A great local venue with everything on offer and lots of zone spaces.

We live outside Manchester but come up quite a lot to watch football. The Metropolitan was always a favourite but over recent years, with management changes, standards had slipped. I'm glad to say we had an excellent visit yesterday. A great Sunday lunch and very attentive & friendly staff (Shannon was our server at lunch). Encouraging. And they have even fixed the boiler : )

I had a disappointing experience at lunchtime today. The wait for food was long and we were not informed, which I would not have minded as the establishment was clearly very busy if the service had been better. Two of the three meals ordered were delivered together but without cutlery or acknowledgement from the staff. The wait to get served was so long that my family ended up eating without cutlery. All the while my food was still not delivered. I had to chase it up at the bar for it to be brought after everyone else had finished eating. Cutlery was also brought after we had finished eating and I had waited at the bar to request it. There was no offer of sauces either and not enough napkins for everyone. Additionally, my pizza was brought out cold on one side and hot on the other and had gone hard after clearly being left under the pass for too long. The loaded fries also appeared pretty scarce of toppings. After waiting at the bar for a relatively long time just to politely ask for cutlery and to ask where the meal I paid for was I wasn't met with much hospitality either, although my server did very quickly address the problem after it was brought to her. 1/5⭐

We love coming to the Met. Lovely family atmosphere, amazing service. Can't fault it in any way. Baby friendly too which is great. Amazing food choices. Sarah's service in particular is impeccable everytime.

Really enjoyed my evening with friends to celebrate our birthdays. Staff brilliant and attentive. Food delicious and at a good price. Will definitely visit again.

Had a very nice Sunday lunch here and excellent, considerate service from Hannah.

I ordered the Gammon steak, which i cannot recommend, it was far too salty, inedible in fact, i mentioned twice to the waitress who did nothing and offered no solution or recompence, hence 3* for food and service and no tip. We were a party of 6 and everyone else was happy with their choices. Including 1 in the group who also had gammon and said his was ok. Pub had a quiz night on which looked good fun and was full inside.

We were there few weeks ago with the kids in the outside area, there were only 1 table ( waiters and someone in charge/owner?). They asked the kids few times to shut up and did few disgusting comments. When we were leaving the said: “finally”. Very unpleasant, specially coming from the staff. It surprise me how we tolerate people shouting drunk in a close place like this restaurant but no kids playing in outside area with no people around.

Great food, bottomless Yorkshires and roast potatoes is a game changer. Great service from Shannon.

Few weeks ago I went to Metropolitan with a friend and our children for a coffee while waiting for our partners. We had planned to have dinner there altogether. We sat at the area next to the pizza place. The area was almost empty just our table and another one with a group of people. The people sat on the other table started to shushed almost since the very moment we arrived. At the beginning my friend and I thought it was a kind of joke between them and not something towards us, as you expect that between adults if you have a problem you will come closer and address and explaining the issue, instead of using this kind of passive aggressive behaviour. The shushes carried on for a while until one person of that table shouted “shut up”. At that point, although my husband had just joined for dinner, we decided to leave. I was very upset, as metropolitan was a pub I used to go very often. For that reason I recognised that some of the people who sat on that table were indeed workers of the pub. We meant to leave the place without arguing. However, when we passed close-by them, we heard “it was about time “. According to them it was not time for children to stay there (7 pm at that point) however there is not any rules or policy that says children cannot be there at that time. Besides inside the pub was full of children. For me the whole experience was very inappropriate and unpleasant. Obviously as I said to them it was the first time I was treated like that and the last because I won’t come back there again. And certainly, I will make sure that this experience is well spread and I will retell as many people as possible because to be honest no one deserves to be treated like that and much less by workers of the place.

We had an excellent meal at the Metropolitan, the food was wonderful! The service provided by Shannon was great, she was timely and prompt with the service throughout. The pub has a great atmosphere and would recommend to all!

This pub used to be so good but is going right down. I are there twice in the last few weeks and the quality of the food has collapsed. Really not very good at all. I had sea bass one day, which looked and tasted supermarket bought. I had lamb shank the second time, and it felt dreary and flavourless. All very disappointing. On top of this they have introduced little screens on the bar pillars. Really tacky. Yuck. On it's way back to becoming the Midland again. Still got great outdoor space, but feels like it is sliding downhill.

First visited this huge pub about 50 years ago. Been back a few times. A very wealthy area now, once a home to cheap student digs. Ic and Flic have never been to a bigger pub, even bigger than I remember. Caters for all needs. Six real ales. Multiple rooms. Huge outdoor area, huge conservatory. YV's showing sport. Busy kitchen and a pizza oven outside. Had a lovely pint from Coach House brewery. Ic n Flic had an excellent Provence Rosé.

I had a very pleasant experience here today , food was delicious and the service from our waitress shannon was exceptional, very polite and friendly which made our time here very enjoyable , keen to return after this experience.

Good for large group but definitely book. Our waiter Ry was very good and very patient. If offering water for table it helps to have enough jugs for all the tables.

I visited recently for a wake The venue is lovely, the staff worked hard and were friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the venue was freezing cold and mourners had to sit in their coats. The sandwiches on the buffet had nice fillings but the bread was very dry and tasted stale. Nice chips

My friend and I went for dinner on a Wednesday evening at the Met in Didsbury. Considering it was a week day the atmosphere was very good and it’s a beautiful building that makes you feel at home. We had the ribeye steak which was lovely. The onion rings were amazing! We were served by Ry that evening and he was absolutely great. We had a lovely time with him and he’s a very pleasant server we couldn’t have asked for better. Nothing was too much trouble. Look forward to returning. Thank you.

All in all a great pub for the area. Truly represents the Tory spirit of the neighborhood. It's vast and has so many different areas it feels like an adventure. The beer garden is great and also features a fire pit and numerous heating lamps. Dog friendly and pet friendly too 😎

Great service and atmosphere. Food was OK but I felt ill that night after eating the chicken ceaser salad so I'm not sure on the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Nice indoor and outdoor dining areas, good pub spaces as well. Watchout though, I nearly sat on a broken chair that should have been removed by staff.

Myself and my daughter visited The Metropolitan on Wednesday afternoon for a light bite to eat We were greated at the bar by a shining beacon named Oliver, such a charming young man with a crucial haircut, very attentive and most polite, he brought our drinks over to our table in the restaurant Ryan was our waiter, he handed us our menus and asked if we had any allergies, he is a dashingly good looking young man, all the older ladies swooned over him as he glided past like a swan on a tranquil lake After a few minutes he asked if we were ready to order, we chose a starter and a main, the food was delicious, crisp batter on the haddock and a piping hot lasagne served with cheesy garlic bread. At no time did we feel rushed, there was a delightful atmosphere in the pub, we will definitely be back, and a cheery “ see you later guys” from the unflapable Laurie completed our visit

Fairly standard pub food. The ciabatta consisted of a nice bread and the fish was tasty however there could have been a bit more filling. Chips nicely cooked. Reasonable price Interesting nice building. Very sleek and quick service, though it was a quiet time being early midday lunch.

I hadn't visited in a long while so thought I'd pop in for brunch whilst I was in the area.The decor is still cosy and welcoming, And I found the staff to be friendly and efficient, and didn't have to wait too long at all for my food to arrive. When it came it was well presented and well cooked. Also it was very tasty too. The only minor inconvenience was that the handle on the teacup was impractically small, and I could only pick it up by pinching it between my thumb and pointer finger. So maybe better to consider putting function over form regards the crockery. However that doesn't put me off from visiting again.

Absolutely shambles for a NYE . Keep on counting for customers to come because of the name and service you used to have and one day you have no one else .

Reserved a table for new year. Pre-paid for drinks, which I would have thought would just be in ice buckets waiting. Waited 40 minutes before half of them arrived.We had ordered 6 Heineken 6 Asahi, offered 12 peroni, then offered 12 Birra Morreti, only to be served that in pints, half of which went flat. Had no music at all, nor did they even bother to do a NYE countdown at midnight. Shambles of an establishment. Gets by purely on the fact it’s the largest pub on Burton Road. I won’t be going again. Edit after response: The drinks were paid for before we arrived. The lead booker asked for a refund when told only peroni was available. We were told you could do bottles of moretti instead. 10 minutes later bottles of corona arrived which we sent back which the server was clearly unhappy about. Another 10 minutes later pints arrived and we couldn’t be bothered to complain again and had been waiting the best part of an hour for drinks at this point. Music or count-down definitely could not be heard where we were sat, and numerous people on our side of the bar complained about the poor atmosphere.

Went for NYE. Really slow service behind the bar despite it not being that busy due to the weather. No real atmosphere either, quiet music all night, felt like a typical week night not NYE. Had no clue it was nearly midnight until I checked my phone. Ourselves and a table nearby did an impromptu countdown as the pub didn’t do one itself! Didn’t even feel like it had turned NYE as there was no celebration, nothing at all. Just felt like a regular Tuesday night not NYE. Disappointing and would have rather stayed at home.

Restaurant is extremely disappointing compared to previous visits. Would definitely not recommend. Waited more than an hour for food, menu is just basic pub grub (at higher prices). Ambience with open fires is still good

Hannah was a star this evening. We were late for our table but we managed to book for a little bit later. Front of house says they'd come to get us if a table came up earlier which it did. Hannah was so attentive and quick, even apologising for the food wait which considering we were late to start with was really good of her. I've worked in customer facing roles and I know how hard and stressful it can be especially during the holidays so massive thanks are due to the staff that were kind and patient with us this evening. It's my local and I always bring family here so I'll definitely be back soon!

Came here on 23rd Dec. Always had decent experiences in the past but unfortunately on this occasion felt largely forgotten about by the staff. The staff were pleasant, but after being seated we waited 20 minutes before having our drinks order taken and this only occured after we prompted a member of staff. The food was OK but really not reflective of the price, nor was the overall hospitality. Will probably avoid in future for food now unfortunately.

New edit: (I think since there has been a change of management?) I've been in twice recently and been a little underwhelmed unfortunately. Firstly just for drinks a couple of months back where the lady on the bar was not very friendly and then this evening for a meal where the service was very slow and despite the food being good we unfortunately didn't feel very well looked after, considering the price point. Edit: came again today for a birthday meal with 12 friends and we had a fab time! The food was amazing and Rebecca was fabulous, give her a raise! When we arrived, it wasn’t clear why every table seemed to be marked as reserved from 12-7pm, especially when it was already 12:45 and most of the tables were empty. We did laugh out of confusion, not at the team member, because the policy seemed so rigid and unwelcoming. We questioned why every table needed to be pre-booked, and instead of addressing our confusion constructively, your staff's response came across as dismissive and confrontational. It didn’t feel like we were offered any real options for seating, and the situation escalated unnecessarily. While I understand Sundays are busy, a better balance between reservations and walk-ins might make for a more inclusive experience. I appreciate your suggestion to pre-book, but as a local pub, I would have expected a more welcoming approach to casual visitors. Thanks,

Breakfast with Santa was brilliant. Well organised, lovely atmosphere, good choices for breakfast and the Santa/elves were great. Will definitely be back next time.

I visited The Metropolitan in West Didsbury on a Sunday, hoping to enjoy a quiet pint, but was extremely disappointed. Every table in the pub was booked from 12-7pm, leaving no space for walk-ins or casual visitors. It felt more like a restaurant than a welcoming local pub. To make matters worse, the attitude of the staff, including the manager, was rude and unhelpful. Instead of trying to accommodate guests, they seemed more focused on enforcing the bookings policy, which came across as a way to make their day easier rather than actually serving customers. It’s a shame that a place with such potential doesn’t balance reservations with creating a welcoming environment for those just looking to enjoy a drink without a reservation. I won’t be returning anytime soon.

1/5 Stars I had a disappointing experience at The Metropolitan in Didsbury. The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful, which really ruined the atmosphere. To make matters worse, every single table was apparently “booked” from 12-7, leaving us unable to get a seat despite the place being half-empty at times. It felt like they had no interest in accommodating walk-in customers. Definitely won’t be coming back anytime soon.

An alright roast. The mains were good - recommend the veggie wellington. The yorkshires were good too and the unlimited yorkshires and potatoes. The vegetables were a bit hard though and undercooked. Overall it was a good roast but did not blow me away with the high price. The service was really good 😊

Great pub, Sunday roast was excellent. Got the trio roast, recommended by our amazing waitress, Hannah. Service was incredible and Hannah was super helpful! Sticky toffee pudding was great.

Lovely pub with attention to detail for the ambience and service. Had a very Christmassy feeling and was lovely and cosy inside. My only criticism is when charging £16 for fish and chips I would have expected nicer chips. They were on par with a well known supermarket own brand oven chips so a bit disappointing. Other than that everything tickety boo 👍🏼

I had a fantastic birthday celebration at the Metropolitan. Honor was extremely helpful and managed to move my booking to indoors, where it would be warmer. It was a super busy Saturday evening and Hannah was also on hand when we arrived to prepare the space and get our booking ready for us. Highly recommend this place and the staff were so helpful. Great atmosphere and really christmassy too! Thanks again guys and please pass on my thanks to Honor and Hannah.

Fantastic Sunday lunch last weekend! Huge pub with big outdoor seating area. Great service from Ry our waiter and the other staff were brilliant too. Will definitely be visiting again on future trips to Manchester!

I didn't eat here however there are many beers to choose from. An enormous building with plenty of seating and great decor.

Packed local pub. Only had a swift pint, but would go back.

Fantastic local pub. Again visited on a whim with friends. From the moment we walked through the door the welcome was phenomenal. The lady who looked after us just knew how to do her job so well. The place itself has lots of area to sit and it just felt like being at home. I had the gammon which was salty and delicious and served with a quarter of a pineapple. Really excellent food and service.

Revisited the pub yesterday after 30 years away. Wow. Well done. Wish I still lived on Perrygate avenue! West Didsbury forever!

Great place to chilling with your friends...

This evening, we visited this establishment for a pleasant dinner, and we had a great experience. The interior atmosphere was quite elegant and relaxing. The option to sit outside was a nice touch; we enjoyed a peaceful and serene environment in the outdoor seating area. Although the menu didn’t have too many options, the dishes we tried exceeded our expectations in terms of flavor. The food was fresh and carefully prepared. The quality and presentation of the main courses were particularly impressive. There was also a variety of beers available, and I can say they were very fresh, served cold and delicious. We experienced a few minor issues with the service; the orders took a bit longer to arrive, and a few small details were missed. However, the staff was polite and attentive, which positively impacted our overall experience. I would also like to mention that the prices were quite reasonable for the quality, offering a good balance of value for both the food and the atmosphere. In conclusion, we had a lovely evening with delicious food and a peaceful atmosphere. With a few more menu options, this place could be even more perfect. I definitely recommend it!

Response : As I'm sure you're already aware, the prompt for tipping comes up whenever you make a card payment. This is the practice that you are kindly suggested to stop. I want to give this place a higher rating however I must protest against their practice of asking for tips on every transaction. This practice is encroaching in to British culture and it should be stopped. Not only is it rude it also suggests that the pub owners are not paying their hard working employees a fair hourly rate. They are essentially forcing these poor individuals to make up their salaries by depending on the good will of their customers.

A friend and myself visited Fri 20th Sept. Received a warm and friendly welcome. Its a great place that welcomes all ages.

Queue to be served at side of bar. Have to walk round bar to other side to make order. Staff are incapable of pouring a Guinness without it over flowing. Beer choice is standard. Got rid of the premium beer choices. Ask for a tip when you order. Hand driers are out of action. Living of location and past glory.

Triple roast was warm, only small amount of veg and 3 small slices of meat. Roasties had gone hard and maybe reheated. Little amount of watery gravy and when asked for more, I was told it was a charge. Lamb shank was a hit with great gravy, so were the deserts real tasty. Tables and bar need a good wipe down, all surfaces were sticky, even after being wiped. No cutlery or napkins on the table so we had to wait. Staff are 100% genuinely friendly and helpful. Wouldn't pay £17 for that roast though.

Oh what a disappointment. We’ve been coming to the Metropolitan on and off for years but this time the Sunday lunch was really mediocre. On the positive side, the interior is still lovely with lots of interesting bits and pieces to look at and of course beautiful rooms. The staff were also lovely. The food however was very poor. The Sunday lunch arrived at the same time as a starter which was a bit odd. The whole roast dinner was fairly tasteless and massively under seasoned. The meat (turkey) was fine but the roast potatoes were tasteless and the exterior had that slightly rubbery outer layer that often signals they’ve been re-heated. The mash was similarly tasteless and as for the quarter of a carrot! The Yorkshire pudding followed the trend for massive size but zero taste and the gravy, which one would hope would cheer everything up was also very bland. We did wonder if the emptiness of the room at 1pm on a rainy Sunday was an indication that people have realised it’s really not up to scratch. So many places do excellent and good value Sunday lunch nowadays that you really need to up your game. We left without having a dessert to avoid further disappointment.

I recently visited The Metropolitan Pub on a Tuesday afternoon and had a wonderful experience. The service was absolutely top-notch, thanks to Scarlet, our server, who was friendly, attentive, and ensured we had everything we needed. She really made us feel welcome and added to the overall atmosphere of the afternoon. The food was also great! The menu offered a nice variety, and everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. Whether you're in the mood for a casual bite or a hearty meal, this place has you covered. I highly recommend The Metropolitan Pub for a relaxed visit with great service and good food!

So Today In Manchester The Weather Has Been Weathering Raining. And I Fancied Pie & Mash For Lunch So I Decided To Visit The Metropolitan In West Didsbury. Without a doubt I ordered the Beef & Venison Pie it’s came with creamy chive mashed potatoes roasted carrots parsnips cabbage & tenderstem broccoli, with a miniature gravy boat. The Pie Was Divine The Pastry As Faultless the filling was meaty & juicy and wasn’t sparing with vegetables were to perfection & the mash potatoes was nice & creamy. The Hostess Scarlet was amazing & very attentive as I was dining for 1. I would recommend this place for nice hearty comforting food just what I was so after today
