Fish passable just, Cod bites nice but a bit expensive. Chips were potato peeling thin, and well over priced for the amount received. Witherspoons Fish chips and a drink, £7 50p. Bargain.

Consistently excellent cod and chips, service with a smile from all their staff and made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive, what more can you ask for!

Best fish and chips in St Albans (having been a customer of the Ridgeway and Camp Road before). Crispy fish in lovely batter. Just the right amount of chips. Still good value. Keep up the good work!

I have to give a 1 star review as you only use Uber Eats as a delivery service and they just cancelled my order after I waited 90 mins for it. Highly, highly recommend that you switch to Deliveroo.

Cod bites and small portion of chips is all I need. 4 cod bites and chips not long cooked, still quite hot but able to blow and eat. Just how I expect fish and chips to taste.

Staff are always so friendly and can keep many orders in their head. Big portions. Fish is so crispy.

Just got a portion of chips and a fried chicken breast and chicken leg. Absolutely amazing fried chicken this is what kfc wishes it tasted like. The chips were brilliant too. Great customer service which is all the boxes ticked which is why I gave 5 stars

Very expensive compared to other local fish and chip shops. It’s my local so from time to time I will give it a go but each time I’m reminded by the reasons I generally don’t frequent this chippie. I would prefer to walk 5 more minutes and buy from the town centre where the quality is the same but at least I don’t feel robbed!

We have been eating Master Fryer fish and chips for years. We just ate another superb meal and it prompted me to finally give a well deserved 5 star review. The fish is always fresh and ample and the chips finely cooked without grease. Topped off with mushy peas and tasty curry sauce. Finest … probably anywhere.

Not anymore 5 stars which is real shame as their Greek Cypriot Charcoal grilled menu was better than Greek restaurants in St Alban's. So this update due to Covid has sadly meant the above menu dropped and I am told unlikely to return which is real shame. So alas my family's custom is now occasional visits. So to get our Mediterranean fix we are now using a decent Turkish takeaway called Anatolia for Kebab's, which is on the Hatfield road, so this is a pain for convenience, but worth it as quality is good. But on the positive side for the Master Fryer their Fish and chips are still excellent quality, which if they had never introduced a Greek menu I would still give 5 stars. As always service with a smile 😊 and football expertise banter too. Please bring back the Greek Menu with the Charcoal grill? I want to post 5 🌟 again, really missing the swordfish. Cheers...

Get a chicken and mushroom pie with chips and curry sauce every couple weeks, always hits the mark, though the last time going there the card machine was broken, which wasn't disclosed over the phone.

We’ve been coming here for more than 10 years and it’s always been good. Kebabs, fish, chips are all excellent. Service is friendly and efficient despite the queues (especially on Friday). I was very surprised to see a negative review which actually prompted me to write this one.

I'm pretty much always here on a friday evening between 4 and 5 picking up my regular order and the guys and gal in the shop are fabulous. Always smiling and asking after me and my family. The food has always been good. I personally like their fried chicken...its better than most! the fish and chips are also excellent. I tried somewhere else recently and it was nowhere near as tasty as here. Keep up the good work guys!!

Had a cod and chips last night and it was fantastic, my wife is not s fan normally but she really enjoyed it as well. There prices on another website are out of date, can't remember which one, a takeaway delivery one? If it was not for that I would have given 5 stars. Worth the extra money.

Although a bit of a drive from where I stay, this is currently the best Chippy in the town. The other chippy near Morrisons had a major fire earlier this year and so far hasn't re-opened

We probably only have take away fish and chips once every six to eight weeks so although not frequent users whenever we do have fish and chips we use the Master Fryer. Last Friday we had 3 large cod and two medium chips, fish as always was lovely but the chips were not good at all, I hardly ate any, they were not at all nice. I put it down to a one off until my daughter went there on Saturday and exactly the same happened, fish good, chips not. What is going on Master Fryer, I have used you for years?

There is one huge problem with this wonderful, spotless, friendly chippy: it's not next door to my house. Sort it out guys.

Best fish, chip and kebab shop in St Albans. Run by 2 really welcoming and friendly guys. Nothing seems to much in how helpful they are. They really do have it all together there.

Fabulous authentic greek souvlaki

This Fish and Chip shop is number one in my eyes! The 3 brothers run an excellent shop, care about their customers and ensure the orders are processed efficiently. Consistent good quality, generous chip portions and, for a change, their greek meze, kebabs, dips and flatbreads make a pleasant change... keep up the good work!

Just been there tonight.Freshly cooked fish and a decent quantity of chips, are worth the money. I ordered x 2 cod and chips (to share the experience with my son based in Scotland). He was staggered by the quality and size of the cod. So was I. These people are at the top of their game re fish and chips (I have NOT tested anything else on offer). The batter was perhaps slightly underdone(?) Not crisp but was moreish. I have not had a better fish and chip experience. It is on a par with the best in the UK. They are marvellous at dealing with the obvious queue a top "chipper" attracts. The staff are the most professional I have met and everything works like clockwork. great fish and I can recommend.

Once again I visit The Master Fryer especially for the fish and chips.Everything is cooked fresh to order. Freshest, tastiest fish and chips, they got the best homemade sos ever.Fantastic service, always with a smile and good sense of humour.We love this place.

We have been coming here every few weeks for our Friday treat and it delighted me to see a certificate on the wall informing customers of the splendid oil they used to fry the chips. As a vegan it’s often a chore to find places that don’t use oils or ingredients containing animal products. It’s great to be able to join in the Friday fun and scoff delicious chips with the family! The guys are super friendly and were trying to find other foods I could eat (sharing a lettuce joke or two). The halloumi looked fab and there are some veggie option too. All in all a pleasant non judgemental buying experience!

Fab place to get a takeaway with a good variety of food. I especially love their Greek selection too. Would highly recommend and the staff are lovely too.

I think that master fryers is the best fish + chips shop in England. Not only do they have regular fish and chips they also do amazing grilled fish, kebabs, seafood and so much more. If you haven't tried it than your life hasn't truly begun!

Good chips and portion sizes not oily at all. Excellent fish selection not just your standard cod and haddock but swordfish and calamari or whatever speciality fish they have procured. Now onto meat...quality lamb, chicken and pork kebabs as well as greek sausages. Basically spoilt for choice!!!

Todos fueron caliente, la comida no estaba grasienta y una buena variedad de opciones en el menú nos dio más que pescado y patatas fritas. Tuve el pescado y patatas fritas y fueron muy agradables.
