The McMillan in Glasgow City

Dined in her with my aunties last Friday and the service was absolutely fantastic as was the meal and the drinks. Fantastic overall.

First time in here I'm not cracked up on steaks but I'm converted it was very nice will be going again , the wifes happy it wasn't a curry !!!!, the main waitress knows how to work her customers a wee credit to the owner ,as was the guy on the bar both very nice makes a difference, any way top class 😀 oh try a zombie £12 but very potent 😆

First visit although our son and wife been before and had booked here for a family get together. Fully agree previous review re booths, not big enough for 6 adults and there were tables which the 6 of us could have sat more comfortably at which is a shame as the atmosphere is very good. Super efficient/friendly service. One steak was wrong, instead of medium - rare, got medium - well done however was changed without fuss and quickly. Food was very good although a bit more expensive than other places. High chairs still being stored in a working toilet ! Probably return for another visit.

On Wednesday 9th of April I took my daughter in law who was celebrating her 50th birthday and my granddaughter to this restaurant for lunch. I had reserved a table in advance for 13.30. We waited over an hour for our starters, which according to the manager was caused by "unexpected walk-ins". An added insult as we had booked our table. When the entrees arrived the appropriate cutlery was missing and my granddaughter's salad was dressed and had onions on it, which we had specifically requested that it not have. About three forkfuls into my meal I found a sliver of white plastic...I'm my mouth!! Do you know that when the young waitress, who was charming and apologetic all the way through this disaster, complained on our behalf the manager did not have the decency to return to our table. It was an absolute disgrace and I will never set foot in that place again.

I can't fault the food, the ribs and the chateaubriand were excellent. Slightly dubious tactics during taking payment for the whole table. I had to question the remaining amount as the bill was split and I was nearly overcharged by £50. Soured the evening slightly. Instead of asking me to pay the remainder I was asked what my share was which was irrelevant due to being the last to pay.

Great food and lovely staff. Andy's Bar is also really nice with the roaring fire and good drinks. There is a major issue though that's easy to solve. They don't allow dogs, which is fair enough but for the life of me I don't understand why they don't have an entrance to the beer garden outside so you can enter, leave the dog and go inside to order! We would love to be able to sit outside in the sun and enjoy their excellent food and drinks but as we can't even walk through the bar with the dog and go outside, we're unable to! Please put a gate in!

Servicio amable pero muy lento. Perdimos nuestro pedido de bebidas y cobramos de más en la factura final. El asado del domingo fue decepcionante, la “rara” carne dura y otras partes de la comida frías e incomestibles. Bonito entorno, pero no vale la pena el dinero.

Pleasant but very slow service . Lost our drinks order and overcharged us on the final bill. Sunday roast was disappointing. Some of the food was cold and the ‘rare’ beef was tough. Starters nice tho.

The Topside of Beef Sunday Roast was tasty and generously portioned. The Sirloin Steak was tender and juicy, and the Cullen skink was smokey, creamy and filling though more potato than actual fish. More vegetarian main options needed, there was really only Cauliflower.

Mi marido y yo estábamos deseando nuestra primera visita a The McMillan Bar + Chop House en Glasgow. Era nuestra “noche de citas” y siendo bastante raros, mi marido reservó con antelación y pidió que lo sentaran en el restaurante. Nos recibieron cálidamente y nos mostraron a nuestra mesa - segunda cabina, a unos ocho pies de la mesa alta del bar más cercano. (Así que, decididamente no en el área del restaurante.) Nuestra anfitriona era alegre y nos dio el menú establecido equivocado para los asados de domingo, así que compartimos uno de los menús establecidos entre nosotros (no es gran cosa). Elegí las costillas y el filete de flanco, mientras que mi marido eligió los arancini y el filete de flanco. El Arancini era encantador. Volvería solo por este entrante - y solo tuve una prueba! Sin embargo, las costillas fueron... probablemente las peores costillas que he probado. Duro, duro, duro - hirvió demasiado tiempo o algo así. Tomé dos bocados de costillas diferentes y aparté el plato. Nadie vino a revisar pero cuando se despejaron las placas, nos preguntaron y dije la verdad: las costillas no estaban bien. El camarero volvió unos minutos más tarde para decir que lo había retirado de nuestra factura ya que no disfruté del plato, que fue muy amable de su parte. Cuando nuestros filetes de flanco llegaron - bueno, los dos platos eran COMPLETAMENTE diferentes formas y espesores, a pesar de ser el mismo plato. (Realmente no lo entiendo, ya que el peso es el mismo y pensé que los restaurantes intentan que los platos se vean uniformes. ) Ambos pedimos medio/bien. No había línea rosa en ninguno de ellos - estaban bien hechos. El mío estaba tan lleno de carcoma que la mitad del filete quedó en mi plato - hay solo un poco que puedo diseccionar. Mi esposo terminó una de las piezas de mi plato - y se sorprendió y preguntó: “¿La tuya tenía esa grasa todo el camino a través de ella?” Um, si. Su respuesta: “Más sabroso que el mío, pero duro.” Y tuvo que quitarse el grageo de la boca muy sutilmente. Las bebidas eran buenas. El servicio era bueno. He estado diciendo a todos los que preguntan que no es un lugar que recomendaría. Un asador debe poder cocinar y servir bistec comestible. Fin de.

1 vez en la calle tratando aquí, ya que escuchamos un montón sobre él. No soy una persona de filetes, pero me encanta el pescado con papas fritas y lo tenían en el menú. Personalmente la comida era excelente el pescado era agradable y crujiente. La salsa de pimienta en grano era hermosa. Todos dijeron lo mismo que todos disfrutamos de nuestras comidas. La única desventaja fue que tomó un poco de tiempo para conseguir la cena. Pero adivinar que es porque está cocinado fresco, así que no es realmente una queja. ¿Regresaríamos? Sí, lo haríamos.

¡Absolutamente podrido! La comida consistía en una pequeña cantidad de patatas fritas, el bistec era muy pequeño y duro como el cuero, no se podía masticar en absoluto, pequeña cantidad de salsa y no olvidar la mitad de un tomate cherry!!! ¡Eso fue todo! £ 35, el mismo plato exacto que se sirvió durante el día por £ 13 , explíquelo! No le habría dado ese filete a mi perro, se habría ahogado. Personal de camarera excelente. Si hubiera podido dar menos estrella lo habría hecho. He estado en este restaurante hace unos años y ahora puedo recordar por qué dije que no volvería!!!! Ahorre dinero para una comida decente en otro lugar.

This place forced their staff to come in during Storm Eowyn all day, going against the government advice of making sure people stay in during such dangerous conditions. Shame on you.

The food was absolutely beautiful and great price

We were there for a 70th birthday dinner in a separated room which was fine but a tad cramped. Service was friendly and efficient and the food - very nicely presented and excellent quality. Cannot speak for the pricing as we were guests. A bit difficult to park nearby. A short walk, but would only be a problem if the weather was inclement.

A generously sized restaurant with decent spacing between tables so there was a feeling of privacy in what is a busy, popular restaurant. Decent menu although a bit on the pricey side. The restaurant has parking for 4 vehicles which is not enough for a restaurant of this size so street parking is required or use of public transport - parking in the area is very tight. Toilets were adequate but certainly not spectacular. Air dryers under performed and should be replaced. Service was friendly but could have been more attentive, perhaps short staffed for a busy Friday night. This is a steak restaurant but there were also other good menu options - I had the cod and potato curry which was delicious. I took a side instead of a starter and that was also good. The desserts didn't float my boat, personally, but the coffee was a good alternative and came with a small square of fudge. Heating could have been better but it was a very cold night outside. The street outside the restaurant was icy and should have been gritted for customer safety. Overall star rating of 4 reflects the areas of improvement I have mentioned. Still good enough to merit a return visit.

Booked at the last minute on New Year's Day. Started with Cullen Skunk thick, creamy and delicious. I had the Xmas dinner, well it was my last chance for a year. Tender turkey and the usual trimmings...get away from me sprouts!!! My other half had the rib eye, cooked to perfection. Sticky toffee pudding and ice cream to follow. Good service, good food and a good start to the New Year!!!

Super steakhouse. I had the fillet steak. Delicious. Fresh, zesty chimichurri sauce. Hot, light skinny fries. The waiter kept it simple, accurate, friendly and good timing. It had the perfect Friday night out atmosphere - laid back/ smart. I may have missed the sides but that would be my one possible improvement,Will be back.

Buena selección de platos en tres platos. Buen vino tinto también. Fuimos por arancini y Cullen skink para empezar. Carne asada para tres y coliflor asada para mí. Delicioso con un enorme pudín Yorkshire y todos los adornos. Para los postres tuvimos helado, sorbete y pudín de toffee. Los tres muy sabrosos. Qué más puedo decir. Cuatro clientes felices. Went for lunch yesterday, staff not intentive, allthough the place was quiet, once staff menber did come over, no greets or smiles. Burger was over cooked and chewie, bun burned, chips was the only thing that was good, wine £27 had to ask for the plates to be taken away. Bill was over £80 won't be back.

A lovely bar and reith a cozy atmosphere. The food was all excellent and served by very helpful and friendly staff. We'll go back.

Had to return steak twice!!! For a restaurant which specialises in steak not good

Yet again a fantastic meal from the MacMillan. We were there for a family celebration and the food was brilliant. Staff were very tentative, kind and friendly. Would highly recommend for a steak meal.

Not the best experience. The service was a bit slow to start. Waitress was polite and friendly but I really don't think she'd been trained enough. Note to the manager - your staff are your asset. Lighting is dark and menu almost impossible to read so make sure you take your smartphone! The munchies while you wait were nice. The first course - ribs were tasty but the Cullen sink....too much potato filler and £9.95 for half a tattie? C'mon. Main course, me and missus had rib eye. Nice enough but at £33 would expect a little more steak. Another in the group had cold venison loin, but it's difficult/awkward to say at the time as it makes everything out of sync for the group. And for the first time, I experienced an Australian Shiraz with 11% alcohol. As an experienced wine drinker (drunk) really quite disappointed. I'd heard good things about this place, but I'll not be back.

Service is good but the food is shocking for the price! Been here a couple of times at the weekends and food was good but last night a had to send back the starters which was the glazed ribs. Which were bland with no flavour and chewy/fatty. And basically had to force the steak down me as I was already waiting a while for it and it was my partners birthday so didn't want to make to much of a fuss. Steak was bland and over done when I had asked for medium rare, there's alot of better places in glasgow for better value. What ever chef was working last night needs some lessons on how to cook a steak rather than ruin a steak!! Wouldn't hurry back if the meal was paid for.

Came here after number one choice was fully booked. So glad we did. Super restaurant with friendly attentive staff. Interest atmosphere, feels a bit like a step back in time but that all adds to the charm. The food was excellent. Very reasonably priced two course lunch and my steak was really juicy. I will be back.

Visited here after work with family and friends and were greeted by the most lovely, personable staff ( young lady with brown hair). Super friendly welcome which was amazing. Our orders were taken by the blond team member and the meal was perfect. The prawns where PERFECT. Ribs - delicious. Main course was also unreal, steak seasoned to absolute perfection and a lamb rack was unreal. Such an amazing team of staff really was amazing.

We all decided that the steaks here were some of the best we have ever tasted. Simple made and incredibly tasty. The mid week special is an excellent price. The cocktails are lovely the staff are attentive without being in your face. I really enjoyed my meal.

Can't believe I've been living in the southside my whole life and haven't been here before. Couldn't recommend enough. We had dinner inside although there is a nice beer garden outside. All the staff were very kind and accommodating. The interior design was top class. Nice ambience. The food was out of this world, beat steak ever. The drinks were also sublimely made, Pina colada was fantastic. 11/10 experience.

We had a family dinner to celebrate my daughtet's re ecovery after surgery.

My boyfriend and I love this place. That is twice now they have accommodated us at the last minute when no where else would take us. We had the Châteaubriand steak deal and it was absolutely divine. Everything about the meal was cooked to perfection from the truffle coated chips to the tenderstem broccoli. The staff are lovely too and can’t do enough for you! High praise to the chef! 👏 10/10 🌟

Visited recently for an anniversary meal. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Food was great value but of high quality and presented beautifully. Will be visiting again soon.

Went for Sunday Lunch, food looks amazing, nicely presented but only one piece of roast potato, small portions of all veg, small scoop of mash- cant fault the any of these, just would've liked more? The meat was a bit chewy but tasted ok & 2 large slices. But meal was ruined by the gravy which was really sweet. No idea what was in it to make it so sweet but it just didnt go well with the other flavours. (I love gravy so had covered my food with it before I realised, I don't think anyone expects gravy to be sweet though?) It's a shame because other parts of the meal were excellent but made inedible by the sweet gravy.

Went to Macmillan chop house for my birthday, had the 3 course menu at £24 as we had the steak ,Calamari starter was fabulous , Flat iron steak was amazing cooked to perfection with taste to match partner had Afagato with liquer and I had deconstructed strawberry cheesecake both excellent. Couple of cocktails and a bottle of Malbec delicious, service was good as well

Steaks are cooked to perfection. Best steaks ever. Mac and cheese could be improved though. Steaks are the best , can’t beat their quality and juiciness.

Stopped in for a Sunday lunch, first off the service is lovely. The roast arrived quickly after ordering, it was ridiculously cold even after outing the warm gravy over it. The presentation was nice, I can only think that’s why the food was so cold.

We had a party of 8 with 2 graduates from the University of Glasgow and the food was phenomenal. The filets were juicy and perfectly cook, the appetizers were superb. The drink selection did us in!

My name's sake so I would be biased. Great place for a steak but lovely overall. Good location to get to and from and sitting outside when the sun is out is perfect. Also winter in their little bar is comfortable and welcoming with the real fuel fire. Great for a few drinks and for a special occasion.

Went to McMillans in shawlands for dinner I had the early 3 course meal and I was greeted with a very happy front off house team member and the servers were all smiles and could not do enough for you. Okay the food: My Starter was Scotch broth soup with the bread and proper butter this was so tasty it tool me all my time not to order a second plate. Then I had the steak with buttered mash and steak sauce. The steak came perfectly cooked and i mean perfectly cooked (med/rare) the steak melted in my mouth as it was so tender I love my steaks this was the best one I've had. To finish i had dessert it was the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and the sauce, "bog standered i hear you say" absolutely not it was delicious. What an end to the meal. A BIG shout out to the chef just outstanding food well done and when you cook fresh food it shows. All this for £ 24.00 quid and once you've pick your self up from the floor (i know the price) I will tell you I've paid THREE times as much in other places so everyone thank you for fantastic meal.

The lunch deal is excellent value for money, and the steak itself is great quality for the price. Service is pretty solid good chat and generally attentive.

I ate here tonight and the food at best was mediocre. We were a large party and the waitress stood at the bottom of the table taking the order shouting across 5 other people "what do you want" to those at the top of the table. The calamari was lukewarm and sorry but I've had a better Sunday roast the only thing I really enjoyed was the deconstructed strawberry cheese cake

I had the pleasure of eating here tonight , The foos was absolutely amazing well worth evey penny and highly recommend to anyone thinking of going! I got the garlic mushrooms - next level!!! Best mushrooms i have ever had !! My main i got the andys burger- burger cheese bacon and bbq sauce with skinny fries simple but epic!! Probably in my top 3 burgers of all time !! Such good quality products !! 👌 Staff really freindly and attentive !! Quick service !!

First time visiting, and have to say what a great place to eat. Plenty of space in the restaurant , has a nice atmosphere about it. Staff were great, polite and sorted out our requests quickly, as we had an infant with us, they were great with him, and brought food for him as requested. We have been to Miller & Carter before, and prefer this place, for the atmosphere alone. Food was lovely, and again cooked to our requirements. Restaurant was very clean. Had no issues with waiting times between courses, and didn’t feel rushed, overall a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. Will definitely be going back.

What's not to like great place, reasonably priced, well worth a visit

My husband and I had passed the restaurant a couple of times and liked the look from outside. We tried to book online three times but each time it did not complete. We therefore decided to go for lunch on his day off. We arrived at the 1 o’clock time slot we had requested online to be told we had no reservation. The young girl said as it was quiet it wouldn’t be an issue. She escorted us to a table then promptly brought menus and asked what we’d like to drink. We gave our order and watched as she gave it to a guy at the bar who put the drinks on the bar. Our drinks sat there for 15 minutes as the staff cleared another table and the two girls then chatted as the guy served another table. As the guy passed our table he passed our drinks looked over to the tables and then brought it to the only table without drinks. He then asked if we had ordered our meal. We said no but we were ready. He took our choices and left. Forty minutes later our steak and chips arrived. I wanted a rare steak but it was really cold with no heat in it at all. The second girl came and asked if our meal was ok. I don’t usually complain but I told her my meal was cold. She took my meal to be reheated. By the time she returned my husband had finished his meal. I began to eat my steak but it was poor quality with sinue all the way through making it difficult to chew. I gave my husband half of it and he said his had been a lot better. When we finished our meal my husband had to go to the bar as no one approached us. The girls were setting one table near us who had finished. A girl with a patterned blouse put our bill on the table and we asked for the card machine. We waited as she went and spoke to the first girl we spoke to. She was cleaning something with a roll of blue paper when she finished she brought the card machine over. She asked us what else we had planned for our day. She did not make eye contact and this was the first time she had made contact with us since she took our drink offer and left us hanging on for it to arrive. If it had not been for the guy behind the bar I would have given this review a 1. Lunchtime eating is usually quick and easy as people are busy. The service was very poor. It lacked continuity and friendliness. The meal was really cold but there was a lack of concern or that as a couple we would want to eat together. There was no offer to keep my husband meal warm so we could eat together. In a service industry I look for the basics but they were sadly lacking.

Disappointed to find out they have started to allow crowds of football fans in. This never used to be the case so it was a safe place to go. But they've changed that policy since there's been a lot of staff changes. Manager openly told us they do this purely for profit without a care for the local regulars. Definitely not a place to be when they allow these crowds in. Service was also pretty slow for ordering just a few drinks.

Food was delectable. Lily (Our NZ Prinny) made our meal so much more special. The lobster mac n cheese is to die for and obvs the chateaubriand is the reason for coming x

went here yesterday after seeing the steak and chips deal. came in when it was relatively quiet, asked to sit outside and someone would be with us to give us menus. we were not given any and had to get our own drinks menus, and was left waiting a long while for the server to take our order. The server then asked us what we were having to eat, having no menus in front of us we were amused at this, but knew what we were getting so this was ok. the servers are not attentive in the slightest, the food is mediocre at best and we will not be returning, i would have complained at the restaurant, but i didn’t have the time to sit around waiting for the staff, if you like long wait times and mediocre steak you will love it here.

Went through seeing Facebook food reviewers video for £12 dinner the portion size is nothing like video had to send back steak asked for medium rare it was on the side of rare but still a nice steak always feel let down when food reviewer maybe friend to business or advertised item are not what you expected

McMillan is one of the best restaurants in Glasgow. I visited earlier today and immediately had to leave a review. It was probably the best Sunday Roast I've ever had. Certainly the best I've had in recent times. The meat was topside beef (my friend had a chicken replacement which the restaurant kindly offered as a replacement). The topside was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The plate also came with some tenderstem broccoli, cooked to perfection, some cauliflower cheese, also perfect, a small slice of roasted corn-on-the-cob, some mashed potato, some roasted potato, and of course the legendary Yorkshire pudding, which was amazingly puffed up and beatifully presented. The gravy was so good, we had to get a second one for the table! For dessert, I had the strawberry cheesecake which was topped with a delicious crunchy crumble. I felt the cream was a little too "creamy" and heavy, and could have used more cheese, but as a whole dish with the crumble and strawberry it was delicious. I also had an affogato and the coffee was great quality. The service was very attentive and polite, friendly staff everywhere and very accommodating. The ambiance is really great. They have traditional American-Diner-style "booths", which is ideal for small families and friends - not too noisy and very comfortable. Everything has a decent amount of quality to it, although the crockery and cuttlery is a bit boring/standard but it suits the style of restaurant. Unfortunately, when it comes to parking, it is quite frustrating, there are only 3 spaces available directly on the restaurant site, so most people will park on Titwood Road, however there are very few spaces here too, and we ended up parking quite far down the road and had to walk back, so bear that in mind if you have mobility issues or it's pouring down with rain (as it was today!). Overall, this is an amazing restaurant for Sunday Lunch and I would definitely come back again on a weekday to try the rest of the menu. I would highly recommend it to everyone and I think the other reviews echo the same sentiment.

Amazing market menu lunch. Server was so lovely. Steak with such a gorgeous peppercorn sauce. Mac and cheese side was great too so worth asking for additional sides with the steak as I like something as well as chips with it. STP was so great.
