The Mekong Cat in Stockport

The food here is lovely, lots of choice and I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried. I want to love this restaurant, but the service lets the experience down every time. Every visit the same staff member has made us feel somewhat unwelcome - the last time they seemed to be laughing at our order with the chef. They joked about turning customers away who came in looking for a table. It made for a very uncomfortable time in a very small restaurant. Another waiter arrived later on who was lovely, I wished he had been there the whole time! Maybe a little more training is needed?

We have been coming here since it opened. We absolutely love it. The food is amazing and the vibe and staff are equally on par. A party of 6 of us went today to celebrate my son’s 17th birthday. I asked them if they could do something to suitably embarrass him. Well, they surpassed any expectations I had, they presented him with a cake and played happy birthday through the restaurant. It was awesome and a true testament to how much these guys care. Thank you 💃💃

Lovely tasty meal, very attentive staff who gave advise on the different dishes. Very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend this to anyone.

This place has been recommended by a few people and the reviews we have read are great. We love Asian food and the menu is full of mouth watering sounding dishes so we were really looking forward to going. We finally made it there for a late lunch. We hadn't booked but the waiter found us a table for an hour, which made us think it must be amazing as it was fully booked for the rest of the day. The waiter then took ages to take our order and didn't really seem interested. Another waiter arrived while we were there, and was much more attentive, but wasn't our waiter. In short, the food was delicious, but service pretty lacklustre, the decor/furniture more cafe than restaurant and the prices pretty expensive. Sadly, we can't see why it has such great reviews and won't be coming back.

Highly recommend this place as the foods are so good and prices are affordable 👌 the only thing that they are always full so make sure you call them and make reservation before you show up.

I've been going here for years and it has been consistent with amazing food and great service. There are many vegan and vegetarian options which have always been delicious. I have brought many of my family and friends here and they have all loved it!

First time visiting this evening and I cannot believe we have not been sooner! Fabulous food,friendly and helpful staff and a great selection of drinks. Booking is advisable, only a few mins walk from the market or the town centre.parking is nearby

Lovely authentic food! We recently returned from Vietnam and had to get our fix of the food here as it reminds us of being there. Summer rolls are amazing and all the noodles are lovely.

Lovely asian restaurant, Summer rolls with peanut sauce were especially delicious. We dropped in at the off chance of a table and they accommodated us within 15 minutes. Lovely atmosphere and friendly service would definitely recommend.

Absolutely fantastic little find, we turned up on a sunny afternoon with no reservation. This was no problem, explained we would be off the table for when they needed it. Food is 5* extremely tasty, kids could not get enough. Service was outstanding, will definitely recommend and visit again x

Unbelievable authentic food at a super reasonable price. Been here twice with friends and both times everyone has had no complaints. I had summer rolls to start - great portion size, and the satay sauce is delicious. Beef pad see eew for mains (pictured) - also fantastic!

Very fresh and tasty with a detailed vegetarian and vegan selection.

Finally visited here and so glad we did! Vegetable crispy rolls and tofu pad Thai were both very tasty. My partner had chicken wings and the Kar Ko. Friendly staff. Food came out quickly. Definitely try the Asian doughnuts for dessert! Can’t wait to come back!

Really was everything we wanted it to be as our regular pho had gone, next time I might be cheeky and ask for some extra noodles, and another slice of pork in the summer rolls. Service was 10/10, a lovely younger female who works weekends

Great food, great service and great atmosphere. I really enjoyed the all the food we had. I will definitely return to try more of the menu. The drunken noodles were excellent as was the summer rolls and Boc Loc Lac was my favourite dish. I can’t wait to try the bhan mi.

The Mekong Cat is honestly amazing, their food is brilliant and refreshing, both in the sense of being refreshing, but also in giving authentic Vietnamese and south Asian food. If you are considering going, you definitely should!

What a find! Great tasty food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Noodle soup stocks are full of flavour, and the garlic chicken wings are superb. Nice cold beers and Soju are available and reasonably priced.

Hands down the best Thai food I’ve ever had! Full vegan menu, quick service, so flavorful and filling. I may have to move to Stockport!!!

Thought it would be pretty quiet at 14:30 on a Saturday, only one table for two remaining and they said they needed it in an hour. Service was impeccable, the food flew out and was so so tasty. Will definitely be revisiting with friends and family but will try and book ahead in advance. Such a lovely place!

After spending a considerable amount of time travelling around Asia it was pleasant to try somewhere with familiar foods and good quality. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere was really good. Small restaurant but this adds to the charm. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area who likes Cambodian or thai food (they also serve Laos and Vietnamese style dishes).

Yum yum, the managed to squeeze us in last minute what a treat got to practice my chopstick skills and have a few tasty drinks to accompany the nice food. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly got the vibe that they liked being there too. I would totally re visit here as it was spot on, sweet little venue and good grub :)

Went here as heard good things, i was not disappointed. Fantastic dishes from Asia, trying new things is always interesting. Starters were nice, currys and pho’s were exceptional and the donuts for desert we a real treat. Will 100% be returning very soon. Booking ahead is essential

Very authentic, amazing tasting southeast Asian food! Friendly staff, and cozy atmosphere with lots of personal touches. Well portioned food and lots of free condiments. The pad Thai and the khao sai was too good!

We visited the Mekong Cat today for lunch for the first time. The food was out of this world, amazing authentic flavours which I can't wait to try again. Pricing was good around £11/£12 for a main which is extremely filling. The restaurant is small so you need to book but it's very homely and I will definitely be visiting again. Also service was very good welcoming and professional.

Really love their sister restaurant in Marple so decided to try Mekong Cat and was not disappointed at all! The combo Lao style pho had such a rich flavour and the beef was so tender. We all enjoyed our food and will 100% be back.

A quaint little restaurant that feels really personable and comforting due to it's smaller size, only seats about 9 four person tables. The service is speedy and the food is cheap but incredibly tasty. Would highly recommend.

My 15 year old son's first visit and he loved it. Only marking the atmosphere down as we arrived before opening and only went in because another group walked in while we were waiting outside

Average food. Very cold in restaurant and don’t expect plastic glasses with a meal! More like a cafe than a restaurant . No full bottles of wine just 1/4 bottles. Very odd.

Three of us visited for the first. Good choice of food and drink. All very reasonable priced. Good service. The food was delicious. The only let down was the temperature inside the restaurant, it was cold. I will return to sample more dishes from the menu.

Simply the best pho I'd ever ate in Manchester, I ate pho in the street of Hanoi, Vietnam many years ago for USD1.00 and the taste was amazingly good and believe me I'm from Hong Kong, the only city in Asia you can taste any cutting edge Asian dishes at very nice quality at very good price, The Mekong Cat really surprised me. Thanks for my wife randomly searched this restaurant during our day trip from Manchester! My wife & The Mekong Cat made my day! Sorry no picture!

Probably really nice! The food looked amazing but not actually our "cup of tea" we love Chinese and Thai but this was different! Properly read the menu and you will probably enjoy it but not for is!

We finally got around to visiting The Mekong Cat after hearing lots of positive feedback from people. We’re so glad we did! Authentic setting, great selection on the menu, friendly staff and DELICIOUS food. We ordered a selection of starters and individual main courses - all were super tasty. The Mekong Cat comes highly recommended by us. We’ll be back soon!

So finally we managed to try it after few attempts when they were closed. The staff were really friendly and we managed to get a table without making a booking what was really surprising. I like the deco, positive vibe and food was really nice too so we already booked table for our next visit. Thank you for opening such a lovely place in Stockport with so many vegan options :)

Went with friends for our Christmas get together. I’d been wanting to go to this place ages but it’s not easy to book a table as there’s only 30 or so covers. The starters were great, the highlight being the chicken wings (both Angkor and Mekong). My house special pho was very tasty and the drunken noodles looked superb. It is a small cafe and it did get cold when the door was opened. Wine is limited to 1/4 bottles of 3/4 different reds (and presumably whites as well) but if you’re not too fussed about that then this is worth a visit

The place was freezing , we ate our food with coats and scarves on ! The food was good but the waiter cleared the starters whilst one person was still eating, then to compound the matter brought just one of the main courses out , the other three mains arrived about 20 minutes later - consequently the first person ate his food on his own ! Been here twice for lunch previously but will probably never return after tonight’s experience.

Utter perfection. The young man running front of house was so lovely, and gave brilliant recommendations, and the food was so delicious. Definitely try the pudding!

Absolutely amazing, flavourful food, lovely staff

Randomly stumbled into this place today as my wife and I were looking for some Asian food. We shared a Khao Soi Chicken dish and a Kar Ko with rice dish between us and it was absolutely tremendous. We lived in Asia for 20 years and can honestly say the food quality at Mekong Cat is very authentic compared to our experience overseas. We WILL be going back to try the rest of their dishes. You may have to book though, as it got really busy while we were there. Well done to The Mekong Cat team for such a great food experience.

The owners are lovely but the food, wow! I got the vegan curry noodles last time which are heaven but I have eaten all of the veggie mains and they are all incredible. You must try it! The crispy cauliflower is the best thing on the menu

Lovely little gem! Huge vegan menu & standard with lovely staff! I had the summer rolls, the sauce they came with should be bottled and sold it was incredible!

Great service and great food. Very good selection of dishes, they have a dedicated vegan section with plenty of options. We were recommended by friends and were not disappointed. The prices are also very reasonable. The only downside was that there was no dessert menu. Take a walk down the underbank after and there are plenty of bars to choose from.

Been looking forward to trying this place for a while, but the food turned out to be a bit disappointing. Had a broth containing sliced braised beef - was expecting home cooked beef, but it appeared to be the kind of tasteless grey sliced cooked beef that you buy pre-packed in any supermarket. The rest of the food was fine, but a bit underwhelming. The dessert - some kind of fried dough sticks with condensed milk dip - was pretty fabulous though. And the service was super.

What a gem, we have eaten here several times (when we can get a table). Great food, lovely people. I am sure they will prosper with a larger place though I hope they do not lose their food ethic and simplicity. Please go and enjoy.
