The Mere Scribbler in Lambeth

The staff were great, attentive and friendly. The issue is with the smell of damp, it's everywhere in the pub and especially strong out the back around the ladies toilets

The bin in the ladies toilet was overflowing with used nappies, it was disgusting. If the kitchen is anything like the toilets it’s a wonder we survived the food experience. Food itself was ok, but we had to chase the order and there was only a few other people eating. Definitely won’t be going back!

We were able to book Sunday lunch same day. The welcome was very friendly and service throughout attentive and courteous. Could not fault the roasts which came with extra gravy and apple sauce (for the pork). The blackberry & apple crumble (with custard) was more stewed fruit with grated biscuit but tasted excellent. We loved the place and will come again!

Thanks Mere Scribbler staff for lovely Sunday roasts. Really enjoyed the veggie wellington. Generous potions and fresh plentiful veg. The roast chicken and belly pork dinners were also tasty. Mothers’ Day free cocktail was a bonus! The waiting staff were busy yet managed to be patient and attentive. We’ll be back for Sunday roast - and will stay for the quiz night - looked like fun! You are giving the other excellent Streatham Common pub a run for their money… The kid’s meal - juice, mini burger and chips, chocolate brownie - was good value. Adult sticky toffee puddings and brownies with chilli ices of ice creams, went down a treat.

STINKING DRAINS An otherwise enjoyable regular visit here is now being spoiled by a bad stink. Landlord - get a plumber.

Food took ages, eggs were undercooked and cold. My friend said it was the world's worst burger and I believe her, it looked bad! Wouldn't eat here again, sorry. Would have told the staff but we weren't even asked how our food was so didn't get the chance to give feedback. #worldsworstburger

I had ordered Sunday lunch delivery at a sister pub and it failed to arrive. Having tried 20+ times to call the Old Frizzle, I rang the Mere Scribbler to see if they could help. I explained my predicament and a very sympathetic member of their staff offered to try to contact the other. She then rang me back to say that even she had failed. Thank you for trying and always know that such good customer service is always appreciated.

The Mere Scribbler used to be a great option for a Sunday Roast but it has unfortunately gone downhill since the recent change in menu. Unfortunately after our recent visit, we won’t be returning to eat. Our table had a mixture of roasts, the chicken burger and Caesar salad, all were quite disappointing but especially the roasts. Runny gravy, anaemic looking potatoes and when we queried why the pork and chicken hadn’t come with apple sauce and bread sauce, as detailed on the menu, we were told that they hadn’t updated the menu yet and they’ll no longer be serving sauces with the roasts?! A big shame and we hope the menu changes back soon!

I have watched rugby games on 2 consecutive Saturday s at the scribbler and will say this is a top place , outstanding customer service great venue , very helpful staff and manager . Cracking selection of ale and lager clwb Tropicana is a must . Food - quality . A venue to be visited

Diabolical service. Rude bar staff who were unable to meet the demands of a busy bar, vented their frustrations T the customers. We had planned to eat but left before the match started. The ignorant bar man was bald, slim, mid thirties and had tattoos on his right arm- just in case management read this.

This place has gone really downhill. Manager is very unprofessional, service was terrible. Won’t be returning.

Awful service, bypassed all hospitality training, manager awful, two hour wait. Plenty of other lovely places. Surely it can’t be that difficult to serve food if you run a pub/restaurant. Shouldn’t be in business.

Friendly staff, Amazing Roast. If you’re in SW London this is a must. Only downside was the outside area was being renovated. Will defo be back to eat outside.

The roasts generally: Really average and not somewhere any of us would go back to. Could tell some of the veg had been microwaved. This included the cauliflower cheese as this was over cooked mushy cauliflower with a separated cheese sauce. The pork belly also came with a huge amount of fat on (see pick for ratio). The vegan roast: When we put in our order, we were told the vegan roast has milk in. Not quite sure how this can be listed as vegan in the menu when it isn’t? We picked the restaurant based on the vegan option for our friend, and we wouldnt have gone here had this been properly advertised. We ordered it anyway as we didn’t want to have to move (and our vegan didn’t have an allergy to lactose), and it was rather strange. The gravy was more like a cheese sauce, and the pasty around the Wellington had the consistency of lasagne sheets. All in all, a real shame.

Twice now we’ve been to the quiz when it was won by a staggering margin by a team including the management of one of the other pubs in the chain. A team that dropped just 2 points out of 125! And you can tell by looking at them that knowledge is not their strong point. We explained this to the bar management - their response was ‘I don’t think there’s any rules against that’. Truly awful attitude towards customers who’ve paid £2.50 per head in good faith and competition. I know for a fact that the management of each pub prints the questions and answers either the night before or that very morning. Either the quiz company Inquizition needs to do something about it or Sarah the owner of livelyhood bars should get involved. Because by this example it’s probably happening in every one of their pubs.

This is fast becoming a favourite for us. The staff are unfailingly friendly and cheerful. There are great choices of cocktails. Food is freshly prepared and never disappoints. The secret garden is a lovely touch. And they show the football. And did I mention the staff. Hardworking and always always smiling and friendly!

The staff at the mere scribbler are so lovely and helpful! Always happy to go the extra mile and provide amazing service! The food (roast dinners especially) is amazing and I could not recommend it enough!
