar) and excellent food. Highly recommended, whether it's for an event, a good meal or just a chilled drink on the beach.

Shocked to see under 50 reviews! The food in this place is amazing!!!! The fries are to die for, the tuna toastie I had was the best toastie I’ve ever had, the chicken parmi was 10/10, had iced coffee and a normal hot latte, amazing. The service super friendly and speedy too, didn’t wait long at all. We’re not local so super gutted we won’t be back here any time soon, but if we were we’d be there weekly!

Had a lovely weekend in Newquay shared with over 100 friends with this cafe! Most bought drinks and or food from the cafe. The staff create a warm friendly atmosphere. Food served with smiles and efficiently. Ate in and out.

Amazing beachfront bar with superb views offering a range of beverages, including beer on tap and good selection of snacks and light meals at reasonable prices.

We ordered 2 cappuccinos (which tasted 10/10) and later two lemonades which were “created” by the server - he was so friendly and fun, informing me he didn’t have sprite but he could make us one with limes and sparkling water! It tasted great and we had great banter. The mood is really good in there with a lovely decor. The sea view is fantastic and we can’t wait to go back and try the food there. They have an excellent choice of vegan and vegetarian food. We recommend!

We found this lovely place to be a great bar / venue for relaxing with drinks and to enjoy the view. The manager ‘pip’ was very accommodating and welcoming. Definitely recommend this place. 😎

Brilliant - beautiful place to come and chill - especially on a summers day/evening. Really lovely and friendly staff who are welcoming and very helpful. We enjoyed visiting yesterday afternoon and will be back again.

Great cafe with fantastic views.

During a short visit to Newquay, I visited the Surf Cafe along with my girlfriend. First of all, I really liked the Offshore Pilsner lager. Secondly, Pip, Maddie and the team are a very friendly group who deliver great customer service. Despite the current cost of living crisis, I hope the Surf Cafe is still going strong in a few years time because we hope to pay a visit when we hopefully come down to Newquay again. Thank you for taking the time for us and making us feel welcome!

We stopped here for some lunch after a surf lesson and really enjoyed it. Food was lovely, staff were friendly, and the view is amazing. Nice selection of food on the menu and lots to choose from.

Called in after a day on the beach, after seeing the table photographed with drinks outside. We had already changed and managed to remove most of the sand off and looking to relax before heading back to the nicer party of Newquay. Bleached blonde barman, initially had his back to the bar, turned saw me, wandered up and down the bar, looked at some wine glasses, went over to the pass looked at a ticket, chatted to the cook, came back, said it was table service and would be a while, and that there was a bar on the beach. Explained that we'd headed up from there and freshened up, he had the expression of a dog shown a card trick. As I sat writing this review, a gentleman came out with another pint... We were considering dining here, at least once on the week we're here. Wouldn't bother with such poor front of house and customer service for a drink. The other female staff seemed to be doing the lioness' share of the work, on a quiet Saturday. I've seen the replies the owner gives, so I'm not expecting any contrition.

Had the BBQ beef loaded fries and they were amazing the swrvice was first class the lady who served us was so friendly and kind made the whole experience for us better. Can not think of a nicer way to sit and have my 40th birthday lunch on my favorite beach.

We were staying at the beach and its great to have a bar and some tastey food close. Yes its a bit pricey but you would expect that from a beach side cafe. I had the loaded katsu curry fries for 7.50, super tastey. The beer was great to, 5.50 for a pint.

What’s not to like, sea, sand, surf and then chill out in a lovely cafe with great food, drink and really friendly staff and excellent service. A great way to relax and forget about the stresses of life!

Best meal we had in Newquay. Fresh flavours, very well presented and service with a smile. Bit of a hiddem gem, away from the high street. Highly recommended!

Really lovely meal here last week..fabulous location on the beach. Good choice of food, particularly vegetarian and vegan. (Meals for meat eaters too). Service was excellent. All together a very pleasant evening.. I recommend you try it.

Avoid. Don’t book, don’t go. I pre-booked this place before our holiday to Newquay online. Sadly, a member of our party tested positive for COVID and therefore our trip was cancelled. I attempted to contact GWSC via phone and email multiple times on the afternoon of our booking (in hope they could release our table to other customers - as they make very clear through other reviews and their ‘booking policy’, that they’re very busy). Strangely enough, they never answered the phone. The number, advertised both on their booking policy and website. Nor did they respond to my email. Their online booking system also did not allow me to ‘cancel’ my booking, as it was within 24 hours notice. I then receive an automated email the next day telling me they have taken £60 from my card that I booked with, as we failed to show. I respond with Evidence showing my attempts to contact and explained our situation. I receive a response, from the owner, David. Telling me that I agreed to the T&C’s when booking, and that nothing further could be done. I proceed to inform GWSC that we are LEGALLY unable to attend this booking and we would in fact, be breaking the LAW by attending. Again, I tried to contact multiple times via phone to explain this - but oddly - no response. I would advise anyone to avoid this establishment. Clearly there’s no consumer compassion in such challenging times, there’s no desire to have answered my communication on cancelling - which just makes me wonder if they gave my table away, and pocketed the cancellation fee as extra profit? Real shame, don’t spend your money with people like this. There’s plenty of other places struggling to recover from the pandemic who would appreciate your custom a lot more. Hopefully we will find a resolution to this matter soon.

Disappointing experience. My friends and I booked to go here whilst we were down in Cornwall and unfortunately were told to isolate so could no longer make the booking. We called multiple times in the morning in attempt to cancel, to no answer. We also emailed multiple times, also with no answer, and were still charged a £10pp no show fee. Considering it would have been illegal for us to attend the booking AND we made multiple efforts to cancel the booking this charge is disappointing and unfair. Since speaking to the business about this issue we have received no compassion or understanding.

Awful experience. We had a reservation for 5pm, but at 4am that day we received an NHS track and trace notification that we had to self isolate due to being in close contact with someone who was positive for Covid-19. Despite calling many times (before 12pm as stated on their website) and emailing, we had no response. Then a week later we were charged £30 for being no-shows. However, it would have been illegal for us to have turned up for our reservation. This is completely unfair and against public health advice. If you’re thinking of visiting here, don’t! Remember you could get a notification like ours at any time and you will be charged £10 (or £20 as per t&cs) per person despite following government rules and have no control over the matter. Edit: Reply to this calls the review 'incorrect' which is untrue. We tried to honour our booking but we were told to self-isolate by the NHS. Tried to call over 30 times (see photo for one time where i called 23 times). So no, definitely not incorrect!

Vegan/veggie place with a few dishes on the menu for the meat eaters. The food,drinks, service was all top notch. Absolutely loved every minute of our visit here and will definitely go again next time we are in Newquay.

yeah you have to book online, and cancel on line but so what, its worth it. one veggie, two vegans and a meat eater, all catered for. great views when the sun is out, its like being abroad. loved the food, staff nice, all clean. would totally recommend.

Very poor experience with Great Western Surf Cafe. We had booked a table for quite a few people, but unfortunately could not make the trip at all due to some people catching Covid-19. We called the establishment about 100 times both on the day we meant to go there, but also on previous days. They never answered our calls for the cancellation, but still charged us an amount for the booking. When we enquired why they did so, they had the audacity to tell us we did not inform them we would not be coming. Would not choose to go there again.

The Buddha bowls and tacos are amazing. Lovely food and good service. Would definitely go again.

We had a great time, staff were friendly and the food and drinks were yummy. I enjoyed their fish taco and the sea view was beautiful.
