The Chippy of Chinley in High Peak

One of the best chippy's that I have visited. Delicious fish in crispy batter and excellently cooked chips. Highly recommended.

Quick friendly service. And the best fish and chips I've had in years. I can't recommend them enough.

Great haddock and chips ,cooked fresh.

People were lovely and friendly. But food wasn't bad. The batter on fish was thick and a bit sloppy inside.

Oh gosh! Burnt chips! Burnt fish! Horrible tasting and smelling oil! Absolutely gutted to say the least. Lovely young lad and girl serving! Really friendly! Me and my mum have left 90% of it. We managed to find a few okay chips. I say this to prompt the owner to do better, as the previous review rang them up to advice but apparently got brushed off. Such a lovely little place in a lovely village and the prices are pretty damn good tbh! Please take a step back and try to improve your food. If you're new to it, ask some other chippys for advice because you can do better than that! I have now edited this post as all 3 of me my mum and my partner feel sick.

When I asked for my order of shush burger and pigeon meat I was rudely spoken to by one young member of staff (oliver bailey)

Shocking.... don't bother. I couldn't get a knife through the fish ! It was like rubber in the middle. The batter was horribly undercooked and soggy. When I called to advise the staff I was brushed off. Nothing wrong with the fish apparently. Really ! Not remotely interested in the poor quality of the food !! Save your money... go elsewhere. Bloody awful !

Used to be the best chippy for miles. Things have gone downhill fast. Raw chips and greasy undercooked fish. Ended up in the bin. Never again.

Lovely chip shop, all fresh and has seating inside if you fancy eating in.

Sadly not up to expectations. Chips very greasy and oily verging on oil being rancid. Fish batter falling apart and stuck to chips. Fish portion very small. Badly wrapped so almost cold when eating. Staff disinterested verging on discourteous. Shame as environment clean and nicely decorated for Xmas.

Had been for a while due to work schedule and found it was under new management. All good no problems.Food delicious as always.

Ordered a large cod and chips for 2 people. It was definitely not large. The fish portion in particular was very small and tasteless, I'm not convinced it was cod. Chips didn't seem fresh, they were chewy. They also only take cash which was inconvenient as there are no cash points in Chinley.

Under new ownership and sadly not as good as it used to be. The fish was dry with mediocre batter and the chips were soggy. Previously the fish and chips were fresh and crisp, it would be great if it could get back up to its previous standard as it was a real asset to the village

We sat in and had fantastic fish and chips. Light batter and soft buttery fish. Piping hot and delicious. Looking forward to trying the Yorkshire fritter next time. This chippie is well worth going out of your way to visit.

As I have said before we are so lucky to have this in our Village. Now under new owners We think it is even better! Nice batter on Fish really crispy. Good portion sizes too. Service still as it was all good. I can see this Chippy going from strength too strength. I have noticed a few comments saying not as good? I would say give them a chance to get to know what we all Love! Great British Fish and Chips .

We went to the chippy by bicycle on a Friday evening (we were camping locally) and the staff were lovely, offered to put us a table and chairs outside, provided metal cutlery. The "small" portions of chips were generous too!

Our favourite local fish & chip shop for many years is now under new management. We ordered meals for six & whilst the service was fine and the quality of the fish was as ever really good quality sadly thats as far as the possitives work. I hate having to criticise restaurant who all work really hard to make a living but yesterdays offering was horrible. the chips were greasy and falling apart. the fish had very very thin batter which was the softest I've ever seen & just fell off....not one of us could eat the meals which sadly I have to say is the worst I have ever had. It ended up in the bin & we had to make another meal. I'm so sorry its as though something just went wrong..the worst cooked fish and chips and even the mushy peas were not good. I hope the new owners can look to provide the excellent quality food we have enjoyed for many years.

The chippy of chinley is recently under new management and is awesome! Fresh first to order, crispy chips succulent sausages and everything in between! Staff are great, the fryer is very handsome and great conversationalist. Absolutely nothing to fault, tasty and traditional fish and chips! Pop in if you’re local, or drive up it’s worth it!!

First and last visit. Heard good things about this place and was really looking forward to some quality fish and chips. Sadly, we got overcooked, greasy chips and cod coated in thick, stodgy flour. About the worst fish n chips we've ever had. Really disappointed.

We are so lucky to have in our Village. Proper Fish and Chips made how they should be. Very friendly service plus, handy you can order for collection and collect when you want. Good size portions and very reasonable price.

Best tasting fish and chips I’ve had for years, absolutely delicious. The chippy is super clean and staffed by the friendliest ladies you could ever wish to meet.

This establishment is an excellent example of a traditional Chip Shop, serving excellent, chips, peas etc.. It is scrupulously clean!

Friendly and prompt service. There was no singing, as referenced in the other reviews, but that did not detract from the visit. Reasonably priced food that's cooked to a good standard. The portion sizes seemed normal to me. If you're near to Chinley and would like fish & chips then I'd recommend that you pay a visit.

Very little food for what you pay . Portion sizes as bad as when the other family had it which was awful then. Thought it might of got better but sadly not !

Ordered chips and curry I literally could not find the curry . Friendly staff but honestly am still hungry. Food is ok for a chippy but not worth the extortionate price for so little food !

Disappointed. REFORMED scampi at the same cost of proper wholetail scampi elsewhere. Found the singing uncomfortable, so I stood outside in the cold.

Just about the best chippy in the area, fish always fresh and cooked to perfection ,lovely chips and great service including the owner who likes to sing chippy related songs like " relight my frier " etc lol. Always busy which says a lot and your able to eat in as well . The plaice to go

Called in on Friday night for another chippy meal. This time we sat in to eat, the fish is outstanding. We were so welcomed by the lovely new owners, who I know have only just taken over. In facts it’s better than before. Best chippy in the area. Keep up the good work ladies.

Fish chips & curry sauce. Fish very greasy.

Called in tonight but very disappointed in the portion size! Had chips wrapped up but they only just covered the bottom of the tray..did they taste amazing yes! But such a meagre portion 😣

Called in tonight and thought what a lovely clean chippy. Got the wrapped up chips back to the car and was very disappointed to find the size of the portion.

Fantastic little chippy you can eat in or takeaway. Portion size really good and the quality of food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Only down side is it’s limited days of opening which is a shame.

I went to see the girls about a reasonably large planned order for our family, their service and high standards were certainly put too the test, no forward order to just pick up, ON the day , walked in 10 chips, 9 Cod, 1 Haddock, 8 peas, 2 gravy, 2 sausages and 4 Curry sauce blimney Gorgeous!!!! Great chippy and great staff!!

Moved to Chinley recently and visited the Chippy for the first time last week. Really friendly staff and the chips were AMAZING :D Didn't have to wait long at all even though there was a queue

I have visited for chippy for first time this evening , all I can say is amazing , from the cod to the chips cooked in beef dripping even the tasty gravy was amazing , I travel from marple to the chippy , me and my friend sat in and both have said the food and service 10/10 .. Believe it has just changed hands , I have a chippy myself and cannot recommend The place enough .. Will deffo make the journey again soon :) Keep up the good work girls :)

We visited Chinley for four days and went here twice! The place was crowded the first time we went there. The staff were so friendly and so were the customers in there (they could tell we were visitors as our accents were different) we asked what a chip barm was and everyone just went “ahh not from round here”! The chef was singing little versions of songs and made them about fish ! Really nice people.

You almost don’t mind queuing when the Chief Frier serenades you with familiar old hit songs but with the words changed to be fish-related! (I wish I could remember one now, but they’re eluding me...)

Still really good, probably the best around and there are a couple of other good ones, think this one just beats them.Everything is so clean here and the oil is obviously very fresh too. Still wish it opened more often and still wish he wouldn't sing but its a small price to pay for such fab fish and chips.

I have a little soft spot for a proper chippy and this is a PROPER CHIPPY. Nothing complicated like trying to be something else, just the best tasting fish and chips around, by far.

An excellent traditional chippy with friendly staff and always a warm welcome. It can be quite busy and there is nearly always a queue. However you are usually entertained by the owners singing. You can eat in if you like too.

One of the funniest experiences being served by a singing server. Every possible fish and chip inspired song possible. Eg I just fried in your arms tonight. Fish and chips good. Sadly the pie was courtesy of Chef Mike so a bit soggy. Got to go there for a laugh.

After recently moved to Chinley we are now regular customers of the chippy of chinley.

My wife and I popped in for haddock and chips (which were excellent) and sausage and chips (sausage not great - no texture and little taste). The chips were lovely, well cooked and had some colour! Really friendly owner who knows how to engage you in a conversation!
