We had heard about the Sunday lunch at this restaurant so decided to give it a try , Wow it certainly picked well the food and service from entering to leaving was amazing we had the 3 course meal and everything was tasty hot and presented really good the staff are so attentive and friendly we will definitely be back and try some of the other meals they all looked lovely.

Having booked a table of 16 (various ages from 12 - 90) we were apprehensive that the restaurant would be suitable for us all. We had no need to worry! Jim and his team of staff were fantastic from the minute we stepped into the restaurant to the minute we left. Nothing was too much trouble for them and their attention to detail was spot on. The food was also delicious and we will be back very soon!

Tried Easter Sunday lunch at The Maven and we have come away very happy indeed. Moved our booking back an hour and team were happy to accommodate at short notice. An absolute bargain at 2 courses for £19.95. Plenty of choice and well catered for children with a varied menu. Serving staff were so kind and friendly and were understanding about some of our party only having small portions due to health issues. Food piping hot, meat delicious and extra gravy a welcome addition. Cheese board to finish which was huge - more than enough for two. Presented beautifully. Tiny touches would be good - side plates for cheese, tea spoons for coffee etc but only minor things. Overall, a lovely family Sunday. Thank you Maven Team for working Easter so we could enjoy ours.

Just had a family Sunday lunch at The Maven, 14 of us, to celebrate a birthday. The staff were brilliant they couldn't do enough for us and the food was amazing, will definitely be back.

On November 18, 2023, I visited Maven along with some friends to celebrate a special occasion; however, our experience was marred by terrible food quality. The steak was extremely gristly and filled with sinew, and the food was served cold. Following this, I sent a formal complaint to the restaurant manager on November 19, 2023. Within two days, the manager responded, offering apologies and suggesting a replacement meal, which I declined due to the magnitude of the disappointing experience. Instead, I expressed my desire for compensation and was assured by the manager that they would discuss this with management and recontact me. Despite my patience and despite sending follow-up emails on November 28, December 4, and December 6, 2023, I did not receive any further response or resolution regarding compensation. It's regrettable that the management's unresponsiveness has left this matter unresolved and unsatisfactory.

Been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. With the August summer 2/3 course £15/20 - you simply had to try it. Great choice of food - The chef was a proper chef as the food was perfect. The serving staff were attentive and friendly. Great venue in a great location

Lovely restaurant located within the Vermont Hotel offering up to 3 courses Sunday Lunch for around £26. Dishes we had included a salt and pepper squid, beef and chicken roasts and rhubarb and pear crumble with custard. The ladies added a cauliflower cheese to the usual Sunday roast veg. No complaints at all with the food, service and drinks. Real shame the place was almost empty. I suppose you’d have to know it’s there otherwise it’s easy to just ignore it. Some nice views to Tyne Bridge from some tables.

Well presented, delicious food. Lounge where we ate was lovely - very nice atmosphere. The doorman was very inviting and pleasant. My review would have been 5 stars had it not been for the service - or lack of it. The waitress seemed very pleasant however her waistcoat, skirt and tie were stained. No one wants to be served food by someone wearing dirty clothing. After we were given our food no one came to check on us. No waiting staff appeared in the lounge at all, despite at least four tables being occupied. We eventually had to go to the reception desk and ask for water & coffee. When it arrived there was no room on the table because of the dirty dishes which had not been cleared. The waitress asked us to move things to make a space for the water and coffee. She said she would come back with a bigger tray to clear away the dishes. She never came back. We once again had to go to reception and ask if our dirty dishes could be cleared. A different waitress came and took away out dirty plates and asked if we would like clean napkins and cutlery for our sweets. We waited so long for these we used our coffee spoons and tissues. We would have mentioned these points on the day however not once did any member of staff ask us if everything was ok. Really poor.

For the second time this year, we went for Sunday lunch at Maven at 3pm yesterday , this time we went straight in not to the Redwood bar 1st and from entering the restaurant to leaving, the service was perfect from Sid who is an absolute professional at customer service and looking after what matters. We ordered our drinks from him and they came quickly and perfectly presented as he definitely 'listens' and engages with you personally. We ordered our starters and mains and he answered our question immediately on a menu item as the menu starters had slightly changed since our last visit so I even had a starter instead of a dessert this time as couldn't resist. You can have a 2 or 3 course meal and usually for me it's a main and dessert but yesterday I chose an amazing new starter, 2 courses £21.95. Our food came perfect, hot and beautifully presented, we had 1 slow cooked beef and 1 chicken dinner with a perfect yorkshire pudding and we did ask for an extra little gravy boat and mint sauce eventhough it's beef not lamb, I know !....Thank you Sid for a top notch service, we have just come back from a cruise where dining was impeccable, and this is also what we got yesterday. We will be back, with friends who haven't been yet.

We have now tried virtually every option on the menu and have found all to be excellent value and supplemented by pleasant, attentive staff.

Three of us went here on Thursday lunchtime, we were all very impressed. The location was lovely as was the tree. The staff could not have been more friendly and the food was very tasty, I had the Christmas lunch which was one of the best ones I have had in a longtime, served piping hot. The only thing that was missing was the Christmas music! We would definitely go back, excellent staff food, value for money and location

Visited this week for a Christmas lunch with the girls and I have to say it was dreadful. From sitting down at our booked time, it was one and a half hours later before the main meal was served and when it came, all 4 meals were stone cold and had to be returned. We then had another long wait before it eventually arrived and it certainly wasn’t up to the standard of Xmas dinners I have previously had there. We got no compensation, didn’t even give us our bottle of wine for free and still added their service charge to the bill. I can understand a long wait when it’s busy but there was only 3 tables of customers. Would not recommend at all and certainly won’t be going back.

I have never left a negative public review of anywhere I have eaten in as I believe most situations can be handled in-house without publicly shaming a business. But the new manager at the Vermont after only being there for two weeks was too afraid to resolve the problems we encountered this afternoon so unfortunately I will have to leave this review to warn others about the Maven restaurant. We visited today for a special birthday lunch. The staff in the restaurant are all very young and it appears they are inexperienced too which led to a multiple of things going wrong. First they had made an error with the table reservation for lunch so when we arrived at the time our table was booked for we were asked to wait in the main bar so they could arrange a table for us as they has made a mistake with the table plan in the dining room. We didn’t mind waiting for a few minutes but 25 minutes later we were finally shown to a table. It was in the corner of a dark room and clearly an after-thought. We ordered our food and after 10 minutes from ordering the waitress came back to the table to say the vegetarian option wasn’t available. This should have been pointed out as soon as we made the order as now we are an hour behind time and getting really hungry. The menu is very limited for vegetarians so we asked for Fish & Chips with a plain batter instead of a beer batter. We were told that would be fine. So the food eventually came out and the fish was brought out plain with no batter at all. We told the waitress that’s not what we ordered and this was now becoming a really awful and disappointing birthday meal. We ordered a pasta dish instead and continued to wait another 25 minutes for that too. In all that time the other people at the table were never offered a fresh plate of food or for their meals to be kept warm. We weren’t offered any drinks or ever checked on again. Finally we ate cold and very average food that didn’t deserve the price tag at all. Even if we had been seated on time, sat in the restaurant amongst other diners instead of a forgotten corner of the room, been told the meal choice wasn’t available and all been able to eat hot food together as a family the food after all of that was just uninteresting and poor value for money. We hoped we could all enjoy a dessert at the end of all of this and ordered the Sticky Toffee pudding. DO NOT ORDER THIS DESSERT. The sauce is overly salty. It was inedible. It was so strong and not like a ‘Salted-Caramel’ saltiness. It was as though someone switched sugar and salt by mistake. At the end of meal the waitress told us the manager was on his way to apologise and talk to us about how to make the whole afternoon better. So we waited and he didn’t come. So we paid the bill and went to look for the manager. And that just topped off this whole circus. The manager told us he was new to his role and had only been there for two weeks. He then said he couldn’t do anything other than apologise. Even McDonalds can refund a meal that’s gone wrong. Or at least offer to get fresh warm food when others are waiting overly long for theirs. Even managers in McDonalds can make decisions when customers complain and address them there n then. So to anyone looking for an enjoyable meal, special venue for a celebration or a treat for Sunday dinner do yourself a favour and avoid this place. It’s a waste of money and you will be paying to be disappointed. I’m so upset I chose this place for my birthday meal!! And even more upset the newly appointed manager was happy to let us leave feeling so disappointed and certain we would never return!

The quality of the food served today was wonderful. The portion size was generous. The staff were very attentive and extremely pleasant. The whole experience was terrific and highly recommended.

My wife and I along with another couple went for the Sunday Lunch and none of us left disappointed. Between us we tried 3 different meats and my own choice of beef was excellent which just fell apart when touched with the others having a similar opinion of the lamb and chicken and the rest of our meal also done to a high standard . Equally impressive were the staff who were very cheerful and attentive so all in all I would reccommend and will certainly return in the future

The surroundings are pleasant enough and the initial service was efficient. Once the meal had been delivered a courtesy call was made from a waitress regarding how things were. The meal itself was very pleasant. However the ‘Crispy Duck’ was not crispy at all. My partner mentioned this to the waitress, who then explained the the duck needed to be moist on the inside. My partner accepted that, not that the inside being moist was the issue, but again said that she expected the duck to be crispy on the on outside. The waitress was not convinced but said that she would talk to her supervisor. We heard whispering between the waitress and her supervisor but neither came and spoke with us and when paying the bill the supervisor, who had been involved in the conversation with the waitress and knew of the comments made, didn’t bother to ask how the meal had been. The meal itself was nice but I was disappointed that being asked for feedback, and providing an honest response, the feedback had been completely ignored. If an organisation truly wants to improve then it is imperative that if it asks for feedback then it needs to listen, not just hear the words and argue points of view, and take the feedback on board. In this case it was a wasted opportunity and consigns the restaurant to being the same as any other ‘middle of the road’ establishment. This response was disappointing for a restaurant attached to a four star hotel.

We booked a table at the Maven restaurant to celebrate our son’s university graduation, with his extended family. We particularly chose the Maven due to the variety of meals on offer. Our son is vegan and his grandparents prefer more traditional meals. Before booking the restaurant, we looked at the A La Carte and Vegan menus and decided that there would be options for everyone. However, when we came to order, we were told that there was no longer a vegan menu. This was extremely disappointing, as we would have booked a different restaurant with better selection of vegan choice for our son. There were only 2 vegan main course options on the Al A Carte menu. My son chose the Maven Vegan burger, as did I and my wife (as vegetarians). We have to say that this is one of the worst vegan burgers we have ever had. The burger was dry and tasteless, topped with sliced processed vegan cheese. I can get much better quality vegan burgers and cheese from our local supermarket. On a positive note, the staff were very helpful. The head waiter was particularly helpful in checking which Al A Carte menu options were vegan or could be modified to be vegan.

Visited during Restaurant week and were very. disappointed. Had visited on earlier Restaurant weeks and loved the choice of meals offered. However this time the menu was bland and boring. My calamari could have come out of the freezer it was so tasteless and a tiny portion. On previous visits the restaurant had been really busy and of good atmosphere, this time there were only a few tables taken and seemed desolate. Has there been a change of management/ kitchen staff? Would think twice about going in the future.
