Fantastic family run business serving Amazing traditional fish and chips (and lots lots more!!!)

I was passing by and felt hungry so I thought I can’t go wrong wiv a chippy and I was rite. This place is just like being on holiday at butlins with the down to earth peeps not the stuck up snobs that most people in Buxton think they are these is a real chippy for real working people. The area is a bit rundown wiv lots of houses having sofas in the front garden but this is the real England. The chips can. T. were spot on but the sausage was dripping wiv oil so it made my chips soggy but the pudding was so good and the curry. Top bananas apart from the sausage. Next time will try a fish but dint have enuf this time. Payday treat yay 8/10

Always very welcoming. (Review from a couple of years ago) Editing review as different serving staff tonight. Perfect eyelashes but poor customer skills. Never realised having gravy on chips that are already put in a tray could cause such a problem 😳.

Very disappointed £18 for 2 fish and large chips which were £4.30 haddock was thin and batter chewy chips were stale as if they'd been kept warm all day, I'm guessing they are using old oil, if you have been to the Toll Bar chippy at Stoney Middleton you wouldn't go back again given it one star because the staff were pleasant.

We were looking for somewhere to have fish and chips while camping in the area. Partner prefers to be gluten free and was pleasantly surprised that this take- away uses GF flour in the batter. We were even offered GF batter! Amazing service and a lovely piece of fish

Fabulous gluten free options but food was disappointing.

Dreadful. Chips were old/limp and overcooked, fish tasteless. Took ages to cook/wrap. Portion size was very large but didn’t eat it because was so poorly cooked.

Great chippy, I ordered the gluten free fish and chips with a side of peas, lovely crispy batter, sweet mushy peas. Cooked fresh, very friendly, £11.50 with a fresh slice of lemon. Even the packaging was environmentally friendly 5*

I was looking for a gluten free chip shop in Buxton and this one was highly recommend. Unfortunately on the day I visited it had closed early. Will try again next time I visit Buxton.

Lovely staff :) Got to be the nicest chip shop in Buxton and by a long shot too. Also really well priced with nice deals on. Staff were very friendly, food sorted quickly and the chips were super crispy and tasty! Won't be going anywhere else for fish and chips any time soon! :)

Fish was nice a crisp, chips were ok, but needed frying a couple of times as they were not crispy. Good price though, had haddock on special.

Lovely as usual, bought a bigger order than normal as wasn't just feeding my brood but my sisters too, everyone loved the food, amazing curry sauce and the fish is always so fresh and tasty

We tried here for the first time since moving to the area. Really nice traditional chippy - very fresh and hot food m. We really enjoyed everything we ordered and would rate 10/10 for each Doner meat and chips Fish and chips Fried chicken The curry sauce was different to we’ve had before but one of the best! I have Asperger’s so was particular on how I have my sauce and salad which was also accommodated. We had my nephew for the week which the staff were friendly with him and he also enjoyed the food. Would be nice to one day see chicken back in the chippy in the near future maybe! you can’t beat a mixed meat! We will definitely be back! Thank you

The gluten-free coating on the fish is crunchy and tasty and the portions are enough for a hungry Italian. Service is top notch too!

the batter on the fish was hard yet it was freshly cooked the chips were nice they were frehly cooked thats why have only give it 2 stars due to the fish

I have not tried Fairfield Plaice for 2 years so I thought it about time I gave it another go. My last review was a single star as it didn’t impress in any way…..what a difference!! Mini fish : Perfect batter; golden, light and crispy. The fish itself was very tasty moist and had a beautiful texture…I genuinely savoured every mouthful. Portion size was good value but so tasty I could definitely be greedy and have two. Chips - reasonable portion size and again perfectly cooked good amount of classic chunky chips with a few of those lovely little crispy scraps. Service : Excellent friendly and efficient My biggest concern now is I live too close and I have no willpower.

Best fried chicken and chips in Buxton!!! Food is very fresh, cooked perfectly and served hot. The staff are great too, lovely happy people and always up for a chat and a laugh - highly recommend!! Food and service is 10/10.

Delicious food, lovely people. The mushy peas are the best, fish batter is light & crispy, chips are always hot & fresh. I've also discovered today that they make pea fritters!!! Amazing mushy peas in batter....Delicious. Can highly recommend 👌

Going by the recommendations, we thought let's give it a go as not local & on holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed the gluten free cod! Chips & curry sauce lovely too. Hard to fault tho a tad pricey (but everything seems pricey at the moment). Well worth a visit.

Used google to search local chips shops in Buxton on the way home because my daughter was starving, this one came up with the best reviews. It’s in a housing estate but we drove and parked up. She only had chips and a sausage but she said it was nice. Cheaper and better than one in the town centre. Too no time at all to get her order and paid on card. Min £5 though

We used the chip shop when they first took over and were very disappointed with the quality of food. We were told the the food had improved a lot so tonight we gave it a second chance and it was vastly improve well done we will start using them again .

Fantastic little chippy,.serving Gluten free which I and my friends need. Here for the holiday so don't know area but we'll worth seeking it out, All cooked to order so really fresh.

From discovering this little GF fish and chips (so important for my wife) near where we were camping we were surprised by the high level of customer service from ordering to collection. The food was not wrapped until we got there and our large order was fully checked to us. The couple were bothered about the food and service which was great to see. We will certainly come back and we hope the locals realise what a gem they have on their doorstep!

Fairly decent. Ordered battered sausage and chips. Good quantities, some of the chips were a bit undercooked though and a bit firm. Ketchup could be better. Friendly and professional staff.

Amazing gluten free fish and chips. Great to find this chip shop and full marks to them for using gluten free flour in all their batter. 100% recommend , worth the short drive to find them. Plenty of parking outside.

We found this little gem by accident, the lady who served me was adorable and the food is excellent, we had fish, chips, etc and it was five stars plus, great little find highly recommend.

About 15 min walk from the centre of Buxton, have been here a couple of times for very good quality gluten free fish and chips and prices very reasonable. Friendly staff! Definitely recommend.

Great little chip shop, food all fresh and tasty. Can’t fault it. Lovely couple that run the place too. Highly recommended.

Everytime I visit the food is always perfect and hot. 9 times out of 10 the chips are cooked fresh as they only cook a few portions at a time to save wastage at the end of the day and the fish is freshly cooked to order so you know your getting fresh fish everytime. They are always introducing new things to the menu which is a good thing instead of constantly serving the same stuff. I would reccomend having the chicken kebab from here its better than having one from a kebab shop they serve it in a nice fresh fluffy pitta bread. The only fish and chip shop I will use in Buxton. Keep up the good work Mr and Mrs Franco your doing a good job.

Staying in a cottage in High Peak used Tripadvisor to find a highly rated fish and chip shop. We were not disappointed, this little shop is a real gem. The owners are very pleasant and helpful. The fish were freshly cooked and they even apologised for the delay in them being freshly cooked! The chips were fresh and clean and the single portion was generous, plenty for the two of us. The fish were lovely with a large fillet and crispy batter. The shop was spotless, a real credit to the owners. Highly recommend this shop were dry and fresh

This chippy is worth the effort to find and drive to when in Buxton. The prices are competitive, the portion sizes are generous and the chips and fish are really tasty.

We were not sure we were right to travel 2 miles by car to have our children try their 1st Fish & Chips. But we were! Very large portions, smiling service, and excellent fresh food : we could not finish our plates at lunch and had them re-heated in the oven the next day : they still tasted alright!

Fish and chips cooked to order, chips were cooked great, and a good cut on them, no bad ones. The cod was chunky and flaky and the batter was just right...no grease and nice texture. Was given a new menu and there is a good selection of food. The staff/owners are really friendly. Always a good visit here. Have tried other places for fish & chips in Buxton but this is the best.

This is the first time my family have been back to this takeaway since a change of ownership. We weren’t disappointed. Lovely, friendly owners/staff and the food very good. Chips cooked great, the batter on the fish was just right, not too heavy and the curry sauce was delicious. Will definitely be back.

Lovely chicken burgers.....the chips we're overcooked and threw most of them away. Since under new management no recycling/reusing the same bags. And also the loyalty scheme no longer exists. A real shame

Used Fairfield Plaice 3 time recently while visiting my Mum nearby. Excellent fish and chips every time and great value. Always freshly cooked and a steady stream of people calling in. Staff very friendly and polite. On my last visit they were doing tasters of their new Southern fried chicken. Ms going for that next time but I'm sticking to the fish and chips.

I was a little worried when I found out it had recently changed hands however it still serves excellent fish and chips at a fair price. The fish was lovely and great batter. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. I'm sure they will make a great success of it. Called again later in the week to get Fish and Chips for the family. Everyone really enjoyed it - even my Mum and she can be very particular. Back this way in two weeks and will no doubt call again.

This chippy lived up to its reputation as one of the best in Britain. The cod and chips were cooked as we waited so were hot and tasted good (although a few chips were slightly undercooked). The meal was very reasonably priced.

We have always rated this chippy as good but after our latest takeaway never again!! I had pie and chips and the other half had fish and chips. The pastry on the pie was puffed up and looked crispy which at first I thought was a good sign as it had obviously been oven baked and not microwaved. I cut into it (eventually as I couldn’t get my knife through it at first) there was a tiny bit of meat in the bottom of the pie and some sludgy residue. It was disgusting and had obviously been warmed up several times. Hubbys fish was just ok. All in all we will never visit here again.

Tasty, very clean fish & chip shop, but takes some finding, on an estate, off the main road. Worth the effort.
