Without question I would say this is the best place for curry in Norwich

My favourite Indian in Norwich, genuine complex flavours and a beautiful setting. We go often and it’s always faultless- but DO book in advance as it gets very busy.

I really recommend this restaurant, really nice staff specially Sim Who recommend me an amazing dish what I never tried before. I will definitely come back!

We decided at the last minute to book a table at Merchants of Spice as potentially our last date night before our baby arrives! Booking the table was so easy to do online. We were met by Misha who literally couldn’t do enough for us all evening, she was so attentive, funny and just lovely from the get go. She gave us advice on the menu and even gave me an extra chocolate “for the baby” at the end of the night which made a very pregnant chocoholic happy! Thank you so much guys, the food was top quality, piping hot, quick service and just an all round lovely experience. Will definitely be back as soon as!

Food was good. Tasty and freshly prepared. Probably had better Indian food but it was still nice and I understand that personal preference changes from person to person. The service was excellent. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful especially the Asian Waitress. Very lovely.

Excellent food, service was ok though I felt a bit rushed to 'get the order in'. Atmosphere wasn't great in terms of the acoustics as you could hear everyone else's conversations. Just my view, but that's the point of a review right? Final thought was that it was quite expensive.

We had been there before but it appears to be under different management than since we last went. We were given a friendly welcome and drinks ordered. Several dishes I had not tried before, so I decided to try something new. I had a prawn curry with coconut and special rice which was very tasty and quite mild. I had the keema nan too. We all thoroughly enjoyed. Staff were very amenable. We will certainly return.

With out doubt the best indian food in Norwich You can get cheaper but it's not worth the regret to save a couple of quid. We drive quite a way to get this food as every time were lazy and order delivery from else were we regret it. 5 *****

The staffs are very friendly. One of the staffs named Mr. Manpreet gives us some advices for drinks and foods. Also he remembers what we mentioned about the meal of our last visited. This is the second time we visited the restaurant in 2 weekends. We will recommend this restaurant.

Nice atmosphere and helpful, friendly staff. parking is convenient and easy. We had a table for 4 in December and ordered a range of dishes, tikka masala, lamb curry, vegetable curry etc. None of us were very impressed with the food. It was mediocre at best and lacked flavour. The vegetable curry was bland, lacked spices and seasoning and the consistency was gloopy. The tikka masala was very mild, and looked like Bolognese sauce, it tasted coconuty. We weren't very impressed with the food here and won't be returning. It wasn't bad food, but it wasn't good either.

Excellent service by the staff including Raihan. Booked online on Saturday 9th just a few hours before. They were very busy but we got a 5.30pm table. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Will return.

Very slow service. The team seems to be busy in other works compared to attending the tables. We waited for almost 10-15 minutes to get our table cleaned post meal even when there was not much rush in the restaurant. The food was as average and has limited items to choose from. Not worth going again.

Good quality Indian food. The service on the whole was attentive, one member of staff did come across as rude. It was the end of the night, so he was probably just tired, but the sarcasm and attitude wasn't necessary.

Always a great time at the Merchant. I always go with what they recommend and have never been disappointed.

I would have given 5* for service if it wasn't for the fact that when I asked if I could take away what I left over, the waiter went away and came back with 2 tubs and a silver-lined bag for my Nann Bread - and promptly placed it on the table for me to do myself! I've never seen or done that before. - won't be hurrying back!

We were going to eat elsewhere but big delay on food. Rang to book table at Merchants but told busy so delays. We got there early as we had advised them only to find 75% of restaurant empty. Our table was ready so sat and ordered drinks. Staff attentive and helpful, food delicious and well presented. I thoroughly enjoyed my curry and I only have one about once a year. Tasty naan too. Shame we were nearly put off going due to being told difficulty getting a table when in fact there was plenty of space. Good value for money and four of us really enjoyed our food. Would we return....its a yes!!

Very solid outing for my first curry in Norwich

Disappointed with the staff. There was no engagement at all from those that served us, we were never asked if everything was ok and when our order was being taken it was like ordering at McDonald's, as the waiter rushed through it and put us under pressure. Everyone appeared a bit miserable and unfriendly. The food was just ok but rice portions were too small. The tables are too close together, we endured a loud shouty annoying table of four, just inches away from us. Their other Norwich restaurant is better. Not very impressed with this one.

Had a meal here on Saturday last week. Always fantastic food and service. The lady who served us looked after us extremely well and gave a real personal touch, as well as Nish. Top level of servicer acompanied by fantastic food. 10/10!

We visited tonight for our anniversary meal and it didn't disappoint us, food was amazing and the hosts were brilliant too. We very much enjoyed some child free time together enjoying great food.

Unfortunately people coming in ,rushing us & the meal wasn't the Best ,a bit of a let down from last time I visited.

Me and my girlfriend where greeted by a lovely bubbly women called Misha, she made us feel so welcome and comfortable. I would highly recommend the bangali fish curry, food is gorgeous and all the staff are friendly and helpful. If you get to meet misha you'll have a warm & wonderful experience. Will be coming back again :) 10/10

I drive 30 minutes past 4 other takeaways to get my curry here. Its absolutely the best high quality curry in Norfolk. Nish and his team are so welcoming, genuine and focused on serving authentic - proper tasty food. The Dhal Ghosh is a fabulous lentil and slow cooked lamb - like a mouthwatering old school dansak. Excellent for dining experience inside and in the funky garden. Same high quality for Takeaways. Love it. P

First time here, unfortunately will not be returning. Incorrect table size reserved, not accommodating at all to a very small change of something on the menu so one of the party did not eat. The service was poor, quite rude & abrupt to be honest. All sat with empty glasses, the curry & some sides came out 5 mins before the rice then was then things missing and things were cold. Had to wait 15 mins to track the bill down after requesting it 4 times. We were a party of 6, three of whom are poorly today which is not the best either. We eat out at least once a week sometimes twice, unfortunately we all agreed we won't be heading back here.

The highlight of my birthday is normally to visit Nish and his team at The Merchants and have a wonderful meal. Again this hasn't been possible, but the second best thing of having a takeaway was never in question. As always, the food was cooked to perfection and still hot when we got home.Many Thanks for the outstanding service, especially under such exceptional circumstances.

I must say that takeaways in lockdown have been such a disappointment!! That was, however, until I ordered from this restaurant! It has always been a joy to eat there in the restaurant and Takeaway was just as good (well, without the fantastic staff that are so friendly and accommodating in the restaurant!!) Went to collect our Takeaway this evening. All ready bang on time.It was truly amazing. We love this place run by Nishant and the guys, but the takeaway was exceptional.Tandoori King Prawn a must. The best you can find anywhere. Chicken Biryani with lentils- wow.Naga Chicken and chicken Jalfrezi, with Bindi and onion bahjee made up the selection.Thanks Nish and Chef for another delicious meal. Doesn’t get better than this

Prawn Malabar was lovely, also loved the tikka paneer, first time I’d ever had that. It was two days before the latest lock down.

Ate here Saturday 19th dec, great atmosphere, great decor, social distancing 50/50, staff great, However the food is tasteless, for starter I had fish tikka, it had no taste what so ever, grateful for the lemon & dips, main was lamb karahi, so bland it's a shame because the place has potential, the lamb was perfect tho, unbelievably soft, chips were like chinese chips & the naan was tasty but the size of a saucer, if I'm in the area again I'll try elsewhere, sorry guys but a curry should be flavorful & it was just totally bland...

When restaurants like Merchants stick to social distancing rules, close at 10pm, and follow all the guidelines, it seems somewhat unfair they are forced to shut doors completely during lockdown.Nonetheless, their takeaways as always are excellent and delicious, and tonight was no exception. We chose to beat the queues and picked our order up promptly at 5pm. Arrived home, and the food was still piping hot. A 44 mile round trip, and well worth the drive. Nish and the team never fail to deliver. The food was absolutely sublime.

Wanting to meet up with two friends for late birthday meal, booked online for 7pm and had an email day before asking if we were confirming or cancelling. Arrived right on time and QR code and hand sanitizer very prominent. Masks worn by all staff and table clean and perfectly set. Menu is classic as you would expect. Food was perfect, had Korma with mushroom rice. Restaurant closed at 10 so we had a good time to order and eat and chat. Very reasonable prices and excellent service.

Nuestra segunda visita a Norfolk desde 2018. La última vez, ya que nos estábamos quedando en un hotel cercano, comimos por primera vez en el MoS y quedamos tan impresionados que comimos de nuevo varias veces durante nuestra estancia de una semana. Visitamos la zona nuevamente recientemente y, por supuesto, reservamos para comer allí nuevamente. La comida, el menú, el servicio y el ambiente son muy buenos. Personal amable y atento, que se acordó de nosotros inmediatamente. Thorpe Street Andrew no está exactamente repleto de opciones para cenar. Desde nuestra última visita, parece que muchos bares se han rendido y han cerrado. Afortunadamente, MoS sigue prosperando. Went there last night, read the reviews and wasn’t disappointed, friendly staff, co vid safe, meal was excellent, wife said is was the best lamb dish she had ever had at an Indian restaurant.

Vinimos aquí el sábado, 6 de nosotros. Algunos de nosotros comimos el pollo bhuna y uno de mis compañeros, que ha comido 100 s de curry, considera que fue el mejor que jamás haya probado. También fui por el arroz con coco porque nunca lo comí, encantador. Disfrutamos mucho aquí y pensé que el interior era realmente agradable. Puedes venir aquí con tus compañeros o tus señoritas.

Pedí una comida para llevar anoche, 30 minutos dijeron, mal. Llegó a dichos 30 minutos. La máquina de tarjetas no funciona, se paga en efectivo, no hay problema. Esperé 25 minutos afuera, mientras, creo que cocinaron la comida habiendo pagado en efectivo. Decepcionado con el sabor en general, genial si te gustan los grandes trozos de patatas en Kurma, Alo Gobi y Railway Lamb, de los cuales había muy poco cordero. Tal vez los compré en una mala noche, ya que está altamente calificado.

Probably the best Indian I have had. The staff were great. Very helpful and polite. Nothing to much trouble. Will definitely be returning at some point. Fully COVID-19 compliant and felt very safe.

Another great meal with great service from Felix who always looks after us so well. The food is always delicious...lucky to have this on our doorstep but worth the visit even if you’re not local.

Once again we all enjoyed delicious food in one of the most hospitable restaurants you could hope to eat in. We ate chicken shashlik - beautifully spicy and tender - chicken bhuna - exotic - a mix of prawns chicken and lamb. We shared coconut rice pilaf rice and assorted breads. A triumphant feast of a meal followed by cooling subtly flavoured ices.The staff are most attentive, friendly and knowledgeable to advise on the wonderful menu.The restaurant follows all the safety requirements and we all felt confident that our well being was of the upmost priority.And the last but not least important person to mention is the superb manager of this wonderful restaurant Felix Rodriguez. He oozes charm and friendliness- it's well worth the visit here to meet this lovely man.

Firstly they were full when trying to book but said they would call me back if they had a cancellation. They did and 3 hours before the booked time they called me again to make sure I was going. I learned they do that with every customer as they have a long wait list and of course they don't want no shows. So, the restaurant was full and all the 6pms finished at 8pm - tables cleaned properly in readiness for those dining at 8:15. Very efficient and polite, drinks servered quickly, orders taken with information, all food nicely presented and waiters all looked smart and tidy, know what they doing and masked to match their dress. All tables socially distanced. Nothing to fault everything to compliment and the owner Nish came over for a chat. In conclusion quality food and service come first as do their customers

Had a decidedly mediocre Indian meal here, my girlfriend had raved about the place. She was disappointed on the night as well. Perhaps it was just an off night as these do occur occasionally. We have not eaten there since, but I am willing to give it another try sometime, perhaps ordering this time from the full menu rather than the cheaper set type menu, as I quite often find these disappointing.

Everything went right with this meal. The online booking was easy and efficient. When you arrive the place is spotless and service really efficient. The tables are spaced for covid and waitors take precautions seriously without impacting on the eating experience.The food was great. I had Prawn Puri which was fragrant and tasty. My husband had chicken rolls which were light and tasty. He then had Rabbit Bhuna which he raved about. It had tonnes of meat in it, so a filling portion. I had chicken Rezla, beautifully cooked and tasty. We had this served with mushroom rice, sag aloo and garlic bread. We managed to eat most although really too much food. The quality was the best I have had in Norwich. Others must have thought so as restaurant was fully booked and people came to collect takeaways the whole time we were there. A definite find.

Work away from home go 30 years this has to be in my top five Indian restaurants food is fantastic and staff are so helpful really great. Food is to die for. Could not recommend it enough brilliant

One of our absolute favourite places, we often visit Brundall to stay on the family boat and always make a point of call to make sure we stay and eat here.. it’s the sort of atmosphere, service and food you look forward to all year round. The food it’s always so fresh, anything can be changed to suit your taste, nothing is too much trouble for Nish and his team. I had the lamb rogan josh this time, excellent as always! I love dinning I’m merchant of spice only because I love their food and their hospitality being an Indian my preference is on having food tasting my pallets and I enjoy it throughly and merchant spice 2 on Yarmouth road is exactly spot on with their cuzines just love it Must recommended everyone should give it a go at least once and experience the food and their hospitality

Love this restaurant,but had a takeaway tonight from them and it was grim,really watery sauces made us feel sick, so poor from a normally fantastic restaurant. God knows who was cooking it.gutted.

prawn shashlik, methi chicken and sag aloo.The shashlik is the best thing I have tasted for along time daughter is not keen on red pepper so we devoured that For her as it was amazing.The flavours are lovely.We particularly like the unusual things like the methi chicken too as you don’t find them in other Indian restaurants.It is worth the extra £ Awesome food and fast service if you phone early. Can be hour wait but worth it.

Got takeout Indian food from Norwich that is the best I've had in years! Merchants of Spice II on Yarmouth Road makes the most amazing toasted paneer cheese wrapped in spices and sauce then lightly braised until the edges were crispy. The coconut rice was sweet but also had little bits of toasted onion that gave it more flavor than just sweet. And I have always wondered about Butter Chicken. Wow! Gentle creamy tomato and spices with melt in your mouth chicken! OK. It's the first restaurant food in months, I know. But even when the restaurants open again for sit down customers, I will be hard pressed to duplicate this experience. I have never tasted such good Indian food except in an Indian home.

When things are looking bleak, you can always turn to Merchants II to cheer you up. Open obviously for takeaways only, and pleasing to see they are taking health and safety seriously by serving only through a window and wearing face masks. Ok, so the ambiance was missing, but the food was plentiful, tasty, and still hot when I got home.To all you regulars, support Nish and his team through this difficult period by purchasing a takeaway (check website for opening details). I am now going to treat myself to my traditional end to the meal brandy in a glass over a candle! Very Best Wishes To You All.

Could now ask for more ,perfection all round . The manager and his staff work very hard to make the restaurant No 1 in Norfolk for amazing Indian food .

Quality food with friendly polite service. The restaurant has a lovely ambience with bar area on way in. Definitely need to book beforehand. We had three courses and a lovely evening altogether.

It was takeaway time last night, usually sit in and never disappointed and takeaway time was no different, food perfect, team amazing, it’s like everyone is the best customer and every member of staff is delighted to see every customer. Thanks Nish and everyone will be there again soon

We popped along for a takeaway tonight, it was very busy and obviously very popular in the area alongside the number of reviews listed here. Food was lovely we had the Naga Chicken and Chicken Patia both gave lovely flavours and complimented each other very well.Lovely food and will return in the future, lots of parking and well worth booking for a table.

I would highly recommend for its excellent customer service a great food with quick service. Staff are extremely friendly and providing an excellent dining experience. They have also gone for the extra mile for Valentines Day celebration.

Since my first review of this restaurant a couple of years ago we have continued to visit about four times a year. It is still the best Indian Restaurant in Norwich and I have yet to find another in Norfolk to match it. On each visit we try different dishes and have never found one that wasn't excellent. My daughter who lives in London always insists on eating there whenever she visits as she rates it better than any she has experienced in London. The staff are extremely helpful and will arrange with the chef for a little less spice if you would prefer a slightly milder version of any of there dishes, also they will do a vegetarian option of any dish.

Delicious food all round. We all shared our plates in a prime position in the middle of the restaurant. Whether it once swam in the sea or gambolled in a field everything was cooked to perfection. Immaculate service and *fantastic* glass tumblers...

Took a last minute booking on a Friday night with friends. We are well seasoned Asian food lovers, and have heard that this restaurant was worth a try. It is sited in an ex public house so has good free parking and the seating is not too cramped. The decor is contemporary and well thought out. The staff were attentive and good humoured. However, the main point of a dining experience is the food and this is where The Merchants of Spice II fell short.

If your looking for delicious Indian food with fabulous service than look no further! The team at Merchants accommodated my difficult food allergies with ease and the food still tasted incredible. We’ve visited many times and we’ve never been disappointed!!

When visiting an Indian restaurant where the decor/ambiance and food are divine what can then raise the praise on the Merchants of Spice?

Went on Saturday night for anniversary meal with my wife. Absolutely can’t fault the food and service. Only small gripe is the restaurant is so dimly lit it’s quite hard to see the menu. Other than that would definitely return

Once again, this fine establishment hosts a wonderful evening with fine food and great hospitality. High expectations as its my son's birthday, and as is always the case, Nish and his team never fail to deliver. Having visited Merchants 1 many times, this one is just as good! Service and waiters very good. If you are a hot curry lover, the lamb/chicken chilli massala is amazing! Such a nice curry one of the best yet. Thoroughly recommend

Another fantastic meal at the Merchants of Spice 2. Delicious food, epspecially the Onion Bhajis, Sag Aloo and Dhal Ghosh! My wife likes Tamarind sauce so much the waiter gave us loads to take home! Staff really go the extra mile. Brilliant service in a spacious, mood lit restaurant. Will be back soon!
