We've used this chippy for years on & off and it's normally pretty good, but last nights dinner was really terrible and very expensive. Both the pieces of fish tasted dried, stale and the batter was extremely chewy, like the fish had been left on the top of the frier all night and they were just waiting for an unsuspecting customer to come in that's not one of the usual locals to palm it off with. The sausage we ordered was not there, which upset my daughter, who was really looking forward to it. The chips were pale and fairly undercooked and the scallops were a bit chewy too. The curry sauce was good though! We'll be getting dinner elsewhere in future. We even felt guilty giving the local birds the left overs in case it was too chewy and undercooked for them.

Nice little chip shop with friendly staff. We had fish and chips, chicken nuggets and a black pudding supper. All the food was lovely but the portion size of the black pudding was a little small I feel but maybe this was reflective of the price.

Gone down hill, ordered large chips and they was tiny! 2 pots of sauces forgotten- didn’t realise until I got home and noticed they was missing! Sausage was so pale I thought it was still raw! Really disappointed

Traditional chippy offering traditional fish and chips, pies, puddings, curry sauce (traditional and spicy), peas, etc. Fish is cooked to order, always the sign of a decent chippy, and the batter is crispy and tasty. I've been going most Fridays for a few years now, and the standard of the food is consistent and always good. The staff are lovely and friendly, even when it gets busy, which it does.

We are here on holiday and normally struggle to find fish and chips as good as our local, however The Fryery was as good, if not better. It was all fresh and hot, lovely crisp batter on the fish and the chips were excellent, even the pickled egg and curry sauce were good. Will probably have a second visit and would definitely recommend.

Have used this chippy before and have had great food. Goodness knows what happened this evening! Ordered fish, chips, and mushy peas. I ordered the fish fresh when I walked in. When we opened them at home, the chips looked and tasted as though they were3 weeks old. Hard, shrivelled, and tasted awful. The fish was tasteless, and the mushy peas congealed. Will not be returning.

We have come here for Years followed by a walk on the canal. The past few times we have been the portions have been getting smaller and smaller. Now they are shocking, this I'd a large chips £3+, small fish despite asking for a "Large" and poor flavours on the curry and gravy. We won't be going again and having the extra travel time to go somewhere else.

Food… not cheap and a very small piece of fish In terms of length and thickness. Batter was not crispy but a hard shell around the fish that took some cutting through. Service … slow. It was not very busy and i only ordered a simple meal for one. Took between 10-15 for my food to be ready. Staff looked busy and it was hot but their frostiness left me feeling that was somehow my fault.

The cod was cooked to oblivion and disintegrated upon contact with the mouth due to all the oil that had seeped through the woefully soggy and depressing batter. It just tasted like oil, I never tasted the fish. The battered sausage was greasy and the inside disintegrated to mush instantly, whilst the skin was so tough I almost needed a steak knife to cut through it. The sausage taste was slightly more noticeable than the fish, but still more oil than actual flavour. The chips weren't bad at all though which was an unexpected surprise, so I must pay them their dues for that. In summary, if you're forced to eat here then just stick to the chips. This 'plaice' is clearly just going through the motions and not taking any pride in the cooking and quality of their food, and the fact that this chippy has a 4.6 rating shows that 90% of the people who eat here don't care about the quality of their food either. I'm giving it 2 stars because of the chips, otherwise it would be worse. I hope they read this and make the decision to develop and improve their batter, and also give the cooking process the care and attention it deserves as everything is far too oily right now. If your business is fish and chips, then you've got to at least do both of those things well.

First time we have ever enjoyed takeaway fish n chips. The chips were lovely and yellow, not the brown mush that is often served by chippies. Everything was really fresh, no grease in sight. Batter was light and tasty and didn't leave our sensitive tummies upset at all. And very friendly staff. Will be coming to the area for a walk again so we can return! :)

Got the best fish and chips ever from this amazing chippy. My son and daughter-in-law had haddock, chips and curry sauce and I had plaice and chips with mushy peas. The batter was light, crisp and fluffy, the fish cooked to perfection, the chips were crisp and delicious and my mushy peas were properly done, not straight out of a tin. I have eaten fish and chips from up and down the country, and this has been the best by several yards. Delicious and highly recommended.

Called in whilst visiting Whaley Bridge. The lady who served us wasn't very friendly but she was doing her job. I had chips and my hubby had chips and a pie. I asked for "scraps" and was impressed that they cooked some for me there and then. If I have asked for these in other chip shops and they don't have any they just say no. There was a continual flow of people coming into the shop, many of which were locals, which tells you it's a decent chippy. The food we had was very nice and we would call in again if in the area.

The quality of the food here was evidenced by the length of the queue in the shop, and it was worth the wait. The batter on my cod was just the right thickness, without overwhelming the fish in the mushy sleeping bag of pulp that is so often applied in other outlets. The fish itself was fresh, succulent and tasty, and the chips a good colour, with many of them nice and crispy. The price was excellent value too. I've not seen sliced mildly pickled onions on offer as a condiment before, but tried them and found them a good addition to the chips, so I'm a convert. I was intrigued by some of the items on the menu, such as deep-fried battered haggis and black pudding, so may well opt for those next time. A great find to add to my list of good quality fast food outlets in the Whaley area.

Honestly some of the best chips I've had in a long time. Crispy, flavoursome, good sized portion - and the curry sauce was particularly tasty too. And in speaking to the owner it is clearly his passion to expertly craft his frying. He was also friendly and welcoming, giving us recommendations for the local area. If you prefer a soggy chip that sticks to the paper then maybe give it a miss. But if you like a crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, double-fried chip, then I can heartily recommend The Master Fryer.
