Nothing special. Would not recommend.

The initial reception was great by front of house and the quirky entrance to the pub was a lot of fun. After being seated in the underground bar, we were on barstools, which is ok but not relaxing. The cocktails were pricey, but this is central London after all. The cinema Paradiso was great for a popcorn snack and cocktail all in one, but the drink had more ice than liquid (ice and popcorn was a weird mouth experience too!) but what really let this place down for me was a miserable waiter serving us our drinks on Tuesday 26th March, he really looked like he didn't want to be there that day, and also the state and smell of the unisex toilets was not at all good (see picture). This place is great for the quirky and fun entrance but after that, it is "just ok" in my opinion.

Been looking to try out one of London's hidden 'speakeasy' style bars for a while - and where better to start than through the fridge ! Would definitely recommend booking, especially for in the evenings on weekends - and the table is only booked for an hour. Fun cocktails with each coming with a little something extra depending on the price - such as a chunk of peanut brittle, crystallised ginger, or served in a novelty glass. Great music choices too, just the right atmosphere.

We asked to see the Mayor. Really well 'hidden ' speakeasy, lovely host, attentive bar team accompanied by some fantastic mixologists. Didn't try the food, but it looked lovely when passing. Dimly lit, like stepping back in time. It's not the cheapest of places to visit but well worth it.

The evening was spoiled, the receptionist was extremely rude, we faced with a charge for being late (which was refunded later), but were forced to spend our time to get there, and on the road we recognised we would be not seated. No apologies. Highly not recommended for booking

It is an unusual cocktail bar with excellent drinks. The perfect place to have a drink and unwind after work. They tailor the drinks to your liking as well. Great job!

Hyper quirky. Trendy. Decadent. Slightly expensive, but this is a destination venue in London.

Ok, the easiest way to explain it is this.. You're here to see the Mayor. It was my wifes 40th birthday and we booked ahead of time. I booked online and requested the date (a Saturday 24th Feb @ 8pm), length of time needed at the table (you get either 1hr or 1hr30m). A responce back didn't take long! Assuming the popularity of this venue, it is clear to see why you only get a certain time. Dress code: Casual, no need to dress fancy, but I'm sure it would be super cool if you did! We entered (I'm sure by now you may of seen the "secret" and don't need me to explain), and straight away the atmosphere hits you, along with admittedly some claustraphobia. It doesn't take long for that to disappear as straight away you are greeted by the team ready for the shennanigans to start, I advise you download the menu and be ready with your demands as again, this place is fast. What seemed like no effort needed we had our cocktails, I had the aristrocat and my wife had um, something I can't remember, they were amazing (see pictures). We ordered food, and that was just as fast. Menu-wise, it's a simple no messing food affair, reminisant of back home flavors and quick-bite convinence, again please prepare so you can make the most out of this place. Music-wise I felt like I was transported to an almost late 80s miami with a loud mixture of disco and funk, perfect for something so niché and secretive! Absorbing the vibe from the decor and grandure, it is a place of mystery and intrigue, perfect for people who need to get away from the super indulgent high priced popularised glamour of the upper world and its skyscrapers. Here I believe is one of the best parts; when you are at your table, glasses of water are topped up continually for you to drink as often as you can/want. This helps you enjoy the cocktails and keep yourself from getting a little too hammered, albiet it also helps maintain the possible hangover the next day. I can safely say that if every bar/resturant did this, we would more than likely have a better imprint of welfare for those that don't really have a threshold for maximisation. All in all did we enjoy it? The Mayor Of Scardey Cat Town is simply brilliant, an awesome concept of mystery and discovery. I personally, needed to pick a place that appealed to my wifes more introvertial/casual mindset and to not feel out of place in a city so draped in asthetics, TMOSCT gave us just that. We will be back, you can bet your cat on it.

Absolutely excellent. The staff are so friendly and accommodating and more than happy to help. We’ve been waiting 18 months to come here and weren’t disappointed. The only downside was that ONE of the toilets was absolutely filthy. Other than that it was perfect in every way.

5* popcorn. I’ve been a mixologist for 12 years and think this is now, my new favourite cocktail bar. What an amazing place. Thank you so much to Alex with the tatts, phenomenal service & thank you to sammy for slamming every Cocktail perfectly for us through the whole light. Spent £150 here in three hours. A REAL COCKTAIL BAR, also big thanks to Alex our host who guided us on our journey. Sounds pricey. Worrrh EVERY PENNY.

The bar man was so rude. We didn’t see the sign in the entrance, neither did the couple in front of us, and he told us off and told us to go wait upstairs in a super rude way. We obviously missed it by accident and he told us off and made us go wait upstairs when it was a Sunday evening and was half empty.

LOVED this place! When I told someone I was going to London, they said that I HAD to go to this place. My friend also heard it from one of her friends so we decided to go. Hands down, a great experience and wonderful atmosphere. Drinks were fabulous. I had the "Tea with Mayor" - I can't recall the correct name but that's pretty close. If you go to London.....please go visit the Mayor. You will love it!

Tried to pop in on a whim with my other half after dinner nearby because I'd never been and he had before and thought I would enjoy it. Staff on door were great, noted we had no booking but not an issue we could have a table. Got taken downstairs, put at a table and a menu and some water supplied. I picked my cocktail, partner still perusing the menu and put his torch on because he's short sighted and couldn't read the menu properly in the darker light...which is when it all went wrong, the waiter decided he was "too drunk" wouldn't serve him and told us to leave. We were in there less than 10 minutes, baffled as to the short shrift and went elsewhere to enjoy our night. The cocktails might be nice, I'll never know because I absolutely won't return.

Great idea let down by a very un helpful and unfriendly waiter. He really gave the impression he didn't want to be there and ruined the whole experience. They are charging premium prices for the cocktails so give a premium service.

Such a gorgeous little secret tucked away. Wonderful cocktails and great staff, just make sure you book in advance! Always look forward to seeing the Mayor!

I was so excited the first time I got in, however tonight we were waiting for about half an hour inside with no one greeting us asking for the password. I am truly sad, the Mayor was so unforgettable last time and the drinks are one of the most amazing I've ever tasted...

Made a reservation to “see the mayor” with my friend and our two daughters who just turned 21. We all absolutely loved it! Such a different thing to do. The girls were v excited to walk through a fridge into a speakeasy! The staff were all warm and friendly, service was great, as were the cocktails and the fries! And the venue itself was super cool, intimate and had a great buzzy vibe. I also loved the old Smash Hits magazine pages on the bathroom walls! Would def return.

Customer beware!.... Grossly overpriced cocktail.. Glass is over 50% ice😳... It promises lots but delivers a pretty dissapointing experience!... Try it if you will but it's a thumbs down from me👎

You will enter the bar through the fridge which doubles as a door. The atmosphere is excellent. it's a speak-easy bar and the cocktails are great. Make sure you have a reservation when visiting the place.

We took an amazing holiday to London and Scotland. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Such a wonderful place. Great hostess, bartender, and just all around a great time. We were there on a night that the grill was closed, so we didn’t eat there. (which we knew it wouldn’t be open, no surprise) Walking through the refrigerator was very cool. (No pun intended!) I recommend, if you ever get to London this needs to be on your to do list! You won’t be disappointed!

Drinks were okay, a bit strong flavoured and needed mellowing out. Great experience but would review the cocktails.

It was my first time there, celebrating my birthday. The host could not have been more gracious, welcoming, fun and patient with my many questions. I loved the whole vibe and environment, and the cocktails were DELICIOUS! I had an amazing time and will definitely be coming back!

This is a fun thing to do. Secret entry to a secret bar - what’s not to love. Small snug venue with character. We went for a late lunch and drinks. The food menu is limited. The addition of loaded fries or something like that is needed. What we did eat was nice though. Cocktails are good and a large range of ones that are a bit different. Worth a visit

I’ve come here on two separate Saturdays, just to be told that downstairs is fully booked. Don’t bother.

We had VERY BAD experience last night. We booked our table in advance and when we arrived, they asked us to wait for 20 minutes and we noticed many people who came late were led in before us. Then they asked us to provide the bank card information and BRP first, so we didn’t get in. I don’t understood why bank card is requested even though they had verified my card details I booked my desk. They were VERY RUDE to us and interrupted me all the time when I was talking. They didn’t apologise for keeping us waiting for 20 minutes, and didn’t accepted any advice from us. They should check bank card and ID first before asking people to wait.

I just had to write about the AMAZING staff at this bar! I just went tonight with my friend & the AWESOME lady who let us in was beyond lovely! Her warmth was everything! Love her! Then the lady who served us our drinks was agajn just so sweet! Honestly felt really cared for - top stars! X

weird little place. they took a card behind the bar when your sat drinking which is odd or a throwback to 30 years ago. The card I gave them had expired anyway. we had one round and moved on, drinks were expensive as is not uncommon and the addition of a 12.5% "service charge" was ludicrous (and subsequently removed)

My visit with the mayor was great! I was late to my reservation (got off at the wrong tube stop) and they were very kind and understanding. The menu was simple, but everything tasted great.

Loved the speakeasy vibe and secret entrance to the bar, we were a group celebrating a hen do so had the boozy brunch and everyone was super happy with the amount of alcohol per person rather than when you have to sit and wait for drinks to keep being poured when you feel like you're not getting enough for the money, definitely not that way here! Food was great and really good portions and the atmosphere was fab. Would definitely recommend Also very helpful in regards to booking in advance and any changes that needed making for the day

Always have a nice evening here. It’s exciting to go somewhere “different”. The staff are super friendly and it’s a nice experience for a special occasion. You do need to book in advance as it does get busy. Tables sittings are for an hour and a half so you can’t stay all night. However, there’s lots of other bars near by. Liverpool Street Station is a two minute walk. Cocktails are priced between £10-£15, a little expensive but probably standard for London these days.

What a fun place! We had reservations, showed up early, and showed proof of our reservation. That goes a long way, people! lol. We thought we were able to get dinner there, but it turned out that it was drinks only. Not a problem, we stayed for a drink, enjoyed our time, and then headed out for dinner.

Average, overpriced cocktail bar. It needs a theme to be able to charge prices they do, because apart from the password and going through a fridge, it's no different to other bars. (Cocktails are the same price as city/rooftop cocktails). Music is too loud, service slow. Only 1 bartender on despite them knowing how many bookings there were that evening. We waited 15-20 mins every time to make an order, then last round of drinks arrived and we were told we had 20 mins to drink up and vacate table. We moved to the bar and then saw no one arrived to sit at our table. Food OK, just had chips. Saw that the buckets of popcorn sold for £5 are the multipack popcorn you buy in supermarkets tipped out!

What a great find. Called ahead to see if we would be able to get in "to see the mayor". We were taken through the Smeg fridge door... so quircky!!! The service we received was absolutely fantastic from both the members of staff who looked after us during our time there. Fantastic choice of cocktails....so lovely to see some alternatives to the usual menus. My daughters Popcorn cocktail was so cool and the Tikki cocktail I had was one of thr best I have ever tasted. Thank you all for making my daughters birthday one she definitely won't forget x

Cocktail bar which is entered through a fridge door located in the breakfast club. Staff were all very friendly and the service overall was good. We didn't have a booking but chanced it on late on a Friday evening. We had a couple of drinks before closing time. The drinks, although a little pricey were actually very good and had a flavour combination for most people. The waiter also gave some good advice on what to order. The music was a bit loud and it was very dark so it was difficult to soak up the atmosphere as much and I struggled to hear my friends. There wasn't any specific theme which is a trick slightly missed as it would have really added to the atmosphere.

Kleine hidden Bar, die sich unter dem Breakfast Club befindet. Man muss der Kellnerin ein Passwort nennen und gelangt dann durch einen Kühlschrank in der Bar. Das Ambiente ist sehr ausgefallen und es herrscht eine tolle Atmosphäre! Die Cocktails waren hervorragend - wenn auch etwas teuer. Das Personal war äußerst freundlich.

In a short trip to London, we chose this bar for a cocktail night and were more than impressed with everything. Great choice and experience.

A basement speakeasy located under The Breakfast Club. A reservation is highly recommended. Once you enter the secret entrance, you will arrive at a small underground bar. I opted to sit by the bar to watch the bartenders perform their magic. Each drink comes with a unique decor! I enjoyed The Merchant. Would return to try other drinks in the future.

Lovely hidden cocktail bar through the fridge door. Cocktails cost from £10-£15 and the two we had were really nice. Staff super polite too. We wore shorts and T-shirts so no dress code.

Racist encounter at this location. I never made it past the fridge door.. This happened a few weeks before the Brexit vote. My husband and I are a mixed race couple. We flew to London for a friend's wedding and came across an online article about The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town. Traveled from Mile End area to check it out, but were told when we got to the restaurant that the back room was at capacity so we could go no further than a drink at the regular bar/restaurant. We didn't think anything was amiss so we ordered drinks. In the course of the 35 minutes we had drinks, we watched 15+ people wander in off the streets and through the fridge door. No one stopped them, and no staff even spoke to them as they entered. So, after paying our tab, I got up and reached for the fridge door to go in (I was trying to be slick about it). Immediately stopped by the same male server. Was told they were at capacity, just like before. Obviously, I protested. But he was adamant and, in the end, did I really want to go into a hidden back room where I might encounter more people who didn't want us there? Could this have been a misunderstanding, or just the attitude of 1 staff member and not representative of the company as a whole? Entirely possible. But that server did a bang up job of making me feel discriminated against and offered no believable explanations for denying me entry.

Apart from the fridge entrance there was nothing special about the place. 80s vibe with middle aged people. It is also very stuffy in the basement and quite small. They took the card as a security, which was quite weird, despite I have made a card booking. The cucumber water fill up was appreciated, the the cocktails were nice. The hype was greater than the experience unfortunately for me.

Amazing secret coctail bar, hidden under the Breakfast Club. You will have the Narnia moment after you say you’re there to see the mayor and they will take you through the fridge door to the basement :) The vibe is great, also the music and the service and the cocktails are fantastic, too!

Feels a bit over hyped. Was a bit grimey. Had a mocktail thay the barman made a mocktail for me, I asked for something creamy and fruity, it was amazing. Tastes like coconut cream and cherry syrup. Staff are efficient and helpful.

This place is crazy. You enter by the fridge after telling a password at the entrance. You'll find yourself in a speakeasy under the Breakfast Club. The drinks were really on point: tasty and delicious. The Mayor is super polite and even the girl with red hair at the entrance who reserved me the table was extremely kind and smiling. When I'll be back in London I'll go for sure to this place again

We are always looking for a fun speakeasy while traveling and The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town pulls off that fun and funky vibe in a big way. Enter this basement venue through a 1950s style refrigerator door in a restaurant called The Breakfast Club after asking staff, "to see the Mayor." The dim lighting and kitchy decor add to the experience. Prices were fair for craft cocktails of this quality. We chose drinks from the menu and also asked for an off menu request and all were good flavored and well presented. We did grab a few appetizers that were quite tasty but seemed like small portions for the price. Lovely time was had. Make reservations for a guaranteed spot.

Bellissimo speakeasy nascosto all’interno del frigo del Breakfast club. Per entrare è necessaria una password da dire all’ingresso. Noi siamo venuti di sabato sera alle 21:30 e ci siamo accomodati subito nonostante non avessimo una prenotazione. Si viene accompagnati all’interno del locale dalla ragazza che si trova all’ingresso del Breakfast club. All’interno l’atmosfera è fantastica, con luci soffuse e decorazioni molto particolari. I drink costano un bel po ma sono veramente buoni. Prima di ordinare ci è stata chiesta una carta di credito (sulla quale non sarebbe stata fatta nessuna transazione ne pagamento), che ci è stata ridata al momento in cui abbiamo ordinato e pagato i drink. Per uscire dal locale bisogna passare tramite il bagno, risalendo nel Breakfast club sovrastante. Mi raccomando una volta tornati sopra comportatevi come se foste appena usciti dal bagno 🤫🤫🤫 Volete vedere il sindaco?

Enjoyed my stay, but was a bit overhyped and overpriced.

Staff: 60% chaotic, 30% badgering for orders, 10% unorganised. Food: 30% spice sauce (on everything), 20% oily, 50% sharers. Drinks: 80% delicious cocktails, 20% delicious toppings.

L’idée est très bonne mais malheureusement personnel discriminants. On m’a refusé l’accès sous prétexte qu’ils étaient complets et que je n’avais pas de réservation. 5 minutes après nos amis ils y vont et on les laisse rentrer sans aucun problème.

We tried to book and was put in a virtual queue. We travel a long way to be greated by a very unhelpful young man who didn’t care at all . He said no it’s full and that’s it . The restaurant was completely empty.. there was no interaction at all . We were 2. Mums and 3 teenagers. I am absolutely shocked by the lack of customer service and feel they will lose customer s if they continue like this . I would love to visit the fridge but now after the greeting we got I would not go nor recommend it . Such a shame

It had been a while since I last visited this fantastic speakeasy. Was lucky enough to visit when it wasn't too busy and got a table. Staff and drinks as fantastic as always! When I'm local I shall always visit the Mayor!

Cool idea, entrance, and decor of a hidden bar. Expensive drinks but that's what you get when you go to a speakeasy style bar.

Terrible!! Diabolical, unreasonable, uppity front of door staff. Do not book. They are happy to take a £40 booking fee then refuse entry giving baseless reasoning. Then withhold the booking payment. If I could give less than 1 star I would. In response to your fabricated reply: To say we were completely intoxicated and in a state is beyond a joke. Obviously trying to cover the fact you and your staff have no clue how to run a door. Rude & obnoxious doormen and management. You run a cocktail bar and take bookings for 10:30pm on a Friday night then refuse entry if people have consumed the slightest amount of alcohol. Joke!! WARNING Do not try to attend if you have dared to have a couple of glasses of wine with your dinner!!

The cocktails aren't anything special. The main attraction to this place is the novelty of how you enter. Through a fridge in The Breakfast Club.

Extremely rude is the only way I can describe it, looks like I'm not the only one! We turned up and no one was at front of house, we waited a while then headed downstairs to see if we could find someone, only to be told to wait upstairs...we did. A staff member came back up with us and said they were fully booked (which was fair enough) the attitude and tone of voice was so off. I suggest having staff out front for when people arrive if you want us to wait there, we were genuine people and didn't rob the place, might not be so lucky next time.

After visiting some other speakeasy’s, I got a reservation for this place. It’s nice and I like the entrance. Drinks were also pretty good. Food was a nice option to have, as most places don’t serve food. A few reasons for the 4 stars. Lighting was almost too dim and noise level quite high. I don’t love that they took my card right when I was seated. Not like anyone is going to leave without paying. Service was a bit slow, I barely got two drinks in 1.5 hours. They put a service charge on the bill and I didn’t love the use of crushed ice in cocktails. It really takes away from a quality drink when you overfill work crushed ice. Worth checking this place out but there are better options.

Loved the people and the place :)

My friend took me here as a surprise birthday treat and I loved it! The hostess was lovely and started the experience off really well. Downstairs in the bar the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The drinks were delicious and the presentation was second to none. It is expensive but only a couple of pounds more than a "normal" cocktail in London so not too bad! The whole setting was just fabulous. We ended the evening in the breakfast club upstairs. The food was delicious and the staff again were really pleasant. 10/10, we had a great time!

Came here for drinks, expecting a nice speakeasy vibe. We ordered three cocktails, where two of them had an absolute excess of ice. Prices were on par with Tayer+, the second best cocktail bar in the world.. One star comes at the end, as there is a 10% service charge that it is mentioned nowhere in the menus. Great idea, great setting, horrible execution.
