Have always come to maxwells when in London and today was very disappointed, terrible service, a menu that has been severely cut back and managers who didn’t seem to care less

The food ranged between tasteless (cheesecake) to mediocre (ribs) to excellent (prawns). I was truly surprised at the cheesecake. It wasn’t just that it wasn’t to my taste, it was that it looked amateurish. The crust was weird and rock hard and the presentation wasn’t great (see photo). The ribs didn’t fall off the bone (forgot to take a photo). The prawns were delicious. The music is loud, the staff are attentive, If sometimes forgetful. We had a good time.

SO there was no service , no water bought to table offered drinks they did not arrive , chips was hot steak was cold not a good experience , was not happy to pay a service charge as there was none , wont re visit , felt all a bit rushed and mad food not to return for im afraid !!

A great family restaurant. Lots of choice for the children and adults. Delicious menu. Our go to restaurant in London. Enjoy every time we visit!

Unfortunately I didn’t have the best meal. We was sit in the restaurant for about 20 minutes before we was asked what we wanted to drink or eat. I understand it was very busy so I didn’t complain l, but needs to be quicker. I then was recommended the ribs and told they fall off the bone but instead they was cooked, but not enough as they didn’t fall off the bone and was very tough. Also not enough sauce. Chips were okay. My starter of Mac n cheese balls were nice. My partner also had the burger and it was very average aswell. I feel bad giving this review but I feel the quality needs to be better during busy times like Xmas so you don’t ruin the reputation.

Food and atmosphere were both good, but the service was very poor. Waited a while for our starter and waited even longer for our main course. The manager did take off the service charge and reduced our bill by £15. Shame really because it could have been a much better experience for us.

We’ve visited Maxwells a number of times now and have never had any complaints, the food and service have always been great, the guy who served us on our latest visit was attentive, polite and made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant was extremely busy, so busy we couldn’t wait in the restaurant bar area when we arrived a little early for our booking, but despite how busy it was, the service and food were still great.

I have used Maxwell’s for years and they never disappoint The food is always lovely and the staff are very accommodating and friendly It’s my go to restaurant in the west end .

We ate here after a visit to the theatre. 6 of us, it was very busy, we had to wait 5 to 10 mins for our table , that was pre booked. So we moved away from the door as it was cold and congested and sat near the bar and ordered drinks. The table was ready before we got all the drinks, although I don't think it was our original destination table wise, and as it was it was straight opposite the door, which was kept open most of the time we were eating, which made it a little cold and uncomfortable. Could of asked to be moved I suppose but it was so busy, it seemed a hassle. Food was great though and it's a nice place for an American diner, would definitely visit again.

This restaurant is an absolute gem! The service is warm and personable. The food is amazing—bursting with flavor, good portions and well presented. For London, the value is resonable, proving that top-notch quality doesn’t have to break the bank. Highly recommended for a memorable meal! (One niggle, the music was a bit loud at first for my old ears :) )

This place is very busy but the staff is wonderful and the food is great. We are an American family so we went there for their Thanksgiving menu which was really good, so we went back the next night for their regular menu. We were not disappointed!

We sat down for a quick beer at the counter. The climate was pleasant, seeing other customers' dishes pass by I must say that it intrigued me because they seemed very tasty and well presented, I will return if possible.

Third time visiting this restaurant. Consistently good. Staff so friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. Good good, hot, arrives quickly. Wioletta our waitress very helpful.

The service was frustratingly bad. Felt like we were invisible!

It is what it says on the tin, lovely American fare, we really enjoyed the burgers and especially the ribs.

The food is lovely. We really enjoyed the food. The staff also went out of their way to seat us earlier which was really good. The atmosphere was also nice, although it was packed, very busy. The starters took a long time to come out, and the sharing nachos were nice but they have massively reduced their portion with this. The mains also took a long time to come out and there was confusion when the food came to us as to whether it was ours, it was then taken away and then brought back again. We were also rushed at the end as our table was needed as it was so busy. There was then a £20 service charge. So the service experience was mixed. The atmosphere was okay. The food was very good. It was not the same as it used to be when they were at their old venue.

Service was fine but the food was very average. My wife’s wagu burger was so dry she had to ask for sauce to be able to finish it. The ribs I ordered lacked flavour too

Had a fantastic birthday dinner at Maxwell’s. This is our go to restaurant in Covent Garden and 3 times in 4 weeks. The food is fabulous, although we always have the same as it’s soooo good (fajitas and a burger) But what makes this place stand out is the service. The staff are always happy and willing to help. They go far above and beyond. We’ll be back again soon. Thank you Max and your team.

Fab all round. Quick lunch before theatre, full gluten free menu. Manager coeliac so fully understood cross contamination. Fab meal, service and atmosphere. We were in and out in under an hour which is just what we needed.

Absolutely delicious. The Big Max smash burger was the best I’ve tasted in London and way better than Honest Burger. Their lunch time week day offer is great value too. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Really nice restaurant and food. Have used it the last couple of times we’ve ventured into London, both with and without kids. Every time staff are friendly and food is great we have booked all the times we’ve been, just ok make sure we could get a table

Good pre theatre meal although the starter could have been a bit warmer

Awful. Staff forgot to put our order through and then continued to lie that it was 'on it's way', 'just coming' etc. After waiting 1hr we demanded the manager. Manager very sweet and helpful, but it was too late at this point. She rushed the order through within 10min but we were now already late for our show. Manager did give 25% off, but food was bland and average. Poor service, poor food, but lovely manager.

Unfortunately we waited about 15 minutes to get served once we sat down but it was very busy, all staff were very busy. We waited a while for the starters but when I did tell our waiter that we had a show to go to and could he bring the mains at the same time as the starters he obliged and was very helpful and we got out on time. All in all good experience, food and cocktails amazing and staff so friendly even under pressure.

My husband and I visited for my birthday. Maxwells was a restaurant I had visited many times during the 1980s when it was located at its former Covent Garden location. Looking to recreate a former experience I was nervous it wouldn't live up to my memory but I needn't have worried. From the moment we arrived the staff took interest and gave me a fantastic birthday meal out. Table location was superb, food was amazing and the service was faultless. The 'birthday brownie' with its sparkler was fun and a really nice touch. As we left the staff rang the bell behind the bar and then everyone sang Happy Birthday which was lovely. It wasn't exactly how I remembered it, it was better. If you get the chance, you must visit this restaurant. Absolutely brilliant.

I had a day out in London recently with friends and had booked a table in advance just in case. Was seated as soon as we came in. The front of house gentleman was attentive, professional and courteous as well as the servers. Meal was gorgeous and very filling to a degree I couldn't eat it all. My friends had cocktails but I opted for the non alcoholic option which was lovely. Very clean establishment and busy atmosphere. A wonderful stop to rest, refresh and replenish ourselves. Reasonably priced £45 each with a starter, two drinks, and a main. Do ask for the separate set menu option which can be less expensive or a family offer. The only small disappointment was being seated at a booth which was quite drafty with the door open but the staff did try to keep the door closed and maybe the condiments could be on the tables as it was very busy and I asked three times for vinegar but all in all I would happily recommend the establishment so see you again next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

Have dined here many times, food & service always good, tonight service was good but food definitely not up to usual standard, it was extremely busy, had a couple of issues with the food which were sorted out quickly without fuss, staff really nice Toilets are always absolutely awful, tiny & not very clean.

Can here for lunch and via the fork app, the food is really good. I had the fajitas and the salsa was made from really tasty tomatos

Great place to eat even on a very busy Saturday. The staff were attentive, food arrived quickly and there was a great atmosphere about the place. Our party all ordered burgers, which were flavoursome and also catered for gluten free. Would visit again.

We have visitted at Haloween half term, 1st November just before 7pm. Couldnt decide where to eat at Covent Garden after a long day out. The restaurant looked spooky with haloween decoration, warm and inviting. We were greated by a lovely male staff member, with a very welcoming atitude, biiiig smile, polite manners, and treated me and my daughter like we are their regular customers (our 1st visit in fact). The restaurant was full and buzzing. We were offered to wait for a table and have some drinks to start with. We barely sat down to order drinks at the window, when we were taken to be seated super fast with a big smile on a managers face. Service was fabulous, despite the busy restaurant, table was freshly wiped, drinks & food delivered promptly. Wow !! All with friendly uplifting manner. Staff team work along the busy running manager was amazing. It felt really great to be in your restaurant. Food was warm and tasty. The restaurant temperature was just perfect. Well airconed. We had a quick chat with Erik at the end. Im unsure what the managers name is, (some customer feedback says Filipe, maybe thats him) white male, short dark blonde hair, wearing a black suit jacket, he is literally flying around 😀 and has super amazing smile, chearful atitude, Erik is hard working, polite, friendly profesional. Guys, well done. So much energy both of you. This is what great customer care looks like. True Gems. We will be back. Thank you.

Great place for a birthday with family, great music, great service.

They've refurbed it, but unfortunately still has mostly the same clientele. Food was poor. Drinks weren't far off London prices. We specifically spoke to the bar staff, before ordering, to make sure they would be playing the England game. They agreed saying it was first come, first serve and that they do claim to be a rugby showing pub. They then reneged 30 mins into the game to switch on some bottom half of the table Manc game. Just poor service.

We were a party of 4, arrived 8 minutes early ( that was me letting the team know, I’m a bit ocd with timing 😁 ). Fantastic service, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We were well looked after whilst drink orders were being made and then the food arrived. Oh my goodness, it was so tasty, plentiful and well presented. Thank you to the whole team at Maxwell’s. Very enjoyable evening. We had pre booked and arrived an hour early but were found a table immediately. Staff extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. One negative - food and plates could have been warmer.

Good was ok, I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich although it tasted nice only had 4 small pieces of meat. 1 half of the sandwich had no meat at all

Good food and service , very popular restaurant, worth a visit

Very very busy, the service was slow, and missing items. Starters came out quickly, then well over an hour for the main course. The food is standard fair, burgers, biege food etc. Way over priced for what it is, the only difference to here & Frankie & Bennys would be the price difference. The only positive would be the location.

Food excellent, but part of the order never arrived, so service was a little patchy at best. But for a Central London venue it’s well located and with a punchy menu well executed.

Always had excellent food & great service previously. This wasn’t the same tonight, burgers & fajitas tasted good, but were only barely warm and onion rings very greasy. Minimal service & friendly chat, it lacked the warm cheery ambience & excellent hospitality ambience. If the food hadn’t tasted good, I’d have complained more vigorously!

Nice vibe. Food tasty but burger could have been hotter. No soap in toilet and could have been cleaner. Lots of friendly staff but we had to call for a drink. Overall nice.

We visited the restaurant today for lunch. We had a fantastic time and all the food was great. Our waiter was attentive and received a fantastic service. They made it extra special when they brought a cake out and sang happy birthday to my husband. We had mentioned we were celebrating a birthday but weren't expecting that. We will certainly recommend the restaurant to others when visiting the area.

We had Krishna as a sever. It was my friends birthday and he brought out a dessert with a sparkler. Really amazing atmosphere, food and drinks. The service was 100/10 loved it!!!

Booked in advance for 4 adults and 2 children. Got seated quickly in a comfortable booth downstairs. It was incredibly noisy, loved the music but it was too loud as customers had to shout to talk to each other Expect it was very busy. Our waiter had to take our order with a pencil and tiny notebook, no wonder he got it wrong. If he had repeated it back, we would have known that our youngest meal was not on the order. Even though asked several times it arrived as we were leaving - home in doggie bag - free I would check your bill as there was a mistake on that too. I put this down to pressure on the waiting staff - not enough. Food was excellent.

All starters and main courses were of excellent to very good quality. (There was four of us). Good portion sizes, and plenty of variety on the menu. We also managed two sweets the cheese cake was excellent. Very busy during our visit waiting staff helpful and on the ball. Changed our table for a quieter location.. drinks all served correctly. Great atmosphere. Compliments to the chefs and kitchen staff on serving us great food. Thank you.

Typical English dinner: hamburger and chips. They have a wide choice of burgers from the simplest to the more structured ones. They also have a vegan burger option (which I got) and it's really good. The fries are excellent, perfectly fried and not greasy. They also have great variety of beers and cocktails. The waiters are kind, friendly and attentive. The location is also perfect for taking a trip to Covent Garden afterwards.

Portion size is smaller than you would expect for the price you pay. Overall the place is nice and staff are very friendly.

We were waited on by Sorina; the loveliest waitress. She was so nice and welcoming. The drinks were good and the atmosphere was really nice.

Today we had the amazing staff at Maxwells restaurant. Samantha, Filipe and Erick Their service and attention to detail at each customer is unbelievable. I personally never seen such great working team in helping each other. All we can said is thanks to Filipe and Samantha to make us feel great.

The restaurant is beautiful and the food excellent but it’s really too noisy. It was my husband’s birthday and I told it when I booked and they didn’t paid attention at it. Very bad point!
