The McMillan in Glasgow City

Been here a few times now, always been good. It was disappointing this time, the starters are limited and we both opted for Pate, which was OK. My burger for main course was a joke, bun so soggy it was impossible to pick up, I had to eat it with a knife and fork, tasty enough but messy. My good lady got surf and turf, she asked for medium but it was medium rare, fortunately she doesn't mind that too much. The King Prawns were not deveined, unforgivable in my opinion... So I won't ever go back!!

Amazing market menu lunch. Server was so lovely. Steak with such a gorgeous peppercorn sauce. Mac and cheese side was great too so worth asking for additional sides with the steak as I like something as well as chips with it. STP was so great.

Fantastic Sunday roast dinner. Never disappoints.

Booking was 3pm my mum arrived a little earlier and was given seat at our table and told my mum remember you have to be out for 5. The service started off quite well when we arrived took our order and starters came afyer about 15 minutes which was quite reasonable. Main course was an hour after our starters finished tho so we were starting to feel under pressure as waitress wanted us out by 5. I paid the bill up at bar with no receipt just told me what it was. When we got home my wife said she didn't think was right so I questioned it at restraunt next day the girl had got it wrong and failed to mention we had to pay service charge even thought I gave a 10 pound tip they apologised they had overcharged us and refunded what they overcharged bit have since been informed its not first time they've did this food OK portions were really small and so pricey I definitely wouldn't go back

Went for a family meal out and was not disappointed. Had a lovely steak - a little fatty but it's always the luck of the draw. I then had a spicy margarita which was really nice after the main course. I was talked into a dessert and had a McMillan sundae. It was absolutely unreal. Go just for the sundae. I'll be back tomorrow for one. And probably every day next week. Buy. The. Sundae.

Hubby and I had the steak, fries and peppercorn sauce deal...Great value and delicious...Will definitely go back to try the Sunday roast.

Delicious food. Absolutely tremendous steaks. Such a nice chilled place to eat and the waiter could not do enough for us. We loved it and will definitely be back again

Firstly we have visted mcmillan many times and this is the only time we have had an issue at this restaurant its usually very very good, thats why we return time and again. Unfortunatley on this occassion we were left disappointed the issue was the temperature of the food, firstly my ribs starter where lukewarm at best but i never made a fuss just thought it was a one off. Anyway onto our main curse both couples ordered the tomahawk steaks and both where cold actually cold to the touch, probably didnt help the fact they were served on a cold skillet, asked for them to be heated and they came back luke warm at best. Spoke to manager and to be fair he was really nice provided the table with a dessert on the house which was appreciated but for £360 bill for 4 of us we where a bit disappointed, would not stop us returning as i said we have been on several occassions and this was the only time we have had an issue, service was great and as i said the taste of our food was lovley it was just cold.

Went with a group for a birthday. The food was nice had mushroom soup and steak with pepper sauce and ice cream. The steak was quite small with only french fries and pepper sauce . Overall the drinks are expensive as well im not sue would go back . The staff were friendly enough but the prices would put you off.

Good for a meal comes in two sizes large and normal large is if you are really hungry 😋

Popped in on New Year's day for a coffee and ended up having lunch there, Haggis ,neeps & tatties all very nice. Staff were friendly and accommodating as we hadn't booked a table.

Had family Christmas Lunch here on boxing day..perfect ..great food ,good portion size ,staff were lovely and despite it being busy we didn’t feel rushed, the decor and atmosphere was lovely ..meal was very reasonably priced ..will definitely be back .

What a place !!! Fantastic restaurant located in Shawlands/Strathbungo with parking outside and superb food to die for. Steaks are very reasonably priced and cooked to perfection- the first bite was delicious 😋 Highly recommend this place with loads of booths and private dining areas. Even has outside seating but not for us in December haha Service was exceptional and its awesome to be served by one of the family members who run the place - great vibes #shoplocal

Fab food and great service. Was a quiet Wednesday lunchtime but the Christmas decor was lovely.

We received a warm welcome on entering and were impressed with the internal environment and ambience. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. I requested medium rare and received exactly what I ordered, which is not always the case with steak. The staff were courteous and attentive.

Disappointing. Went for Sunday Roast and was told the Sunday Roast menu was replaced for Xmas - fair enough. Was given the options, and when I ordered, the option was unavailable. So, ultimately went for a third choice. We ordered the sausages and mash followed by some strawberry ice cream for our daughter, and the chateaubriand 500g with mac cheese, fries, mash, peppercorn sauce and some broccoli for my partner and I. The kid's sausages were really hard. You could tell they were good meat, nice and flavoursome and good texture, but arguably, they hadn't been cooked properly. The steak was unevenly cooked too. We asked for it medium rare, but on the outside it was closer to well done, and the centre was blue - this is a serious problem for anyone ordering a steak and sides that's costing £100 for two people. In hindsight I should have handed it back, but sometimes it is awkward to do so. The mash was dry, and although it was flavoursome enough, and I could tell there was butter through it from taste, the texture was very questionable and poor. The hand-cut chips were slightly undercooked and still quite hard in the middle - which was disappointing. The broccoli with chilli and garlic was good though, but it's probably the easiest dish on the plate with some garlic oil and chilli flakes added to the pan so, not worth celebrating. I had also noted it was my wee one's birthday when booking, and not a mention of it when we were there. I know that's not mandatory but when the food isn't all that great, you half expect the service to be a bit better. So, overall was quite let down by the whole experience.

Took agroup of people 17 infact so was abit nervous as alot of people but I didn't have to worry the waiter was excellent the experience was very welcoming and helped with bill etc can't thank him enough the food was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice everyone really enjoyed themselves thankyou 🤗

Just left mcmillan's steak house in southside of glasgow. Place was quiet, 3 foh staff members, ordered chateaubriand med rare, no check backs throughout meal, steak over cooked. Had to approach server to ask if she put through correct cooking temperature. She rectified it was med-rare on system. Steak was more med- med well. No offer to rectify by replacing steak.

It was okay. Not as good as I was hoping it would be. No return visit I'm afraid.

I was at a Birthday Celebration Dinner and it was the best dining experience I have had in a long time. The service was excellent and the timing and organisation of the serving was great. The food was first class. The Parfait was more than sufficient and the Flat Iron Steak was cooked to perfection .Overall an excellent evening out and at a reasonable price.

Brilliant steak if you ever need a quick lunch in the southside perfect for catching up with friends and a great looking bar too could be a warm evening for a tipple or two!

We hired the private dining room for our wedding dinner a few weeks ago and couldn’t be happier with how it went. First of all, the food is incredible. We can’t fault a single thing (on the wedding day or the many dinners we had there on the run up to the day). What really sold us on The McMillan was the staff and their service. The staff are all so professional and couldn’t do enough for us in the lead up, the night before to help us decorate the room or on the day. The staff know their venue and their menu inside out and we felt that we were in good hands. We really can’t recommend The McMillan enough, thank you!

3 courses for £21 Mon-Fri, 12-6. All three dishes lovely and at a fair price. Staff all nice & friendly.

Great food, been there several times. They have one of the best medium rare steak. And a side note, if you only eat halal meet, you can still go, just make sure you book a day or two prior and let them know

We went during lunch time, the food was amazing but they seemed a little under staffed and it took quite a while before we could order. The staff were polite and friendly. Most importantly the food was worth the wait.

We have am regular patrons whenever I am in the area. It is sometime since I wrote a review and I am delighted to see that this family run establishment continues to provide an outstanding level of service. A special mention to Maddie who has a warm and bubbly personality, as well being smart and efficient. Anna was also friendly and welcoming. A warm ambience, quality coffee and best of all, a kitchen chef who provides some outstanding dishes of which any restaurant would be proud. Our dishes on the day were Tempura calamari , tender and crisp and a sensible portion. The other "starter" was tender short ribs which were quite tender, moist and delicious. To be highly recommended. The chef has an obvious creative flair and this shows in the presentation. The choice of chicory salad and dressings looked good and tasted even better. High Fives all round.

A good place to go for a nice steak dinner. The chaetubriand dinner for 2 is a great deal for quality meat! Drinks were fab as well

Nice restaurant & lovely interior, slow service and very expensive for the food we got, lots of additional costs (extra £1 for hand cut chips and sauces, dessert £9 which was not very impressive)…

Have been to this restaurant on a couple of occasions previously and had really good food, this was the reason why I decided to book this place for my dads birthday. We were a family of 17 booked in for lunch and we all had a 3 course lunch with many of us ordering steak. I have to complement the chef as the steaks were cooked very well and we all enjoyed the food. The service was also good, particularly from one girl unfortunately I didn’t catch her name but she was very attentive throughout the meal and very helpful with all our requests. The reason why I have to give a one star for this restaurant was because of the supposed management policy on not allowing us to cut or eat the birthday cake we had bought in following our meal. The reason the manager gave for not allowing this was ridiculous and not something I have ever experienced in any restaurant. What made it even more frustrating was the fact that we weren’t made aware of this when we gave the birthday cake to staff when we first came into the restaurant. We weren’t allowed to eat our own birthday cake that we had bought in because of allergy issues and the restaurant won’t take responsibility if any issues arise. I had baked the cake myself and obviously know if my family have any allergies. The manager I spoke with was not very apologetic or helpful at all. Seemed like once they have your money they don’t care about customer service afterwards. We spent over £500 in this restaurant and what was suppose to be a special occasion was utterly ruined by this managers attitude. It’s such a shame as before this happened everyone was saying how much they enjoyed the food and how they’ll be back, but this has left a sour taste and none of us will be back or recommend this place to anyone else. Just a warning for others who may want to have a special occasion in this restaurant as they also hire out a private dining room you won’t be allowed to bring your own cake in to eat.

We were in the private dining room for a baby shower, and everything was amazing. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was perfect for our celebrations and our lovely server Maddie went above and beyond at every opportunity. Maddie (and other staff like Ruby) were so attentive and understanding and genuinely kind- especially towards the children with us who have learning difficulties, and with us being a large group! We could not have asked for a better evening. Thank you for being such gracious hosts and a lovely venue

Classy and accessible steak house in the southside of Glasgow. Tasty food, great drinks menu and top tier service. Never got the servers name (they were a sims 4 fan) but they were a great help discussing whisky’s and desserts. A must try restaurant, won’t be long till ere back.

Great food and cocktails. I had the lamb - pricey but really delicious- and great old fashioned cocktail. The booths are a bit small for 5 /6 guests. Also the service midweek in a 2/3 empty restaurant was pretty slow - one person at my table had to wait nearly 15 min for a beer. So only 4/5 from me.

Absolutely loved our steaks and cocktails, and the service was fab. We ordered the broccoli as a side dish and it was enough for two people. Favourite cocktail was the coconut and ginger daiquiri - but they were all great tbh! We will definitely be back for another visit!

The food was tasty and came quickly however I was unimpressed with the atmosphere. The restaurant was muggy so it was hard to enjoy the food because it was so warm. One side of the bar was covered in tons of dirty glasses that never seemed to reduce. When I arrived the women's toilet was filthy and out of TP. When I left after the meal the toilet was in the same state and I had to ask for toilet paper, which was placed on top of the dispenser. For a nice restaurant I expect more from the facilities.

I really love it here. They do great lunch deals & fabulous steak. The last time I opted for the roast dinner, it was good, but I much prefer the steak!! I got the lunch deal the day before & opted for the steak & fries ~ delicious! Definitely worth it. The photos are what we had the last 2 times I went along.

10 quid steak deal was good quality. The staff were really nice and the place had a chill atmosphere. I will be back :)

If you care about the working conditions of the staff that serves you, please consider never spending your money in this place. After doing a trial shift at the McMillan, they asked me to come back for another two shifts on the pretext that the restaurant was not busy enough during that time, promising me that I would be paid for both. Overall I completed a total of 15 hours of work, for which I was never paid. I called a number of times and was always told that the manager was "away" and would deal with this in due time, and got the same response from one of the duty managers when I dropped in to speak with someone in person. Disgusting and shameful does not begin to cover management's behaviour.

I had the pate to start with tasted good but came with only one oatcake and a small piece of crisp bread🤔at £8.50 I would have expected more, my desert was so disappointing 😔a tiny portion of creme bruli at an expensive £7.95,the main course tasted nice but the chicken breast was small and had a piece of bone still attached which was off putting.

Had a very nice meal here with my daughters. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and finished with cocktails. Would recommend the Coconut & Ginger daiquiri. Nice restaurant, and the waitress was fantastic.

Great value Sunday roast dinner. Perfect roast beef, all the trimmings absolutely delicious. Friendly efficient staff, great atmosphere and a welcoming wood burner for these sharper days.

21 of us visited the McMillain and were in the private room. Staff were so accommodating and on the ball with getting all of us drinks, lewis was out server and was great. Food was tasty, no mix ups and was fast service. They also let us put our own music on which was a plus. The staff let us come in early and set up balloons and also printed a message on the menus for us. Great night would definitely recommend for large groups.

Went for the special offer @£20 over the Christmas period and we were not disappointed, delicious food and such lovely and friendly staff. Beautiful decor and a lovely atmosphere

My friend and I visit the McMillan Bar & Chop House fairly regularly, always thoroughly enjoy our meal, generous portions, well cooked food.

We’ve been to McMillan on several occasions, but tonight we didn’t have great service It was very disappointing. Having to for cutlery Server not being attentive Steak being. Sent back twice Very unusual. Maybe new management Not sure if I’ll be returning now Pretty sad 😞

What a fantastic experience will 100% be back! Party of 13 and we were served with amazing service and then some! Relatively busy Thursday for the restaurant with a few big parties and our party was one of them. We were served drinks, orders taken once whole party arrived, we ordered and were checked back on once food arrived. Dessert order taken and again check back done. I work in the hospitality sector and I was impressed by the overall service! Food was outstanding but the service made the evening. I wish they had name tags. Our server was dark haired with glasses and that server deserves a raise for her service! Thank you! We will all be back!

Ventured out on a whim Saturday night and luckily got a space for 2 at short notice. Very friendly welcome to a vibey atmosphere. Loved the open kitchen seeing the chefs! Pork cheek starter was excellent, both our steaks cooked perfectly, and the sticky toffee pudding was a real treat. Pricey, but you get what you paid for. Overall a lovely evening.

Had the £10 steak deal which is good value for money. The menu is very pricey. Decor could be doing with an upgrade as it looked a bit dated, compared to the outside. Service was ok.

The service was really good but the food wasn't particularly worthy of praise as the Sunday roast wasn't hot when served and the roast chicken looked a bit lonely on the plate when no veg came to keep it company. Overall, the experience was pleasant but not anything more than that.

Great value for money and great steaks

This is the first time my wife and I have used this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The food was superb with decent portions. The price was well worth the money. We were created at the door with a cheery smile and a warm welcome. The toilets and the whole place was spotless. I had the mixed grill which was first class and my wife had the chicken which was equally good. Our server was so friendly and had a great knowledge of the menu.
