I have to say! Best chip butty by far! I am from Lancashire and its better than ours.

Worst chips I've ever , nothing like the traditional chips I was brought up on. Won't be going there again.

I was surprised about a previous review as this is the only chippy that I would go to in New Mills. The staff are always friendly and the fish and chips is excellent. Does not ‘over-batter’ the fish and gives care and attention to detail in my experience.

I can honestly say this is the worst Chippy I've ever been to! The food went straight in the bin.

Called in when on the way home to Nottingham and glad we did. Lovely chips, and nice to get a steak pudding which we can't get from chippies at home. Tasty food, and a really friendly owner. If you need a good local chippy or one if you are passing, go here.

Dead atmosphere. No greeting from either the owner or the young girl serving despite me saying hello how are you, etc (customer service skills need work). Chips are tasteless and taste frozen, sausage is very poor quality full of gristle. Overall experience 2/5 if you're from new mills chances are you already know how bad this chippy is and use crispy cod I opted to try something else to see if the owner had changed his attitude or actually started to make better food, bad move the only change is an increase in price. won't be coming back again.

Service was a bit slow, but I think they were short staffed as it was early. The batter was nice and crispy, a bit different to animal fat chippies I'm used too, but definitely worth a visit and the fryer seems genuinely passionate about his craft. Good range of pies with gravy. I would go again.

Really nice fresh fish and chips. We ate in and were served promptly by the friendly owner and his staff.

First time I’ve ever been and will definitely be back The dine in area is clean and spacious, and the staff were lovely and helpful I had fish and chips and it was the tastiest meal I’ve had dining out in a long time! Fair pricing and top quality food, if you’re out doing the millennium walk or just fancy a ‘chippy tea’ this is the place to go!

Price list is not upto date inside chippy, very misleading. He has a leaflet on counter with correct prices Chips seemed like they came out of a freezer packet. Definately not freshly cut from potatoes

Owner very rude and unprofessional. Asked him how is business is doing and he replied Well it’s fish and chips isn’t it. I was only being friendly. I asked the same question to his predecessor some years ago he was a very nice chap I think he was Eastern European and we had a great chat and I loved his food. I have never been back since and have no intention going back.

We called into the Very Friendly Fish and Chip Shop today and I must say we were all impressed. 2 of us had The Fish, Chips, Mushy Peas and Curry Sauce. All cooked to perfection and not anaemic cooked Chips and the Fish had a golden crispy batter. The other person in our party ordered the Steak Pudding and said it was delicious. The owner who served us was very friendly. We are pleased we popped in and had some delicious Food and would recommended to others.

I don't know if I was unlucky, but I really didn't enjoy my fish and chips, the chips were hard, and the fish was greasy.. So unfortunately it was just average for me. On a plus note, the staff were friendly.

Had fish and chips today. The owner recommended Coley. I've never been a big fan of Coley, but I took the owners advice. I'm so glad I did. It was delicious,as were the chips. We had a great chat, as I have been in the same business running an award winning chippy in Penrith Very friendly , very clean . I would highly recommend

Called in here for some fish and chips on way through New Mills. Fish was tiny, all batter and hardly any fish, chips were hard and greasy.

We had the best fish (cod) n chips here since we were in Whitby. Really fresh fish, light crispy batter and cooked to perfection. We plumped for a small fish and for me it was plenty as we chose to have it with chips and mushy peas washed down with a can of dandelion and burdock, delicious. Fast friendly service too.

Excellent customer service. Owner's a friendly type by all accounts. This has been my go to chippy over the past couple of years. All I can say is Master Fryer still stands tall in my books. 👍

Been in a couple of times. But not been in for about three years, but it's the same good quality food at reasonable prices. The owner is a nice guy. Fish and chips are very good.

Really tasty and good quality food... the owner was so friendly and accommodating and fitted us into the restaurant shortly before closing.... we lucked into eating here and are very glad we did. Delicious and would definitely recommend!

Called in today 15-02- 2022, only the second time we have been in, it just gets better, now a choice of fish size, small, medium or large, three of us walked from marple to new mills, i would highly recomend a visit, lovely clean restaraunt friendly sevice great food.

This place is by far the best chippy in the high peak as well as stockport !! They do jacket potatoes to die for and I will travel far for . The fish is such a good size for the money and delicious and alway tasty chips and not shy on portion size. Reasonably priced,friendly staff and mostly EXTREMLEY clean !!! I would recommend this place to anyone ..

Absolutely the best fish and chips we've had in a long long time... We both had the mini fish and chips - the portions were perfect, the chips crispy on the outside, fluffy inside and the batter on the fish was amazing. Definitely coming again, thank you! 😋

Great service, a winter evening and the served us the food at no extra charge in the cafe, i would highly recommend a special burger with chilli sauce.

First time we have been here, the fish and chips were lovely, the restaraunt was lovey and clean, will definitely be calling again.

Called today first time, we had fish chips and peas and a cup of tea, the food was excellent, the staff were very friendly, the cod was top quality, it's well worth a visit.

Grabbed a fish on the way past. Very crisp thin batter freshly made to order and white flaky fillet was very nice... Will deffo call again... probably the most attractive battered fish I've ever had in 50yrs.

The fish and chips which The Master Fryer produces are the best I have ever tasted and believe me, I am a very tough when it comes to criticism of food. The owner was very friendly with excellent customer service. He also gave visiting information on the town. Absolutely excellent all round 11 out of 10.

We have family in New Mills so don't get to visit as often as we'd like, but when we do we always try and squeeze in a visit to the Master Fryer. The menu is good, and the food is excellent. Last visit we has 2 x kids meals, sausage, chips, and gravy and a burger and chips. Roger sells his fish as being 'you will enjoy this or your money back' and it certainly lived up to expectations. Was nice to get talking to Roger about the business too - overall a top experience and would highly recommend.

A little bit rude/blunt while taking order, but the food was great, solid 7/10.

Visited today on a visit back to New Mills. Very friendly and chatty owner who is obviously very proud of his food. And rightly so - the cod and chips were the best I have tasted in many years, a light tasty batter and beautifully cooked, melt in your mouth fish. The chips were also excellent. Highly recommended.

We have frequented this amazing chippy a number of times now. Always receiving a warm and friendly reception. The establishment is very clean. This is not your average chippy. The care and time spent on the sourcing, food preparation and delivery, really shows the owner takes pride in his chippy. This is the best chippy for miles. Well worth a visit. Quality fish cooked prefectly in a light batter and double cooked chips make for an outstanding chippy meal.

I visited New Mills in autumn last year. This café was incredibly comfortable with a menu for both children and adults. The owner is a very friendly and accomodating man and serves the best fish and chips I've ever tasted in England.

Very poor service. Was very rude and just ignored us as we stood in the que for at let 5mins! Too busy talking to the locals to serve! Chips looked like they had been double cooked too!

We nipped in for some takeout lunch and left a bit miffed. My wife ordered some fish ok, but when she asked for a jacket potato off the menu she was told this was to order only and they couldn’t do it....... my son asked for a large portion of chips and was told that they don’t serve large chips to children as these are usually meant for adults. Granted, he is only 10 but surly it’s our decision what he has - he wouldn’t eat it all anyway. We shouldn’t have to explain to the guy behind the counter that we’re actually sharing (more so because we couldn’t order a jacket potato). The chips that we did order were ok, it was just the service that we weren’t expecting.

Called in for evening meal on way to guest house. Burgers were great but the chips were very poor quality. Stuck to paper, cold, hard inside, full of stalks and eyes. Only ate few before chucking the rest away.

Staff rude food horrible batter like rock and burnt terrible

Called in here with a group of friends for an early evening meal before going on to the lantern parade. There seemed to be a number of regular customers who had called in for the same reason. Service was prompt and friendly. We had the small Fish and Chips and were pleased to discover that the price included a cup of tea or coffee and optional mushy peas. Small does mean small so this was a light meal for an adult and would serve as a child's meal as well. The fish was well cooked, the batter was light and crispy, and the chips included some quite long ones. I would happily return here when next in New Mills.

Best fish and chips in New Mills - food quality is superb.

Very good fish and chips. Not too much batter and chips weren't stodgy. Also had a good selection of art due to the local festival which was a nice touch. Service was excellent too with good craic.

Walked in to this place and was pleased to see and smell that it was non-greasy. We were promised that the Icelandic cod would be the best we’ve tasted or your money back! We ordered fish and chips for the adults and meat pies for the kids. The fish and chips were great and the service from Roger was friendly and personal. He takes a lot of pride in his business and it shows. He’s got a lot of interesting things to tell you about his home country of Brazil as well!

Excellent food, travel 7miles when there are plenty closer

We have just stopped for tea and had two cod and chips. Friendly, great fish and chips especially the fish was super fresh. My son says he was very impressed!

This used to be a great little chippy, that is until the new owners took over. Most of your main meals have gone up by £1-£1.50, Went in for large sausage & small chips which is £2.75 (not any more) it's now £4.80,sorry that's rose by £2.05 Needless to say I won't be returning any time soon, Crispy Cod up new mills is where I'll be going, at least they don't rip off their customers. Master Fryer, once a great chippy will soon go out of business.

Brilliant fish + chip shop: very good fish, in particular.

We went to this chippy to get some take out fish and chips. It has a dinning room as welll, but we did not have the time to go into this section this time.We were greeted by a friendly person. I ordered a large cod and chips, they used to do haddock but now do not regretably do this. The piece of fish in batter did not appear to be that large, the batter was light and crispy, the cod was very tasty, lovely big chips golden brown, with a mild decent curry sauce. My son had sausage and chips and gravy, commenting that this was one of the tastiest sausages he had from a chip shop.They do a range of pies, jacket potatoes and kebabs.Friendly service and prompt. Good value. well recommended.

A once rather revered fish and chip shop, by both locals and visitors alike, sadly, since it's recent managerial changes, this establishment has fallen dramatically from grace. Interaction from the staff is not only blunt, but verging on damn near ignorant. The menu is undeniably overpriced for the food in return, and the overall experience of dining here, or indeed taking away, is something of a lacklustre affair. It's clear why Crispy Cod in the town centre is, and always will be, levels above this place. Dramatic changes need to be made, and soon.

This place has changed hands a few times lately but the present owners are really good. Quality food and excellent portion sizes. Their kebabs are pretty perfect or kebab and chips even better. Highly recommended.

Terrible customer service !!! 10 minutes waiting, 3 staff, 2 people being served, they left and in the time I was there 2 more walked in (were asked what they wanted) I was dumbfounded and thought it was funny, I just left.. (to never return) This was once a good chippy with previous owners imo. Very insulting when others are chosen to be served but not you.
