Revisited the pub yesterday after 30 years away. Wow. Well done. Wish I still lived on Perrygate avenue! West Didsbury forever!

This evening, we visited this establishment for a pleasant dinner, and we had a great experience. The interior atmosphere was quite elegant and relaxing. The option to sit outside was a nice touch; we enjoyed a peaceful and serene environment in the outdoor seating area. Although the menu didn’t have too many options, the dishes we tried exceeded our expectations in terms of flavor. The food was fresh and carefully prepared. The quality and presentation of the main courses were particularly impressive. There was also a variety of beers available, and I can say they were very fresh, served cold and delicious. We experienced a few minor issues with the service; the orders took a bit longer to arrive, and a few small details were missed. However, the staff was polite and attentive, which positively impacted our overall experience. I would also like to mention that the prices were quite reasonable for the quality, offering a good balance of value for both the food and the atmosphere. In conclusion, we had a lovely evening with delicious food and a peaceful atmosphere. With a few more menu options, this place could be even more perfect. I definitely recommend it!

Great find! Sundays roasts are spot on! Great choice of cask ale and well poured too. Definitely coming back and highly recommend.

Response : As I'm sure you're already aware, the prompt for tipping comes up whenever you make a card payment. This is the practice that you are kindly suggested to stop. I want to give this place a higher rating however I must protest against their practice of asking for tips on every transaction. This practice is encroaching in to British culture and it should be stopped. Not only is it rude it also suggests that the pub owners are not paying their hard working employees a fair hourly rate. They are essentially forcing these poor individuals to make up their salaries by depending on the good will of their customers.

A friend and myself visited Fri 20th Sept. Received a warm and friendly welcome. Its a great place that welcomes all ages.

Queue to be served at side of bar. Have to walk round bar to other side to make order. Staff are incapable of pouring a Guinness without it over flowing. Beer choice is standard. Got rid of the premium beer choices. Ask for a tip when you order. Hand driers are out of action. Living of location and past glory.

Oh what a disappointment. We’ve been coming to the Metropolitan on and off for years but this time the Sunday lunch was really mediocre. On the positive side, the interior is still lovely with lots of interesting bits and pieces to look at and of course beautiful rooms. The staff were also lovely. The food however was very poor. The Sunday lunch arrived at the same time as a starter which was a bit odd. The whole roast dinner was fairly tasteless and massively under seasoned. The meat (turkey) was fine but the roast potatoes were tasteless and the exterior had that slightly rubbery outer layer that often signals they’ve been re-heated. The mash was similarly tasteless and as for the quarter of a carrot! The Yorkshire pudding followed the trend for massive size but zero taste and the gravy, which one would hope would cheer everything up was also very bland. We did wonder if the emptiness of the room at 1pm on a rainy Sunday was an indication that people have realised it’s really not up to scratch. So many places do excellent and good value Sunday lunch nowadays that you really need to up your game. We left without having a dessert to avoid further disappointment.

Triple roast was warm, only small amount of veg and 3 small slices of meat. Roasties had gone hard and maybe reheated. Little amount of watery gravy and when asked for more, I was told it was a charge. Lamb shank was a hit with great gravy, so were the deserts real tasty. Tables and bar need a good wipe down, all surfaces were sticky, even after being wiped. No cutlery or napkins on the table so we had to wait. Staff are 100% genuinely friendly and helpful. Wouldn't pay £17 for that roast though.

I recently visited The Metropolitan Pub on a Tuesday afternoon and had a wonderful experience. The service was absolutely top-notch, thanks to Scarlet, our server, who was friendly, attentive, and ensured we had everything we needed. She really made us feel welcome and added to the overall atmosphere of the afternoon. The food was also great! The menu offered a nice variety, and everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. So Today In Manchester The Weather Has Been Weathering Raining. And I Fancied Pie & Mash For Lunch So I Decided To Visit The Metropolitan In West Didsbury. Without a doubt I ordered the Beef & Venison Pie it’s came with creamy chive mashed potatoes roasted carrots parsnips cabbage & tenderstem broccoli, with a miniature gravy boat. The Pie Was Divine The Pastry As Faultless the filling was meaty & juicy and wasn’t sparing with vegetables were to perfection & the mash potatoes was nice & creamy. The Hostess Scarlet was amazing & very attentive as I was dining for 1. I would recommend this place for nice hearty comforting food just what I was so after today

We had a lovely Sunday dinner at the Metropolitan this evening. Our waiter, Pedram looked after us exceptionally well, especially our toddler who was being a bit of a handful!

We booked a table at 14.15pm for my Aunty’s birthday/retirement. The food was hot, tasty and I ate everything on the plate. The waiters Jess was great! Good customer service, polite, friendly, attentive. What more could I ask for! See you again soon Jess ☺️

We’ve always enjoyed dining here, especially for the fresh, made-to-order pizzas and the fantastic atmosphere. The outdoor seating is one of the best around—it’s a lovely, picturesque spot to enjoy a meal. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, which adds to the overall experience. However, our recent visit for the Sunday roast was a major disappointment. The roast was incredibly bland, with the only noticeable flavor coming from the gravy. The pork option came with just a sliver of crackling, and the roast potatoes were barely roasted at all. While the lamb shank was cooked perfectly, it was still lacking in flavour. At £16-18 per person, the roast just isn’t worth it. We’ll stick to the pizza next time.

Lovely place with indoor and outdoor seating. Been many times. Always good food. 4 of us went today for lunch. Everybody enjoyed their food and the surroundings. Hannah was our waiter. Very friendly, efficient and we all felt at ease with her. In fact her service was impeccable. Can't fault anything. Will be back soon.

Just back from a lovely meal, the new menu leaves you spoilt for choice and food was great quality… especially the sausages and sticky toffee sponge. The service from Hannah was exceptional and the stand out, it really elevated our experience. Thank you Hannah!

The service was excellent, Louise was welcoming, friendly and attentive to our needs. The food was tasty, lovely fresh salad. The pub is spacious and beautifully cool on a very hot day, a welcome respite from the heat, but equally there is lots of sunny space too for those who like to sit outside or in the conservatory.

bar staff sometimes rude, table numbers always changing and staff don't know where you are, foods good though and theres a nice outdoor area

Visited for my sister's birthday and the service was excellent! Lewis was our waiter and he was very lovely and put a candle in my sister's dessert which made the trip extra special. We had the Sunday dinner and it was one of the best we've had in Didsbury

Really enjoyable place for late afternoon Sunday roast. I dined on my own and was made to feel very welcome. A nice buzzy atmosphere.

We visited on Tuesday just for a coffee. I used to use this establishment 50yrs ago when I was nursing at Withington hospital. It was called the Midland Hotel then. My granddaughter and myself called in for coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful.We found the pub very clean and inviting. My granddaughter actually said the toilets were the best she's been in for a good while. It was a blast from the past and a very nice one. Great to see the Metropolitan inviting and pleasant. Thank you.

The food was much better a couple of months ago. There is only one salad on the menu. Hearty food is not really appropriate in summer. The floor round the bar was sticky from a beer spill and the toilets smelly and well below par! Overall a disappointing experience

My friend booked a table a week before outside to celebrate her birthday and watch the euro finals. She was told the £80 deposit we collectively paid would go towards a bar tab for food/drinks. When dropping the cake off that morning staff said they had no confirmation of her booking or deposit. My friend showed the receipt of the booking and they said they'll sort it for the evening. We arrived and they clearly weren't prepared for our reservation, the staff said that they could see the booking was made for outside but 'they didn't know what happened'. It was only with my friend standing her ground that we should have a table that we got sat inside. The bar staff then claimed they had no idea the bar tab went towards food/drink, and again my friend had to show them the confirmation and receipt of the booking. They then brought out platters of snacks and pizzas that were definitely frozen beforehand, and when another of our party asked twice at halftime for the cake to be brought out at some point in the night, staff informed her that they will do it when they are ready. I understand that they we're busy, but as the match ended the crowd dwindled and still nothing. It ended up with me asking for the cake as we were about to leave, and even then it took ten minutes for us to receive the cake. Absolutely appalled that my friend spent all her efforts and we paid such a large amount of money to simply be forgotten about, and clearly no preparation was done by the venue. Speaking to a neighbour, she has also had a similar experience at Christmas time. Won't be returning

Lovely old pub first visited 50+ years ago - full of charm. Good selection of ales,wines etc. excellent service of food. Two meat eaters of our group rated 5* for meat dishes. Friendly bar service (once served). Feedback on veggie starters - mushroom dish delicious but underwhelming with only 2 mushrooms? Sweet potato falafel also tasty though small for even a starter portion? Not a great veggie selection for mains hence 3 stars. Also please remind bar staff to notice anyone standing to order at bar directly in front of entrance doors- unless it’s indicated service is not available at that section. Plan to return despite the negatives. Thank you.

Went there for the second time ordered food and drinks with a couple of friends, we had bad experience as the staff in the bar outside was very rude wasn’t any cooperated and the service was bad, hope they consider and improve more….

Had lunch here from the ‘New Menu’ Fish Gougons sandwich barely 2Pieces of fish some random lettuce a very small amount of Tartare Sauce on Plain White Bread for £9.50!! They’re having a laugh,absolute garbage wouldn’t have fed it to my dog! Nobody in and not surprised.

I have been coming to the Metro for years and in the past it has always impressed with the professional and friendly attitude of the bar staff. I am not sure what has changed but more recently, in the last couple of years, the bar staff are no longer the happy, helpful and competent people they used to be. Yesterday's visit may well be my last although given mood on display this will not worry the staff. All of them that were working on Friday and Saturday afternoon seemed unhappy and this was evident by their attitude towards customers. No smiles, no banter, bordering on rude. These roles are customer facing and regardless of how busy they are, a smile and a friendly attitude is a must. This couldn't care less is attitude usually attributed to poor managers so maybe this is what's changed. If it is then they need to get their act together. There are plenty of venues with miserable staff and poor service but the Metropolitan is not one I ever thought I would say this about.

The food was absolutely delicious and tasty. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The hake and scallop tagliatelle was amazing. Sarah was so helpful and friendly!

Had a late lunch there on May 14 as it was my daughter's birthday. At the moment my wife is on a very restrictive diet intended to avoid blockages after intestinal surgery. Our waitress Sarah was very attentive and helpful, referring several queries back to the chef [and the chef was helpful in promising "soggy chips" etc to meet our requirements]. The food was excellent and the service was prompt and friendly. [Side salad was very well presented and dressed; my daughter loved the fishcake and I was well pleased by the goat's cheese pizza.] When Sarah's session ended, Rebecca took over serving us and continued the experience of friendly and attentive service. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.

This is a nice pub with outside space but very expensive. £18.20 for 3 pints.

Busy evening, but lots of staff. Very slow, inattentive service, all staff except one had slightly surly CBA attitude on their faces. Training needed. The person doing a pub quiz seemed to be jollifying in the corner outside, but aside from that, lackadaisical, non-proactive service. Food was disappointingly mediocre; at £44 for 2 burgers & 2 pints, I would've expected more. Lame portion of chips & OK burgers. Meh. Went there en spec for an impromptu catch-up with a friend, unfortunately we chose this place to eat. Neither of us will be going back. What a shame.

We were with a post-funeral lunch party, allocated a large dining room to ourselves. Nice atmosphere surrounded by period artefacts. Lovely friendly team made us very welcome. Excellent buffet, full of interesting treats. Good range of beers and wines. Pleasant outdoor seating and dining area, full of people enjoying their lunch in the sunshine. Bonus of a large tarmaced car park.

We came in for the Sunday Roast after dining in earlier this week. The meal and service were incredible, our waitress Rebecca was fantastic and looked after us very well.

We went for a Sunday lunch and all of the food was delicious, great beef and Yorkshire puddings. The service was fantastic and Rebecca was the most friendly and attentive server, despite clearly having a lot of big tables to wait , we were never kept waiting. Thanks Rebecca :)

Visited at part of a pre booking for a dinner. They have an offer going on for 25% off with pre booked tables. Arrived and was told we needed to put a note in our booking asking for the 25% off and couldn’t get the discount. Really disappointing and the guy we spoke to was very unapologetic and rude despite it being a birthday we were there for. Food wasn’t that great either.

Food here was dreadful, ordered a pizza & when it came I was so disappointed. It looked nothing like it had been described on the menu, I couldn't find a single piece of chicken & about 5 pieces of bacon. The base was that thin it was hard. The menu says they are special pizzas from the pizza oven, more like a microwave oven. The manager came & took our plates away when we hadn't even finished, he didn't even ask us. No knife & forks or serviettes were brought to the table. The drinks were very expensive too. Its fair to say I will not be going back, absolutely dreadful.

Good was very good Steak and Venison Pie. Good pint of Guinness. Unfortunately half way though my meal the quiz night stated 🤣🤦🏻

The service was great but the food was just okay. The seafood in my dish were fresh but it was not really remarkable as well as the pizza. It was just okay or maybe we just ordered the wrong stuff from their menu. On the other hand, the service was good and the ambiance was good as well.

I was here for a few beers when it was empty. It was fine. Staff were nice and polite and friendly.

Lovely place for a night out and didn't wait very long for service

Staff very considerate and caring. It made our visits for lunch and a drink very easy as my mother is a wheelchair user. They were kind enough to remember from our previous visits and guided us to the most appropriate table to comfortably fit whilst remaining in the wheelchair. Very professional and pleasant staff, can't praise them enough.
