The Mermaid in Thanet

Have been here several times to eat in. The cod and chips are always tasty and well cooked and not greasy. The fish has just the right amount of light crispy batter. Not like some places where the fish looks huge but it’s all batter. The service is good and the staff are friendly. The only downside for me is the toilet (which is down steep,stairs) is rather shabby and last time we went was a bit smelly. I think someone had probably put a dirty nappy in the bin.

Great food, we had fish and chips and seafood platter, batter was crispy and chips were the best we’d had for ages. Service was friendly and reasonable prices for the quality of food.

great location very poor fish and chips . the (Cod?) was awful had to ask a member if staff if it was cod he said ya and shrugged his shoulders. The fish in question was not white and rather beige with a strange texture. WHAT A SHAME

Perfect fish and chips and excellent service. Nice, relaxed vibe and child friendly. We went with our 2 year old who had a good time and enjoyed his meal.

Sadly this fish and chip shop has declined since our last visit. Grumpy argumentative staff, complaining to each other whilst the customer stands in front of them. Poor quality fish and chips soggy , avoid .

Decent restaurant for fish and chips. Portion sizes were great. Could have done with more scampi on the scampi and chips but overall a good experience.

On a flying visit to the area we happened upon this fish and chips eatery. We were not disappointed. The cod was absolutely delicious and freshly cooked to perfection as were the chips. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We would definitely call again when in the area and thoroughly recommend a visit.

Best fish & chips myself & partner have had. We thought Whitby was good but the fish & chips here beat them hands down. The young girl who served us was so polite & we complimented the chef.

A great restaurant with delicious food. We would highly recommend it. The cod and the haddock were yummy, with really crispy, light batter, the chips were crispy, and the curry sauce and mushy peas the perfect sides, all washed down with Whitstable Pale Ale. Yum, yum, yum... Thank you.

Quality fish served by a quality team, we were served by Ed who treated my wife and I to a lovely giggle and natter whilst we waited for our meals. Will definitely take the family back to this great spot!

Friendly welcome, clean tables. Plenty of selection and nice options and portions. Take Away also good. Battered sausages / Cod / chios all nice. Tartare sauce without having to ask fir it. Lots of nice sides too- Gravy and mushy peas etc

I had a lovely welcome as I walked in and I felt very welcomed I went for the traditional fish and chips WoW it was simply the best great fresh white cod crispy crunchy batter and delicious wonderful chips I certainly didn’t want my experience to end Please visit and enjoy probably the best fish and chips in Broadstairs Kent

These were the best fish & chips in Broadstairs. Cooked to order, the fish had been skinned, the chips were crisp. The service was very good and very friendly even when busy.

My wife and I called into this fish and chip restaurant in Broadstairs for a late afternoon meal. Service was quick and we enjoyed great tasting, freshly cooked fish and chips. All the staff, including the owner, we spoke with were friendly and cheerful. Would definitely recommend.

Food wasn’t bad but the service was rude & unwelcoming. We ordered our fish & chips and were told very rudely we couldn’t sit and eat as they were closing soon but it was hard to understand that when the whole restaurant was still very busy with customers and we didn’t need long to finish our food. Plus he got our order wrong and when we informed him he then told us that he wasn’t serving anymore food. Sad really as we are local and I won’t go there again.

Me & my neice, went 2 the mermaid fish restaurant after a lovely day out in Broadstairs, what a fabulous way 2 finish off a day. The food @ the mermaid fish restaurant was, so good we will go again, & the welcome excellent, Even the chef came out & asked us if the food was OK. Definitely 5 stars.

Tasty food and decent portion size. We wanted to eat by the beach so chose to takeaway our food but inside and the seating area did look nice.

The service was very poor, took 30+ mins to get served takeaway! Food was ok, nothing special at all.

Was in Broadstairs for the day, & we went 2 the mermaid for fish @ chips, & the good was fabulous, & the staff from, The young lad Tyler who took our order, 2 the waitress who served us, was so nice. & then the chef came out & asked us how we was & then took our finished plates away. Ate here last night . Food was good quality but way overpriced. Jumbo sausage & chips £7.50, cod & chips £10.50 . Although fish was lovely and white it was an oblong shape instead of the usual fish shape which made it much smaller in size. Dearer than other fish & chips shops in the area. Wouldn’t eat here again solely because of the price

We shared a large fish & chips, cooked fresh was on the right side of crispy batter, nice flakey white fish & the best chips. Recommend 👍 how it should be

Stopped here this week for an early evening takeaway. I decided to just have some chips and a gherkin, my hubby had rock and chips. How did this cost just over £14! The take away cartons rather than paper mean you don't get a full portion. The fish was nice but a very small size. The chips were just OK. So overpriced for what you get!

Clean tidy restaurant Nice choice on menu Staff were attentive and friendly. I had burger and chips My husband had the medium cod and chips which was huge for a medium ! Would recommend

Great food and a huge selection to choose from. Friendly staff always ready to help. Batter was just right, not oily at all and a big portion size. A large cod was more like a whale and chips! Would recommend to anyone visiting.

On our recent stay in broadstairs, we had lunch here. It wasn't bad but with so many other places in broadstairs who do very good fish and chips, we found it a bit boring. The fish was good but the chips were a bit undercooked...

Basic food which is what we wanted however for a tasteless burger and over breaded calamari each with a coke for over £22 certainly not worth it and would not recommend

Great menu. We stuck to what we wanted I had seafood selection and my wife the fish and chips. Both meals excellent.. and great portions! Nice table at the window to watch the world go bye and very attentive service.

This is our favourite fish and chips in Broadstairs. Beautiful fresh fish, light batter, not at all greasy and lovely non-greasy chips too. Delicious.
