Beautiful food. Undeniable, but service was very 'odd'. Felt like we were not made welcome as we weren't happy with our allocated seating when we first arrived. Very small stall seating and when you are all over 5ft 6 it's very tight! They insisted we had specified athe stall seating but we were unaware of this. Eventually seated in a more comfortable area but felt like we had caused such an inconvenience. Service was like going to grannies for family meal. Not professional at all. But, the food was amazing. And it is easy to see why it is very hard to book a table here, especially in summer. A querky little gem.

A friendly welcome to a must-visit restaurant in the heart of St Ives, away from the main tourist spots. The food is authentic, homemade, and served with charm. We go every year and always have a great time. Love the history of the place and the Christmas decorations too!

The quality of the food and service at the Mermaid was excellent but unfortunately I was disappointed with the price and food portions. I accept that the prices would have increased over the last couple of years since I last dined there due to Brexit and post covid, but a reduction in the size of the portions left me feeling hard done to. I had the fish platter which was very tasty but was served only one scallop instead of 3, 2 prawns instead of 3 and 1 small portion of cod instead of 2. The seabass remained excellent and unchanged. The total cost of the meal was £73+ which included a 10 percent discretionary service charge to cover 2 mains and 2 glasses of wine. Not value for money I would argue and definitely not as good value as the last time I dined at the Mermaid a couple of years ago

This was our second time at The Mermaid. It is essential to book well in advance and as soon as you walk in you know why. Every table is taken and the atmosphere is warm and lively. We were served by Sarah and Emily who shared many years there. The service was timely but unhurried, with time for chat and polite conversation with diners. We both opted for the beef stir-fry which was well presented and amazingly good! ...followed by the Mermaid Mess (must have been her tail!) and chocolate mousse. A really great evening out. Many thanks to Emily for sharing her enjoyment and history of working at the Mermaid.

Amazing gem of a restaurant. Very old fashioned, beautiful interior. Unchanged from visits around 30 years ago. Love that. Dark wood booths, tables & chairs. Efficient friendly staff. Fish and seafood to die for. Whole Cornish sole was divine. Cooked to perfection.Chocolate mousse perfect. Generous portions. NZ Sauvignon Blanc wine was superb and reasonably priced. Thank you for a wonderful, memorable meal. Booking is essential to guarantee a table. Highly recommended. Just one suggestion - the gorgeous Cornish new potatoes had been previously pre-boiled & this ruined the flavour, spoiling them for us. They haven’t tasted like this on previous visits. Please stop doing this and cook when ordered as you used to. Knocked one star off because of the potatoes. Otherwise it would be 5 stars all the way.

Wow! What a gem of a find! We were searching for ages trying to find an authentic seafood restaurant that didn't cost an absolute fortune. Then my husband spotted a small red sign saying 'seafood restaurant' so we wondered off the main seafront up a road towards some flags and came across The Mermaid. It was closed at the time as they only open in the evening but we checked out the menu, did a quick Google review and booked the last table available at 8:30pm on a Monday evening! We absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. We wanted a bottle of white wine and were offered the special which turned out to be a Spanish wine and it was very reasonably priced at £22.50 so no hard selling to make us feel uncomfortable. We then ordered and I had the scallops to start which were delicious, followed by the monkfish skewers and they were cooked to perfection. My husband doesn't eat fish so opted for the fillet steak and it was the most flavorsome and well cooked steak he's had in a very long time. Also came with freshly hand cut chips which you don't usually get most places nowadays. We were too full for a pudding but again no hard selling to make us have one which was nice. The atmosphere was wholesome, loved that there was character to the place and you could read on the table mats the background to the place. We were surprised that all the waiting staff were of a mature age, but this made our experience even better because they were all so attentive and friendly. We would definitely return if we have the opportunity to visit St Ives again and if any of our friends or family happen to visit we will definitely be recommending the place.

Amazing fresh food and really reasonable prices! I’ve come here for my birthday and booked two months in advance, I would suggest booking this restaurant in advance especially nearer hotter times as you will not get a reservation for love or money but the wait is definitely worth it. We all left feeling full and satisfied and the drinks were well priced around £17-20 for a house bottle of wine which accompanied our food. I will definitely be returning on my next trip to st Ives. I would recommend the pot of seafood a few of us ordered this and it was a little over £20 and there was so much fresh different type of seafood. Very well priced and enjoyed

Your eyes might be drawn to the new fancy places along the harbour with their pretty lights and modern menus, but the mermaid is the only traditional place that’s left in st ives it seems! Inside being a right blast from a fisherman’s past, it’s just a great atmosphere with great fish, nothing show off or experimental - just good food! What I cannot recommend enough is the paella! Served from 6pm on an evening, £12 with a beer, take away only, but being so close to the harbour beach and Porthgwidden, it’s the evening sorted. It’s great paella as well, muscles and prawns and chicken and chorizo and squid, perfectly cooked rice and the right amount of spice. No doubt we’ll grab a box each again some time soon.

Little cozy place, not many tables (all full) and very welcoming just like the staff. Food: beyond words! Definitely the best meal of my life; hands down! Everything was so fresh to start with...the mussels were big and buttery, cooked to perfection (like everything else); the attention to detail was impressive from plating, to the way the salad was julienned, etc. Everything was well seasoned. Chips made from real potatoes, not soggy and not greasy...tartar sauce I think was made in house. Deserts...with a twist...creme brulee silky and creamy with a pleasant surprise at the bottom the the perfect caramelised sugar crust simply delicious Price: £180/5 persons including drinks and deserts. The food was very nice, the thing that made the experience very poor was the service. I understand to not have high expectations for service. The waitress forgot to bring our wine, we had to ask for it twice. When we politely asked the second time after our food had arrived, she was very rude. In addition, when our plates were cleared we asked for the bill and it never came. The waitresses hang out chatting in the corner. We waited for about half an hour even though the restaurant wasn't busy. We finally had to walk to the door just to get someone to take our credit cards. Service charges on your bill seem to no longer be optional. I definitely don't mind paying for service, but I would like simply to be waited on, and not with an attitude by the server.

We had the most fabulous festive afternoon, we wanted to say a massive thanks to the whole Indidog team who worked so incredibly hard trying their best to fit in the number of people who wanted to enjoy the vibe and hear the fabulous Falmouth Gospel Choir. As soon as we saw that you were holding this event we booked a table to eat for mid afternoon. The Festive Menu was absolutely gorgeous, one of the best eating out Christmas Turkey meals we have had. Even though it was super busy the whole team worked their socks off, weaving through the people with drinks and a smile. We were sat directly behind the couple who have just posted a review and we wanted to share our experience. We were in the restaurant from 2.30 and as it started to fill up people were allowed to stand in certain places and as soon as tables were available they were, in turn, directed to a seat. The couple in front of of us were seated and the lady decided to stand, for a lot of the time she was stood directly in front of our table which meant that my elderly mum couldn’t see anything. We chose not to say anything as we wanted to focus on the lovely music and vibe. To our right was a large table of people and we heard Simon explain that they would need to vacate the table as it was booked from 6.00. The waitress also explained this to us when we ordered our last round of drinks. We could hear Simon explaining to the couple in front of us that the table was booked from 6.00, and this is why no more orders etc could be taken, we heard the whole conversation and it was clear that despite the perfectly reasonable explanation the lady was not at all happy with what she was hearing. It was really sad as it was the Choirs last song and the theme was all about peace and understanding. I wanted to share this perspective as I feel the purpose of a review is to share what you experienced and what I saw was a team working incredibly hard to accommodate as many people as they could whilst balancing the needs of customers that have booked for the evening service.
