Knowles of Norwood in Lambeth

Mondays, prices are reduced by 50%, which is the only time this place offers anything close to reasonable value. A quick glance at their online menu reveals a shockingly limited selection. The prices are exorbitant, yet the food quality is more akin to a cafeteria than even a mediocre cafe. If you enjoy subpar food in a drab environment served by an unprofessional staff and don't mind overpaying when there are far better options nearby, then this place might be for you. Seriously, READ THE MENU. On Mondays its about right

Awful service and food. Both members of staff there seemed utterly disinterested in us. Ordered food (a steak sandwich for my friend and fish cakes for me), which took about 45 mins to come, which is incredible as the place was virtually empty..they were hardly rushed off their feet. When the food did finally come (after chasing to see where it was twice), mine was overly salty, burnt and not pleasant (fishcakes), and my friends steak sandwich arrived in ciabatta you could break your teeth on. Onion rings looked and tasted like they came from a frozen packet. Not good at all. Our plates were never cleared away, and at no point were we asked if we wanted anything else or if everything was ok. I will not eat here again. This is the third time I have given this place a go based on good reviews ( god knows how drawing on my experience). To sum up: crap food, poor service and it’s not cheap. Avoid I say. Better pub food locally at either the Great North Wood or Tulse Hill Hotel.

It’s Christmas time and most restaurants are booked, so I was relieved to book a table at Knowles of Norwood. Upon arrival, I clocked the large Christmas tree that went with the warm and rustic decor. I loved the interior with its open brick walls with a dark wood finish. The bar also looked quite snazzy. I was a bit disappointed, that orders had to be made at the bar. But fair enough, the bar wasn’t that far. I ordered a Moving Mountains Burger 15, vegan cheese, burger mayo, pickles, with fries. I’m afraid it didn’t move me at all. Considering the impressive variety of vegan burgers that are sold in supermarkets, the Moving Mountain burger was very moist and lacked a lot of flavor. I’m a vegetarian and I know how to pack in flavor. I would have added a dashing of raw red onions, to enhance flavor or cooked white onions in olive oil with a dash of cayenne pepper and oregano. I have never tasted a burger like the Moving Mountain Burger but it leads me to believe that the restaurant doesn’t take vegetarian food seriously at all. There were only one or two vegetarian Main options and one was vegan. I was also disappointed by the Bakewell Tart because it didn’t look like a tart; it was more like a cake with an icing glaze on the top. It was OK. I may have liked it a bit more if I hadn’t been so disappointed about the burger. The highlight was Halloumi Fries, dripping with honey sauce. The restaurant also had a nice atmosphere and service. So, is Knowles of Norwood the place to go if you’re a vegan or vegetarian and you want to enjoy GREAT food? I’m afraid, the answer is NO.

This was my first time visting Knowels i live across the road from it. My gran children were visting for the week from abroad. I read the reviews ,some were positive some not so. I decided to take my Gran children there for lunch. We were given the menu nearly every dish we picked they did not have,very dissapointing. When did eventually pick what was left on the menu ,we gave our drinks order at the same time,we had to remind the waitress about our drinks order she completly forgot,i the pub was busy i would understand ,there were only 5 other patrons and they had already been seated and served,on website it boost as having "children area" there was nothing only a pool table. I will not be returning.

V disappointing lunch, spent over £100 between 4 people. Squid overcooked and rubbish, Ceasar salad swimming in sauce and v salty, with four small chunks of chicken in it, burger had cheapie American burger cheese, a la McDonald’s, which for the price a couple of slices of genuine cheddar wouldn’t have broke the shareholder’s bank. Most egregious though was the fact my roast had a very long hair in it, and when complained about the guy with the beard said it couldn’t have come from any of his chefs as they didn’t have long hair. While this might have been true, none of my party had such long hair either. There was no contrition at all, and if he had said, ‘I don’t think it came from us but I am sorry you found a hair and it ruined your experience, can I get you a drink or give you a dessert.’ But nah, nada! Shocking response. I’m a local guy and have been there many times, but won’t be going for food there again, as my custom didn’t seem appreciated.

We had a great time in the newly refurbished restaurant. A birthday celebration with 3 adults and 2 young children. Lovely window table with lots of room. After we’d eaten, local friends walked by and there was space for them to join us. Servers were super friendly and lovely with children. Food was OK but a bit limited if you didn’t want Sunday roast. Fish and chips and aubergine veggie option were good. Bloody Marys and Espresso Martinis were excellent! Sensitive refurb of this much loved historic building.

I can in yesterday with a few family members and I have to say wasn't the best start meet with very young staff whom obviously had no customer service skills what so ever but we stayed and gave it a go as we were there and it was freezing. We waited for our drinks after being told a lot of drinks where not available got our drinks and I have to say for the price where very poor glasses where dirty and cocktails tasted like there was no alcohol in them at all. We continued with our conversation and then noticed a group come in they sat down and went up for drinks they went back to their table which was next to us very pleasant group as they seems happy and actually brought a smile to our faces as we could hear their contagious laughs. About 30 mins after they returned to the bar and they were met with such rude staff and were then told they couldn't be served without Id strange as they had been served already. A man from the staff came over to their table and I have to say they handled it very well as I would of gone mad myself being spoken to like rubbish I overheard the whole thing as did my family we were utterly disgusted by the staffs behaviour in here and honestly the man with the beard who I assume was management of some kind honestly need's customer service lessons as the group explain they were served already and didn't understand why they now needed id to buy more drinks the man then told them to drink up and get out. At this point we had enough ourself and we left but I have to say their where so many young people in there which I'm sure we're not asked for id but this group well it seemed the staff had N issue with them. I really hope that group left after that and also do a review on what an absolutely disgusting encounter they had me myself I will never return there again

Came in today for a drink and a bite to eat was greeted by a lovely lady at the bar. Nice cozy environment, friendly staff, able to just chill and utilise electric and wifi. Great considering the cost of living. Be back soon

A friend booked a late lunch for 3:45 and when we sat down we were forgotten about. Eventually when someone came over and took a drinks order we were told that we couldn't order for 30 mins so could read the menu and have a few drinks. The issue was there was no reason given at the time but later found out the kitchen was backed up. Fair enough just would ha e liked the heads up. The food all arrived at once which meant things were cold in some areas. I would also prefer the service charge to be optional and not tagged onto the bill. I will say the food that was hot was very nice. Unfortunately I probably won't be back.

Came down with the girls to start the evening off with a few drinks and ended up staying and taking full advantage of the new food menu!!!! The food is always delicious and the place is always so welcoming, cosy and comfortable. The chefs are brilliant cooks and the staff what I can about about them…they are all so warm friendly and always welcoming. Will always go back there!
