Fantastic food. Fish fresh to order. Can’t fault food or staff

A word to describe this chippy: rare. Fish that has crispy batter that isn’t soaking in grease: rare. A homemade pie that is fresh: rare. Chips with peri peri salt: rare. My last order - fish, steak pie, chips, peas, curry and gravy did enough for my lunch and tea. It was genuinely one of the best tasting chippys of my life and very reasonably priced too.

The fish and chips here are really nice, portions are great value for money. Breakfast sandwiches are just what’s needed - bacon is definitely high quality. You cannot forget the pies and puddings not your usual sad looking chippy pie - home made by the family just up the road! You can tell the owner has pride for their business and food.

Nice piece of fish in a lovely light batter. Steak and kidney pudding homemade much better than the standard pudding you get elsewhere, nice chunks of meat. Chips very nice and decent portion sizes. Highly recommended.

Terrible food! Sorry but thought we would try again after our last meal was awful but wish i didn't bother. Greasy fish stuck to the paper. Chips looked and tasted like scraps sat there ages drying up. Peas so thick and tasteless. Gravy lumpy and watery. Homemade steak pie had about 3 pieces of meat in and pastry so thick and doughy My daughter gave them a list and still messed up order. Battered sausage was the only thing worth eating. Complete waste of money. Wont be returning again

Nice clean chippy with nice staff selling a wide range of food, the homemade pie's are to die for.....

Greasy fish, soggy batter and burnt chips. Mushy peas thick and no taste. Avoid if you value your stomach. I have a video of how greasy and disgusting the meal was if i can upload it on here i will! I will not be giving this place any more chances as it made me very ill. Amended my previous score from 2 stars to 1.. id give it a zero

We don't visit as often as we should but when we do the food is fabulous fish cooked to order I would say best chippy in new mills it would always be the 1st chippy I would go to

The only downside is that the food is served in polystyrene containers which make everything soggy if left in then for ant length of time.

Perhaps the best Fish&Chips in the area and the girls inside are absolutely amazing and have the most heart warming service you can get! Keep up the great job girls :-)

We have just returned to New Mills and of all the chippies in the town this is the best. On each occasion we have visited we have had a large fish and chips. All the times the fish and chips have been excellent. The staff are very nice pleasant and very helpful.

Found on Google as we were in the area and what a revelation! Warm, friendly service, quick and excellent fish and chips. Good value for money and beautifully cooked fish. Would highly recommend.

We had steak pie with chips, the dogs had sausage and they gave us one for them while we were waiting The steak pie is deep, full of chunks of steak and the pastry is gorgeous, we will definitely be back

Love this chippy!, proper old fashioned fish and chip shop which is a welcome change as most chillies now are more like kebab houses. Home made pies are great and the prices is fantastic

I’m not normally a takeaway fish and chip fan so when my mum came to stay and she said she fancied fish and chips, I struggled to know where to go. It was therefore my friend that recommended High Hill. It was an early Friday evening and it was “ticking over”. The fish was cooked to order which was nice as it had not been sitting in a warming oven. The chips were also freshly cooked and were not at all greasy. It’s always difficult to know how much to order when going somewhere new so for two of us, I ordered 1 large fish, 1 small fish, 1 large chips and a small pot of mushy peas – it was perfect! If we were to have fish and chips again, I would definitely come back to High Hill.

This chippy had just been taken over by a new owner. It's very clean and the staff are nice. Good selection of food on offer. All pies are homemade. Gravy tastes like proper gravy and not with the horrible tangy taste. Good kids menu with drink. Good prices too.

Just had the fish it was delish very light batter very nice

Been a few times and its been ok but my recent visit was awful. The fish was loaded with grease. When i got it home the bag was soaking with grease and i had to squeeze the fish several times with kitchen roll before i could put it on the plate. The chips were slimy and under cooked. The cheese and onion pie had whitish thick pastry, a bit of cheese and a bit of onion inside, tasteless, no seasoning whatsoever. The peas were a dark green sludge, no peas to be seen. I threw mine away. very disappointing.

Since its changed ownership it has definitely gone down hill! Everything was put in plastic boxes which made the chips SOGGY

Well this is excellent got to be in the list of top chip shops any where. A good selection of traditional chip shop fare which is all truly excellent. Freshly prepared hot and enjoyable. Great value for money.

The fish is cooked to order and it is amazing. Chips are perfect. Unfortunately we were too late for the home made pie, but wow it looked fabulous as the last piece went. Worth the short wait and the drive from Hayfield.

This chippy is perfect and never disappoints! The food is tasty, well priced and the staff serve you very quickly (especially considering there can be queues right to the door)! When there was a suggestion to have a chip shop lunch I was undecided - but now so pleased we went for it the cheese and onion pie was delicious and so full of cheese. since then I have heard so many people say how good the food is.

Visited here the week it reopened. Well done it's lovely chips are spot on as is the gravy. It's all wrapped properly so when you get it home it's hot and not all over the bag. Good choice of pies even home made which is a great idea. Keep up the good work.
